Many of the men-in-skirts stories remind me of a story I read in the news. A catholic school in Arizona, which didn't have air conditioning in the place made the males wear full suits and ties. Of course, in late spring and early fall, this made things very uncomfortable for them. They looked in the school's dress code and found nothing in it saying they could not wear skirts. So all the boys - over 200 of them, showed up wearing skirts. The principal, whom I'll refer to as Principal Karen because that's essentially what she was, got mad and ordered the boys home to change back into full-length pants. When the parents complained about the treatment of their sons, she decided to expel every boy in the school, and then altered their records so that they were all failing consistently. Several parents had kept the report cards of the students and reported the principal to the state education board. The board arrested her for violating state law and the boys eventually got to wear shorts during the hot months. TL:DR: Demanding principal forces boys to wear skirts at catholic school, has a meltdown and eventually arrested for her actions.

Yep, Mr. Facts is a hoot, isn't he? His comments often point out unfairness and ignorance in no uncertain terms. The way he does it provides a model or template for how we can respond in a real-life situation, rather than just sitting aside with our mouths shut. It's very empowering for those of us with social anxiety.
I'm a formerly-fat white Christian woman. Unlike many atheists, Mr. Facts is *highly* respectful of believers of every stripe. It truly grinds my gears when atheists clamor for "freedom from religion" and respect, but then turn around and ridicule those who embrace some spiritual system.

I have two stories both from my sophomore year.
1- So someone dressed up as Death for Halloween. But he was extremely tall because the kid wore stilts. He knew how to walk in them fairly well and showed no signs of struggle. (You could say he was that tall because you couldn't see the stilts lol). But he was sent to the principal's office and was told he had to take them off because the school was too afraid of him getting hurt. Everyone who had seen him thought it was unfair. The kid put the stilts back on and proved he could walk in them really well. On the last week of school, he dressed as Death again and walked around the school. Both times, he took pictures with fellow students. What a legend.
2- We got a new principal when I was a sophomore because the school board decided to switch around the principals! We only found that out during the last week of school when students weren't allowed to go to other classes like the year before, and the principal was walking around the school to make sure students stayed in their assigned classes during each period. Well, students started to figure out that if they went to the desired teacher's class before the 2nd bell rang, they could stay in the class. Even the teachers were cool with it, because the teacher the students went to, emailed the student's actual teacher during that period so they weren't marked absent. And if one of the teachers wasn't okay with it, the student would be given a pass from the teacher they went to so the principal wouldn't suspect anything. The funny part is how the principal never found out.

Funny how you mention that, as a teacher you'd be bringing in pizza and salads every day to snack on with the kids. Which would definitely be an admirable and fantastic thing to do, but keeping in mind the fact you'd still be on a teacher's salary.. Realistically, you'd probably have to settle with trailmix and raisins.. but the thought still counts 👍

Went to an all girls high school and we had the “natural hair color” rule. Some girls dyed their hair silver cause “it’s a natural color”. Looked cool as hell and wasn’t against the code. Also I completely blame that school for how prolifically I curse.

The hair stories remind me of how a boy had dreadlocks for his entire middle school years, but the catholic schools he was in needed him to cut his hair before entering high school and the story was picked up by several news stations. It made them look hypocritical within their own schools and that they probably don't care if their students have to have certain hair styles or clothing for familial cultural reasons.

ok so this one is not like a lot of the stories I have heard so far.I just finished my sophomore year of high school so this story is still pretty fresh in my mind. I had British Literature class that had the worst instructions. they were so bad that I had to email the teacher on multiple occasions just asking what I was supposed to do for multiple assignments. the last assignment of the class was we had to take one of the given stories and make an alternate telling or parody of the story. I decided I would do the stupidest and smartest way of getting revenge on the bad instructions all at once. I chose the story called telephone conversation I thought about it and said to my self you know what came before the telephone the telegraph. So I rewrote the story in Morris code. I got a 100 on that assignment and had an A- in that class so I think I did pretty good all things considered.

I went to a public high school which (in general) had a very reasonable dress code. Most of the time. For whatever reason, it was decided that for the last day of regular classes the seniors would be required to Dress Up, meaning skirts past the bottom of the girls' knees and the guys had to be in long pants and sport coats/ suit jackets, and there were unreasonable consequences for non-compliance. This was in the southeast US, and in early June the temps were in the 90's most days, and not all of the school was air conditioned, so as inconvenient as it was for the girls like myself who didn't wear skirts it was AWFUL for the guys. This rule had been in place for a few years before my senior year, and each year there had been increasing pushback. In an attempt to thwart any rebellion my senior year the administration started talking about it as soon as spring semester started, and the punishment for non-compliance was increased again. Since we now had lots of time to prepare, the degree of malicious compliance was legendary. One guy's parents owned a tuxedo rental business, and they pulled out any older/ outdated/ lightly damaged jackets out of their inventory, cut a bunch of ventilation slits in the sleeves, and cut the jackets into ribbons from the armpits down, then sold them to members of our class for $15 each. Word got out that the ruling didn't say anything about pants being intact, so the plan was to get the ugliest pants they could find, and cut the legs of the pants into fringe, up to shorts level. I hate skirts, and never wore them, but was unwilling to suffer the consequences of non-compliance, so I went to the fabric store and got a piece of sheer netting for less than a dollar and wore it over shorts just wrapped around my body like a towel and tucked into my shorts. When I found out how cheap the material was, and how many colors it came in I spread the word around.
Senior Dress Up Day comes along, and of the ~600 people in my graduating class, at least a third of us had followed the letter of the rule, but certainly not the spirit. There were so many people dressed in hideous and/ or shredded clothes that an emergency assembly was called, and we all got severely scolded and they threatened to cancel graduation. Our class president stood up in his shredded suit and demanded to know how the rules had been broken, and where the precedent was for such a radical countermeasure. He and the principal just stared at each other for about 10 seconds, and which point the student sat down smugly. Graduation happened, and that was the last year that the school tried to give the graduating class heat stroke.

During my high school years, 2001-2005, I witnessed various rule breakers who outwitted the educational system.
We used to have a system called "sweeps" during my freshman year. It was to collect individuals who were late for class. Two of my students discovered that the rule made no mention of which room. The classmates snuck into the history lesson through the English class. Students were once invited to come to school in their PJs for spirit week during my freshman year. One man arrived in a tank top and boxers. There was nothing the school could do because it met the dress code. Despite not being permitted to wear a costume until senior year, I cosplay some of my favorite celebs around Halloween.
We also had the traditional pranks with fake student names. In my sophomore year, I and my gang of misfits duped the school into announcing the birthday of one of the A*Teens. Another crew used names such as Biggus Dickus and Incontinentia Buttocks. Another classmate mocked the no-hats rule by wearing an unused condom on his head. He sent me to the nurse after I facepalmed myself into a concussion and a bloody nose. Cue the anime jokes. Because of the sharing rule, a guy in another classroom handed out feminine napkins after I had an episode with my period. He must have heard about the incident.
In my junior year, I was caught hiding the crooks of a food fight. I wasn't going to tell. Someone bought her infant son for an early childhood class as a live demo. Generally, you must obtain permission from your parents. Hence, LOOPHOLE! if the student is the parent! Indeed, I had two classes with teen mothers.
Because the guidelines specify bandanas, many children have gotten away with wearing durags. Durags were not regarded as headgear or bandanas. Of course, there were exceptions for medical and religious reasons. There weren't many kids with alopecia, and despite being a public school, most students were Christians. Although it was off-campus, one couple made out in a chapel across the street. School bans are popular among students, faculty, and administration. Of course, whoever wanted a student-teacher connection in the first place? The couples' ages were close and stayed that way.
Because of my period, I took a ditch day during my senior year. Mother nature does, indeed, work in strange ways for many of us women.
Yes, I'm from the United States, Massachusetts to be exact.

@@aidenbooksmith2351 I work in a high school (10th to 12th grade) so I guess it may be different if I worked at an elementary school. It's usually a sandwich or a piece of fruit. I make it very clear at the beginning of the year that if it becomes distracting, this privilege will be taken away. Same for listening to music during tests. If I catch even one kid cheating, that privilege gets taken away from everyone for good, not just until the end of the year. Don't abuse my rules, and lessons will be a bit more bearable.

About story 25, I'm pretty sure most northern US states worked with a similar idea to what was proposed with snow days back in the "before COVID" times as I distinctly remember one year being told that we had used too many of them and we were going to be in school 1 extra day at the end of the year at the time. It sucked as a kid being told that you technically had to go to school for one more day but looking back, 1 day ain't that bad. Now I'm pretty sure those sorts of days become "online learning" days. This idea alone makes me kind of want to become a teacher in a school like that so I can just take roll and then put snow (TV static for those that aren't old enough or didn't listen to their parents' stories beyond the hills) on the screen saying something to the effect of "It's a snow day go have some *insert appropriate substitute explicative* fun." because it saddens me to know some schools will do away with them now that they've seen that they can. Also for any teachers in such a possible scenario, feel free to use my idea as I currently live in such a place where teachers wouldn't be able to get away with it anyway.

I was in college when a fight broke out in the literal middle of the school called the atrium (think courtyard surrounded by classrooms but under the roof). Someone walked in who didn’t go there but because the building is a registered national landmark (this plays in later) it wasn’t considered trespassing. The student he started the fight with got slammed through the drywall as campus security stood by and watched until the cops got there. Everyone could hear it. How the college dealt with it was to require all students and staff to wear their ID at all times. It was like a punishment for us since they couldn’t punish outsiders. Also pointless because remember it’s a national landmark and a public building so anyone was allowed to walk in off the street to visit. Besides that only one in every twelve students was wearing it. I put my ID on a dog collar around my neck and wore a dog chain hanging from the collar to my wrist. I was interviewed by the college newspaper. My statement, “I’m a walking political cartoon. I make you laugh then make you think.” I made the point that it was useless to have us wear ID unless they had a sign in desk for other people. Soon after they did have tables for temporary and added a real sign in desk a few years later.

I think everyone is familiar with the train "accident" at Tempe in Greece a few months ago. My classmates (9th grade) decided to shut the school down for two days, in honour of the accident. (tbh I didn't really see the connection here, but yeah) But we did online class anyway, and we all protested. Our school said we shouldn't have done that after everything they have done for us and bluh bluh bluh, and we tried to explain them that what they did was not fair, since we did it to honour the people who died. My school in return threatened us to cancel the three day field trip. We went anyway, but bruh. We could have shut the school down so many times more, but we didn't. That *one* time we did, which was for a good reason, they threaten us.

In 8th grade, we were allowed to be in our homeroom class 20 minutes before school started (8 o'clock), and we were not allowed on our phones during the school day. Since technically the school hours were from 8:20-3:20, many of us would be on our phones before school started. Once, my principle just had to be passing by before school and she just took my friend's phone away even though it was before school, and even the kids that hated him got mad and we just all started using our phones before school, even kids that did not usually go on them. The principle even took that same kid's phone away on the last day of school, when we were outside doing nothing, thankfully our favorite teacher gave it back to him, but we were all still pissed.

At my school all the windows and every classroom door had locks. Every teacher had a key that would open all the classrooms and windows. In year 12 one of my buddies just went to the admin, introduced himself as "the new teacher" and requested a key. Which he got. He didn't even look older than the other students, je just had the confidence to pull it off. It worked until a teacher became suspicious on why he was always first in the rooms, after which another student spilled the beans. He didn't get in trouble, because the teacher was impressed how he pulled it off. The key was taken away though😂

To story 1 and 2: I went to a catholic school. For the phone story we had so dumb rules that changed tpp frequently. When we were in 6th grade and classmates started getting good phones we couldn't use them and by rule we could have them on us if they are turned off (half the class didn't have phones then and the ones who had were using old non-smartphones). Anyway, we were told that from 7th grade we could use them. 7th grade came and they made a new rule stating that everyone must give their phones at the start of the day to the class's head teacher and could only retrieve it when going home or making an emergency call. Luckily we never had trouble with phone theft, but I wasn't going to risk my sliding Sony Ericsson so I only brought it to school once in that 2 years and that was by accident. We were told that we could use our phones in 9th grade. 9th grade came and they changed the rule that now from 7th grade or above everyone can use their phones. We were absolutely pissed, although half the class haven't given their phones in in 7th and 8th grade.
For the appearance regulations girls weren't allowed to have nail extensions until 9th grade and they didn't looked pleased with painted nails either. I knew a girl who had to get permission from the principal so she wouldn't gnaw on her nails. I'm sure they wouldn't allow haur painted with unnatural colors.
It was an alright school after all, the only part I didn't like was the so called "s*xual enlightening/family planning" class every year. The last one they gave us was about what contraception method was against God and how to have safe s*x without using any. Also the fact that they told us that a condom is only 38% effective the other outcomes are 40% ripping and 22% sperm passing through the "fabric".

3:20 My school has hair rules but they arent strict, they just ask for people to tell them if they are getting a drastic haircut so they can tell the person if that breaks rules or not. The rule is no extreme haircuts, so no mohawks. We also cant dye our hair but I have brown hair and died it slightly red snd they didnt care. We also have phone rules but EVERYONE breaks it. We are only allowed them if we need a calculator or if we are going to play kahoot. Btw my school isnt a private school.

It was the dumbest rule to break too. No rude gestures like flipping the bird. Pretty typical rule. Pretty sure that all schools had a similar one. But then comes the weird kid named Aidon. This kid, was the kid who faked mental illnesses for attention. We all know those cringe people who do that on TikTok, well he was one of them. He called himself the “autistic dinosaur” and pretty much everyone thought he was stupid. He got himself tested to prove it. He doesn’t have it. But anyway, back to the actual story. He was skipping around the halls, finds a teacher. He skips up to them, gets in their face and yells “I’m STICKING MY MIDDLE FINGER UP” and flips the teacher the bird. Kid got in school suspension for a day for yelling in a teachers face, and flipping them the bird. I witnessed the whole thing myself. Middle school was insane

My husband was in grade 6 when Columbine happened and a few weeks later we had a school shooting in Canada a few hours from where my husband lived. Now my husband was bullied a lot when he was in school and was a total nerd who later became a metal head. A few years after Columbine, when he was in grade 9, our province had their annual grade 9 exams and my husband decided to wear his grandfather’s old jacket which looked kinda like a trench coat. Some idiot kids who had bullied him freaked out about it and he got sent to the guidance counsellor, taking away time from him wiring his exam, to talk about what he was wearing. He was pissed and actually chewed out the guidance counsellor for thinking he would be stupid enough to throw away his future over a few idiots who were bullying him. The guidance counsellor then called my father in law, who was teacher at the time so knew the staff at my husband’s middle school on a professional level as well, and literally chewed them out in the exact same way my husband had. He got to wear his jacket and go back and write his test. This happened over 20 years ago and they still think it was really dumb and actually ranted to my parents about it when we had a family supper a few months ago.

There was a fun school-rule circumvention late Spring my junior year in high school. It was 1973, so picture a lot of guys with long hair, girls wearing patchwork skirts, and clean-cut kids in khaki pants (boys) and mini-skirts (girls). Billy Preston's "Will It Go Round in Circles" would be the ideal soundtrack.
There were two guys, friends since kindergarten. We'll call 'em Steve and Roy. They were seniors, and were caught up in the ecstasy of having gotten into their first-choice schools. They had abided by the rules strictly (no detentions for either of 'em) and were both in the National Honor Society. They also both rode unicycles. Well, Steve and Roy pored over the school rules. They discovered there was a rule against riding bicycles in the buildings, but nary a peep about unicycles.
During one lunch period (fortunately, mine) in the ground-floor hall of the Main Building, right in the big entrance area, Steve and Roy staged their show. They did all sorts of nifty tricks -- snatching bandanas off the floor, riding backward, even some light juggling. Naturally a crowd convened, complete with shouting, cheering, and clapping. The noise drew our principal out of his office. He was a tall (I'd guess 6'4", at least) ex-Marine; an extremely imposing figure, but a guy with a great sense of humor. He joined the crowd, laughed and applauded with the rest of us, and when Steve and Roy wound up their act, He just said, "Okay, I get it. Not strictly against the rules. But don't do it again. Oh, and unicycles will be covered in next year's rules."
Yep. The following year, the rule in the school handbook specified "recreational wheeled vehicles of any kind," or something like that. I think Mr. Principal wanted to forestall any skateboard exhibitions.
Story 17: I agree. I think you'd make an amazing teacher. Go back to school. Get your certification. Go teach young'uns to think. Oh, and consider becoming a GED tutor. You'd be dynamite! You'd love it, too. Also, if you *do* get your certification it looks freakin' amazing on your resume. Do it, Mr. Facts. Do it.

Okay, so it's a little bit of a odd story I have from my days in a private school for kids with special needs so I'll try to go as easy as I can
So I went to a special needs school in North Branch, New Jersey and well the school again was for kids with needs so the rules were pretty much basically meant to appropriate for people with disabilities. Okay that there is good enough unless you're higher functional like me. I'm on the autism spectrum yet I'm high functional. Now this one rule. I was really really shocked yet a few of us broke it without even trying. So I'm on my last year of the school in their version of high schools, senior year and well I got my driver's license. Yay! I was so excited I was able to. You know be independent and drive. the school immediately said to me that even if I have my driver's license, I am not prohibited to driving a personal vehicle onto school property. Due to student confidence I just sat there and thought to myself student confidence. So you're telling me you don't want me to drive through school and give me the encouragement to be independent? And then I thought to myself this could have been a good way for the school to save money. You know one less kids be picked up on the school bus but I didn't care. It was my last year at the school so I enjoyed having a fully functional driver's license but not using it. Then on the last day they made an exception so I drove with my parents to graduation with me driving ( well somewhat it was more of my mom driving there and me driving the family to dinner ) sure if you kids were upset who were in the year behind me and I actually was motivating and then said If you push yourself, you can get your license when the teachers weren't that happy that I said that as my last words to them. Younger generation kids who knows they can't never drive. At least I gave them some motivation on the last day of school

I have just shy of 2ft of hair. And no, I did not completely fry my hair, I know what I'm doing...just not with foil.

Dress code went to far. if a girl wears shorts they would call the mom and ask her to bring pants or take her home. If a girl wore sleeveless things same thing would happen. boys too for some reason. We were in arizona so it would burn us with pants on. One day a girl gets mad during p.e. and just fake faints. The doctors gave her water and she miraculously got back up. Then she says "They made me wear pants and hoodies, and its 80 degree's outside" The doctor was such a nice guy. He went to the principal and legit started flaming him out. we couldnt hear it obviously. but ofc some kid in the office at the moment heard it and told everyone. THE VERY NEXT DAY, every single person in the school wore shorts. including the staff. only the principal and vice principal didnt.

It's not messing with rules sort of speak but my old school used to have a Hair rule which the boys have to have short hairs and the girls have long hairs, if anyone breaks the rule, boys will have their hair forcibly shaved in public and girls will have their hair pulled (yes, i wish i was joking)
This all fine and dandy until the rules for some reason extends to Muslim girls
The rules stop being so reinforced after a wrathful asian mom reams down on the administrator for enforcing the rule on her daughter who is a muslim and has her headscarf on, also implying that they would take off her headscarf just to check her hair and forcibly pull it when it was too short for standard
(The administrator room was like next to my class and the sound of the yelling was terrifying)

I actually used to go to a catholic school, and the girls weren’t allowed to wear pants. Even in the winter, we had to wear a skirt that was just above our knees. The only thing that could help a bit was wearing tights. We couldn’t wear shorts either. The only exception for the shorts, was P.E. day. I moved to a different country, and I asked some family friends if that rule was still there. Thankfully, it’s changed and now the girls can wear pants and shorts.
