I broke one of the bones in the arm right above the wrist while snowboarding. It was on a jump and i lost my balance a little on the landing and touched the ground with my arm and kept on riding down the rest of the slope. It hurt a little bit in the arm when i touched the ground to regain balance, but very minimal pain so i did not think more about it until i got to the bottom of the slope and was going to loosen the bindings of my snowboard. And then i noticed my right hand was not working... So i pulled up my jacket sleve and there was a big bump where one of the bones in the arm was misaligned and i knew right away that my arm was broken. But it was strange that it was so little pain when i broke it. But later in the hospital when they pulled the arm bone back in alignment THAT was a lot of pain. With two nurses pulling on one side of the arm and a doctor pulling on the other side of the arm with no local anesthesia.

Could you do a video on wraping or not a rib fracture on the field? Would you recommend someone who likes to back country backpack for days at a time to carry a splint with them? I go on multi day hikes sometimes and I have a very basic medical kit. I was going to buy an IFAK kit and get some plaster cast and splint rolls to put in it for just in case.
Hey Sam. If a patient has a severe engulation of a long bone, would a fasplint or other type of vacuum splint be more appropriate than a rigid splint such as the sam or prosplint?
1 Don't tape or strap over joints or wounds 2 immobile joints distal and proximal to the injury 3 Check CMS before and after 4 Splint as found unless traction splint is required (angular frac)
Another good rule of thumb... if the frac is on an arm, after splinting check CMS, then take a roll of gauze and place it in the patients hand to hold, thus maintaining a "position of function." You will impress docs and nurses alike.
Thx for another great material! Can you make a video on your motorcycle first aid kit? I am just buying my first motorcycle, and I am interested in your point on view on first aid kit in limited space.

All Recon Medical products are made in China. Granted, that doesn't necessarily mean they won't work, not all Chinese products necessarily fit the stereotype of Chinese quality control. But considering that US-made products that are approved by CoTCCC aren't **that** much more expensive than the Chinese products, I'd avoid rolling the dice with Chinese quality control when buying first aid gear. For example, the Recon Medical knockoff CAT is only ten dollars cheaper than a real CAT tourniquet. And the Recon Medical knockoff of the SAM splint is only five dollars cheaper than an actual SAM splint.
So the DOCTORS didn't even know what to do with mine and wanted me to go home from ER bc an X-ray didn't show a break; because there was too much swelling or it didn't show it at first but when I came back and did another X-ray, it showed a break from one side of the bone, all the way up the shaft and stopped on the other side of the bone. I couldn't believe they missed it the first time.
