Osaka's Flamethrower Street Food Chef ★ ONLY in JAPAN

  • When a sushi chef meets a flamethrower, it creates the hottest street food restaurant in Osaka!
There's a chef who has been cooking by flamethrower for over 25 years and the food ー is gourmet quality delicious!
In this episode, I travel to Izakaya Toyo (居酒屋とよ) to experience Osaka's "hottest" street food. Now you can see Toyoji-san on Netflix STREET FOOD Chef’s Table series.
Toyoji-san opened his street side izakaya on the site of a parking lot in 1992, and today it's one of Osaka's most notable sushi stops. With a flamethrower, Toyoji-san can grill up a lot of maguro cheek meat for dozens of hungry customers in minutes, and the fire attracts an audience! The chef is a real entertainer and the food is outstanding, but it's the reasonable prices that keeps regular customers coming back for years.
Eating flamethrower cuisine is amazing! The outside is cooked well and the inside remains moist and juicy. Toyoji-san's secret is to balance the hot with the cold. He has a bucket of ice water next to the grill. He periodically dips his hand into the ice water to balance the temperature and allows him to amazingly cook barehanded with the flamethrower!
    Where is Izakaya Toyo?

Bro, I been checking out your vids for a few weeks now and decided I had to sub finally. This video was really great, and it's helped dispel the notion in me that "all Japanese will hate you because you are not Japanese." I'm sure that exists in some parts, of course. However, it feels a lot more hospitable, and the people seem much more friendly than I've always had it painted to me.
On a personal note, I've been sick for nearly 3 weeks now and it's been making me irritable and curt. This vid, well, what can I say? It just made me feel happy and good inside. Thanks for the awesome things you do, and all the effort and hard work you put into your videos and your channel. You're awesome!

John, I just visited Japan for a week! One year ago, I watched all of your videos over a week and it prepared me SO MUCH for the experience I had. I saw pod hotels, toilets, ramen shops, gachapon, vending machines, an onsen, manhole covers, Hachiko, a melon farm and more. Thanks to your insights, I had a wonderful time exploring and learning.
You also taught me to trust in the kindness and hospitality of Japanese people. A week before my trip, I met three Japanese ladies in Australia and ended up spending the whole day with them in a rainforest. Just a week later, they hosted me at Mount Fuji for the weekend! If you need a place to stay near Mount Fuji, I can put you in touch with them :)
Thank you for all your hard work! If you have time, please consider making a video demistifying the line system around Tokyo (buying tickets, how to know when to get off, etiquette, asking for help). That would help a ton of future tourists!

You deserve the one million subscribers so much! I hope that happens very soon. :) There is so much effort in every video. I think I have to watch all your videos again and make my own, personal Japan guide. Traveling to Japan is my biggest, yearlong wish since childhood! Especially to Akihabara, Tokyo and Osaka. I love the Japanese cuisine, she is my passion besides the Korean.
