In 2020, 23 July My dear Dad died in the sleep - tromb in lungs arteria, he be only 60 years old... When I listen this Song, I'm cry, cry so much, unstoppable... I'm Fan of Animal Collective, I'm from Russia, Moscow district. Big Thanks from my Heart, for Your Great Music, Love So Much !!!
Noah said this about his dad in an interview, "He was a surgeon, but in 2002 he got brain cancer and died. My first solo record, Young Prayer, was all about him. He was the biggest influence on my life and his death still affects me now." Thirteen years later we get this from Noah and Dave. It's like Animal Collective re-shot the last scene of the 1982 movie "White Dog." But instead of the dog representing racism, the dog in the video represents cancer. It's owner, Death, let's the dog loose and it literally tears the panda family apart. But the heartbreaking event is depicted in a beautiful, serene manner. The parade is over but I don't think there could be a better eulogy for Noah's dad than this song and video. It's easy to be bitter about losing a family member to cancer. In a weird way, listening to the lyrics of this song and watching the video has brought me a little more peace.
Eye didn't know this about him. Met them ALL at a merch table we shared for a show in Berkley,Ca before SUng tongs. My father was also in the same vain as he for inspiration. Soul blown. 1st time hearing THIS. -BIZZART
As someone who heard and liked this song a coupld of years ago, and then just found out a family member has a very serious cancer with short prognosis - I can attest that it makes it 200x more powerful and gut wrenching in that instance
Joseph Reising lost my brother to cancer 3 years ago he was 28. He was also a cancer, Sebastian his name is. Like the crab it’s so poetic this song for me.
As someone who heard and liked this song just now and then just found out a family member has a very serious furry fetish with short prognosis - I can... No, I can't, it's too much, I can't handle this any more.
As for you Joseph, I’m sorry you got memed on, but I had the same experience in 2019. Grandma got cancer a few months after I started listening to this song and died a few months later
It's all in the family And then you sneak it all away When they said he's ill Laughed it off as if it's no big deal What a joke to joke, no joke It's all in the family And then you sneak it all away Sick has to eat well too And you dumb it down [Refrain] And you can't get back You won't come back You can't come back to it And you won't come back You can't come back You won't come back to it And you won't come back You can't come back You won't come back to it And you won't come back You can't come back You won't come back to it Its all in the family And then you sneak it all away Sick has to eat well too Got to like it all Got to like what kills It kills just to know what kills Got to like it all So it goes to show what all things know Just one thing keep it live Keep it live, dead or alive These guys kill to live on And you give up on the upside Give it up on the other side [Refrain] And you can't get back You won't come back You can't come back to it And you won't come back You can't come back You won't come back to it And you won't come back You can't come back You won't come back to it And you won't come back You can't come back You won't come back to it
I could not stop weeping after watching this. This song, these lyrics, this video, hit me on every visceral level, as someone who has taken care of a parent that lost to cancer....Thank you, Panda Bear!! This is beautifully sad and true.
NoJoshinJoshy I love when a good artist finds the most incredibly simple way to express a million different emotions. It's just simplicity at its finest. One simple sentence puts anyone who hears it into the exact mental state that Panda must have been in when this all happened in his life.
His songs put me deep into difficult emotions, but somehow help me see them from a different, brighter perspective. Animal Collective is really something special
This song hold so much deep deep emotion for me. I use this song for my overwhelming autism moments now. The beauty through death shown here is amazing.
So how come the thumbnail is that of a crab(cancer star sign)? I thought it had something to do with the star sign and its difficulty with letting go of the past, so he made this video for himself to forget some things, and then shared it with us.
My absolute FAVORITE off this album. It's so serene , and beautiful! I have been a huge fan ever since young prayer. I think his best album was person pitch for sure! Ok, I'll stop being a ranting fan girl, I just love me some Panda Bear!
This song always reminds me of my grandfather, who passed away from acute onset leukemia in 2001. He was my hero, he was my dad when my dad wasn't ready to be a grown-up. I miss him every day.
This was the first Panda Bear song I had ever listened to. From beginning to end, this song was painting the most beautiful images in my mind through my synesthesia, while I took in the dark lyrics and melancholy tone of the song overall. Then, I come to discover this music video, I'm absolutely taken aback by how close my mental interpretation resembled the visuals in the actual music video. The actual implications of the music video itself are heartbreaking, from the information surrounding this song to the video itself.
In 2020, 23 July My dear Dad died in the sleep - tromb in lungs arteria, he be only 60 years old... When I listen this Song, I'm cry, cry so much, unstoppable... Forgive me, Daddy...
Sebastian White actually it's inspired by that personal moment but the album is supposed to be way less personal so this song is about how disease is trying to survive the same way people are and it's a fair war.
I click on these Panda Bear vids expecting something totally weird, and then I find myself shocked at just how weird they are. I gotta say the visuals are nowhere near as emotional or personal as the song though.
Dom's Sketch Cast They're a bit colourful for the sad song... but I'm guessing the dog tearing apart the papa panda is a pretty straightforward symbol of the death in the family that Panda Bear is singing about
The video is done by Avey and I imagine has incredibly personal imagery that only close members of the family would know. Some more obvious things is that this song is empathizing with the illness that killed his father. Each one of the characters is in a panda bear outfit. There are two children. Matt Lennox and Noah Lennox. It's symbolic of their family. The father knows he will not outlive the disease and he embraces death. The enigmatic character whose tool is cancer, the dog. When we see the dog tearing apart the father. It is symbolic of the cancer that ravaged Noah's father.
***** Matt isn't Noah's only sibling, he has a sister too so I doubt the pandas are meant to represent each and every member of his family individually even though I think that's the general idea of it
I had a younger brother die of cancer when he was 11 and this song to this day still gives me the same kinds of emotoons icdid upon inital listen.. still makes me cry a little and im a pretty stoic dude about the whole subject. What a powerful piece of art that was created. To all those who have suffered a loss of any kind due to cancer, my heart goes out to you
What completely fucking under appreciated Noah is as a song writer my god… I guess it’s to introspective for people honestly… 💙 All of the collectives songs are like portals to my adolescence, an amazing time of beauty and chaos, when magic was everywhere lurking in the eyes of the friends that surrounded me, a whirl wind of poets and dreamers, musicians artists and vagabonds, we were it! What happened?
Gracias Panda...
I think I can tell right away that the flag the bears are holding is Bjorn Copland art. It has his manipulations of the letters and his style. Really good song also
My stoned interpretation: this is about a family issue of the musician. "it's all in the family" then the falling zither in the scene represents how it's the musician who is dealing with the issue depicted; as the zither enters into the video, so does the musician enter into the situation. and finally something about how the guys who do K9 bite training have families too, or sumthin. maybe someone in the musician's family worked in law enforcement. thank you for coming to my stoned TED talk. Shpongle.
I absolutely absolutely this song but I loved it so much more when they place it at the end of the "Smoke"off the air video. its at the very end of the video and has a different music video to go with it. it goes absolutely perfectly and more powerful than this by a long shot actually.
It's all in the family And then you sneak it all away When they said he's ill Laughed it off as if it's no big deal What a joke to joke, no joke It's all in the family And then you sneak it all away Sick has to eat well too And you dumb it down [Refrain] And you can't get back You won't come back You can't come back to it And you won't come back You can't come back You won't come back to it And you won't come back You can't come back You won't come back to it And you won't come back Its all in the family And then you sneak it all away Sick has to eat well too Got to like it all Got to like what kills It kills just to know what kills Got to like it all So it goes to show what all things know Just one thing keep it live Keep it live, dead or alive These guys kill to live on And you give up on the upside Give it up on the other side [Refrain] And you can't get back You won't come back You can't come back to it And you won't come back You can't come back You won't come back to it And you won't come back You can't come back You won't come back to it And you won't come back You can't come back You won't come back to it

+AJ Southpaw (Mister Scripflip) funny you should say that, i read an interview with him once where he said how jealous he was of noah after person pitch came out, like he wished he could make music that good

Stephen Williams wow man, thanks for that comment. Really beautiful
Stephen Williams Thank you so much for that brother.
I get this. My mother died of cancer. This song always resonated with me very deeply and now the video is special too.
So good.....
So beautiful and tragic, so much pain and beauty... 💔
Panda's father has affected his entire career. So many great songs have been inspired by the tragedy of his passing.

Tchaikovsky & The Wizard of Oz. Book it.

The Nutcracker

SpOoOokyGhost I was completely confused by the video until the dog brought the daddy bear to the ground and then I was like "awwww" :(

This is so very moving to me. You can't come back... so much suffering in this life and we can cry because sometimes it is feeling time, feeling time.

I feel like this fits right in with the soundtrack to Wes Anderson's film The Life Aquatic
That would be insane. I love the fit of "The Zombies - The way I feel inside" during the helicopter-crash scene. My favorite Director
One of the most beautiful melodies i've heard in a very long time. I commend you Panda Bear, continue with your genius.
this is in the expanded version of beach boys pet sounds

Why doesn't this have at least a million likes? It's the saddest song to ever exist
Love the song, but the message fused with a perfect directing in this video alone brings so much more to it. Truly one of the best music videos ever.

there's something Scott Walker-ish about this song.
very nice

this really does feel like a sound that was swimming at the bottom of Brian Wilson's deepest dreams.
this is like the music to a dmt trip sooo beautiful
the music creeps me out when its like you cant come back.
indeed it's the weird part to me too. but I've nothing to say about it, imo it's made on purpose.
