Lietz is one of the best drivers in the world. He's like a NCO in the army - super calm and experienced. I am surprised that Michael is quite a headcase. He's negative, cannot control his nerves or his emotions consistently. He's moody and he does not demonstrate the self-control necessary to be a competitive racing driver, and this is just Bronze in ELMS, this is not fast AMs in WEC. He would have been better off 2 seasons in Carrera Cup, then a season in LMP3 before driving a $1M+ RSR. I understand why Porsche did it - great publicity and I know the Customer Racing program is benefitting from this. If they put a blood oxygen monitor on Michael, I bet they will find he takes extremely shallow breaths. This is why a man as fit as him is exhausted after 1h at Portimao in a GT. He puts so much pressure on himself he is suffering from performance anxiety in addition to the lack of self-control. If he was not so famous and contributing to the running of the Proton team with the Porsche AG subsidy, Richie and Felipe would have dumped him a long time ago.

He totally has massive performance anxiety but good for him for sticking with it and actually performing at some level. It would be really hard to keep participating, especially at the beginning or after the crash.

It's just that Lietz is most likely very comfortable in an environment of high performing athletes who do very well under stress, so he has to adapt, and actually really try to understand (again) how it is as a starting driver. I'm very impressed by Fassbender, because yes he is an emotional guy, but he has that attitude of someone who has accomplished things in life on pure willpower and determination. He actually is very rational in his analysis of situations and knows very well what he is capable of, but his ambitions and his skill level are just not alligned properly during these 2 seasons. Like he said earlier, his mind is just flustered by all the information during these high pressure moments. Tom Boonen for example, ex-bike racer, did really well early on in his driving career, because he came from a high performance sport environment.
Without question, the best story series on YT. Positively portrayed, supportive team, showing what it takes to drive at a top level, and, in particular, not every story ends like a fairy tale. It takes hard work, a great team and it still doesn't mean you'll end up on top. Success requires a ton of work and nothing is guaranteed. Thank you Porsche!
Ive watched both seasons in 2 days. I truly believe this is one of the best Motorsport Documentary series ever. From the editing to the cinematography to the sounds (which is incredibly important for a motorsport docu) Truly a masterclass of how to shoot a racing documentary.
This series is fantastic. Michael's experience mirrors that of any person trying to realize a childhood dream-the reality is often so much further from the fantasy than we'd like to admit, but is ultimately so much more rewarding. Luckily, Felipe, Richard, and the rest of the team have created an environment where experiential growth is not only possible, but encouraged and it's been inspiring to watch someone like Michael be humbled, but not discouraged. Despite how hard he is on himself, or how deeply he feels his insecurities, he still gets in the car, does his stint, and tries his hardest-a lesson that applies to every facet of life, not just racing.
Imagine being in the position of Leitz and Laser who are two very competitive drivers with a teammate that is not. It is incredible how they are sacrificing their chances of winning by essentially being Michael's teachers. Great mates.
Well every team in the ELMS GTE class has to have a bronze driver, an amateur if you will. I also don't think they care about results both already have achieved bigger things than an ELMS victory.
@@Maenfy Yeah, I mean Lietz has won 3 GTE class victories at Le Mans, the Nurburgring 24 Hours overall and the 2015 FIA WEC driver's championship for GTE Pro. He doesn't exactly have much to prove.

Being Michael’s age and loving sim racing in my spare time… to be in a real car living his dream must be amazing. Definitely feel his pain with his shoulders and arms after a long stint. Can’t wait to watch season 3. Loving this series… it’s probably the best entertainment I’ve ever seen with a driver.
This is waaay more intresting than any other endurance racing documentary because we're following a driver and his development and struggles through a season! This series is simply amazing and I can't wait for season 3! Hoping that Michael can get more competitive and get on that podium!

If he weren't so hard on himself, he would not have become an amazing actor that he is. I think there is enough people in the world who are not hard on themselves - they constitute the average majority. Luckily for us, there are some people never satisfied with themselves - they are the ones that become great.
@@martatrela6224 As an actor of course he was right to push hard, but racing is another matter when competing against Pros, to push harder would be quite stupid and has nothing to do with laziness... Try to relax and be happy, which doesn't look like on your photo btw :-) pushing hard is for ego only, happiness is to be shared with your friends !!!

I guess there is people who would rather be other things than happy i.e.: be as good as they can be in what they do no matter what they are doing and whom they are competing against. Maybe it's not even a matter of choice but of character - Fassbender doesn't choose to be hard on himself instead of being happy, he simply is that way - there is nothing he can do about it but there is nothing bad about it either. I really think there is enough people in the world who relax and share happy moments with their friends and personally find it inspiring to see people who do exactly the opposite.
This series has been so superbly edited and produced it deserves and award. Also whoever is scoring these episodes is doing a phenomenal job. Love it!!! Also as a race fan this is great content!!

Michael, you showed so much improvement in a big jump from Cup cars to GTE. In the beginning, as you say, you had a "false" confidence because you didn't really know what you were getting into. But the steps you made, the mistakes, bad luck, etc. that every driver experiences, and your successes have given you a strong foundation for real confidence moving forward. I can't wait to see how things go next season. Best wishes to you and the team. Thank you Porsche for allowing us to ride along on this amazing journey!

Worthy of Netflix or mainstream TV, a beautifully produced insight into Motorsport. Huge respect for the Pro drivers and Mr Fassbender. Start building that trophy cabinet over winter! :-)
The main thing which makes this series so entertaining to watch - you know it's not a movie, and you ain't getting a happy ending for free. You know it's real life, and literally everything can happen on a race track.

Have been totally engrossed with this series. Have to admire Michael - driving in these cars shows you up warts and all, there is no backroom edit that will "make you look good" ... Kudos. Also Porsche - damn what a car !!!
A fantastic series! It makes me love motorsports more than what I already do, especially since I started watching the 'Endurance' documentary. The truth is that you can learn a lot from motorsports, applying to overcome setbacks in life.
Loved watching Michael's journey. Can't wait to see his development over the next season. A truly inspirational attitude to achieving one's dreams and goals. Best of luck next season!
