Sadly, he recently passed away. God bless you Neil.
@@stevevasell429 But Neil didn't have anything to do with their MUSIC. To be considered a "5th Beatle" should mean that you either played some instruments on their recordings (which George Martin DID, and more than the couple of songs Billy Preston played on) PLUS have a hand in creating the songs that they recorded, which George Martin, their producer also helped them with. None of the Beatles could notate music nor read music. George Martin was able to notate music for them that would be given to other musicians to read when asked to play on certain songs. When they wanted to achieve a certain sound for "Being For the Benefit of Mr. Kite," John told Martin he wanted to be able to "SMELL THE SAWDUST" on a circus floor John left it up to Martin to come up with an idea, which ultimately was searching out recordings of various calliopes (what you hear on a merry-go-round) then cutting the recorded tapes of calliopes into 4 inch pieces, flinging them up in the air, and then randomly splicing them together again. THAT is how the circus sounding background was achieved on the song. George Martin had a big part in their music from the first record on, therefore, MOST fans believe the title of the "5th Beatle" belongs to their producer George Martin.
The rooftop concert is, I would say, in the top 5 of all Beatles live performances, but has a special historical status because, as mentioned, it was the Beatles' last public appearance. All of the tracks, that were played on the roof, were brand new at the time. This was documented for the film "Let it be" (1970) and re-edited two years ago by Peter Jackson for his seven-hour documentary "Get back". They played Get back twice at the beginning and, as seen in the video, at the end of the 45-minute concert. John Lennon ended the concert with his much-quoted farewell, even on the Simpsons: "I would like to say thank you on behalf of the group and ourselves and I hope we've passed the audition". The people on the roof, apart from the cops, are the Beatles' girlfriends, spouses, the film crew and the people, who had the pleasure of lugging the equipment up to the roof on that cold January day - and then back down again. They had regular contact with the Beatles anyway, as employees of the Apple studio, on whose roof the concert took place.
If you watch the documentary “Get Back” you’ll see that the guys just lit up when Billy Preston came into the studio, they became energized and it may be the main reason they were ever able to complete their last couple of albums. Billy is widely regarded as the 5th Beatle, but a good argument can be made for George Martin.

Billy Preston would always come see them in Hamburg. in the Get Back documentary by Peter Jackson, it was mentioned that Billy always asked them to play A Taste of Honey. They were recording this live for the Let it Be album and were doing several takes of each song for safety. One of the most incredible moments of the Get Back documentary is when Paul started developing this song by just jamming on his bass.
That's when the police were threatening to arrest The Beatles if they didn't stop playing immediately so their roadie turned off John' s and George's amps in an attempt to stop them but Paul just jumped and played louder and kept singing looking at the other 2 so George walked over and turned his amp back on and then Mal (roadie) just brought Lennon's amp up too, pretty chaotic situation. Paul was like yeah let em arrest us, good end to the show and by consequence the rockumentary they were putting together.
The Peter Jackson update to the rooftop concert is called Get Back for a reason. Among other things it shows the entire arc of the song being written, starting with McCartney noodling around on his bass in the studio and coming up with the basic riff and playing around with the lyrics until they take their familiar shape. All the chatter about Yoko sitting on their amps and stuff is a lie, but people have been blaming her for the break up of The Beatles for over fifty years and the claim is simply too sexist and too xenophobic for too many people to pass up mindlessly repeating. The break up of The Beatles became inevitable when their manager Brian Epstein died. Epstein was the true fifth Beatle, but since he passed three years before they split up most people forget to connect his demise to the break up.
This was the take were Mal Evans was told by the police to pull the cables out of their amps, which he did, but the Beatles didn't let that stop them, they just plugged them back in and continued on. Mal Evan years later was shot by dead by the Police at the age of 40.
There are a few people who have been referred to as "the 5th Beatle," but the two main people who I think really could be in the running for the title are Billy Preston and the Beatles' long-time producer, George Martin. Personally, I'd give it to Martin. Billy Preston was heavily involved in the recording sessions for the band's final album and is credited by band members for reigniting their passion for writing and recording at a time when things were tense and the Beatles were losing interest in working together, but George Martin was involved in nearly all of their albums, played piano and keyboards on some of their records, and wrote or performed most of their orchestral arrangements and instrumentation in addition to actually producing the records. He was also a big part of the way the Beatles worked with tape loops and weird edits, helping give them their iconic experimental sounds during, arguably, their most creative periods. And Paul McCartney has said that Martin "easily earned the title of the Fifth Beatle." Ofc, tbf, Paul McCartney has given that title to multiple people over the years, including the band's manager, Brian Epstein, so, y'know, take McCartney's endorsement with a grain of salt. But, imo, out of all the choices of potential 5th Beatles, Martin is the one who truly collaborated in an artistic way with the music through a majority of their career and helped take the Beatles to the experimental places that defined their most creative works. Billy Preston is a genius musician, absolutely kills it on the keys, and contributed to the writing toward the end especially, but Martin was a core part of all the mid-to-late career stuff that most people think of when they think of the creativity and genius of the Beatles.
They played this song three times, this one being the last. It is also one of the few songs that John Lennon played lead guitar on. George was absent during rehearsal for it.
Preston played keys with just about every musician of note back in those days… from Sam Cooke & Ray Charles to Clapton & the Stones & the Chili Peppers as well as hundreds of credits on albums of the 60’s through the early 2000’s.
This third take had the police sniffing about and that put them off, hence McCartney joking as he sang 'gonna have you arrested'. John's last line was a classic, '“I would like to say thank you on behalf of the group and ourselves and I hope we've passed the audition.”
The only thing I know for sure about this song is that Jo Jo went and bought himself some California grass!! Other than that, I'm clueless - and it don't matter to me. 🤘🤘
The police were there to arrest them, so their road manager, Mal Evans, turned off the Amp that had George's, and John's guitars plugged in. That is why you only hear the bass and drums for a few seconds. George didn't I've a crap, so he reached to the back and turned it back on, and they continued with the song. The true Fifth Beatle was their producer George Martin. He contributed so much to their sound through their career. Billy Preston contributed a bit to a couple of songs on Let It Be. He was great though.
No they were not there to arrest them. They asked politely for the concert to end or turn volume right down. Down on the streets it was gridlock so nobody could get to work and emergency services could not get through. I've known the area well since 1978 and I've been stuck in gridlock there or cycled or walked through gridlock there. Ten years ago, we had to get out of a gridlocked minicab to get to our son's wedding in a nearby church - OK for me, not so easy for the ladies in our party, such as my wife, who had highish heels, hats, and other finery
@@cuebj For the 50th anniversary of the roof top concert, there was an interview with one of the policeman that was there on the roof (you see him in the video above) He said in the interview that YES they would have arrested the Beatles IF they didn't stop after Get Back (which they did).) After Mal Evans pulled the plug on George's amp, and George turned it back on, you see Mal Evans return to the police to tell them they WILL stop when the song was finished. That is why you see the police leave. When you see the whole roof top concert and the scenes that show what was going on at street level on Savile Row, you will see a police paddy wagon pull up. That was there to transport the Beatles to the police station if they were arrested. They wouldn't have sent the wagon if they had NO intention of arresting them.
This was their last time performance together they just finished their last album when I watched it there were only 3 channels and they did a whole concert.
John Lennon for a brief moment had his amp turned off because the police showed up on the roof and Lennon had to tell his tour manager to turn it back on! It’s why things sounded a bit sloppy

Hey guys, cool that you’re watching the Beatles rooftop concert. But, you didn’t pick the right one they did like five different takes the London Police Department came and shut down John’s guitar in the one you’re doing you …should’ve found one where they had to complete song…😎
On your opening statement about the only thing left alive (the joke goes)..it would be Keith Richards ......LOL......more accurate than the Beatles who are down to just two !!!!!!!
The song originally was meant to be a satire of British politician, Enoch Powell who famous for his anti-immigrant (and somewhat racist) stance towards immigrants moving to the UK from places like Pakistan. They realized listeners might not see it as satire and might take it as support for Enoch Powell's views, so the song evolved into what you hear now.
I ever tell yoy guys my parents got married the same day John Lennon was shot? December 8th, 1980. And yes, this was indeed at the end of the Beatles' career, shortly before John would quit the band. On that basis, I think you guys would do well to check out the song "God" from John Lennon.

Yeah, you picked the wrong version to listen to, the version that ended up on the Let It Be album is better than this. This version is a mess really, for obvious reasons, the police were turning the bloody amps off!
Lennon didn't like this song too much since Paul wrote it while Yoko was sitting there. Paul would look at her, practicing the song, and shout "Get back to where you once belonged.". The other 3 were a little annoyed that she was sitting on their amps.
A couple of the police said they really didn’t want to stop it but some damn idiots in an office complained ..we never did find out who the idiots were

I had all their previous Lp's and they were fun where as with "Revolver" even at 9 I knew this Lp was a different breed of cat, it was cool and then came "Pepper" and "MMT" Dude, Wow! What a great time to be a kid. Here's my life now, my son is 30 and his gf is 26. Back in like July we were going to Wal Mart. My neighbor across the alley is a widow who doesn't drive so I always ask her if I can pick her anything up. She wanted a couple cantaloupes, I don't like them, never buy them. I don't know what I'm doing. I'm squeezing cantaloupes and my son says from behind me "Why are you groping cantaloupes"? His gf chimes in and says " Yeah, that's weird". I thought they were joking but they were dead ass serious and they said it again and again. I snapped and said are you F**king kidding me"? No, they weren't. My son said stop or they were leaving and I could find a ride home. So don't feel bad, look at me. I've been accused of groping cantaloupes. Yeah, that's my life. How is my brain supposed to processes this stupid BS? Peace❤

And Paul McCartney has said that Martin "easily earned the title of the Fifth Beatle."
Ofc, tbf, Paul McCartney has given that title to multiple people over the years, including the band's manager, Brian Epstein, so, y'know, take McCartney's endorsement with a grain of salt.
Huh? Preston played on one, repeat, one album. Even then, not on all tracks.
@@mjames4709
No he didn’t. He played on “Let It Be” and “Abbey Road”.
Let us also not forget Geoff Emerick and the other engineers involved.
Stuart Sutcliffe.
There's a joke that on the cover of Abbey Road you can see the "5th Beatle". There's a Volkswagen Beetle on the street behind them.
😆
My favorite beetles song!!! Love this jam!!
That’s BeAtles with an A.
This third take had the police sniffing about and that put them off, hence McCartney joking as he sang 'gonna have you arrested'. John's last line was a classic, '“I would like to say thank you on behalf of the group and ourselves and I hope we've passed the audition.”
Morning guys! Great song! Didn't know it was 3rd take. Lol. ❤
The only thing I know for sure about this song is that Jo Jo went and bought himself some California grass!! Other than that, I'm clueless - and it don't matter to me. 🤘🤘
Ringo killing it , on a roof , in UK , in 42 degree weather. 😂❤
@@cuebj For the 50th anniversary of the roof top concert, there was an interview with one of the policeman that was there on the roof (you see him in the video above) He said in the interview that YES they would have arrested the Beatles IF they didn't stop after Get Back (which they did).)
After Mal Evans pulled the plug on George's amp, and George turned it back on, you see Mal Evans return to the police to tell them they WILL stop when the song was finished.
If there was going to be a 5th Beatle, it would be George Martin
Billy Preston was on the entire 'Let it Be' album he is the 5th Beatle.
This was their last time performance together they just finished their last album when I watched it there were only 3 channels and they did a whole concert.
“It’s like we know so much”……..😂😂😂😂 4:09
Still waiting on Chester Bennington System. Howdy though peeps 🎉🎉
Stuart Sutcliffe was the 5th Beatle
Most of us back in the day had George Martin their producer as the 5 th Beatles
It was about them getting back to their pre-studio tricks roots.
Although the roof top performances were historic, the best version of "Get Back" is the single version! Give that a listen! 😁
Enjoyed that , as a fellow scouser...🥰💃🇬🇧
Love the scouser accent. I need a translator most of the time though
@smokeyrameriz478 hahhaahah i am not as strong scouse , but yea it can be difficult , my none scouse friends request i say chicken ...🤭
John Lennon for a brief moment had his amp turned off because the police showed up on the roof and Lennon had to tell his tour manager to turn it back on! It’s why things sounded a bit sloppy
WHEW!!! The British Bobbies almost arrested The Beatles😲
Those haters
5th Beatle, Billy Preston on keys.
The Break Up of the Beatles was a Big Deal at the time...they had so many Hits, the most Loyal and often. Hysterical Fans. They stopped Touring because no one could Hear the Music over the Screaming Teenage Girls!
Its so sad to know that's the last time they performed together 💔😭
This song, from what I have always been of the understanding of , is about how the U.S. and the United Kingdom felt about immigrants. It's really a shame we find out in today's age it hasn't changed because their is so much bigotry and racism , that it has been okay to show since 45 in 2016. SMH that we haven't evolved to be better !
The Outlaws " Train Train". Play It!
5th Beatle is George Martin!
Hey roaches vs beetles, Beatles yeah survivors forever❤😂
You think you've done a lot of The Beatles? Not even close. You have a LONG way to go. This is just a fraction of my Beatles music library.
The songs in bold are the ones you have reacted to.

There are MORE songs than what you listed....they wrote over 200 songs.
Their last “concert”. Watch the Peter Jackson documentary on the making of this album. You see the fracture of the band starting.
MUSIC GODS❤❤❤❤
November 21 1974 George Harrison and Billy Preston in Tulsa Oklahoma
Billy Preston on the keys!
Billy Preston was sitting in as a session musician. He wasn't the "5th Beatle".
Hey guys, cool that you’re watching the Beatles rooftop concert. But, you didn’t pick the right one they did like five different takes the London Police Department came and shut down John’s guitar in the one you’re doing you …should’ve found one where they had to complete song…😎
Iconic performance. Maybe Yellow Submarine next by them?
🔥😎
🎶Get Back, Get Back Yoko, Get back to where you once belonged...🎶
On your opening statement about the only thing left alive (the joke goes)..it would be Keith Richards ......LOL......more accurate than the Beatles who are down to just two !!!!!!!
Funny thing that they got a whole bunch of noise complaints which is why the cops are there.
🌸 the police wanted them to stop so they kept unplugging their amps during the song.
And now especially London is more like Pakistan...
@@HenritheHorsepeople said the same back then too. They’ve never been to Pakistan.
@@AlBarzUK Now it's clear.

The roaches survive because they listened to the Beatles.
You gotta do MIND'S EYE by IZZY EDIBLE!
I ever tell yoy guys my parents got married the same day John Lennon was shot? December 8th, 1980.
And yes, this was indeed at the end of the Beatles' career, shortly before John would quit the band. On that basis, I think you guys would do well to check out the song "God" from John Lennon.
It was a Monday. Courthouse low key affair no doubt.
Also, you cut off the famous line John Lennon says at the end of the performance. I won't ruin it for you, you have to watch it.
Get back
JoJo
Hey we aren't gonna rewrite history. GEORGE MARTIN was and always will be THE FIFTH BEATLE.
ABSOLUTELY, it IS GEORGE MARTIN as the "FIFth BEATLE"
They were not the first Rock band to perform on a rooftop in a major city.
The Jefferson Airplane did the same thing in December 68 . They were also forced to stop by the police
th-cam.com/video/vuwMEiNg3B8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=o0c_w1JWAO2o4P9X
This wasn’t the final recording of this song on the roof! They did a better more complete version that sounded so much better than this version!
4 minutes trash talk first!
They don't make them like that anymore.
Goo Goo Ga Joob....
They weren't my favorite group but they did have some good songs
Será que foi daqui que os U2 tiveram a ideia de fazer igual ao gravar where the streets haver no name?
Fact:
Many people do not express themselves by rhythmically contorting their bodies in ridiculous & embarrassing ways.
Can't seem to find Come Together in your videos...did you not do a reaction? Or am I just misunderstanding this?
They did, but TH-cam may have blocked it and taken it down for some reason.
I have always heard cockroaches and Cher!
How could❤ you leave out Keith (Keef) Richards?
Can you react to Anger in defeat
You cut out the best part…the very end!!!!!
Billy Preston was not the "5th" Beatle. Get real dude only played on a few songs. Do your research, George Martin is considered the 5th Beatle
One of the other takes was a lot better.
It was for their movie called Let it Be. They did 5 songs on the rooftop, and 2 of those songs they did a couple takes for the film maker. This just turned out to be their last show, that wasn''t the plan that day.
Maybe you could find a better quality vídeo and audio.
You know guys it’s okay to google information so that you don’t sound like complete idiots… the song is mocking anti immigration in the 1960s
A cop came over and turned John's amp off. They are not supposed to be playing like that.
A couple of the police said they really didn’t want to stop it but some damn idiots in an office complained ..we never did find out who the idiots were
The song was about mocking anti immigration but I have no doubt that Paul took the opportunity to sing it looking at Yoko 😂
You know there is a movie showing them crafting the song right? Have you seen it? Yoko was not sitting on their amps and Paul sang the song looking at everybody in the room at one point or another. But hey, whatever, indulge yourself in some Yoko bashing like all the other haters.
Stop making sh!t up.
These losers commenting on the Beatles. What the f.
Damn, you picked the worst version of this track, messed up guitar parts, bad vocals, and police interference.
It seems like anytime someone disagrees, that it’s trash talk. I wasn’t doing trash talk. But maybe the reactor should do their homework first… and not just put any video that they find, maybe they should check it out first.. what a concept.. trash talk… can’t take criticism…b.s
That's the world we live in now. These young people are hypersensitive now.
If they don't agree with you then you're trash talking them or their precious little feelings are hurt.
Your comment was just trying to help them out, at least that's how I read it.
I don't know maybe I'm wrong. 😂 Was someone really offended by your comment? If so then WOW! Maybe they should listen to Taylor Swift and her positivity BS! My favorite Beatles record memory was from 1966. I was nine yrs old and got the "Revolver" Lp and when I heard the last track "Tomorrow Never Knows" it scared me, like literally creeped me out and scared me but then I had to play it again. That was the first really big Wow music moment in my life. I had all their previous Lp's and they were fun where as with "Revolver" even at 9 I knew this Lp was a different breed of cat, it was cool and then came "Pepper" and "MMT"
Dude, Wow!
Peace❤
They don’t pick the videos, there’s someone behind the scenes who picks them. Also if they checked out the videos first, then it’s not a genuine first time reaction. Then people want to cry that “they’ve seen this before” 🤷🏻♀️
Doing research doesn’t spoil the reaction. I see it all the time on other channels…. Just make sure what you’re gonna show us is worthy…
@@phillipfitton8364 got ya… but no matter what they do, someone is gonna find something to cry about in the comments. I hope they don’t change just to please people. They are who they are and they don’t have to be like everybody else on TH-cam. That’s all. Have a great day 😊
