I get why you are buying these because you're a reviewer, but I don't think anyone who isn't a reviewer should be buying these things or be supporting Hasbro for these sloppy, unfinished releases. I've been watching your channel for a long time, plus some other review channels, and the image I've gotten of the action figure world is very unflattering to say the least, and for good reason. Criticism is like a lost art, and I enjoy that you're so harsh on many of the figures you review, simply because they deserve it. I might not agree with absolutely everything you say about everything you review, but I like that you're calling things crap when they deserve it. Your harsher criticism of many figures is totally justified. In fact I believe you're being too lenient a lot of the time.
I don't own a ton of action figures myself, I'm more of a statue guy, but I still love the idea of posable figures. And regardless of whether it's a statue or an action figure, there needs to be higher standards set for me to wanna buy these stupid toys I don't really need. So many of these figures don't even look like the source material, and if you add in terrible articulation design and sloppy QC, then what am I even paying for?, just a poor man's botched fan art? I understand that designing an action figure can be a difficult process, but I'm not paying for a poor attempt here, I'm paying for results, and the results simply don't impress a lot of the time. All I know is that most people have terrible standards for quality and I wish things were different.

Preach!!! I slowly stopped buying Hasbro figures unless they actually release a decent figure from time to time. My last hurrah will be the Galactus haslab but even that I'm cautiously optimistic and will sell if I'm not content. A lot of other brands I've dived into have also had flaws and for the price points they always ticked me off. How does one not do the bare minimum of articulation being the essential instead of half assing it and having a useless figure where it doesn't do the character justice 🤔

The thing is Hasbro CAN do good, quality figures. Look at their Snake Eyes; super nice sculpt with so much articulation, he can double wield his sword like no figure in my collection. Or their recent Darth Vaders, which finally look like the guy. Or even the new retro Spidermen. They can do good figures which are fun to play with and pose around, but they also do a lot of bad figures for no apparent reason.

I’ve always held off on buying ML just because a good majority of the time they just look unappealing. Sloppy or very little paint detail, boring sculpts, and even at $20 I thought they were too much. They just don’t look like collectibles and they don’t fit the source material. The Target Exclusive Retro Rouge was the first 6 inch figure I was throughly impressed with and it encouraged me to pick the more appealing releases like classic Dr. Strange and 20th Cap. But then we get to the Fantastic 4 figures and I’m just overall unpleased with the retro line. But it’s the only recent version of these out so there’s not much of a choice if thought want a somewhat decent F4 set. Fortunately most of the ML I want are older releases, but after I do that, I’m definitely not going to get many more ML unless it’s a character that I REALLY like or NEED to complete a group.

@@SP8inc I think some people at Hasbro care more about their job than others, and some are just incompetent. I also bet they're rushed to hell and back sometimes, leading to poor decision making. Either way you're right, Hasbro has done some good stuff, even great on occasion, but it happens so rarely these days that it's straight up embarrassing. The fact that almost all of their figures are just reused molds with almost no paint is just inexcusable for such a prominent manufacturer.

I really wish Hasbro would make up their mind as to whether these are toys or collectibles.
They're fun to play with and the materials they are made with feels like these are rated for 4 year-olds, but they're priced like high collectibles. So they're too expensive to be kids toys, but too low quality to be collectibles, so which is it?
If they really want to charge a premium for these, my suggestion would be to bump the rating up to 8+ or 14+ or whatever a sensible interval is to where they can get away with using better materials and smaller parts. That would make them feel substantially higher quality, and it doesn't really sacrifice anything because no 4 year old is playing with these. They can't afford it and no parent is going to buy it for them. Plus, my 4 year old would shatter this in 3 minutes, tops.
All I know is, I'm getting tired of buying all these $30 Gumbis and so I've cut way back until they fix either the price or the quality.

What I find weird about the gripping hands is that they didn’t bother to add the slots for his claws to come out of. They already have hand molds for Wolverine hands without the claws out so they could’ve easily used one of those or modified it into a gripping position. This just shows that they didn’t even try with the accessories or the figure in general. It’s amazing how they take something that should’ve been an easily good release and make it worse than it should be.

I think I said a similar thing in another of your reviews, I feel like Hasbro is rising prices with the excuse of selling us pretty boxes, and that's it.
The figures are still as meh as always and the paint job is just... I don't want to say bad because it looks nice in certain poses but it's just not what it should be.
Also, the headsculpts they are using for the rest of the figures are just SO BAD.
It's supposed to be a line inspired by the cartoon and the headsculpts are still looking like "real people". Have you seen their Morph figure? It doesn't have a cartoonish look.
I don't really mind these releases because they are actually helping me decide to finally stop buying Marvel Legends.
I am at that point where getting a "new" figure from Hasbro feels like they will make a "better" version later and I just feel scammed.

I had canceled all my pre-orders for these animated X-Men figures.
I still would like to get a Wolverine, only because I missed the previous opportunities to get me a yellow suit Wolverine figure, but at that price, I might be able to find one on the secondary market.
I love Hasbro's products, but I think they're getting a little too cocky with more recent offerings. Only figures worth their price points is G.I.Classified.

I’m all for the cel shaded/stylized paint jobs, I know Hasbro attempting something that ambitious would be a disaster considering they can’t even paint basic costume or belt details right 90% of the time lol
The prices are outrageous for these things. Every Hasbro ML quality/practical value wise is worth about 15 bucks at best and that was about what they charged for the black Hand Ninja, that should be for every figure lol

So weird how far off this is considering how almost good it is.
They've been killing the head sculpts recently and a neutral and grimacing head is a rare perfect choice for Wolverine, and the cowl looks a bit like Anthony's custom!... and they still look soft and outdated.
The new claws look good!... but they're plugged into the Cowboy Logan hand set, so no claw openings, and yes fingernails on the sword, sorry, picture gripping hands.
Premium paint apps!... that nobody wanted, and aren't well executed, and are worse than usual on the face.
Obscure Easter Egg accessories for the fans!... and no other accessories for anyone at all.

I love cel shading in video games and 3D animation, but I absolutely hate it on action figures and models. It doesn't actually make it look like it's cel shaded, because there are still real life soft shadows on the figure, which obviously you can't make go away. It just looks like the character has shadows painted on them - because they do. I feel similarly about plastic fire and blast effects. They don't look like the thing they're supposed to be. They just look like a hunk of translucent plastic.

Man I was actually looking forward to this one, I loved the X-Men cartoon and to see them screw the pooch, I hope it's just a dud on your end.
I think part of it is in fact the packaging, the VHS sleeve gimmick is a clever way to introduce windowless boxes and for someone like me who collects loose, I can display both. Generally I love the cel-shaded aesthetic and NECA are the kings of nailing the look not just with their TMNT cartoon line but remember when they did video game appearance versions of certain characters and they had that pixelated cel-shaded look? Master System Rocky and the Contra guys come to mind.

To answer your question, yes, I did get one with a better paint job and the claws weren't warped. And yes, I LOVE stylized paint applications like cel-shading, I think it's great. This though isn't cel-shading done particularly well. I think the shade of yellow is wrong, he was never spicy brown mustard in the show, and it's not applied as well as it could be. I know the Mondo one is way more expensive, but man, did they do a way better job of painting it and it really isn't a cost issue aside from maybe the fact that Mondo used a third shade of all of the primary colors on their version. And Hasbro has proven it can do better as the cel-shaded Pink Ranger looks terrific! I don't know why that figure exists and it's not something I've ever wanted, but the paint job did turn out well. This whole animated line though was something I've wanted for years and Hasbro just isn't really doing it justice which is a shame. The sad part is, Wolverine looks like the clear best of the reveals so far too. Those gripping hands are embarrassing and they look so tiny and goofy on this figure. I don't buy many Legends, but do they seriously not have some gripping hands from a past Wolverine figure? Just an all around poor value for a figure that, at the end of the day, I do like because of the source material, but could have easily been so much better.

I hate these. This is not cel shading, it’s just crap. They need to hire some Borderlands cosplayers who make themselves look like animated characters that hopped off of the page. The Neca Turtles look great and I really like them. With this series, they break up the paint job terribly with that muddy “highlight” when you do any thigh articulation at all.
I am squarely in the target market particularly because I have a huge action figure collection and I was holding out for the quintessential animated Wolverine figure, and when I saw this release and then the Jean Grey I just bit the bullet and shelled out the extra money for a customized love triangle set because these are awful. If I saw them on clearance for $5 I wouldn’t buy them. Mondo’s 12” SDCC exclusive Cel Shaded Wolverine is a really good example of what Wolverine could look like stylized. This ain’t it, 1/10 stars. They ruined a perfectly good release with this half-assed brown paint concept.

I usually dislike animated shading but this one I think came out decent. The black on mine looks horrible tho. My only other nitpick is that the blue on the gloves doesn't match but at least I finally have a good Wolverine. Missed my chance with the other ones

6" Hasbro retail for $35.99 now which is ridiculous. So these blunt reviews do help in making decisions on which figures to bother with.

was underwhelmed with the figure. had really bad bent claws, smeared paint in a couple of places, and the box itself while nice should have been a bit smaller in my opinion...i had a figma with more stuff and a stand that fit in a box as small as an actual vcr tape. gonna repaint and add metal claws make it look like a battle damaged one.

With Hasbro having gotten rid of free shipping over certain prices. These figures start to be $35+ depending on taxes. They are all Pulse exclusives but with Disney involved, they make their way to the Disney Store.
So far I think Hasbro's attempts at cell shading just isn't well executed. I feel the shading is adding nothing to the figure. I certainly don't think I'm looking at an animated design given life.
Mondo's 1/6 scale Wolverine for example executes the cell shaded idea almost perfectly. Actually it feels like Hasbro's attempt is a knockoff version of Mondo's offering(and it includes the animated slash).
Maybe the more "successful" attempt was Pink Ranger Lightning Collection but that was even more a "Nobody actually wants this and you aren't changing my mind" type of situation.
As for the figure itself. Pinless limbs, double ball joint torso's, dumbbell neck joints. It's time for the Wolverine figures to get an update.
Honestly Hasbro gotten into this bad habit that a fancy box(which doesn't show the figure with a window) justifies a price increase in place of better paint apps and accessories.
At this point they could have made this like the definitive Wolverine with previous heads/accessories.

  • @KJCollections

I'm not a fan of the cell shaded comic book look on figures at all. when they announced these I was like, these are probably going to look bad because Hasbro doesn't know how to paint figures. comic shading like this on a figure to me always looks awkward. The shading on the inside of his leg looks like he peed on himself. You'll have to check out the "cell shaded comic style" power ranger lightning collection pink ranger if you get a chance. It's an abomination. I laughed in gamestop the first time I saw the figure in person.

The variance in these figures is what frustrates me. The paint on mine is overall a lot better than yours, where basically everything is perfect except some yellow shows through the black side striping on one of the side panels. but if they’re going to raise the prices, they need to be raising quality at least to a consistent good… Not some being great and some being blah.
