  • Eugenics and Coerced Sterilization in California: A Digital History is an interdisciplinary project that aims to create a virtual collection of archival, primary, and interpretive materials related to the long history of eugenics in California. This digital archive will include primary source materials that document the prominent role of eugenic laws, organizations, and policies in California, with consideration of their historical significance to contemporary issues in genomics and bioethics. This digital archive is unique insofar as it will include a dataset of 15,000 sterilization requests for operations performed in state institutions from 1922 to 1952, a resource that can be used for qualitative and quantitative analysis by researchers in public health and women's reproductive health.
MCubed is a two-year seed-funding program designed to empower interdisciplinary teams of University of Michigan faculty to pursue new initiatives with major societal impact. The program minimizes the time between idea conception and successful research results by providing immediate startup funds for novel, high-risk and transformative research projects. The funds are intended to generate data for groundbreaking, high-impact publications, or preliminary results for new, innovative research proposals. The program also includes high-visibility, campus-wide research symposia to showcase the resulting groundbreaking research.
