Looking at all the languages in the commentary... I find it remarkable how one man can touch so many people without uttering a single word. This is how you win at life.
My favorite quote from Departures, "One grown cold restored to beauty for all eternity. This was done with a calmness, a precision, and above all a gentle affection. At the final parting, sending the dead on their way, everything done peacefully and beautifully."
That scene was absolutely masterful. They really did bring her back to life... as though she was sleeping, just for a brief moment, so that they could say goodbye.
I cried listening to One Summer's Day. 9:47 - 10:08 always get to me. I hear that and I think of Chihiro sitting in the train with No Face on the way to the witch's twin sister, listening to the piano playing in the background as I myself am 7 years old watching. I don't cry often but this one gets me.
One of my biggest wishes right now is to watch Joe Hisaishi live in concert. I only just recently discovered his music (HOW LATE AM I) and oh gawd.. I can just sit there and listen to his music while being transported to a gazillion different worlds and go through a myriad of emotions and feelings. He is amazing
i love both of the songs. I have a deep respect for Joe Hisaisi and his work of art. I have NEVER felt so many emotions while listening a piece of music. All of the little elements of his songs takes me trough so many different worlds. So many beautiful, sad, desperate, bittersweet, melancholy, hopeful and joyful moments. Everything stops when i hear this beautiful music. My world stops but at the same time my whole world begins because i can feel. I can feel so many different emotions that i have lost. Deep deep emotions that makes me feel that the world is so beautiful it almost hurts. This is pure art. Thank you Mr. Hisaishi. Your music has affected my life in so many ways and it will always have a special place in my heart.
+aziangrl95 it seems to me thst the orchestra plays much more powerfully than other Japanese orchestra's he's conducted with, which gives the music a completey different feel. Just my opinion :)
+TheEnigmaticHermit Good point! I think many people feel a significant difference between Western and Eastern orchestras, especially in terms of color, tone, manner of playing, and general interpretations of pieces as well. Personally, I think Western orchestras are a bit more superb when it comes to technique, fullness of sound, and coherence. (Just personal opinions here! hehe)
Muy bonita! en momentos así de estar pasándolo verdaderamente mal, lo único que me apetece es escuchar cosas tuyas, eres un gran músico y compositor. Gracias!
one of the best comments I have ever read. It's just how I feel about music. I can't express how grateful I am for the modern classics composed by geniuses like Hisaishi, Uematsu or Hamauzu. They are all great and yet so manifold...
That's right. Doesn't matter you're a European, Asian, African, etc. if you're enough sensitive, this masterpiece will blow you up from slipper each time hearing it:)
A perfect example showing how precious music is. It travels not only throughout time, but also breaks down barriers between nations, languages and races.
8:30 best piece of music ever. I get goose bumps just thinking about it. True love couldn't be anymore innocent than shown by Sen and Haku in this film.
ahhhhh..... it's making me cry out loud...... esp when it reminds you of the movie at the same time.. ***WAHHHH*** it's too beautiful... too beautiful.... 生きているがよかったね...
It's beautiful, and I'm glad I purchased some sensei's albums when I was in Asia. However, can anyone kindly tell what symphony orchestra was playing with Mr. Hisaishi in this video? I'm wondering if it's an Eastern European one...

Such a crisp recording. I find this performance to be better than the original.
No one is capable of competing with Uncle Joe
Departures is a masterpiece of epic proportion.
My favorite quote from Departures,

Departures, this song don't need lyrics.
This is one of the best version and the best recording I’ve heard. The cello is BEAUTIFUL ~~~~
So many nostalgic memories of the movie. Departures is a sad and brilliant movie. Must watch
Wow wow wow, a different flavour from the Japanese orchestras I have heard him conduct. Deeply Moving.
+TheEnigmaticHermit how so may i ask? just curious

***** Exactly my thoughts! Just much more eloquently articulated :P
+Daniel Hong although I share most of your views I would like to add that Eastern and Western orchestras are both magnificent in their own difference

Such a powerfull soundtrack. The most heart breaking scene is when a husband lost his wife.
Absolutely loved the movie and am now so pleased to hear the full music. The cello piece was an "amuse-bouche". Thank you very much.
Um dos filmes mais comoventes que já assisti. Trilha sonora impecável como não se emocionar. Uma obra prima.
Among the music Joe Hisaishi composed, this one is actually my favourite. Also the movie is really really good.
