Honestly with how they've been talking about Basil and getting progressively more distracted, I believe they're beginning to forget him altogether, especially with how destroyed his little home is. It's only been a few days yet the floor is caving in? I think the mind is trying to block him out because he tried to tell everyone that Mari was dead at the beginning. All in all I see this game as a child trying to block out his depression brought on by the death of his sister, which would probably be why his house looks so terrifying to him and why the "fake" Mari was horrifying as well.

I believe its because Basil is different from everyone else, he is the only one without dark blue hair (except omori). Something I noticed is that before Basil disappeared, his friends surround him as if his friends revolve around him like he is the center of attention. The only other people who get that "center of attention" treatment is Omori (because he is is the dreamer and the world literally surrounds them), and Mari ( the protagonists sister, and also is very close to everybody). Both Omori and Mari are special, and Basil is special too, since they go dream after dream looking for him, which is evidence to the fact that he is important.

The cat belonged to Mari right? so it makes sense in a way. The daddy long legs character was a funny character, really interesting segment tho. Good ending means the end of dream world.
