Why are some championships at the standard 5k distance and others at 6k? Was 5k determined to be too short? Thought they could get consistent at some point.
High school championship distances are 5 km (except for a couple of states). College women run 6 km while men run 8 km during the season and 10 km for post-season. This race in particular is a college race.
