I dont think you should feel bad about buying that cover. I recently bought an A5 5 year and I have been having a heck of time trying to find covers for it. I ended up ordering a custom cover from VDS, which is way more expensive than if I were to purchase that cover from Hobonichi. You want the cover to last five years of daily handling. I think its worth putting a little extra money into a product like that but that's just me. =)
Hello, I got the A6 version ($49 for Hobonichi 5-yaer; $47 for the natural leather) of this from Jenni Bick and I don't know if I would agree with the takeaways. The A5/A6 5-Year Techno are designed for durability, weight, and mobility hence the premium lightweight paper and the waterproof soft cover. Otherwise, people can just buy hardcover Midori/Leuchtturm/Custom Tomoe 5-Year Notebooks. The leather cover is thin enough that it will also lay flat like the notebook when writing and break in super quickly. The thing about equating leather thickness and quality is that I have never even seen leather get worn down beyond the surface level regardless of how thick it is and how used it is (such as on leather jackets' zippers.) I would rather have a thin high quality cover than a heavy and bulky one that I can get anywhere on Etsy.
Great video 👍I'm poor and sad now lol but I enjoyed it anyway. I like that you dont ramble on and on before you get on with the content. I think I'm going to try and get a cheaper alternative. I'm doing a tn for 2021 along with an A5 bullet journal which I've already set up. I do like the idea of the 5 year though so I will be having a look around. Thanks for sharing. New subscriber 😉
Thank you so much!! I definitely try to be concise where I can. For a 5 year alternative, I know midpri has some hard cover books! Theyre good feeling in the hands and less expensive than the hobonichi. The Midori brand ones go for $35 on jet pens! Thank you for being a new subscriber
Hello! I dont have first hand experience with the cousin plus, but for example if I stack my used AVECs and surround them by the 5 year cover, it’s still kinda baggy so Id imagine itd be the same with the cousin size? Sorry if that isnt super helpful!
So far it has! It’s definitely an irrational fear of mine that thinks I will break it. Can confirm multiple years in that the worst wear it has, is a dark spot from where i sat my book down in a coffee mug condensation puddle, which was my own fault. Even then, only a visual change and not a functional change!

@@justusspace great I'll have a look at midori. Thank you!
Weird question but do you think this would fit an a5 full year cousin?
Hi 👋 do you know if the 5 year cover would fit well the cousin plus notebook? Or you think it would be too much extra room??? Thanks!

It will last forever. Japanese high quality leather.

That hobonichi cover is way overpriced, the green Galen leather is stunning .
