Master Tung's Acupuncture Points the 7 Tigers (77.26)

The region on the urinary bladder meridian from UB 58 - UB 60 is where Master Tung's points the 7 Tigers are located. They are known for treating shoulder and scapular pain. In this video, I discuss the anatomy of this region and how it relates to the tai yang meridians.

In the Master Tung system, we think of these points as being located between the urinary bladder and gallbladder channels. They can be used for neck and shoulder pain that affects either of these meridians. For instance, pain and tightness at GB 21 can be alleviated with these points. They are also useful when neck and shoulder pain is present in both the tai yang and shao yang meridians.
As the UB meridian connects to the SI meridian by way of the tai yang pairing, these points are useful for pain in the scapula and at points like SI 11, SI 12, and SI 13. The acupuncture point SI 13 is at the location where the levator scapulae attaches to the scapula. A common pattern to see in the clinic is pain that moves from the neck to SI 13. This usually indicates tightness in the levator scapulae muscle. These points are very effective for this pattern.
One advantage of using these points rather than local ones is that you can have the patient move their neck and shoulders while doing the treatment.
