Another truth bomb from our Pea. The skin tone thing is also true in Thailand. My first Thai wife was from the NW where the woman tend to have lighter skin. Our first son was born in Bangkok. The nurses had never seen a blue eyed baby before, and being Eurasian he had lighter skin. They gave him much more attention than the full blood Thai babies. (By 6 weeks of age the dominant Brown genes had taken over, and his eyes were typical Asian brown.)
My Pinay wife was from a small village where no Americans had ever ventured. Her family status was instantly raised do to having a White man joining the family. Silly, I know, but it's just the way it is.

When I was in the philippines, I was amazed by how many ads there were on TV, Billboards and radio for skin whiting products! I asked my filipina coworkers at the company I worked for why all the ads for these products, they said, in the filipino culture that white skin is more attractive. I said well most of us Western men LOVE tan skin.

With much respect to Pea, hundreds of years of oftentimes brutal and savage white European and white American domination has produced this mentality. The association of dark skin with "field work" is a mere, coincidental off-shoot of the rationale for this mentality. It's not much different than than attitudes of subjugated peoples in the Americas, Africa, or the rest of Asia.

So True I saw the same thing in Thailand that their were products for lightening your skin and at the time I was there 2007 & 2008 I asked a Thai woman why that was because they don’t sell those products in America and she said the exact same thing that the lighter the skin you get the higher paying jobs or that they consider you to be more attractive. And I was like but don’t you know in Thailand 🇹🇭 Like the Philippines 🇵🇭 because this is a hot climate with sun beating down the majority of days you are more likely to get skin cancer ? They didn’t have an answer after that in 15-20 years watch and see the % of skin cancer rise in both countries.

It's the same all across Asia, its just simple marketing for makeup companies. In the West you are told its healthy to be tanned in Asia it's in Vogue to be white. It's shameless marketing, my wife gets annoyed about her skin color all the time, her tone is beautiful to me.

I hope I'm not being crass, but she wears that outfit in these scenes that show her "figure" better. So many times I feel she hides her breasts. I hope it's not because she's ashamed at the size. She may be surprised at how many men prefer her size. You know the saying: "More than a handful is wasteful." 🥰

This is what my wife says:
"When I was young I was bullied by many people because I am morena and big and have a dark complexion. They told me I will never find love or a husband. It made me feel shy and uncomfortable, i wanted to hide and be invisible. When I met my husband he always said I am beautiful and he likes my complexion - which I could not belief. One time we ate chocolate at the 7/11 and he compared a piece of chocolate with my skin. He said from now on I will call you CHOCO because you are sweet as chocolate and look like it. Today I am very proud to be morena and I would NEVER trade against white skin."
Update 21.04.2024 Today she sent me a video showing her rehersal in the Siddhartha Musical Theater in Cebu. When she was younger she could never imagine in her keenest dreams she ever would be on a stage. Choco you make me so proud.🥰

Now married & living here in the Philippines, I learned why - It’s exactly as you explained it.
I have to wear a long sleeve shirts while riding my bike, the Filipinas are amused when I tell them that I am jealous of their darker skin, because my white skin burns quickly. I tell them my skin was designed for Ireland where my ancestors are from, but here I am a fish out of water.😊

This is a different country. They don't have the same local issues with racism we have, they have different demographics and different history. There's literally a restaurant chain there called KKK. But it has nothing to do with our acronym in the US, nor do most Filipnos even think (and some don't even know) about it's meaning in the US. It means something else. It's a different culture. They love the west in their popular culture but still have their own with their own history/terms/acronyms.
The west is more concerned with raciscm particularly in recent times (although ironically the younger generation that goes to the fancier western influenced educated schools there adopt some of western culture/values which imo is not always good, I prefer the more down to earth locals although easier to communicate with the western educated Ateneo/LaSalle types since my Tagalog is limited. That's another thing on another tangent, how they treat look up or down at other fellow locals by how well they speak English). Although one can argue there is some against foreigners sometimes (charging higher prices if they believe you are foreigner for example). I recall in one of the touristy provinces for a boating trip there was literally a sign that said "Local price" and "Foreigner price." That'd be illegal in most countries in the west. Even if it is usually not listed via sign foreingers will be charged more in many situations. Have your date/gf/wife do a lot of shopping and bargaining instead. I don't get too hung up on it, it is what it is.

The term red neck in the US originated over 100 years ago because a red neck comes from a white person doing manual labor in the sun. The status of an ordinary hard working person who does not have “wealth”. I agree with you and I love how you are not PC but just an honest person. That is totally respectable. Thank you

    • @robertromines3115
      @robertromines3115 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

Wrong. The term red neck comes from Scottish immigrants belonging to an outed military group that identified themselves by a red hankerchief worn around their neck. They settled in rural areas and took up farming. The rich folk misunderstood the connection between farmers and Scottish farmers and labeled all rural farmers as red necks. FYI I am a redneck by both definitions 😅

I so appreciate this video Pea because I was just discussing this with a Filipino friend who is constantly trying to whiten her skin. Being "colonized" taught this mindset. S.E.Asia (except Thailand 🇹🇭) were all invaded by European countries. Thailand escaped colonization but it was a military vacation spot. The citizens of these countries were exploited. Thus, it seems to have created a "Stockholm Syndrome" mindset that still exists today. Bleaching cream is sold throughout the region. When you look at their TV and see their billboards you would think that these countries had no tan or brown citizens. I see this in Thailand, Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam. Now I just learned it's the same in the Philippines. 😮

When I first met my Filipina wife, she was living in the U K. I was there to meet her in person from the US . She was telling me about her whitening lotion her sister had sent her. I looked at it and started laughing and she looked like she was going to cry! I explained to her how it worked, it didn’t make your skin “lighter” it kept you from getting a sun tan! The main ingredient was SPF40!
I still, after 12 years tell her she has the most beautiful skin I’ve ever seen, almost every woman in America would kill for your skin tone! She told me that almost all Filipinas would gladly trade them! I understand, but I can’t (still) believe it. I love you videos Pea. I was lucky, the way I found my wife, if you are ever interested in the story feel free to message me. But it was (in my opinion) Devine intervention.

Pea! I would have never guessed that you are off the calendar! 😉 My wife is Filipina, so when I saw your thumbnail I knew exactly what you would be talking about. She does not try to lighten her skin, but she does go to great lengths to prevent being exposed to the sun because she does not want to get darker. I have told her that American men like darker skin because it is exotic, but she tells me that in the Ph it means you are poor because you most likely have to work outside doing manual labor. I have gotten used to her hiding herself from the sun, and not understanding that what she is trying to prevent is beautiful. I will love her no matter what her skin tone is.

    • @klabkebash
      @klabkebash 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Same here. My wife is Thai and is dark skinned and had the same issues growing up. Always covering up in the sun because of how society, mainly Thai Chinese people spread the narrative that lighter skin is better and shows coming from a better class that didn't have to do manual labor etc. Like most Americans, I find attractiveness in her darker skin tone, not just because she's dark but because it's who she is. Then when our kids were born, she was happy they turned out light skinned like me, their father. Then complains that people think she's not their mother but the nanny 🙄.. It's it's not being too dark is the problem then being too light is the problem. 😁

Interesting... I didn't put much thought into the skin-tone subject, so it's a helpful perspective as to the reasoning behind it; status/wealth/appearance isn't something I grew up caring about as a westerner that grew up in first-world-poverty, so I can see why it can be mis-translated as 'racist' at first-glance. I started dating a Filipina a few months ago, and she seems obsessed with light skin, but I figured there's probably more depth to it, as she doesn't give me the impression that it has anything to do with some prejudice with/against race. Thanks for the insight! your videos have been helping me a lot since I tuned in a month ago.

I get what you are saying about skin color. Colorism is an ugly part of the African American community. As a very dark skinned African American, I experienced some of the rudest/racist behavior in the Philippines. I spent 20 years in the military and have lived in many different countries. I have never been treated anywhere the way I was treated in the Philippines. I had a group of school children near my condo (Soltana Nature Residences) in Lapu, Lapu, yell out the “N” word repeatedly at me. People working at the mall in stores where I was spending money would make all kinds of disrespectful gestures. It happened so often that I didn’t want to go anywhere with my wife and her family. Everyone’s experience is different, but for me, it was a totally unpleasant situation.

If you're a Filipina trying to attract a western white guy...take my advice and keep your natural darker skin intact. My Filipina wife looks amazing with a tan!

I lived 5 years with the devil's cousin (my evil ex) and one time our son when he was 7 said, "Dad do you know mom is black?". I knew she was evil but never noticed that she was darker than me. She is Bolivian aboriginal and on many days her skin is as darker than Filipina Pea's legs and on other days she is as white as Filipina Pea. During the old Canadian winters, I was as white as a Scandinavian and when I worked in construction I was darker than a Middle Eastern. to be honest I love tanned women but love black girls as well and I am crazy about white. In bed, I had no preferences. my preferences for Filipinas have more to do with them being kinder,,,,
My preference is a Godly woman, if a woman is the most beautiful but does not know God then she is not my type.
Since a very young age I was seeking women because I felt that was where love was. during my childhood, I believed I was ugly because that was what I heard from home...So I went on a rampage of hunting sex............ in Canada we have all nations living in the same city therefore I likely dated women from every nation however I found God and I do not date however what God leads to is who I will marry.
But I have to admit that all Philipinas that I dated lived in Canada and the only one I was engaged to was from Leyte and before the wedding in Cebu Mövenpick Hotel Mactan Island Cebu Philippines., I also canceled all the bedroom rentals for the entire family all as she was a professional certified gold digger.
so my dear Filipina Pea, if you are lighter or darker down there you will be pink, and to me if your heart is not washed by the blood of the Lamb it will not have any value.
The Lamb is Yahshua Ha'Mashiach was the Sacrificial Lamb for the atonement of our sins yes Jesus Christ's blood has to be in the doorposts of your heart.
Believe and Trust and you will see Miracles.
Don’t wait for a Miracle for you to believe because you will never see one.
    Giving is loving
True Ahava, true love, is more concerned with giving than receiving.
Being the center of someone's attention isn't love. And love isn't about getting some feeling or fix.
Ahava(love) is about giving devotion and time.
Giving is the vehicle of love. Yahweh so loved the world that He GAVE His only Son.
Meaningful relationships have mutual giving. Love may focus on receiving, but Ahava is all about giving.
THE 4 TYPES OF LOVE TRANSLITERATED TO GREEK found in the Bible
In English, the word love is overrated, overused it, and often used in vain without proper meaning or worse without feelings attached to the word LOVE.
Storge - empathy bond. Family love
Philia - friend bond. brotherhood love
Eros - romantic love. sexual love,
Agape - unconditional "Elohim's" love Love from above

Hey Pea, may this comment find you and yours blessed. I hate to tell you this but this debate about "lightness" has been done in America a 100 years ago. My late mother-in-law experienced the middle point of the lightness debate. She was tall, considered extremely well-built physically and highly intelligent. So, even though she was a farmer's daughter--working outside most of the time-her other attributes weighed the scales in her favor.
Even today African Americans try to choose a lighter skinned partner. Filipinas are very open as "breeding" stock. I have studied ethnology (the study of races) and when you interview young women for different segments, I can see ever Asian race across the continent, and even Caucasians (that is Filipinas who could pass for white). I have seen mixes between Westerners and Filipinas that are incredible. The mother may be 4'9" and her daughter might turn out to be 5'7" and the original "Filipino look' can be completely lost and the daughter may look entirely Western.
In the West, especially America/Canada we have the inverse of the PH. We favor darker mates, because if they have the time to become tanned it's a sign of higher financial status. Bravo Pea, you have brought up a very interesting topic.
