@@goodhorsehymn And still the best and most challenging sim of them all. I just reinstalled it and ran some laps at Monza. I then noticed that my Monza PB was set on 28th April 2003......
Hey! I was just watching your report with my girlfriend and I must thank for your appreciations to our work. When you stoped at the beginning of masta straight and focus the bushes on the left side, I have to think about the days it needed to place all 3dos in the right angle ;) and it all comes alive with the incredible textures. Thomas did an extraordinary job with great passion. So all the effort was it all worth. Hatzi
Christian Hatzenbichler I recently downloaded this mod, which I absolutely must have being a huge fan of vintage Grand Prix racing, but it doesn't work. Is there somewhere I can go for a tutorial on how to install and run this beautiful piece of work?
Bravo to everyone involved in this enormous undertaking. It obviously was a true labor of love. It's great to know that GPL just keeps rolling along and that its legacy is in such capable hands. I'm sure I speak for the rest of the original GPL development team when I say, "Thank you!"
We all got to thank all of you, Mr Yasi, for you guys developing this state of art of a Racing Sim. Impressive how ahead of it's time GPL was, 20 years later and still have a one of the bests physics in the Racing Sim world! Thank you, for your outstanding work! It's an honor to adress to one of the creators of this masterpiece!
I remember when it was released and I bought it immediately - it was different to the others also to Grand Prix 2 which was around the same time. If I remember correctly it contains Rouen Les Essarts and I felt in love with that track and I am still in. Amazing sound, still, amazing feel.
This was the most brutal sim I ever played. Really gave me an appreciation for those men with steel balls in the days before modern rubber and downforce
I had a flashback of Grand Prix Legends and after watching a couple of gameplay videos I found yours and I gotta say it was such a great video that I decided to subscribe. Your commentary is excellent and so are your driving skills. I haven't played this game in a very, very long time but it definitely still is one of the best racing games I've ever played and also one the most underrated video games of all time in any genre.
I found Spa67 a few years ago and can't agree more - this track is such a wonderful work of art. It's amazing the kinds of details we can add to tracks now all these years later with the incredible processing power we have now. The fact that the game engine actually scales well to be able to use it is a testament to just how amazing it was for its time.
the effect is miraculous because some are sprites and not 3D obj like in the modern games, the consumption of memory and graphics power is negligible for today's hardware (this detail was already possible 15 years ago with very solid 30 fps with an high end graphics card, i had a radeon 9800pro ).
Years ago I read an article that apparently the original GPL Spa track was slightly wrong at the behest of the local government that didn't want video game racers showing up and racing around the real roads.
That looks absolutely stunning! I've watched real life videos of folks driving around the course that's still open to the public & it still looks very much like it did in Grand Prix, the movie. As in my day when tires were skinny & drivers were fat, as Fangio once said. Glad to see a new one from you.
Awesome work.I live in Belgium and sometimes i drive the old circuit(it's public roads)You can drive from Les Combes till just before Blanchimont. There's a few roundabouts nowadays but it's still impressive.Obviously there are more houses now near the track but the most old ones like in Masta are still there.I also saw the R Factor and Project CARS 2 versions. And watch the movie GRAND PRIX(its on DVD)There you can see the details.I have also the exelent book''The 10.000 Km of Francorchamps and its metamorphoses" written by Jacques UBAGS(written in English and with loads of amazing pics from the old circuit from 1966 till 1975.I did reinstal GPL to drive on this awesome track.
GPL is still my favorite racing simulator. Nothing has come close to capturing car physics quite like this game. The ability to steer the car with your right foot in such a controlled way gives immense satisfaction on legendary circuits such as Spa. Great video, stunning track texture update and the Ferrari sounds simply stunning at full tilt! The day I have a man cave, I will set this game up as a dedicated sim for all to enjoy!!!
This is absolutely jaw-dropping -- imagine a side-by-side of the Papyrus Spa and this one! I remember how hard it was to edit GPL -- it was several years before the first physics mods appeared, if I remember correctly -- and so to produce something of this quality is stupendously impressive. Seeing this has made me want to dig out my old big-boxed copy of GPL. It's been a long, long time since I've driven the sim beyond a couple of quick laps, and I wasn't *that* amazing even back in the day (GPLRank -10 or so at my very best) but the sense of achievement and satisfaction when I got a lap really right has never been matched by anything else. And to think GPL is almost 20 years old now...
i really like your presentation of this track i remember this game it was not easy without a good wheel steering...you really did it well...thank you for sharing
I thought this was one of the new sims when i saw the thumbnail :) You can see soooo much detail. I think its well worth the wait. Ive got GPL but I only picked it up via amazon a few months ago, so havent got any history with it, and when I installed it, it didnt look this good. I assume there are years and years worth of mods to enable GPL to look this good. An older video of yours racing another version of this track was what made me buy GPL :) Could someone point me to a good place to start pimping out my GPL install? Thanks guys. P.S. I always wonder why videos like this and also Empty Boxes videos dont get posted more often on sim news sites!!! Instead we get flooded with POINTLESS boring comparison videos lol. This is real sim racing content right here. Thanks for this video buddy.
Goes simply to Sim Racing Mirror Zone (tape simply SRMZ on google), and you 'll have everything to make GPL what it is today . We are all waiting to help you M Needforspeed
Hi GPLaps, i watched all your Grand Prix Legends videos and i found them great, very entertaining. I played ALOT in the past at GPL, my favourite track was without a doubt Spa Francorchamps, i think i've my personal lap record saved on my old computer!! This new version is astonishing, so much details. For your next video i think you have to try the Bremgarten circuit... a very high speed road circuit with fast long straight through the swiss forest. One of the most dangerous circuit ever.
wow thats awesome. I like historic racing. And the people who are everywhere even in the forest and then the colorful signs. This is so detailed. sry for my bad englisch. greatings from germany.
Are you going to continue the Live Faster series? I really want to see what happens to Lee Roth? This and GPL series are my true favourite. I really like how you weave a story into well just a bunch of cars going round n round in a perpetual left corner;) It's also very refreshing to see you use simulator games(GPL, NR2003) that have largely been overlooked by the mainstream gamers as they still got a lot to offer.
You know what I just thought? As the old Spa-Francorchamps layout is so long and big, one can make an extra two layouts to complement the newer one: a layout that starts at the other half of the Masta Straight and includes Old Stavelot to La Carriere, and a more Monza-like layout that uses Burnenville and Old Malmedy. Naturally, we don't call Hermann Tilke for this job, but I still feel that we might end up with a hairpin at the end of a long straight, and mixing gravel, tarmac, and grass runoff will make for some fisticuffs at the conference room, but hey, if you do manage to snag a copy of the old layout and doodled a layout on the spots I mentioned, drop a line here.
incredible version! Thnx enjoyed the slow lap very much. Btw...looks like youre using my ferrari sound version? Been away a long time with GPL. This Spa is very tempting to get back on the wheel :)
Hi, the beauty about this sim is that it has everything, MP lan, dedicated server, AI, if you want to dumb the AI, open up the driver.ini file and change these values lower for each driver, it's so much more fun trying to pass the cars when they a little slower, mine are:- aggression = 0.900000 ; aggression alertness = 0.900000 ; alertness experience = 0.900000 ; experience hype = 0.900000 ; hype qualifying = 0.900000 ; qualifying quickness = 0.900000 ; quickness smoothness = 0.900000 ; smoothness
Nice video and comments ! Your Ferrari cockpit is also beautiful, but You should check Your sound card settings. The sound has an unnatural echo, maybe because You've activated EAX effects in Your sound card. I made the sound with linear settings without any effects activated in the sound card.
Great sim but such a pain to get it running these days. I got it to work with my wheel and pedals once but then it stopped again. This has inspired me to go back to it. Is such a great game.
This track looks really good. Better than the Spa1967 v2.0 and 70Spa that I've been using in GTR2. They're all based on the GPL version but this one looks the best, not just the layout but the track side objects, trees and everything.
I was at Francorchamps in 1973 and I can tell that this version is VERY accurate in scenery.

Heavily modded, but yes, the game is ancient and beautiful.

After 20 years, it still one of the best drive simulators ever
How do we get it? Does it run on a PC ?
The parallax scrolling for the back grounds is insane on this track
Great demonstration of THE greatest racing sim EVER! (Got to try and find this game again). Good control too with the cold tires and all.
Thanks!
The crowd sounds and the PA speaker sound are a nice touch.
I plan to go GPLing again after 10 years of GTL and rFactor and this report makes it even nicer. Thanks man.

Watch the 1966 film "Grand Prix " with James Garner and there is lots of in car footage from Spa

Theoretically yes, but it'll be no fun. GPL is *the* game for which you need a wheel.
