    I’ve done 3 different brain retraining programs during the past 16 years. They did all illustrate the technical problem well(just using different words for the loop), but since I’m prone to obsessing It kept me stuck all the same, because I got lost in all the technicalities.
    When I found this channel I immediately and instinctively got a lot calmer.
    I’m not out of the woods -yet- but a LOT calmer. I’m not fixing. The hundreds of dollars programs could not do what a few free videos have done for me. I want to thank you Dan for your pro-social work, the warm, frank teaching and true hope you’re giving a number of people stuck in a brain loop.

    A brain retraining program helped me tremendously with the mental and emotion stuff, especially debilitating anxiety. I am still working on a sense of safety to stop the physical symptoms.
    I watch a lot of recovery stories and most say it took multiple approaches.

    For me it’s all about UNlearning old unhelpful patterns that we were operating on for decades and that eventually depleted our whole system .
    So just recognizing these unhealthy patterns/ beliefs /thoughts / behaviors and stop those and replace them with healing ones.
    That and constant calm messages about the crazy symptoms IS brain retraining !!

    The brain is always changing and learning. What brain retraining does is it gives the person the power to do it in a more focus, self directed way. DNRS was the first program that I did and found that its structure was what I really needed at that time. But it was missing some things such as it didn't address my childhood trauma, any parts work, nor does it have a forum that has any leadership or coaching. So the members give one another guidance and advice and I see people give the wrong advice.
    Like any tool, brain retraining can be done well and it can be done in incorrectly.
    I have watched hundreds of your videos and what you teach IS brain retraining, except you use different words. There's also a lot of nuance to this as well such a how trauma affects the body.
    What I do like about you is your simple approach. After working with hundreds of people over the years, I have found keeping it simple goes a long way in helping teach the brain that things are actually okay. And your videos helped during some dark times. Keep doing what you are doing.

    It is crazy how powerful the brain is, and that it can actually create physical symptoms or catastrophize symptoms that have not yet been diagnosed. Every time I think I have mastered the art of controlling my brain when it goes off on a tangent, it comes roaring back to assume the worst and causes me to suffer until the "problem" is discredited or I finally get a grip on reality. These daily videos are so helpful in reminding me that rarely does the worst case scenario become the scenario.

    I agree Dan. It is about giving the brain the truth which is that we are not broken and we are safe… over time with consistency the brain re wires all on its own. I like how you often use the example of learning a new language. We don’t focus on how the brain is wiring that new information we just focus on the actual language. Same concept. @@PainFreeYou I have been in the thick of trauma work…weekly therapy with neurofeedback and EMDR… when I stumbled upon your channel last week. After listening to your videos for a week and seeing a significant decrease already in muscle tension, neck pain, etc - I’m ready to quit the therapy and join your coaching group instead😊. Trying to also be mindful to not make too many changes at once (I also decided to stop chiropractic this week👍🏼).
      Alas, in due time I’m quite eager to join into the weekly PFY group. Trying to believe that my brain may not “need” neurofeedback to correct the (visible!) brain loop, but instead just reassuring myself of all the things I’ve already learned about TMS - and that my body is ok / not broken!

    Dan, I’m going to assume that eating disorders like anorexia or bulimia are TMS. I cured myself 40 years ago from bulimia and related body image thoughts pretty much by your process but on my own and prayer. Eating disorders totally do your head and body in. Of course I am still oriented to being conscious of my weight but pretty much handled it all these years. But now, at 76, I made changes to my diet-carefully and healthfully I thought-, and my weight has ballooned (it feels to me) to the point I feel like a monster is inside me. I’m so freaked out and those old feelings are back. My sleep has deteriorated. The sleep thing started the very night of the day my husband told me he has bladder cancer. This is what will change our lives. I can’t really explain what I’m thinking now but I have a very real and strong urge to quit eating. I’m sure this compulsion is a TMS thing to get my mind off my husband. So I concentrate on weight?During the night I’m on a roller coaster. Day I’m just disgusted how I look and unhappy. I need to get my mind off this.

    • @PainFreeYou
      @PainFreeYou  7 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      TMS is classically defined as symptoms like pain due to perceived danger. What you describe is more of a psychological response to thinking in certain ways. What would happen if you stopped believing the negative things you say to and about yourself and instead began treating yourself with kindness and compassion? I hope you and Dan will excuse me for chipping in. You've had a horrible piece of news
      that has made you frightened and vulnerable, and of course you aren't sleeping well.
      How could you? You must be wondering what the future holds for both of you, and how
      you will manage it. Take TMS out of the equation, and acknowledge that what you're experiencing is a perfectly normal response to a frightening thing. And it's not surprising that you have returned to an old defensive way of treating hurt and fear. You don't say, and don't need to, what caused your problems earlier in life, but you had them because they seemed like a way of being in control when you didn't feel you had any. Those feelings must be back right now. See the feelings you're having for what they are, be kind to yourself as Dan says. Making yourself unwell won't help either you or your husband go forward in a way that is going to help and support you. Talk to your PCP if you need to. And remember you've already won a battle. You can win another one.
      With love. xx

I have the best results just sitting in nature and letting it all go and with the new energy (fatique) i do what i want to do in life the best i can now. This way my brain knows im safe and you could call that brain training but im doing nothing actually. Ofc sometimes it takes effort to stop the mind from negative patterns but.

I mess up daily by freaking out. I’m in a weird place. Im tired of being uncomfortable. Uncomfortableness that I created after my mom died last year and being codependent on her. I always feel like crying and or screaming. But I don’t think im dying. Consistent messages of security. For the last few months I’ve been saying I’m ok. And I’m safe. What do we do after creating more pain from freaking out and panic attacks. I wake up screaming in pain.

    Because the brain is like a computer hard drive, when it’s fragmented with too much scattered files of information across, it’s making it harder to find information we need..and causing it to run more slow while computer is attempting to write more and more commands. So let it process itself one step at a time, than being more impatient to execute the task we need “right now”.. as it can only cause friction. Defragmentation, or rest and digest is key.

    • @kateking3953
      @kateking3953 6 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      No, the brain isn't like a computer hard drive. It doesn't get 'full up' or overloaded with information. Under stress we may feel overwhelmed by our thoughts or sensations, or succumb to fear/flight/freeze, but that isnt because the brain is overloaded. A brain is capable of creating as many synapses and neural pathways as it needs at any given time. Every experience you ever had, every memory of your life is retained in your brain. This is how we remember past events, faces, songs, the plots of films or books, languages other than our own. Neurologists and neurophysicists still have no real idea of the role of the brain in identity and consciousness. But it's becoming increasingly clear that the gut has a role in brain function, and cell mitochondria are influenced by brain function. I worked in neurology, and it's a fascinating field. We still know less than we know. We can point to what happens but not why or how. I think Dan's system is as effective as anything else.

    • @allthetopbananas4232
      @allthetopbananas4232 6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@kateking3953 I agree with you. Computer hard drive is just a simple analogy of a particular aspect of the brain, when it comes to dealing with stress related anxiety of the unknown causes of symptoms in the body.
      When we are filled with scattered information in our head, especially to do with fears, illnesses, death, and what’s going to happen .. and or how we can avoid any disaster, we always tend to know the answer- for our survival.
      In such a case, our brain always analyses/ evaluates (computing) every detail on every bit of information, as to why, where, what and how, before it can make a decision to give the precise answer. It can take days or even years and decades by examining, doing any research and application to finally get the conclusions.
      Computer is the same in that regard, although, in such a short term .. especially when someone using different softwares altogether at the same time, to execute a particular project. However, when the computer memory is overloaded, and fragmented with bunch of unnecessary data, it can slow down its performance .. but the guy sitting behind still keeps punching the keyboard with frustration just to get the answer he needs immediately, it doesn’t work, causing the computer to shut.
      Having a good rest, and regular sleeping pattern is the key to it. As when you’re sleeping, is the time when your brain is replenishing energy and eliminating toxins that caused all the stress.

    I think it just depends. It depends on how deep and intense the symptoms are. And things like DNRS are helpful for people to a point (the daily 1 hour commitment) and then they can transition into more living life and general messages of safety. But those programs are mainly talking your limbic brain down and then visualizing the life you want which produces the feel good chemicals. Tons of overlap, just depends if a system is helpful for people
