Fabio, i fkin love you dude! This is absolutely insane! 5800x + 7900XTX user here, playing 4k resolution. The only game where i had huge problems with stuttering was Farming Simulator 2022, in Silverrun Forrest Map especially where there were lots and lots of trees. Couldn't get past 60 fps no matter what, with drops to 30 happening a lot, CPU hovering at 20% use, GPU usage never going over 60%, it was unplayable and i couldn't understand why since FS22 is a shitty game, poorly optimized indeed but still... So I disabled core isolation and the FPS on that map jumped to 120. Double than before! And it's a joy to play now. I can't believe it! You made my day sir and you made me love my AMD setup again. Thank you Fabio!
Glad I could help!
You owe him at least 300 bucks. 5 bucks/frame.
What game is it at the end looks fun
Exactly. I disabled mine too to have my computer working as it should. All other youtubers pretend that core isolation does not affect gaming but they are wrong
I freaking hate when MS forces those security settings I don't need because in already secure enough.
I trust Microsoft, Core isolation is now activated
knowing that they isolate my cores makes me feel safe and comfortable
They even call every month or so from India to make sure my PC is OK.
hehehehe
The best method for security is dedicate devices and systems for task with specific configuration - for example I never use my gaming machine to any banking activity or work, the same with i have with smartphone (i have two) - one dedicated with number for normal contact and fun and another for more critic information ( two numbers). So I have two laptops and one PC - one for work, one for banking stuff (Linux with some KVM and non standard configuration ), and one gaming station....
@@adamb.7683 Might want to put them on separate subnets too!
L🤫L
@@adamb.7683 This is exactly what most of us should do if we can. We can even go one step higher and have another wifi connection, or route vulnerable machines through a PiHole setup or equivalent. Another tip is to dual boot Windows + Linux, with browsing on Linux and yank the LAN cable out when gaming on Windows, except for maybe logging in to Steam or other launchers when their security token expires - most can be run offline up to a month. Of course, this is only applicable to single player games.

Between Windows and Next Gen games we are just losing performance for no reason.
This is why windows 11 bad started but it’s eventually stopped
@@quintrapnell3605 explain? windows 11 is better for gaming than win10?
Windows 11 required TPM and virtualization and it was tanking performance in games. They also had issues with Ryzen. If you compare them both now on a modern machine you will not notice any difference however. This is especially true because windows 11 simply cannot be installed on old machines.
I just use proton on linux these days. I'm sure there are some anticheat hazards still but I've not run into any problems yet.
@@SirSomnolent the problem is most of the PC gamer are on Nvidia and it performs worse without windows because it has not been very open source. I saw news implying they were working with Linux recently however so this may be resolved now or in the near future.
Even if the gains are small, having a more stable and less stuttery experience is always a must for me
As usual, hope you guys find this helpful and that you can actually achieve higher FPS & better smoothness!
Yup discovered that this was the reason my 8700k sucked now. after disabling my fps went up 15% to 100% in some games. Bf1 for instance weny from 100 to the max that the engine allows which is i think 200.

What a legend! Can confirm turning off memory integrity checking gave me at least a 6-7% increase in max fps potential on a heavily modded cyberpunk on my 7800x3d/4090 combo, but the real winner here is not the max/avg fps, it's the 1% lows and stutter reduction. Capping my fps to 60 used to still give me stutters in specific areas and scenarios, those are almost completely gone and my frame time graph is a thing of beauty now!
And what exactly did you do? Deactivate what in specific?
@@leandroperez295 Memory integrity checking, as Fabio just showed you.

Obregato! For doing Assetto Corsa and Racing simulators! I don't see this on most benchmarking tests.
Just did this in WoW with my R9 7900. Never thought this would have any impact but I was wrong. A solid 15 - 20 FPS + in Valdrakken where it's heavily CPU bound cause of player density.

Oh wow didn't even know this existed, thank you again for your teachings! :D W10 opened start menu, typed core isolation and found it inside system security settings. Was off for me. Never used hyper-v or such virtualization stuff. Learned about it first when searching around in BIOS/UEFI :D
I noticed this fairly quickly after benching my new PC a few weeks back and noticing my setup got less score than identical setups. I disabled core isolation and immediately received the "Free PC Upgrade" achievement in 3dmark, my bench score jumping by ~15% e.g. in TimeSpy from 27k to 31k! Insane.

If you want a nice benchmark in Assetto Corsa Competizione, get a Nordschleife Rain Replay with a massive amount of cars. (Requires the Nordschleife DLC though)
I tested with the max amount of cars I could in a german track. I started adding assetto now as people requested it
@@AncientGameplays I was pleasantly surprised to see it included! Many of the players of this game have opted for an X3D cpu as it seems the extra cache is enjoyed by the game engine.
(Recently the Nordschleife track/dlc was released, but due to it's size and the possibility of running over 100 cars on track the framerates have dropped over there).
@@AncientGameplays the 24H Nordschleife is VERY taxing, I have to lower all my settings to not get stutters, especially near the pitlane, just for that track. In the base version of the game there's the Grand Prix version of the Nurburgring, recently they have released the endurance part (Nordschleife), which is the 20 and odd km one.
Edit: in ACC there is a way to see other people PoV. After you press Drive, press Shift+Left/Right arrow key and you can see the other person's POV, so if you want to see the bots going around you can just stay in pits and watch them race.
Thank you! I subbed! Edited: OMG it totally worked, thank you so much
Nice tip dude! Gonna try it with my 9900K/1080 combo.
I think it is worth noting that virtualization is disable by default in bios. And I am pretty sure most people don't use it, so they don't have to worry about this.
Actually that only happens on recent am4 bios I believe, my am5 had it on and so did my 12600K
@AncientGameplays so you are saying that with newer boards, it is enabled by default? Damn, I had my fare share of boards in the past, and it was always disabled by default. But since microsft needs it for this crap, it is not a surprise that the settings changed. I saw a bios update for my b450 had something about important security changes in update notes, so maybe they are turning it on by default like they did tpm.

Core isolation is one of those security features that have been known for a long time to affect gaming, but I didn't realize that it was now on by default. I always disable anything Windows Defender related whenever I install Windows, exactly because of this. You never know what kind of setting is enabled for absolutely no reason which can affect gaming performance or the performance of your entire PC in some cases. I usually never get any malware so I don't need any anti-virus.
Yeah but even then, it will enable this shit sometimes
@@AncientGameplays Haha yeah. I wish Microsoft would stop enforcing this kind of stuff by default.
Much the same here, the most I use is 1.1.1.2 DNS resolving, because it blocks mal sites, and a firewall using portmaster. Can't get viruses if the places that have them are blocked, along with me just not being an idiot when downloading, clicking, or visiting sites. Plus portmaster blocks specific CDNs of common sites, programs, etc. So it's good for being a system wide adblock. (and when not on windows, well then nobara linux be doing the job just fine) (as for windows changing your settings and such, id recommend checking out christitustech and his windows debloat program, as well as O&O shut up to get windows to stop calling home and making changes so often) Yeah doing all these little config changes is why I barely touch windows now, too much work.
I wouldn't say it's enabled for absolutely no reason.
What core isolation does is that it divides important processes in the PC's memory. Now where this plays a big part is in security, by isolating important pc memory processes malicious code has harder time spreading through your pc.
Good security is like a good psu, you don't want to skip on it. I'd say that a small performance hit is always better than having your PC being infected as hackers have been getting quite creative and the issues may be coming from things you can't quite affect or expect, like the case with Apex Legends getting hacked and spreading malware.
@@DrunkenJoeh If you want security, use virtual machines on Linux and isolate your gaming environment from anything else. But that's not feasible for most people because of their specs.
My point is, Windows has absolutely nothing to do with security. Malware can easily get past Windows Defender, and even with Core Isolation turned on, you can't do anything about it. I have done some RAT work myself and I can get past most AVs lmao. A digital signature is enough to stop the AVs from raising suspicion, and a RAT done properly that uses exploits to leverage permissions will be unstoppable by Defender.
TL;DR, all Windows does is slow down your PC for the sake of saying it's protecting your PC. Sure it may protect you from regular malware, but that's the user's fault and if you're smart about the sources you download from and what you run on your computer, you don't need any protection. What we need protection from is exploits. Those need patches done by Microsoft, not Windows Defender or Core Isolation.
>Slower CPU

I LOVE YOU. I am so happy I stumbled upon this video. Linus Tech Tips needs to hear about this and popularize this, my FPS went up by 100. I feel like if I just got a new pc. I remember, when I first got my PC I had 400-500+ FPS in range in valorant, but after a while I had only 300. Turns out it was bc of virtualization, as I installed Visual Studio Code for schoolwork, which needed virtualization. THANK YOU AGAIN!!!!
Hi Fabio! My core isolation and virtualization are turned off on my 5800X3D system, however I think I am still running into a CPU bottleneck in a specific scenario and was curious if you have seen it. In the latest version of Avatar (with the fixed frame generation) and the 24.4.1 drivers on my 7900 XTX using the Digital Foundry optimized settings, in the area called "The Circle" with all the little tents up in the plains area, it gets extremely stuttery where the frame time graph looks like a sine wave if I have frame generation enabled. If I turn off frame generation, I get around 75 - 85 fps in this area but it is with smooth frametime. Other than this one specific area, frame generation works flawlessly. The odd thing is my CPU doesn't appear to be maxed out either, but figured it could be some sort of optimization issue. Even if I turn down settings this still happens. Very odd...
Ahah 15 min is not short😂
Wirh this amount of benchmarks? Kinda is
If you have an all-in-one security solution like Bitdefender, would turning off Memory Integrity really matter? Is that a Windows-specific security feature, or do other software do it too? I have an intel processor as well, is this an AMD-specific problem or does it work for Intel as well?
That's something i suspected but never checked thanks for the informative video. My pc was with virtualisation enabled by default... 😂
Never clicked on a setting so fast! Thank you Computer Jesus! 🙏
Would it be system dependent too? or is this one of those rare settings where regardless of system the setting affects you negatively? I ask because I'm trying to decide if its worth spending a few hours of my time benchmarking the two on my rig lol
nice find here
Hey there Fabio thanks for your videos. Have you heard anything about the high power draw on idle AMD gpus lately? It was supposed to have been fixed with drivers at the end of 2023 and you had previously made a video about creating a custom resolution to fix it before the "real" driver fixes helped. I've heard reports of those fixes helping in many situations. However, if you have a Samsung g9/neo g9 the problem still persists. It still ramps up the VRAM at idle so the cards are drawing 100w(ish) at idle. A quick google search of the problem says it's more than just me and it didn't get fixed in this scenario. Any ideas or anything that you have heard of lately?
Most of those issues were fixed. Apart from some odd scenarios with multiple displays, it should be fine
If virtualization is shut off altogether like you did there's no need to worry about needing core isolation. It can always turned back on if or when its needed..
Is this worth doing on a 6700xt, ryzen 5 7600 pc?
Also, where to the virtualizatiom setting in bios?
