Don, I thank you for these tutorials you do. When I first heard of this program and started fiddling with it you where the only person on youtube who answered my pm's when I had fractally challenged questions about settings etc. That's why I'll always support your channel. Keep up the good work.
Thanks, Don, for the great tutorial! I got back into playing with M3D recently and watching this video was an epiphany because I never used the controls on the right pop-out of the Navigator window! That opened up a universe for me.
I absolutely love your tutorials. I think you do an amazing job, but I only have a laptop so as glad as I am to actually see the man who is teaching me, I need all of the screen I have to see what's going on. I don't really need to see you to learn what you are teaching me, though it would be great if I had a large monitor. If I really get involved with this program I will have to buy a large monitor to attach my laptop to so I'm not always having to drag one screen over the other to see it. I'll be able to have all 3 screens up at the same time and it won't be as challenging. Thank you so much though because you can read all of the instructions in the world but it's so much easier to learn if you see it being done right in front of you. Like in the first tutorial, I couldn't find the anti aliasing sliders on the main page and then I realised I just didn't have the page pulled out enough on the right side. So I pulled the right edge out a little and there were the hiding controls. I had an old version of Mandelbulb 3D and when I opened it I could only get 1 screen and the other two were stationary and I couldn't get them to move no matter what I tried. It was an easy fix though. It just took downloading the newest version. I downloaded the version I had a long time ago but never got around to trying it. There were no video tutorials at the time and reading the instructions was just too overwhelming. Seeing the fractals people have been putting on Deviantart inspired me though. I hadn't submitted anything for quite awhile and when I made several new fractals and submitted them over the last 4 or 5 days I saw the 3D fractals people were creating and I knew I had to get to work and start learning. You have made it 100 percent easier to learn and I thank you wholeheartedly. Sharon E. Thomas darkestnightmare.deviantart.com/
I find your videos very helpful. Although I am new to the 3D world and brand new to Mandelbulb community I am very excited about learning a new tool. At this point I'm so new it's hard to get started. I tried the forum at their website but it seems the community is still pretty advanced for me. Still needing real basic breakdowns on how to get started.
Loved the video. Your personality kept me glued to the screen! I used to watch hours of fractal like visuals, and I mainly started looking into this to make visuals for my music..but now I do see it can take months to make a 2 minute video, assuming you have all the tweaks and an editor. How long do you think it would take to learn the basics starting from ground zero? As for this looks very overwhelming haha.
I'll give it a look. My PC is a 6 core Phenom II at 3.2ghz. I also use an el-cheapo 2 core laptop that I use to render some of the longer vids. I set up everything on my main system then let my little laptop chug along generating the frames.
I'm not sure if I missed it in your tutorial but how do you take the folder full of individual animation frames and then make it into a movie file which can be viewed with a media player or uploaded to you tube?
ericartist you can even just load all of the rendered frames into Win Movie Maker if you don't have or can afford a big program like Sony Vegas. Set your frame time to 0.03 seconds or maybe 0.04 to get a smooth transition between frames. Select All frames when changing times, unless you want to make certain frames play longer. I just got a free video program called HitFilm and it has loads of cool features! They have a channel on TH-cam just search it here.
Yes, When you render an animation, you are rendering one full image for each from of the movie. You'll need a video editor or other app to string them all together into a movie, then save that into a common video format. You can use the Render Preview feature in the animation pallette to make a low-resolution version of your animation then save it directly as an animated gif.
You got an amzing light (at home) dude ;), I'm just starting discovering M3d, I would like make a cube with some fractal on it for import in Blender, I hope that will be not so difficult...
You can make 360 panoramic videos, but not stereo 360. Look on the Navigator window, open the bottom tab thingy and look for Camera options. Select Pano for a 360 image. Or press f5 to cucle through 3 cam modes
Don. I have downloaded the latest M3D 1.9.9. It does not have the sample 3D parameters/image that you are using in this video. Can you help me with that. Thanks.
I think this is the file that I used to start the demonstration. www.dropbox.com/s/lkonmj05xp95qum/iHEARTfRACTALS.m3a It is a Mandelbulb 3D animation file (.m3a) so you would load it in via the animation palette.
hey Don i realize this is a pretty old tutorial so I hope you see this but one very basic thing im having a really hard time with is just rotating my object (a platonic) on its center axis without morphing the shape or actually getting it on a real center axis without the look of it drifting. any way you can help? im happy to go into more detail
It's possible to rotate the fractal without moving the camera. If you look on the main window, above the Calculate 3D button, there is a Rotation button. You can adjust the values, then Apply to Image to send new values to main window.
After I have all the files completed from a final render how do I compile them into one smooth video clip? The format of that final clip does not really matter as I will then use Adobe Media Encoder to convert it into .mov/DXV3 codec so it usable in Resolume Arena 5. I just dont know where to go from here Thanks - Baker, BLIND Studios
Hi Im trying to make a hunge render in mandelbulb 3d about 4500 x 29000, mandelbulb says not enough memory, and asking in facebook the community recomend me the only way to get this render is make smaller parts as tiles and after stich eachother in Photoshop, but I try it in lower resolution, and i cant make tiles fit together, seems to be for the perspective in each reander is different what make sense, then , I need your help to know what way I can do it, what way to take the same scene in several tiles renders but make that all fit together perfectly.
You can try stitching together your tiles using an app made to stitch panoramas. Microsoft makes a good, free one called ICE. www.microsoft.com/en-us/research/product/computational-photography-applications/image-composite-editor/ There is also an option in Mandelbulb3D for large-scale renders. Look on the main windows under the TOOLS tab. Should see a Big Render option. I haven't used it much but it basically does what you want to do.
I used some screen recording software - in this case I think it was Camtasia, but now I generally use one called Action! mirillis.com/en/products/action.html The video of my face I captured with my camcorder. I edited it all together in my video editing software. I use Sony Vegas. There are a few free screencasting apps, even some web-based ones like this: www.screencast-o-matic.com/ hard to find a good, free video editor, but Windows Movie Maker is OK for simple things like this.
Hi Don! Do you have a tutorial on how to finish an animation? I would really love to know what to do when all of the slides are finally rendered. I know you have to put them into some film editing program.but I have no idea what program or if there is a free program and it would really be nice to know the steps you take after the slides are done rendering like how you put them into a video editor and how you get it to work, add music and type if you want to put any written information over your animation at the beginning or end. I think people take it for granted that we are just going to know that part, but I sure dont'. It would be great to have that information covered in a video on TH-cam. Thanks for any help you can give. Sharon
Hi, Absolutely impossible from scratch to get the same image as you describe to start reproducing what you do. I have put the right numbers in the 2 formulas as you can see in the montage here : sweiller.free.fr/envrac/ProblemMDB0001.jpg Please help !!
Thanks and I do appreciate your support - and everyone who subscribes, comments, and watches. I do all this stuff for fun but it it still very nice to know when people are watching and enjoying my vids.
Thanks for this :D I'm planning to make a second mandlebulb, and this will help me alot! I was wondering if you could spare the time to view my mandlebulb and give me some advice? I know of the camera work(Going through walls). (watch?v=hJlIFxoo_4k) And what are your specs of your PC ? My first movie, the rendering took 66hrs for 2 mins. Thanks
I use my video editing app (Sony Vegas). Any editing app should allow you to assemble frames into a video. If you are looking for a free way you can use Blender. I'll put a link in the description here to someone's tutorial on using Blender to assemble to video frames.

Ok I don't know exactly what is the problem but if you get 404 error please change in the navigator manually the URL from sweiller.free.fr/envrac/Proble%C2%ADmMDB0001.jpg into sweiller.free.fr/envrac/ProblemMDB0001.jpg Thanks
hogofwar You just load all of these frames into a video editor like Windows Movie Maker or get a better Free editor like HitFilm to string them together, remember that you need to tell the editor how long each frame plays for, like 30 frames per second. In Win Movie Maker try setting all frames to 0.03 in the edit tab.
Yeah you nailed it at around that 9 minute mark. I'm just getting back in to MB3 after years away. Thanks for making this.
I just recently stumbled upon M3D and your videos were the best introduction i have seen, thanks a lot :)

Love your Mandelbulb3D tutorials, Don!
Thanks for that very helpful walk through, I just downloaded mandelbulb today and can't wait to fire it up now I've seen this!
Great vids and tut's Don! Mad props to you Sir.

what are you mean MONTHS to make a 2 minute video? Just buy a powerful pc )
I'll give it a look. My PC is a 6 core Phenom II at 3.2ghz. I also use an el-cheapo 2 core laptop that I use to render some of the longer vids. I set up everything on my main system then let my little laptop chug along generating the frames.

Use a program like Adobe After Effects to composite the frames into a movie.

I use paint shop pro animation maker.
i can't figure out how to play back the saved animations on my mac. do i need a diffrent program to watch\play and share my animations

Hi excelent vid
What programe can you use to convert the single frames into a avi or other video file.
can you do it in Mandelbulb 3D?
Thanks
This is awesome. Thank you so much!
You got an amzing light (at home) dude ;), I'm just starting discovering M3d, I would like make a cube with some fractal on it for import in Blender, I hope that will be not so difficult...
i downloaded all Your tutorials and stared to learn. Very big thanx and have better new year

I wonder if there is a option to save the fisheye image for VR head set, i wold like to make a video for VR, or its not possoble?

Why were there only 3 completed images when the last one was 5. There were 3, 4 and 5, but what happened to the first two images?

You aren't explaining what you are doing. You are just doing this then that and some more of this but not explaining what you are doing.
can we render with alpha channel?after i rendered png sequence file but it didnt have alpha channel.
so i cant re-edit by using after effects etc....
