    Guys you need to see "Opeth( Live in the Roundhouse Tapes 2006)".Recorded after Ghost Reveries was released.Posted by "RE-MASTERPIECES".Probably their best live release most fans would agree.They're in top form,simply awesome to see and hear.If you're not a lifelong fan after this you never will be.👍

      Roundhouse was awesome and captured the spirit of the band during the Ghost Reveries era. Also the last with Martin Lopez and Peter.
      But you simply can’t beat the sound mix at Red Rocks. Absolutely top tier.

    Michael, I'm so glad you've found this amazing band. I've discovered them 20ish years ago and they're by far my all time favorite (not the new stuff tho, basically everything up to and including Watershed). That feeling you get when you first listen to Blackwater Park is indescribable. They are actually the reason I started to play guitar two years ago.

    I'd love to see this with Between the buried and me! Any of there live albums are great, especially The great misdirect, and parallax 2. Very similar to opeth, behind the heavy and ridiculously technical riffs lies the most pure 70s prog you will get in this generation, like king crimson and genesis. Dream theater and tool. Don't sleep on them.

      It very much was! I was there just right of the soundboards. The leather jackets were never planned to be worn during the show but due to the winds/cold they stayed on. During a technical difficulty they had Michael made mention of it and how restrictive playing with the jackets was for everyone.

    Damnation is Opeth's proof of concept, their statement that your music doesn't have to be loud and distorted to be "heavy". The subject matter is what makes the songs heavy. Funnily enough, their album after this was a reaction to the conservatives who dismissed heavy metal as "Satanic". Their response was to say "You want Evil and Satanic? We'll GIVE you Evil and Satanic!". Hence, Ghost Reveries...

    So many comments about the guitar tones.....It's really simple....they don't oversaturate. Also the fact that they are usually playing more complex chords rather than power chords really fills it out and makes it sound heavier. Even on the heavier songs, they do not use excessive amounts of gain which keeps it clean and still sounds massively heavy. Ghost is another band that sounds incredibly clean and full live....again because they don't over do the gain.......both Swedish???? HMMMMM

    Saw them in this last tour and they were really really good, the sound was awesome. The weirdest thing is that Mikael seems to have is growl back, unlike this video or the last few times I saw them before. After 2006/7 (I think), up until recently, his growls were awful.

  • @lonelyguard

  • @blppt
    @blppt ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Yeah, the growls aren't anywheres near as intense as earlier live shows---Mikael is a smoker, and that does a number on your vocal cords.
    For prime Mike growls, watch the Roundhouse or Lamentations videos. Its like night and day.
    Also, Axe is really dragging on several songs here---I think he was affected by the altitude of Red Rocks or maybe the cold, because he absolutely slays "Ghost of Perdition" on the earlier Roundhouse recording. Deliverance here is also really slow at parts, very distractingly so. Not his best night. I mean, unless the rest of the band wanted to play slow.

  • @allenvrabac4827
    @allenvrabac4827 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Lol dissing the mix of Deliverance, which is simply one of the best modern time "clean" metal mix out there. The remaster even more crisp. They stopped doing the death prog metal because Mikael, the main composer, was tired of it and felt that most of what he wrote after Watershed (their last "heavy" record) was shit. He's a 70's prog nut through and through and has gotten in touch with that later on, still maintaining the sound of Opeth. The result is a band that still today sounds like nothing else, or no one sounds like them rather.
