My Oma was Hungarian and used to make this all the time! I have missed her cooking and baking so much. I made a recipe book for some of our family with some of her hand written recipes, but I couldn’t find this one. Your accent reminds me of her and warms my heart. Thank you!
my grandmother made a version of this and I never got to watch her do it. every Christmas I watch different videos and get to see different versions of this recipe. from your video I learn that my loaves to to be pricked with a fork!! thankyou for sharing your recipe and your tips and tricks!
I am making this for the first time this year. My grandmother always made them for Christmas. Thank you so much for your videos and have a blessed Christmas!
Thank you for making these videos in English! My mom and her side of the family are Hungarian and I enjoy making Hungarian recipes so I can learn more about my heritage. This is my favorite Hungarian desert. ❤️
I enjoy learning about the different ways Hungarians make this traditional walnut roll. My edes anyam always added a dash of rum, along with the lemon zest, to the walnut paste. I have carried on the tradition of making a walnut roll every Christmas for the past 20+ years to honour my Hungarian heritage. Thank you (koszonom) for showing each step in the process. Just listening to you speak is making me miss my mom (she passed away in 2019). 💕🇨🇦
I love that you made this recipe. I never thought I could make this most delicious special roll but here you show me its possible. I just bought one today for $14 I try to get this every Christmas. Thank you. This was brilliant.
My grandparents immigrated to Chicago from area that was Hungary when they lived there but now Burgenland, Austria. All her recipes were Hungarian. I loved this walnut bread that she called " strudel" as think she didn't know what to call it in English. As a child I watched her make it every year and was given the recipe but lost it. Your video is identical to what she did. Don't remember the lemon but definitely going to use it and follow your helpful step by step directions exactly. Your beautiful accent is identical to my Oma's and found your video to be a very nostalgic experience. Can't wait to get started. Do you have a paprika chicken and liver dumpling recipe? I was in a Budapest restaurant a few years ago that served it and it and tasted exactly how I remembered. Thank you so much I loved your video and definitely want to follow you. Don't take those critics to heart:) Bless you and have a wonderful holiday season.
My grandmother was from Lockenhaus, Austria, but I remember her mentioning Hungry once. Like your grandmother, she made this exact nut roll and poppyseed too. I still have her recipe, but she always let the dough rise 1 1/2 hours first, then roll out and fill and let rise again for a tender, lighter dough. Her streudels were nice and high and dark golden brown.
Thank you for posting this! I am making it for my Dad for Christmas and really didn't know how to roll the dessert. I unfortunately never watched my Slovak grandmother make this so I didn't know how! Thank you
Wow. Really beautiful recipe. I already tried making your four layer Hungarian cake and my husband and neighbour fell in love with it. You provide detailed information and easy to follow. Bravo 🎉and keep up the good work
THANK YOU!! For posting this. I Lost my Nagymama last year to COVID. She made these every Christmas. Being able to make this made Christmas more tolerable without her and I can continue her tradition in our family 🇭🇺❤️
Omg, I am Hungarian but I live in Puerto Rico 🇵🇷 , you make me remember this special Christmas rolls my mother make for us, I will love to lear more Hungarian dishes and desserts, please let me know if you will posting more goodie’s?
Now I know how to make it. My Mom used to make these every Christmas, my favorite dessert and Hungarian tradition. My Mom used to put raisin with the walnut and chocolate wth the poppyseed. Guess what I'm making tomorrow.
Imádtam a diós süteményt, a diót mindig megtisztítottam és őröltem kézi malóval, anya pedig kakaóval, nagypapámnak pedig sós paprikával és csípős paprikával 😀❤️
These look so delicious. Thats a beautiful dough and I guess there's some out there that won't know how to bake so needs it step by step. Just as there are those of us that don't. Hope you have a wonderful holiday
Thank you for your video. My problem was I wasn’t poking the fork down far enough and forgot to do the sides. But it tasted very good especially with powdered sugar on it. Merry Christmas to you and your family🎄boldog Kara’csonyt
@@GourmetHungarian is it “fast acting” yeast or original yeast? My grandma used the fleishman packets but I do not know which one to buy as your recipe seems closest to what I remember.
I am buying the yeast in Costco and a bigger box and it works very well. You can use any kind. I guess you have to figure out which one works for you..

Köszönöm szépen a videót! Ha vajat használok a maragarine helyet, ez megváltoztatja a bejgli tésztáját?
szerintem, nem
Like my grandmothers!!
Is it 2 cups of walnuts that you chop up or 2 cups of chopped walnuts?
Yes.
The latter, but you you’ve figured this out already

Active yeast, instant yeast or rapid rise yeast?
doesn't matter
how long do you let it rise
1 hour or double in size.

If you don't eat with to much salt add just 1 table spoon.
butter or margarine?
either one.
What are the exact measurements
click on show more and you will find it.
2 tablespoons of yeast?! Did you mean 2 teaspoons? It seems a dough of only four cups of flour would need a couple of teaspoons of yeast!
2 tablespoons, click on show more and you will find the recipe. Sorry this is an old video. I will make a new one soon.

So many ppl saying no lemon? Every version I’ve had has had some lemon at least a small amount.
It's up to you. Sometimes I
add sometimes I don't
😊😊😊😊
Hello kosonom szepen, edesh Anya sokta chinalne de en nem tutom hodgy kel
They didn't have lemons back in the day. They made use of what they had. No walnut roll that I have ever ever seen lemon.
Me either I’m Slovak though!
Ilk to add because the lemon zest add good flavor.
Mom added raisins to the walnut…
I do too, but my daughter don't like it.
