Since i see some genuine interest here, i must say that "Cordovan" stands for "from Cordoba" (ancient name, Cordova); the city in Spain. And in english may refer to both the kind of leather or the color that was traditional for that leather to be dyed in. It all comes from the middle age, when Cordova was ruled by arabs and horse breeding started to be a big thing in the whole region (still is) of Al-Andalus (now, Andalucía, southern Spain).
