You are really overthinking the AMG badging. 3 letters can’t take away from the fact that this car is a rocket compared to 90% of cars on the road. The engine is phenomenal and probably the best in class. I drove V8s for years and this engine totally does it for me. The 63 is obviously incredible as well but in no way blows the 43 out of the water. It’s slightly better performance wise. Forget the 3 letters and focus on how it feels which is amazing. I also test drove both and ended up going with the 43. Yes the 63 sounded better, but other than all out hard acceleration they felt nearly the same. I am also in an AMG car club and have been on several cruises in which most people drive 63 cars, for the most part when we are driving in a "spirited" manner, I am able to keep up until we are well within illegal speeds. This hand assembled engine marketing is for snobs, so they can feel better. In fact humans will make mistakes, while a robot will be perfect each time. In fact, the 43 engine is so good Mercedes has to dial back the boost to 12.8 psi only so it does not encroach on the C63. Buy a JB4 and and enjoy the car. I appreciate your comment. And all good points. Only “True AMG” snobs would beat on other “BABY” AMG owners by trumpeting “hand built” as far superior. Every time a Mercedes gets beaten by a BMW “M” car they are being beaten by a non-hand built engine, no one really cares, it’s a marketing gimmick IMHO because those engines like BMW engines have their issues just like all the rest. I do not believe there is anything special imparted to the engine due to hand building other than every nut and bolt is tightened to spec which is a good thing. I just find it funny that “hand built” becomes the main tool used to bludgeon peasants with baby AMG’s when basically every other desirable car brand in this price segment doesn’t hand build the engines either and somehow they do just fine. I’m not saying I wouldn’t take a hand built Merc engine, I’d be lying if I said I wouldn’t, but I’m just saying that “baby AMG” owners should hold their heads high because they do have something special regardless of the snobbery. The mid level performance crossover market with the Audi SQ5, BMW X3 M440i, Porsche Macan S, and the GLC 43 hit a nice sweet spot imo. So I could care less if it's a "real AMG" or not. The guys at AMG purposely tuned this car so I’m gonna take their word for it.
I agree and most of the cars in the segment don’t have hand built engines either and no one bludgeons SQ5 owners over not having one. It’s almost like it’s a marketing thing…it kinda is, but since they only do it to engines that really are highly desirable to begin with no one is burying it because it’s hand built, they buy it because it’s a special vehicle with special levels of performance. No one calls out BMW M car owners for not having hand built engines…no one really cares…TRULY, it’s just a nice bonus.
