    No mention of that poor young lady struggling to make it to the line. Her body just quit. Terrible feeling. She was crawling when the cut the video. Hope she made it and is doing well. Much respect to her!!!!!

    The commentating is a little confusing. There is a shoeless runner, and a Schulist runner.
    Shoeless = Annie Bothma who is running barefoot for Boise State.
    Schulist = Rachele Schulist who is running for Michigan State.

      I ran in college in the late 1970's with Africans that ran barefoot. The bottoms of their feet were thick with callouses. The soles of each foot was like a thick piece of rubber and they couldn't even feel the asphalt on a hot summer day. In fact, wearing shoes seemed to irritate their feet. They were most comfortable sans shoes.

    Just me or is the map annoying to anyone else? Maybe show it for a second but not near as long as they keep it up.
    Camera coverage doesn’t follow the race very well either.

    The barefoot runner was Annie Bothma of Boise State. It was the only meet that she would compete in for the Broncos. She was injured in a traffic accident after this meet. She was hit by a truck while bicycling on campus. After she recovered,she decided to transfer East to Coastal Carolina to be reunited with her South African friends, Kyla and Aynslee Van Graan. She now competes for CCU and does still run barefoot.

    • @steveohmygoodness7
      @steveohmygoodness7 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      She may have an injury or it could just be collapsing from overheating/exhaustion. You see this from time to time at the finish line of these races although not usually to that severe a degree. The race officials and people are really trying to help her, but if they touch her in any way then she is disqualified from the race. At these big events like this you will literally see a half dozen people or more standing about 10 yards past the finish line whose sole job is to escort exhausted runners out of the way of other finishing runners to avoid collisions and pile-ups. But if they have finished the race, then you can literally pick them up and carry them away with risking disqualification. However, if a runner is in real distress (like losing consciousness) then a call to an on-site doctor is always made.

      I would have been fast like these girls long by now but my high school gym coaches thought otherwise. They decided I was not likely to run a marathon and thus devastated my confidence as a runner for 6 years. I was a young teen back then with no support group or friends to get encouragement from so when these coaches decided I was not going to run a marathon even though I was running 15 miles a week and had done a 6:20 mile, there was nothing positive to motivate me to prove them wrong until I entered college. Now, those coaches are so wrong and I am working towards my first 13.1 and will be running a 26.2 in the next 2 years or less!
