Cheers! As for the mic, that's actually just a Zoom H1 suspended inside a large bird feeder using silicone strips, with a furry cover over it. I have a similar build coming up, where I explain in detail how to make a double shock-mounted stereo mic with wind protection, which should be completed soon (I have loads of videos coming up).
Hats off you to not only for making a super easy kite, great one to build with the kids... But mainly for making that video in the wind, rain and low flying aircraft!!!! Great work..
Sterling Blair That "furry" thing is the microphone. That muffler doesn't allow the wind to blow into microphone membrane very hard. As the result you get a nice sound quality.
He is making a Scott's sled. He forgot to cut in the triangle between the 2 sticks. It's an easy kite to make, and a ball to fly. My dad and I made them about 47 years ago. A nother good and easy kite to make is called an Eddy kite, it needs no tail... Look them both up to learn more...... Have fun flying!!! PS. I am 59 and still fly kites.....
The beauty of nature brings me back to my childhood when things were great and we didn't even know it I love your kite and your creativity God bless you
Maybe it has been posted already, but this kite flies even better when it gets 2 squared holes side by side towards the bottom. It gains altitude much easier with these and needs less windy conditions. Well done!
Hey! You are my favorite TH-camr because your videos are awesome!! The sound and video quality is extremly nice and i love to watch every video you uploaded! I am sad, that there is only you and some americans making good "diy videos" because in Germany there is just one guy making good diy videos! And i love to hear your voice and this british english you speak:D Greets from Germany!
Full marks for making the kite on site & of course with the vagaries of wind & rain! Great channel I just discovered through you recycling defunct laptops. Kudos.
Thank you for creating the video. I am considering making this a Homework Project for my student. Should be fun and much more engaging than a worksheet. Greetings from southern California
oh boy. This is a pretty curious kite. We made these in soft paper and bamboo sticks as well. But there's also a tail. Greetings from Brazil. (love your videos)
Just for some feed back I made the kit and I preferred to have two strings one for each side of the kit for more control. Love the vid keep up the good work
Been subscribed for a couple years. Love your projects and video production. Recently fell in love with kiting. Pleasant surprise to find this older video of yours.
This would come in handy if one where to be stuck in a mountain or lost there way and needed to call for help. Simply write HELP! on the back of the kite and fly it at a near open area.
Nice ...... may be the way to go ...... make the kite on a still day ........ fly it on a windy day ....... may take more time ! Like the idea of these anarchist kites flying over Yorkshire . Shame weed control cloth only comes in black ...... may be building membrane would work well also .
nice im sure it works well i have made similar kites from plastic, but will have to try the 2 strings to keep it from diving. i have attached a tail to each spar for stability, and it works ok.
Thanks for sharing your talent. How did you get the sound so clear and crisp without the wind drowning you out? Were you simply downwind or did you have a remote mic? Thanks
I'm really enjoying your series of videos! The lighting and audio ones in particular! Have you ever heard of making a kite just from newspaper and a some sellotape? I did a few years back and was. Very surprised by the results!
m8 i really like your accent!(I'm irish so i know) it's really clear and soft .... also is there a video of the mic you made? i would really like to see that...
i was made kites as young as 9... I never cut the fabric till the doweling was in place.. otherwise very similar. also I used plastic rubbish bags not fabric.
If you leave the bamboo in, the arm which delivers the staples wont be able to reach all the way over to staple the fabric on the other side. Imagine putting a stick on the inside of a door hinge, it wont close properly.
🕋-Meanwhile as he.s making a kite-🕋 >🐢 i took 10 doggy pooh plastic bags from a park dispenser tied some string -1st open all bags and the wind took it up Like a Centipede kite []=[]=[]=[]=[]=[]=[]--------------- wee i got some looks from kids & older folks a smile here there 👦👉🤪🙋♀️📣 toot
Cheers!

Wind, rain, and airplanes overhead - you were a trooper for going through with all this -thanks for posting!
How to Make a Kite in -5 Minutes- 2 minutes *if you avoid doing it outside* :)
hahaha good one
I live in the East Riding of Yorkshire, and the beach is at a little town on the coast. It was a beautiful day, which made it look better than usual.
Hats off you to not only for making a super easy kite, great one to build with the kids... But mainly for making that video in the wind, rain and low flying aircraft!!!! Great work..
I do indeed. How on earth you came across both is amazing - they're totally unrelated channels that have no link between them.
amazing sound for that much wind
Sterling Blair That "furry" thing is the microphone. That muffler doesn't allow the wind to blow into microphone membrane very hard. As the result you get a nice sound quality.
I'm too busy watching blue parachute like kite flying randomly in the background :)
Glider like. Parachutes are simpler.
Haha! I was too! I have adhd …seriously!

Great to know my videos are watched in Brazil. Glad you like them!

I didn't even wanna make a kite. This was just enjoyable to watch =D
What British beach has water like that??
Awesome video and an easy project in terms of materials and time! Gonna make it with a bunch of teenagers today. Thank you!

***** Guten Morgen tom.
The only how to build a kite video I have seen where the kite is shown to fly. Needless to say this actually makes me want to try out. Good job.
At 4:50, i strangely felt raindrops on my skin o.O
Bro watching this in 2022 looking at how colorful world used to be lifes changed. No one knew covid was coming
Full marks for making the kite on site & of course with the vagaries of wind & rain! Great channel I just discovered through you recycling defunct laptops. Kudos.
interesting that you decided to make the kite with all the wind blowing against you. But good start would like to see more kite ideas in colors.
Thank you for creating the video. I am considering making this a Homework Project for my student. Should be fun and much more engaging than a worksheet. Greetings from southern California

That seaside looks like a postcard!
Northern England :)
I had to make a kite for my school homework... works perfectly!
Thanks so much!😄
Of course! :)
Just for some feed back I made the kit and I preferred to have two strings one for each side of the kit for more control. Love the vid keep up the good work
***** Did having two strings allow you to change its direction, like a stunt kite?
lol i guess you could say that it was more for when the kit starts to dive i can save it
Been subscribed for a couple years. Love your projects and video production. Recently fell in love with kiting. Pleasant surprise to find this older video of yours.
Finally I found a DIY perks project that matches my skill level 🤣
The kite business dislikes this video.
I would love to see you build a DIY mini ac using a Thermoelectric Peltier
Awesome place to make the video, wind, sea, grass, people laughing in background, aeroplane flying overhead.
easy and simple.... now i need to make 3, for my kids and ofc me. ty for the vid.
Why not make the kite indoors so you don't have to deal with the wind, then take it to the beach for a go???
jamesbtex Doing it on location makes for a much more interesting video, don't you think? :)
+DIY Perks Even more so had you been shirtless! :-)
+Bill Castello hehe, nothing like a little honesty ;)

In Serbia, we just tie a plastic bag to a fishing line, and with a nice fishing knot, because the bag is very good at imitating a professional kite.
you should try to make one in the wild with sticks and a t shirt. it might help in a rescue situation.
You know, as I kid..4year old once tried to dö a kite by herself. She failed miserably. I might give it another try 😊
nice im sure it works well i have made similar kites from plastic, but will have to try the 2 strings to keep it from diving. i have attached a tail to each spar for stability, and it works ok.
this is the early video of yours..and this is the beginning of your success channel in making more amazing videos.. untill now..!
Thanks for sharing your talent. How did you get the sound so clear and crisp without the wind drowning you out? Were you simply downwind or did you have a remote mic? Thanks
irvingcm58 You can see the mic on the right side of the screen at some points in the video ;)
Okay Thanks. I was wondering if that might be it. What's the make and model? I'm a novice trying to learn. Thanks
irvingcm58 I made it myself. It's basically just a cardioid mic in a bird cage wrapped in furry fabric.
That's very cunning! Thanks Bro. TH-cam at it's best!
Wow u look so cute at a young age❤
positive comment here....extremely nice place there
I'm really enjoying your series of videos!
When I was a child, I made a kite, but it was very hard to do :)
Can you please tell me if that place is in the uk and if yes where?
Excellent channel. Always short and to the point.
That was a fantastic location, btw.
i was made kites as young as 9... I never cut the fabric till the doweling was in place.. otherwise very similar. also I used plastic rubbish bags not fabric.
Haha great video you were a pro working in the wind 😁👍
Get a plastic bag and tie the holding parts together with a rope. Ta-da kite!
👍👍
Thmyris hahaha lol
what part of England do you live in? That looks like a beautiful beach, where is it?
Fair play t'ya! From a not very patient person. How could you work with so much wind! Amazing!!
And rain too! Oh my!!
why don't you staple over the bamboo instead of putting it in, taking it out stapling then putting it back in? i dont get it xD
If you leave the bamboo in, the arm which delivers the staples wont be able to reach all the way over to staple the fabric on the other side. Imagine putting a stick on the inside of a door hinge, it wont close properly.
I can also sew the seams, yes?
omg awesome background where did you record that video
Thank you this really helped with a school project I had for air and flight. Thanks :)
great example of british weather there ;)
newspaper works good and cheap. what i did when i was a kid.
SDU-Tango I used it with plastic shopping bags :D
When I was a kid, newspaper was all around. Sure the trash bag would be more durable and cleaner.
Was that a UFO captured in the background?
I guess some dirt on your screen
if you make 2 holes on the bottom it fly more steady
What camera did you use to record this ? The video quality is awesome.
arosha kaluarachchi Panasonic GH2! Needs some serious colour correction in post, but once done the image really shines.
This is just lovely.
I want to pet your deadcat. It's cute.
i love it !!! thank you for this video. you sound just like me !! it wants to fly , so it did !!!!!
Cool! That really flys good!
It has been quit long time ago, jajajaja it is noticable the nobel stage of your videos
Can I use a crepe paper??
Great video. Greetings from Chile.
During making, wind blows, when finished, it stops! 😊😊😊
Woow ur kite is so good, my kite looks like microphone on the right
:D
You look like you're used to working in the wind! xD :)
where do you live? it looks so nice!
Reminds me of Stan Kann on Johnny Carson's show.
The video is really nice. Pretty funny at some moments but serious and cool to make a kite. (y)
When we were kids we just tied some string to the handles of a carrier bag
1 metre SQUÈ?
I want the one that can fly very higher it is very wonderful
Olivia yaks an African
That's how Ben Franklin started out, in the rain
greetings from holland

Nebeel0 You think the clouds are faked? You should get out more, haha :) Merry Christmas
DIY Perks hahaha....sadly you're right.......merry christmas....
+DIY Perks I think u did this infront of a green screen and used fans to produce wind... Lmfao...
When you are watching this video but you fly kites that are $300 a pop...
Nice work for a quick and easy sled though
Very nice, i will try it :)
Very true...
