- I had already heard horror stories about the Medicom MAFEX Marvel Comics X-Men Wolverine, from arms falling off to loose joints, so I wasn't looking forward to doing this review. But honestly, this surpassed my expectations. I still had a QC issue that actually worked in my favor and the arm experiment is a little weird, but I'm very happy with this Logan!

Outstanding video, Robo. It was refreshing to see someone address QC issues honestly while still being an adult about it.

MAFEX should start cutting their prices in half IMO.
They've had some good and some bad, but 40 bucks would make it sting a lot less.
Robo I think you’re missing a piece inside the unmasked head. Usually there’s an internal socket like piece that fits into the head. Looks like yours either fell out or wasn’t assembled right. Be hitting them folks up for a fix, sir.

As a product designer, you can make a product look as pretty as you want. But if the internal design itself is bad, it's still a bad product.
I’m so glad I cancelled my preorder. This kind of bad QC is unacceptable.
Specially for the price point, super unacceptable. Maybe for a 20 dollar figure it might possibly be fine but for an expensive figure it's honestly unacceptable
When I relax with a favorite beverage I use a “butterfly cup” . So good to see a new Robo review in 2020!
At that price I can't say this is something I would buy. Honestly I think the unmasked head is the biggest oversight. How could something like that possibly get through production?
it was a bad mistake but a one-off not a regularity. it's the only reported such case i've heard of. mine came with the proper mafex neck attachment...now the arm issue seems fairly universal. just varying degrees of annoyance. I had his left arm pop off one time during my first evening of messing with the figure and posing it but haven't had an issue since. to each their own, but i've got all the legends figures and in hand/person the mafex is superior in just about every way (aesthetic preferences...claws/paint color/mask aside). happy collecting!

Chris Price ah okay for some reason I thought the issue was more widespread. Yeah the arms are the biggest issue then and hopefully something they fix with a rerelease

Meh, I'll stick with the latest Marvel Legends Wolverine, looks imo just as good as this one, is cheaper and dosen't seem to have any issues with the articulations
I dont see what makes this an $80 figure. Hasbro came pretty close to this for $20.
This on top of the fact that Hasbro has so many Wolverines to collect, you can get 4 different ones for that price!

@@gabe5499 I also got that one abd damn there is so many issues with him. I will for sure ge the KO to do X-Force repaint and i will try to fix his arms (i dont plan to drill the 80$ figure, but 15-18$ KO i can even disassemble)
I'd say this is twice as good as a Marvel Legends in a lot of ways. Of course, it costs 4 times as much, so that's still damning it with faint praise.

That unmasked head being like that blows my mind. My wolverine has one of the arm issues but other than that I love it. Glad it worked out in your favor though Robo!!

Edit: btw medicom has been using that arm structure for a while now, I remember seeing it in the first homecoming spiderman by mafex.

That's exactly how the Spider-Man shoulders were constructed. I had an elbow QC issue, (which HLJ replaced) and I had to swap out arms and was surprised to see how they were put together.
Had a hardy chuckle after the first bit before the title screen then bellowed in laughter from the second bit after it.
That really was the Mafex Loges too. That's commitment to the craft people. lolll
The cup piece is missing from the unmasked head, that sort of happened with my mafex Spider-Man, the piece wasn't glued in to the head and fell out when I took it out of the box.
Boy, the paint on this is ROUGH. Surprised you didn't bring it up. The black on the heads and the blue stripes are all over place.

@@KingInBlack24 We must be watching different videos them, lol. This is like a $95 figure, and the paint is on-par with Marvel Legends. The blue stripes go in and out of the molded stripe area (and looks green on some edges). Look at the black line at like 3:59 - that's sloppy as all get out. Hell even the stripes are really bad at that timestamp.

Even then, at $70 that still doesn't excuse the bad paint, esp compared to $25 ML.

Headsculpt looks like a John Byrne Wolverine but with exaggerated mask wings (or whatever they're called)
Its seems straight out of the x-men arcade cabinet (which im pretty sure is based off Byrne art)
Here's hoping the Hush Batman has cleaner paint and stronger joints.
Same thought. Came here to see if it was worth it to venture into Mafex, but this figure falling apart for that price is scaring me away.

This Logan looks good.. glad that I had pre ordered it. Hopefully mine have no QC issues or Marvel Legends umasked head issue. This figure makes me go pre order the Mafex Cyclops which is schedule to be release this month end.

I agree Robo, I was playing with this figure before any reviews went up and never had any qc issues on my copy. Weird that your unmasked head doesn’t have the peghole mine had it. It’s a damn fun figure, sweet review!

Figure is actually cool, finally a decent head sculpt, the “wings” on the mask are great, tiger stripes would be nice if they were black though, I just need a good hulk to go w this Wolverine, facial hair( stubble would have been cool too)
its an assembly issue, if you notice the pegs doesnt have a "lock" or a "notch" to hold it in place its just smooth peg easy to pull out. I agree for easy manufacturing they made it that way

I wasn't feeling it at first as well due to some negative reviews, but after playing with the figure for 2 days, it's a marvelous figure and so fun to pose around. Ya definitely need to finesse when playing with this figure compared to like Marvel Legends, which I personally find more exciting and challenging. Excellent review Robo and dude, that kinda sucks that your unmasked head don't fit, but I'm low key a bit jelly, because it looks great on that marvel legends body lol

I like Medicom Mafex products, but yeah $85-$90 is a lot for one figure.
I would really want that unmasked head for my marvel legends looks really good and wish we would get a head with the wing tips for marvel legends
I both hate and love that the head fits on the legends and looks so good. I can't buy an $80 head but still.
I've got a weird nitpick, but I wish his thighs were thicker. They just seem small given the art on the box and my impression of the video game style. Also, I don't so much mind the claw length, but since they're so stylized and long, I wish they weren't so parallel and evenly thin. If they splayed apart some, and had some thickness variation towards the tips, I'd be really hard pressed to pick him up. Apparently I'm all about the thickness today.
For the time being, the legends Wolverine is the one I've got on the desk to just fiddle and play with, but my current favorite and preferred display Wolvie is the Revoltech. If they ever do a 90s/Jim Lee repaint, I'd get that in a heart beat.
I'm gonna choose to enjoy it. Yeah it has issues that it shouldn't have for a $100 figure, but they're not all that crazy. So as long as mine doesn't have any ridiculous QC issues I'm good. But I'll have to wait and see when my preorder finally ships -_-

I feel like the majority of people complaining about price point are just looking for any reason not to spend $100. $20 for the legends is fair- but you just can’t compare how much nicer and premium the mafex sculpt and articulation provide! I can’t wait to get mine. Hope yours turns out good!!
A figure coming apart is a crazy issue. If you don’t mind that when you’re posing your figure that’s fine but others find it unacceptable

exactly! I was so scared when my mafex spidey shipped. It has a very tight right leg and a left leg that constantly pops out. It gets annoying but it isn’t broken. And as long as I remember to pose gently with that leg it’s perfectly fine. There’s some small paint issues here and there, but even with all of this it’s still one of my top three figures.

Really love the look of this one, especially the longer ears on the mask. Sucks about the arms and the unmasked head though.
Use plumbers tape for the loose joint (it won’t permanently ruin the joint but it will keep it in place).

Mine did too, (worked in my favour) arms were fine, I have posed him up several times did photoshoots, arms never popped off, if I’m being nitpicky mine has some paintbleed here and there (visible especially when zoomed in for close up shots) other than that, Beautiful!!👌🏻✨ I love it!🙌🏻🤩 (checked my logan unmasked head and you’re missing the connecting piece, the socket if you will for the neck ballpeg, mine works and has that piece, though I also won’t be displaying mine with unmasked head🤷🏻♂️😄
I gotta be honest, my last "tigerstripe" Wolverine was the old Red Hulk baf one from when Hasbro first started back up Marvel Legends. I wanna say it was like 2008 or something, and it was really just a repaint of the Toybiz Classic Wolverine. While the height was off for a Logan figure, it actually looked pretty good and was probably my favorite for a long time. However, this Mafex one looks almost like a photo-realized still, ripped straight from the old cartoon. Whether or not that's worth a hundred bucks to me remains to be seen, but overall I give them credit on the mold. Except for that unmasked head weirdness, that's just inexcusable at this price range.
I’ve had this same comment on a few mafex figure reviews. Mafex would be my #1 hands down favorite figure company if it weren’t for their figures disintegrating so easily. You mentioned how it could be due to maybe making the manufacturing easier, which if that’s the case, they should be passing along their savings to the customer. For a figure of this price, and as amazing as the figure is... and this goes for all toy companies; qc issues at $100 a pop is absolutely unacceptable. I’ve lost HUNDREDS of dollars to mafex ALONE due to rebuying figures again because the previous one had fallen apart in my hands, only to find that next figure doing the same. And yes that’s my fault for trusting them again and again. But for anyone who has a working figure from mafex, we all know how heavenly they can be :)
Im a huge fan of the xmen arcade game, so if they had or do release this guy in the brown jim lee suit ill definitely have to buy him, QC issues or not

You can fix those arms. Dip the pegs in Vaseline, squirt some hot glue in the holes and pop the pegs in and move them until the glue drys. They should work perfectly from then on. That’s how I fixed my dark knight batman 0.1 back in the day. Hope you are well Robo and happy new year!!

I feel like Mafex would make a great Batman, that Wolverine headsculpt, if you are able to focus on the black part of the face only, it looks exactly like Batman.
Very good review Beady... would using some sand paper on the shoulder joint where it meets the bicep make it connect better? I might go for the figure if that is the case but for an $80 figure it’s a shame it has such bad QC

Awesome review! I just got charged for mine earlier today and I’m super excited. I had a question about the claws and torso joint. To fix claws if they aren’t straight- do you just heat them up with a hairdryer? Same question for the torso joint. I’d like to fix mine if I have the same issues! Thanks so much:)

Agreed. thought the same exact thing when I saw the promo pics for this figure early last year. The body proportions are far more Jim Lee/Kuburt esq, while the mask has that over exaggeration/capcom vibe.

I've been considering buying my first Mafex figure, especially that Hush Batman that's coming but I like Logan so I checked this out to see how good these 100 dollar figures are. The only expensive figures I have are Figuarts Street Fighters and I have no complaints with those.
However for 100 bucks I feel like these shouldn't be falling apart in your hands. You were popping off those limbs/pieces very easily it looked like. Assuming the Logan head is a one-off problem, I'll ignore that. I love the look of this figure, but I also love the Legends wolverines. Also he never had blue tiger stripes to my memory, always been black. Minor gripe. Again for the price point, he should be more solid. This makes me reconsider stepping into the expensive Marvel/DC world, thanks for the video!
The blue tiger stripes are from the new-ish comic were he comes back, return of Wolverine I think

This is an epic review. Thank you for not taking a dump on it. I really like this figure a lot and the way you explain it, is far more realistic and grown- up. Yeah it’s expensive and shouldn’t have these issues, but it’s not a chunk of garbage. It’s a great figure. As always- epic review.
That unmasked seems to be a qc issue just with your copy. You should contact the retailer you got it from and ask for another unmasked head.
The sleeve thing for the shoulder and biceps is actually nothing new, that’s how they’ve been doing their shoulder and biceps, at least since their Hoemcoming Spider-Man

I think the way the arms are constructed are the same as on the MAFEX Venom at the very least, and that didn't have the arm problem, so I think it's less the result of constructing the arm that way in general, and probably more the result of how they executed this particular one.
Figure still looks good despite the arm issue, but since I already have good-enough Marvel Legends ones, and am trying not to collect too many of the MAFEX Marvel figures in addition to everything else I'm collecting, them painting the torso stripes blue instead of black was enough for me to turn it down.
I still want it.

5:30 hmm.. it’s good they’re still trying to improve but we can definitely fault them for selling us a work in progress - finished figures only, for me. Think I can make use of that exploding action feature though. That unmasked head is screwy, I’m sure the retailer will replace it.
@schwiggity It shouldn't be. Otherwise we'll just end up throwing our money at anything. Hope they sort it out for the variant and this is just a blip. I've got a lot of mafex on order, with my finger on the cancel button.

Gorgeous figure. Shame about the head though, that is unacceptable. Arms are fine, though. I'd rather take my time when posing instead of having ugly pinholes and double joints on my figures.

Very frustrating when parts fall off easily. Mafex definitely has quality control on paint issues on every figures I purchased. what it's priced at, Mafex need to do better job for the price.
You payed 80USD plus shipping and import taxes for this figure with bad paint, popping arms, bad torso articulation and an extra head with a big defect and you like it!!!! I'm glad you do Robo I'm glad you do. It's not like I think it's very bad but for the price point, man it should be way better, it should be better then a S.H. Figuarts or a Figma and it isn't... it just isn't.
WOW Anthony didn't mention the unmasked head just straight up not fitting. This is a HUGE disappointment. I wouldn't pay $20 for this.

If or when (let's be honest probably when) i buy this figure i honestly legit hope it has those issues cause i would love to own this and have it beside my other x-men figures but also some of the stuff this figure comes with would be great fodder for other figures, like i would love nothing more than to take one of the masked heads from this figure and put it on the revoltech body and have myself a Marvel vs Capcom Wolverine on the MvsC shelf i'm setting up

Medicom- I can't. Not one more time. This looks so so fantastic but the quality control issues I've experienced over multiple Medicom/MAFEX lines have me in therapy.
