every other video i’ve seen had taken the entire headlight out this seems so much easier

All depends how much you are willing to do. ( For changing the plastic cover I don't see how removing headlight fully will make it easier)
There is the fast way with removing and undoing as less as possible, or undoing bolts, unplugging wires , finding safe place were to change the part, without ruining it.
At the very end it depends from the person.

If you like the OEM headlights, and don't want to spend huge amount on the new OEM ones, that it's worth a good resto

Did you manage to get all tabs to hook to the cover or only the top three? The oem cover hooks to all tabs, but the aftermarket ones only to the top. Thanks

The lower 3 are barely holding there, they do tab on them, but slip off if you push the lenses upwards.
Aftermarket stuff dose have lose fitment issues. You could heat up and bend the tabs upwards a bit.
