- Throughout the ancient world, people made covenants which bound them in responsibility to each other. We still make covenants every day, both big and small. God, too, makes covenants. In this video, Prof. Wright examines some of the key covenants God made with the people of Israel, and how these came to be fulfilled and renewed in the lives of Jesus’s followers.
Reading the Images is a weekly series of videos from N.T. Wright Online which explores the common images that run throughout the Biblical narrative.

I've been reading Wright for 20 years now, and I must say, it saddens me to see him physically aging. We all are (I know), but may we all ponder and appreciate the fact that we're living in the same timeline as a theological genius.
Thank you for your words, William. We're grateful that Professor Wright keeps sharing what God has given him. We're also grateful for our supporters who make these teachings so widely accessible.

It’s truly crazy, the way we treat animals. 😢
If God interacts with human beings through redeeming covenants, then it means that his faithfulness and compassion is immense, and that we are incapable of being happy on our own.
Wow. That is a great exposition of Covenant theology. Thanks doc. Wright for remind us to keep looking to the Work of God through history. I am wondering how much this retrospect looking of God's faithfulness Work has been part of the church life. Has not the church too worry about the future events instead of living out the Work that Jesus has already done?
You touch on some excellent points, thanks for sharing your thoughts!

Would be great if it all wasnt mythology. Paul's idea of Covenant is very different than the Covenant made with Israel. Blood is very prominent in the Old but not drinking blood. No Jew would ever submit to that.
The New Covenant was only promised to the house of Israel and the house of Judah (Jeremiah 31.31ff).
Israel & Judah?? Then Jesus came in vain.
Great example of how to absolutely mangle Biblical prophecy 👌
This is a powerful point, but I'm sorry to say that you are misapplying it, brother, if you mean it is only for physical Jews and a physical nation.
Yes, the prophecy says it is for Israel, yet Jesus quoted this at his Last Supper, the Eucharist/communion service. All Christians everywhere participate in this service, for Jesus' apostles taught gentiles, like Paul in 1 Corinthians 11, that we are included.
Therefore, as NTW teaches elsewhere, all believers in Christ are part of the Israel - we are all spiritual seed of Israel.
@@christianfrommuslim Only Israelites were present at the last supper. If Paul preached the New Covenant gospel to non-Israelites, how was he justified in doing so based on the Hebrew Scriptures?
@@sherrywebber4013 In regards to the New Covenant He didn’t come in vain - not in vain for Israel and Judah.
