Kawasaki absolutely needs to make a brute force 1000! I’ve been dying for one ever since I got my 2007 and now a 2017 brute force 750! If they make one I’ll be at the dealership the next day pre ordering one!
Thanks for another great video! You made it clear that it is much more complicated than just slapping a larger engine into an existing machine. It seems that the Japanese manufacturers have no appetite to involve themselves in competing in the 1 litre ATV class.
When you look into Yamaha in general you'll see they are downsizing. In the motorcycle section for example there is no mere Grand tourer. The former FJR had a 1300cc engine the biggest tourer now is the Tracer with a 900cc. Same for the All Road adventure, Was a 1200cc is now down to a 700cc. I guess it might have to do with the near future where everything has to go electric ( not that I like that). Is there a point in investing a fortune to develop a complete new fuel powered quad for only so many years? Because Europe for example wants to ban the sales of fuel powered vehicles as soon as possible likely already before 2028. When other continents follow Yamaha will have no time the earn back the huge development costs of that new platform.
Just bought a 2018 brute force 750. Already had 28" mega mayhems on it. Wow , is that thing a monster ! Feels like your wrestling a bear when you floor it !
Huge Kawi fan. Them keeping the same motors forever like u said, and just updating minor things up to modern demand has worked very well for them and it keeps the price down low while also meeting KommieFornia EPA rules. That said, the shining light on the BF750 is how much lighter it is while still having more power than anyone ever needs.
I need seat time on a Grizzly 700 to see how it compares to the 1000cc class but I feel like the 700 is in the sweet spot. What you would lack In power would be made up for by weight, agility, and reliability over the big 1k’s An 850 Grizz does sound awesome though especially if they did an upgraded suspension package.
I, just like you guys, would love to see a new 1,000 cc quad from the Japanese MFG’s. Maybe it’s a notion but either of them should be better than Polaris when it comes to reliability. However that Polaris is big guy comfortable. Either way I think Kawasaki has given up on ATV’s. The have the Kymco 300 and the 750 that’s been unchanged in 100 years. Yamaha has a good thing going and is almost too conservative of a company to do it. Last motor change on the grizzly (708cc) was a flop. Plus like you said in the video trail ridding doesn’t take a ton of horse power. I got rid of my can am outlander 1k, I’m looking to downsize for reliability. Evidently I’m not adult enough to manage a 1k and not tear it up. Part of me says 520 Rubicon foot shift but I don’t know if I could handle the power loss from my 1k. Ultimately as I get older and have less free time reliability is becoming more important than ultimate power. Sucks getting old. Thanks for keeping atv content out there guys.
First of all, thank you! Secondly, completely agree that the big Polaris machines are comfortable, but we're apparently not adult enough to keep them together either.. We just tested the Rubicon footshift, I don't think you'd be happy with it coming from an Outlander.. It doesn't shift they way you'd think and it's a very stiff ride.. We just did a video comparing it to a Sportsman recently.. I hope you find the right machine!
You could always try the outlander 570. I find it plenty powerful enough to have fun but not so powerful that you are constantly breaking stuff all the time. To me 40hp-50hp is the sweet spot for power. The outlander 650 at 62hp isn't too bad either.
@@DirtObseXXion thanks for the response! I have watched all these videos over and over. Thinking the Grizzly is my first choice at this point. However with my kids just getting into riding on their Honda 90 and Recon so speed won’t be a big need for awhile. Watching the ride on that Rubicon vs the Sportsman ride in your other video is very telling. Thanks again for doing what your doing.
@@bvick1708 peak power is only a small part of the equation. the outlander 570 has a ton of low end regardless of size and as far as the 48 peak hp it has, that's plenty for nearly any situation, plus they are great on gas for long rides too.
The crew at Kawasaki put a supercharger on their 1000cc motorcycles so they are crazy enough to make a 1000cc ATV and I hope come early June we'll see one.
Great video and commentary. I have owned a big bore ATV(1000) and 2 Grizzlies. I really like the Grizzly except for the price! The other one just made my appendage hard. Now with another manufacturer making a big bore 700, it's really obvious that Yamaha is over priced. Granted the Yamaha has the best power steering, the best CVT, and a chassis that is really nice in the woods. Oh, and the big thing, the locker! Wow. Maybe the price isn't as bad as I was thinking it was. Nawwww! It's pretty expensive. You get what you pay for I guess. Maybe Yamaha needs to consider that their ATV has been the SAME for over 15 years and consider an adjustment, to be more competitive in it's pricing for what they're offering. Let's face it, they're about $2500 more than the competition. Just a thought from a guy who's owned 2.
I was riding a Brute Force and I was amazed by how easy it was to bring the front up and carry a wheely That bike had twice the get up and go than my single cyl 750 Suzuki….
A high output Grizzly would be awesome. It would be nice if Yamaha offered a Genuine OEM performance upgrade kit for the 700's, big bore kits etc.. I think they would sell fairly well.
Personally I’d say Yamaha nailed the mark with the current 700 platform. I’ve wheeled my kodiak in 6 different states across the east coast and Midwest and it has great power on the trail and for a decent price point too. I can’t see Yamaha changing that anytime soon
Two holes in the ATV market, well there are more like 40 holes but I’ll stick with 2: 1) A youth 4x4 atv around 150-200cc. I understand that it’s an issue of economics but the market has changed, people are getting used to spending more for atv’s and spending 5k for a kids quad is no longer out of the question. 2) A Japanese 1000cc quad. If Yamaha came out with a Grizzly 1000 EPS XT-R in that cool graphite/red color from 2019…I would be waiting for preorders like one of those 38 year old virgins camping outside of Best Buy for a new PlayStation.
I have had both I like the power of the brute force but the suspension of the grizzly. I clutched 5ge grizzly it helped on trails. The tank area storage also rocks on the grizzly
I have a 2007 grizzly 700. I have loved it over the years. Great machine. In 2021 I had enough of hearing about Can-Am essentially having twice the ponies. I went and bought the XT-1000. I love it night and day power. I remember telling the sales guy. If Yamaha would just come out with a 1000 comparable to the can-am. I wouldn’t even consider the can am.
@@DirtObseXXion and its not like honda rubicons yamaha grizzlys suzuki kingquads cant go through the mud and have huge mud tires too, in the south in swamps them big vtwins dig down and break the crust of the surface, thats why most guy like hondas for the mud 1 snorkel and lighter but i also got a kingquad and its the same weight as a honda and i crawls out mud holes like a beast and grizzly mud wise is very similar as the kingquad
I've been riding a brute force 750 for a little over 10 years, I just ordered a 2022 can am outlander 1000. 90% of the time I had more than enough power buuut that other 10% it would be nice.
I have a grizzly 700, I’m often full throttle, wishing I had more engine. 850-1000cc would be for the people that like to go sport quad fast but still like to get work done when not on the trails lol.
I had a Wolverine 450 atv years ago. Loved the smaller size and how nimble it was. It just needed more power. Put the 686 cc engine in that smaller chassis and it would feel like a rocket.
If they want change they should blow the roof off the competition. Just go to like a 1200cc engine and get it over with. I wish these Japanese atv makers would get into the two up models. Maybe I might just buy an new Grizzly and stretch it myself instead of waiting for these companies to do it for me. Or better yet I might just make my own atv instead. If I did that I would end up with a chevy 350 engine, duel exhaust, train horn on a four wheeler. I've been known to do some hill billy engineering. Great video lots of knowledge there. Love your chanel.
I was always a yamaha guy when I was younger. My first 5 atv's were all yamaha. Now I lean more to Can Am (had a 650 Xmr and currently have a 570 Xmr), and I also currently have a CF Moto C-Force 600 for the wife. If Yamaha came out with a v-twin Grizzly I would definitely be interested. Though, I really wish they would bring the Warrior or Banshee name back as a sport 4x4 to compete with the renegade since the wolverine is now a sxs.
@@DirtObseXXion Totally agree. The renegade is an amazing machine. I almost pulled the trigger on a 650 a few days ago when I was getting the c-force serviced.
An 850 or 1000 Yamaha ATV would be great! ATVs are great when it comes to plowing and work. They are easily maneuverable and the additional weight and power is needed for what I do. My machines are work machines and they get their use. If Yamaha would make the 850 or 1000 I would definitely invest, but until then I have to go with the larger Polaris.
Man this is some good clean intelligence facts the qlot of people where happy to hear. I appreciate your time you took to make this video. Need more people like ya
First off, thank you for this video!! Second, we need and want several choices in the 850-ish ATV. I would prefer a Honda but could settle for a Yamaha Thanks again
I suspect if either went this route it would be for a 2 up machine. something neither company has but is becoming more popular. Then 2nd seat deletes with storage options.
Good point, they are more popular now, especially with the prices MFGs are asking.. Folks used to be able to buy two machines for the price of a top of line ATV now... I'm sure that has something to do with it...
As always, great video and channel. Always fun to watch. Simply put, the day Yamaha has trouble selling grizzlies, will be the day they re-design. Thus far, that day hasn’t come. People have been beating this drum for years. Sure more power is awesome, but my grizzly 700 has more than I will ever need. Nothing against more options though. Sounds like a great idea. 👍
Great video! I have 2 Grizzlys that have as much power as I’m looking for, for east coast trail riding. Only reason I would want a grizzly 850 or 1000 is for 2 up riding… But that would mean taking my wife trail riding with me. 👎. But sure as hell would run out & buy a Grizzly 850 if it ever comes out!!
I just bought an extremely hard to find (around here) 2023 Grizzly XT-R. Now I see these videos and y’all are making me wonder if I should’ve gone with a 1000cc! My last atv is a 2002 Honda Recon that is still going strong. I wanted to stay with Honda or Yamaha for the reliability but now these 1000’s are making me question things. Then again, we ride mostly just on our trails on our property so maybe a 1000 is just a waste. 🤷🏼♂️
You're reviews are awesome buddy! I can't disagree with your comments about Suziki and Honda as being "less likely" to make a 1,000cc quad. They are both notoriously slow at making changes and considering the other factors, like global emissions rules, etc. it isn't likely they will do it, but I will say this . . . Honda already has a big bore twin set up on an offroad bike, the Africa Twin 1084cc DCT with a whopping 101HP, so wouldn't it be easy to just add 2 more wheels by modifying the Rubicon frame which is already much bigger than the Africa fame? Plus, despite my previously mentioned comment about being resistant to change, they shocked the heck out of everyone when they came out with the Talon only 3 years ago. So maybe they are holding back on upgrades to the Rincon for the simple reason they are working on a totally different machine; a machine with a twin 1000cc engine in it????? Yup, that would be shocking alright - HAHAHA!!!! (and it wouldn't be good for the competition either - lol) 3: 57 - I love the rear mounted CVT on the Polaris. Despite being more difficult to access, the flesh on my left leg almost required reconstructive surgery after riding a stock CanAm from all the heat that clutch gives off. This has been eliminated on the higher end Polaris, which also makes the seat narrower up front instead of feeling like I was sitting on a Clydesdale when I was on the CanAm. Excellent stuff DirtObb! Thanx for getting my brain swirling so early in the morning - lol
Thanks Q! I actually have an Africa twin now, so maybe I'll just mount the motor in one of my wheelers! 🤘.. Honestly tho, the Talon was a necessity and a safe move.. That segment isn't going away and it's huge.. A big ATV is more of a gamble I think..
I drove a 2024 Brute force 750 with fox socks a 110oct tuner stage 3 cams high compression pistons hmf exhaust air box mod , and the thing put my renegade 1000 to shame , not even close it was a monster
As you pointed out the market share of the large displacement machines is not there to make the investment pay off plus the price point is a very limiting factor for most people. I have a large selection of machines to ride including some 1000cc and the ones I ride the most are in the 450 to 750cc range. The Kodiaks/Grizzly's/ King Quad and even a CForce 600 do well for me with enough power and speed to satisfy the fun factor. I'm at the age now of slowing down to smell the roses so to speak and enjoy the scenery and wild life that nature provides. I don't need a 1000cc for that satisfaction.
Great point! When we want the adrenaline surge we stick to our sport machines.. Completely agree the 700 range is more than enough power in a 4x4 ATV..
Even thou there's loud demands for big a twin Yamaha or Suzuki, you just stated there's a fairly low actual demand for them. Taking that into consideration with the fact that with a big twin in a Grizzly the amount of beefing up required (axles, drive shafts, frame rails & a larger overall size) to handle the extra power would take away the biggest benefit Grizzly buyer are aware of, light weight, quick handling in real off road situations (not simply running backroads or high speed trails). The Grizz is a super reliable capable ATV with a wet clutch to eliminate belt problems some of the others might have if actually used as a work or play machine. Same with Kaw 750, it's not simply expanding the motor size, the whole drivetrain would need to be beefed to accommodate the extra hp, or you'd be grenading axles & differentials like a couple big bore brands we already have..... IMHO obviously
Yep! We love the Grizzly, that's why we have one. 100% agree, a lot would have to change if they put a v-twin in an ATV.. And yes there are a lot of guys saying they want an 850 Grizzly but big twin ATVs only account for less than 10% of the ATV market, so I don't see one of the Japanese manufacturers jumping into that pool..
I think both would need a chassis update to fit either a 850 or 1K motor in them. The Brute Force is already in need of a chassis update in my opinion. They could probably leave the motor alone and do some suspension changes and make it feel like a completely new ATV. A chassis update and the Teryx motor to the Brute Force would make a good difference I think. Yamaha has a nice chassis with the Grizzly, but I think it would be overwhelmed with a 850/1K motor in it. But as a 700cc single cylinder motor I do believe it’s time Yamaha went to a twin/v-twin motor and up in displacement.
@@DirtObseXXion Yep. I really like the Kawasaki v-twins. The Prairie/Brute Force 650 with the solid axle and the Prairie 700 were extremely fun utility quads. The 750 could be too if the chassis matched the motor.
I can’t see them going up to 1000cc, 850cc is a possibility. I just bought my 2017 brute force last year and I’m pretty happy with the power being used to my dads outlander 1000 the brute force 750 hasn’t felt underwhelming and I can keep up fairly well when we’re on a straight dirt road with wide open throttle, if there was an 850cc Yamaha or Kawasaki atv that came out I would definitely be looking into it. In a few years or so I may wind up switching to an outlander 850 at some point but not anytime soon.
I know it’s a little long in the tooth being a 10 year old design but shoot the first atv I ever rode by myself was a Suzuki twin peaks 700, I was only 7 years old (I had supervision of course) but the sound of the v twin is really nostalgic for me haha
I'm glad you included the word excess in your review. While the phrase "more is better" is thrown around quite a bit, the design and handling of the machines is a reality overlooked by many. When I hear a customer"s first question involving the top speed, I know it's just another joker looking for bragging rights! If your manhood is judged by the machine you ride and not who you are as a person, you need to be tested. Results vary and many do not return. Enjoyed the review.

Most likely between the two ? Kawasaki. Which id choose ? 50/50. Kawasaki would punch harder , Grizzly 1000 slightly more durable . Unfortunately some piece of human feces stole my grizzly and one other machine from my place. I’ve been in a bad place mentally and hate people sometimes, so once I get all this settled I’ll be back in the market looking for a replacement to ride with my boys . I remember at one time when I was doing everything I could possibly do to get Yamaha to build a 1000 Grizzly even talking with Yamaha product manager Travis Hollins and he said that Yamaha would build it. (He lied) But after having a Sportsman xp 1000 no other ATV could compare so don't even think about buying anything else.
From riding a canam 1000 and my 9 year old brute force I just didn’t think it was missing much. The get up and go of the kvf between 0-30 is so good I just don’t think it’s needed. Would be Yamaha Between the two.
if they do, to try compete either one should right from manufacture place have all wire connecters and spark plugs dabbed with dielectric grease and fancy snorkels not fancy breathers that look like snorkels
Good discussion Chad, I wonder with the atv market going by way of sxs if it’s worth competing with Polaris and Can Am in a shrinking pool of buyers. Stay safe 🙂
I owned a 750 Brute. I wish I still had it! The 750 I had, had way more than enough power and anything more would have been unnecessary overkill unless you just like bragging rights. My Brute 750 was just that. A BRUTE! Kawasaki is long overdue for a serious update of their T2/T4 sxs platform though. They are getting left behind Polaris and Can Am in that market.
That's true the Tyrex is long toothed as well.. Kawasaki seems content to have long running machines.. The KLR650 was mostly unchanged for about 30 years before the last update..
That brute force is one of the smoothest engaging cvts every made. A great machine even though old, I fear if Yamaha and kawi did redesign that the prices would be even more ridiculous than now.
I have a 2020 grizzly, I love it, but it could use a few more HP. I would like to see the tenere twin engine go in to a grizzly. Rather than an 800 or 1000.
I've got a Grizzly 700 and I love the smaller engine. I've rode my friend's 1000 CC machines and they feel "heavier." For Yamaha, I'd say that the Grizzly should get the 850 max, and keep the ol' 700 (686) for the Kodiak. I'd still buy a Grizzly 700 today if I was shopping.
I think the biggest and easiest version both could make is a 2up machine. I personally would like a longer quad and bit wider quad, most of the times I’m riding on SxS trails anyway that 72” SxS’s are barreling down. Give me a 50”-52” wide grizzly that’s as long as a can am max with a 850cc engine and that would be a great machine and would sell really good. Leave the 700 alone and make a 2 up 850cc that’s 50”-52” wide. Put nice big racks on it that can hold 200lbs, make towing 1500lbs, now I’m just getting greedy lol. Heck if there was a 850 two up grizzly with fox shocks instead of the stock shocks, I’d prob go out and buy one then sell my current grizzly 700. Something comparable to Can am Outlander max XTP.
I feel that its about time for yamaha to do something like a 1000cc engine to regain their best atv status.A new chassis with new engine(v twin)would really set a new standard in the atv world..
Honda 680 rincon would be a great test subject. Already has IRS add 27" rubber plus power steering with a locking diff an toss that motor in the scrap an stuff in the African twin. It Would take homda to a whole new level
Currently on an can am xmr outlander 1000 and I find it a lot for most riders really heavy long chassis. Buddy has a foreman 520 well built and it just as much fun 🤷🏽♂️even in crazy mud you can get by with an 850
I can see that.. There's two schools of thought when it comes to mud.. 1. Hammer down, fling sh!t everywhere.. Or control the power delivery and maintain slow forward progression.. 1000ccs support number 1, just about anything can do #2
Hey.. other wish.. 2 UP versions... 2 up grizzly.. especially dirtxxx .vids about. and atv over sxs preference.. this would retract sxs market back to atv..
Would choose a Kawa. Not that i don't like the Grizzly, but the yamaha dealerships here only sell motorcycles and are totally shyte on that already. So between 2 reliable brands I will choose for the one with the better dealership network and after sales in my area.
Interestingly enough if you watch honda pro kevin's video on the Rincon there are some rumblings of a possible refresh and honda is currently building a new Africa twin motorcycle engine that will fit perfectly in a quad chassis
stuff kawasaki need to do for me to consider one . Better seating and posistioning . 4x4 system like the grizzly/kingquad and a smooth shifting transmission . that 750 twin is nice and if they could just bump it to lik 800/900 cc . imo those 1k machines are not where its at . all the noise and rpm they make is not something im intrested in
Would you guys on this channel recommend any performance upgrades to the grizzly??? I have a 2021 grizzly and I find the power slightly underwhelming. I know people use clutch shims, fuel modifiers, and exhaust mods. Do you recommend any of these? Have you tried any? Thanks for your help!
There's a lot of potential power in that motor! I'd recommend checking into EHS Racing for Grizzly mods, they have a lot of experience with the Grizz.. If you're really looking to boost performance it's best to do a big 3; programmer, full exhaust and intake.. Do it all at the same time because the programming is interdependent.. That will give you a lot of extra power without getting into the motor..
After watching your videos, dirtrax, and some others like Pete Hager’s valiant and noble war on keeping sport quads alive, I’d say update the Bruteforce, make it a 800 or 850 and add a better suspension package with better tires. The grizzly I am a fan of but from a distance. I haven’t rode one or even sat on one but everything I see and hear seems positive. I think if kawi is going 1000, it needs to be under the KFX package. It can be with independent rear suspension and the above mentioned in terms suspension and tires. But when you want or need 1000, I doubt it’s less about farm use and more about fun. Just an opinion.
I love yamaha's I have a 2003 Kodiak 450 but I'm debating now on getting a new machine and what I'd like to know is the differences in between the grizzly and that new Moto 8 00 or 1000 seems like nobody does a comparison in between them two that I've seen
Agree 💯, it is squarely a decision of ROI. In challenging Polaris and CanAm they would likely lose that sweet spot of versatility, cost and mass market appeal. Let’s face it, not everyone wants (much less actually needs), a 70+ HP machine. Most riding circumstances favor ‘jack of all trades’ than they do extreme torque, weight and HP. Then again, power is akin to a condoms - better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it. Good thing the world doesn’t make decisions based on the scenario above, or maybe it does? 🤷♂️ I digress…😅
That would be cool.. It desperately needs a redesign if it's going to be competitive in GNCC.. There's still a couple out in some of the amateur classes but they take a lot of work to get them up to stock renegade in terms of strength and rigidity.. It would take some additional frame gusseting and an entirely re-designed steering stem to start.. But any competition in GNCC is good for ATVs.. It's all can am in 4x4 and Yamaha in the sport classes.. That's kinda boring
Yeah I know one of the top 4x4 pro teams and they have to gusset their renegade frames . They are weak and normally break in the rear if they get bottomed out.
this would be great and push the competition for certain. I don't see anyone taking out Can Am any time soon though. The OEM's will be hard pressed to build a better, more powerful V Twin than Can Am. I've owned them all and still to my Renegade 1000's because riding a rollercoaster is fun!

What would you choose between the Grizzly 700, Outlander XT 850 and Renegade 650? These are all relative in price point but very different in many ways.
Like you mentioned, very different machines so I'll tell what I Personally would choose and why.. I go with a Grizzly 700 EPS, we have an XTR and an Outlander 1000.. We don't like the Zillas on the XTR (they're good mor mud riders tho) which is why I'd go with the EPS. The Grizzly is the best handling of all them with the best power steering and worlds better ergonomics and comfort in my opinion. Cons: it's the least powerful but we still think it has very fun mid-range for trail riding.. Next choice would be the Outlander XT. I think this one is best value for the money the Rotax is a very powerful engine, th downside is the power steering isn't very good, the suspension goes soft quickly (we're replacing springs on ours) and I'm not a fan of how the Outlanders ride and feel.. I acknowledge that's personal preference too.. The Renegade 650 doesn't have power steering which takes it out of contention for me.. CanAm DPS isn't good but it's absolutely necessary in my opinion and the Renegade 650 would be a much better option if it had DPS.. Since it doesn't, I'd rather have DPS, better mud protection and more power from the Outlander 850.. I recently bought a KingQuad and if you haven't considered one of those you should check out our Grizzly 700 vs KingQuad 750 video..
@@DirtObseXXion Thank you for your honesty and thorough response. I've really been enjoying your Channel and have actually watched the video you mentioned comparing the King Quad and Grizzly. It did peak my interest in the King Quad and while it is not an important factor I still gravitate towards the Grizzly for looks. Appreciate your advice on your experiences with the different ATV's.
EIGHT REASONS FOR 1000cc: 1) Acceleration 2) Speed on sustained hill climbs 3) Offset power losses at high altitude 4) Large payloads (e.g. 2nd person, camping gear, fuel, tools, etc.) 5) Mud and snow (spinning wheels) 6) Larger wheels/Tires (30" Mudzillas) 7) Towing 8) Tracks I personally appreciate my 1000cc for all these reasons. And, when using tracks in snow, at altitude (9000'+), climbing steep sustained grades, even more than 1000cc would be appreciated, as would a cooler running geared transmission.
@@DirtObseXXion A fellow rider has a Grizzly and a Can Am 1000. I've ridden the Griz both with and without tracks. It is impressive and is considerably better than the big quads on side slopes. I am guessing that its low center of gravity is why you prefer it on hills rather than a more powerful quad. Its lighter weight and its low end torque are also a plus. I have been amazed at how reliable it and especially its clutch has been hill climbing with tracks. My only complaint is that he later put a ridiculously load exhaust on it. It added a little power. But it is deafening and just plain offensive.
@@gregparrott Yeah, the weight and balance on the Grizzly and I've never expirienced any belt slippage or anything.. The CanAm's have a shorter wheel base and the power easily lifts the front end. The Polaris machines have just me hanging too many times..
@@DirtObseXXion I have to call you out on an error. I just confirmed the specs. on the manufacturer's websites. The Can Am does NOT have a shorter wheelbase 49.2" Grizzly 51.0" Can Am
I love my grizzly 700. Sold my outlander 650 xmr. It was kind of shitty. Now looking at the overland 1k to add to the fleet unless Yamaha releases a 2up 850 grizzly.
I'd like to see a Grizzly 850 or 1000cc. That being said, Yamaha would want too much $$$ for one. The Grizzly and all other atvs are insanely priced now. Just my opinion.
@@DirtObseXXion I have been out of the industry for 10 yrs last machine was maverick xrs .Before that 2006& 2007 renegade 800 xxc. Raptor is on order, my son got me back into the industry 😜😁🤗
I own a 1000R Canam Outlander after stepping up from an older 800 Outlander. The 800 or 850 is the sweet-spot. The 1000R is too much power for most, including myself. Lol
@@KeithPatterson369D Yep, I've got an Africa Twin which is the motor a lot of dudes think should be in an ATV, but honestly the T7 motor is better.. It's quicker revving with more top end.. Im sure it's because the Honda is detuned but still..
@@DirtObseXXion I own a 2017 Grizzly 700SE! I would like a little more power but i don't want the weight! In deep snow and sand the power would be awesome! But on the two track we ride here in Southern Oregon the weight of the 1000 or the Kawasaki 750 brute is too much!
I have a Rubicon 500 & I don’t usually go over 40 mph unless I’m on the paved road. I ride tight wooded trails & there’s a lot of people. I can’t see myself ever wanting more power & tows everything I’ve wanted. Then I had animals jump out in front of me & glad I wasn’t going faster. I don’t want a heavier quad that I can’t manhandle & don’t want to crash at higher speeds. Around here there are a lot of accidents on the bigger quads mostly Polaris followed by Can-Am because it’s mostly from beginners & letting kids ride them. One Lady died having a quad land on her when she was working in her yard. They figure she was on a slight incline & gave it to much throttle that the belt kicked in & flipped. If I can do a wheelie at a stand still I don’t want it & my friend almost got killed on one of my families Polaris. He tried to go slow but he couldn’t & gave it to much throttle luckly he didn’t flip it but did take off up the side of road & down the ravine. Was surprised he didn’t roll it & I should have taught him how to ride them. He’s never driven anything with a CVT before & I hate the hesitation. Besides are Polaris’s where junk & glad to have gotten ride of them. Then if ya have more power means that more things do break. That’s why Honda’s are more reliable because they’re slow & steady. They never got into the CC wars & safety comes first after they got rid of the ATC & Odyssey. I don’t thing Honda will ever have a 1000cc quad. It depends what you use your quad for & where you ride. Bigger dosen’t mean actually batter & some people do want a bigger quad then the guy next door. I personally like the smaller machines to use my body to move it around where I have control instead of holding on for dear life having it controlling me.
Honestly Yamaha would have put the 850 in the Grizzly already if it was worth while to them. A sporty bare bones 4x4 ATV for a value price would be interesting 🤔
I agree, last time I talked to them they had no intention of changing the Grizzly.. That was awhile back but with the supply shortages right now it would be even harder..
If Yamaha did do a 1000cc atv I honestly think that it would take over the market. Simply because it would be 100 times more reliable than anything else out there.
They just won’t do it. They can’t make a 1000cc machine with the reliability they expect and keep it priced around the canam. Currently the 700-750 range isn’t taking by canam or Polaris. Yea their 570 is more of a comparison but on paper they don’t have a 750 or 700. My Yamaha grizzly was more then my buddies 1000 canam was out the door once I added skid plates and bash bars … a Yamaha 1000 I figure would be almost $5000 more.
I agree, it's really hard to make a bigger heavier machine reliable.. The drive train would be fine.. It's the diffs, steering, and suspension components that would take the brunt of it..
Thanks Gord! I think you're right, it just doesn't make enough sense to them even though we'd all love to see it!
I hope theycome out with a big again.
What you would lack In power would be made up for by weight, agility, and reliability over the big 1k’s
An 850 Grizz does sound awesome though especially if they did an upgraded suspension package.
Holy sh!t, aren't you that FAF Viking guy who races IXCR!?!
Thanks again for doing what your doing.
the engine change supposedly was only because of the tsunami that hit their factory in japan. i think you should try a grizzly if given a chance
@@bvick1708 peak power is only a small part of the equation. the outlander 570 has a ton of low end regardless of size and as far as the 48 peak hp it has, that's plenty for nearly any situation, plus they are great on gas for long rides too.
I am convinced you can make a video about anything powersports related and I would watch it.
🤣🤣🤣🤘
The crew at Kawasaki put a supercharger on their 1000cc motorcycles so they are crazy enough to make a 1000cc ATV and I hope come early June we'll see one.
Lol! Good point, that H2 is sick!
another year let down
Great video guys! Lots of information regarding the challenges of bumping the size up.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Brute Force needs an update desperately and would make the most sense in a bigger motor. Grizzly honestly just needs an H.O. version.
Agreed 👍
I was riding a Brute Force and I was amazed by how easy it was to bring the front up and carry a wheely That bike had twice the get up and go than my single cyl 750 Suzuki….
A high output Grizzly would be awesome. It would be nice if Yamaha offered a Genuine OEM performance upgrade kit for the 700's, big bore kits etc.. I think they would sell fairly well.
If people would stop buying the 700 and 750’s the manufacturers will step up their game
Personally I’d say Yamaha nailed the mark with the current 700 platform. I’ve wheeled my kodiak in 6 different states across the east coast and Midwest and it has great power on the trail and for a decent price point too. I can’t see Yamaha changing that anytime soon
I agree, I don't think they're planning on it either..
I too think the 700 Grizzly is perfect.
Ha ha you have been talking about this for 8 years now hopefully it's soon great video thanks man keep them coming 👍
Slow news decade in ATVs unfortunately... Hopefully something new from Kawasaki today tho!
Two holes in the ATV market, well there are more like 40 holes but I’ll stick with 2:
1) A youth 4x4 atv around 150-200cc.
Lol! Yes 40 holes at least! There's a few things I'd camp out... But now I'll forever be afraid of the 38yr old virgin stigma.. 🤣🤣🤣
Suzuki has the v Strom 1050 v twin engine.....come on guys .
Maybe Yama with the twin 850, who knows ? Also got the 1000 in SxS but that’s big ! Electric ??? If ole Joe will let us drill for Electric lol
Lol! 🤦♂️
I'm genuinely never lacking power in my 700 Grizzly, what is the 1000 bringing to the table? Is it just for building pure mud machines?
It wouldn't be nearly as well rounded as the current Grizzly..
The 1000 is bringing more torque with a twin cylinder end ! Simple answer
I have a grizzly 700, I’m often full throttle, wishing I had more engine. 850-1000cc would be for the people that like to go sport quad fast but still like to get work done when not on the trails lol.
I waited almost 6 months for a grizzly 700 and I couldn’t be happier with it.
Congratulations on the new machine! Grizzlies are awesome!
I had a Wolverine 450 atv years ago. Loved the smaller size and how nimble it was. It just needed more power. Put the 686 cc engine in that smaller chassis and it would feel like a rocket.
There ya go! That would be fun!
Lol! If you build it, I want to do a video on it! Thank you!
If they're gonna come for the Renegade they need to come hard!
@@DirtObseXXion Totally agree. The renegade is an amazing machine. I almost pulled the trigger on a 650 a few days ago when I was getting the c-force serviced.
My can am 1000 was a piece of shit. Grizzly 700 stomps it
An 850 or 1000 Yamaha ATV would be great!
I appreciate that
First off, thank you for this video!!
Second, we need and want several choices in the 850-ish ATV.
I would prefer a Honda but could settle for a Yamaha
Thanks again
Thanks for checking it out!
Thanks Bryan! I agree with that, I like the Grizzly the way it is.. If both were on the market I'd still opt for the 700 personally..
Lol! Preach! 🤘
For me and mine the only thing we'd like to see is about 10 more hp from the Yamaha 686. The rest of the Griz is pretty darn good as is.
Agreed! And you can easily find extra HP in that motor if you really want to
I just bought an extremely hard to find (around here) 2023 Grizzly XT-R.
(and it wouldn't be good for the competition either - lol)
3: 57 - I love the rear mounted CVT on the Polaris.
@@DirtObseXXion . . . True dat bro!
I can get to belt in about a min. because longer wheelbase don't have to nothing but pull the cover.
Well if they can't go bigger perhaps higher compression model of some sort that could stack up to the same hp etc
Agrre with all. The Brute is so close to being really good.. Just a little TLC is all it needs..
@@DirtObseXXion Yep. I really like the Kawasaki v-twins. The Prairie/Brute Force 650 with the solid axle and the Prairie 700 were extremely fun utility quads. The 750 could be too if the chassis matched the motor.

I have two grizzly 550’s plenty of power for me and the best suspension hands down!
Yeah that's the real point I was trying to get across.. The Brute has perfect power for trail riding as is..
Thank you!! Completely agree, a good rider on a Rancher 420 can go anywhere and do anything he needs on 99% of trails.. Thanks for the comment!

if they do, to try compete either one should right from manufacture place have all wire connecters and spark plugs dabbed with dielectric grease and fancy snorkels not fancy breathers that look like snorkels
So you want them more mud focused?
The only time I've wanted more power was on the GP track at Durhamtown. Obviously the Grizzly isn't built for that, so I'm fine with that
Seems like a "Star Racing" power pack upgrade upgrade would make more sense for the Griz. Like a small turbo/super charger set up.
Thanks Rick, a few other guys mentioned that too.. Great idea!
Good discussion Chad, I wonder with the atv market going by way of sxs if it’s worth competing with Polaris and Can Am in a shrinking pool of buyers. Stay safe 🙂
Thanks Peter!
That and there's not much reason to demand the Japanese manufacturers do what can am and polaris have mastered for a decade or so
@@wizard_of_poz4413 agreed
I would totally buy a Grizzly 850 over the polaris sportsman 850 but right now I would take the polaris sportsman 850
I would die happy if Yamaha came out with an 850 Grizzly.
Just got me a 2022 Brute 750, But ya know, if there was an 850 option, I for sure would have bought that one.
Well congratulations on the new machine.. Good call grabbing a 2022 before the 23s came, price just jumped 1400 bucks!
@@DirtObseXXion they add anything worthwhile?
@@blackflycanada4943 They painted the racks on the black camo version yellow...
That brute force is one of the smoothest engaging cvts every made. A great machine even though old, I fear if Yamaha and kawi did redesign that the prices would be even more ridiculous than now.
They'd defintely be 15k ATVs.
@@DirtObseXXion they already cost 15 grand here In Northern Ontario
I have a 2020 grizzly, I love it, but it could use a few more HP. I would like to see the tenere twin engine go in to a grizzly. Rather than an 800 or 1000.
That's a good idea.. We have a Tenere 700, it's an incredible bike.. 🙌
I've got a Grizzly 700 and I love the smaller engine. I've rode my friend's 1000 CC machines and they feel "heavier."
For Yamaha, I'd say that the Grizzly should get the 850 max, and keep the ol' 700 (686) for the Kodiak.
🤘
Honda 680 rincon would be a great test subject. Already has IRS add 27" rubber plus power steering with a locking diff an toss that motor in the scrap an stuff in the African twin. It Would take homda to a whole new level
Currently on an can am xmr outlander 1000 and I find it a lot for most riders really heavy long chassis. Buddy has a foreman 520 well built and it just as much fun 🤷🏽♂️even in crazy mud you can get by with an 850
Our group has 2 850xmrs and a 1000xmr and the 850s walk the 1000
I can see that.. There's two schools of thought when it comes to mud.. 1. Hammer down, fling sh!t everywhere.. Or control the power delivery and maintain slow forward progression.. 1000ccs support number 1, just about anything can do #2
Would be happy with any one
Hey.. other wish.. 2 UP versions... 2 up grizzly.. especially dirtxxx .vids about. and atv over sxs preference.. this would retract sxs market back to atv..
Im 100% with Kawasaki and would be awesome to have a 1000cc
Would choose a Kawa. Not that i don't like the Grizzly, but the yamaha dealerships here only sell motorcycles and are totally shyte on that already. So between 2 reliable brands I will choose for the one with the better dealership network and after sales in my area.
That's definitely an important consideration! Thanks for the comment!
Either one have the capabilities to make a 1000cc Atv
Oh for sure! They just lack the intent..
Interestingly enough if you watch honda pro kevin's video on the Rincon there are some rumblings of a possible refresh and honda is currently building a new Africa twin motorcycle engine that will fit perfectly in a quad chassis
I think he's fluffing up the probability there... The Africa Twin got a new 1084cc motor in like 2020. I have one, I can't see that motor in an ATV..
I see a grizzly 850 as a good size. I think, however, they could use the Wolverine atv platform and make a 1000 similar to the renegade.
That would be awesome!
stuff kawasaki need to do for me to consider one .
@@DirtObseXXion thanks!!
I agree, that much power is more about fun, but it's also just the desire to have the biggest available
750 brute force would be the one to go 1000cc .already has the v-twin platform
I think so too... Obviously
1000 Grizzly for me!
🤘
As good and reliable as the brute force 750 has been i could only imagine a 1000! That thought makes my shorts wet
I love yamaha's I have a 2003 Kodiak 450 but I'm debating now on getting a new machine and what I'd like to know is the differences in between the grizzly and that new Moto 8 00 or 1000 seems like nobody does a comparison in between them two that I've seen
One of them is a time tested, perfectly balanced, extremely reliable machine and the other one is a CFMOTO.. Comparison done.
kawasaki please update the brute force 750 , it's so ugly ! i mean your ninja's are beautiful , why can't the brute force look like a ninja?
Agree 💯, it is squarely a decision of ROI. In challenging Polaris and CanAm they would likely lose that sweet spot of versatility, cost and mass market appeal.
Let’s face it, not everyone wants (much less actually needs), a 70+ HP machine.
Most riding circumstances favor ‘jack of all trades’ than they do extreme torque, weight and HP.
Then again, power is akin to a condoms - better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it.
Good thing the world doesn’t make decisions based on the scenario above, or maybe it does? 🤷♂️
I digress…😅
I would love to see a Brute Force 1,000
IMHO if big y is going to go for a new chassis may as well just go with the triple and side mount it.
That would be cool.. Probably would have pretty significant heat issues though.. They'd have to do a bigger rad for sure..
A little birdy told me polaris is redesigning the scrambler to get back into gncc racing next year. Any thoughts or info on that?
What about a King Quad with a modified Vstrom 1050 engine??, that would be amazing.
If MFGs started using modern motorcycle engines, that would really be something..
this would be great and push the competition for certain. I don't see anyone taking out Can Am any time soon though. The OEM's will be hard pressed to build a better, more powerful V Twin than Can Am. I've owned them all and still to my Renegade 1000's because riding a rollercoaster is fun!
I agree with that, can't beat Rotax power!
@@DirtObseXXion can Ham aren't hard to beat when they're broken down in the mud hole ,I'll keep my reliable grizzly any day over a can am or Polaris the 2 most unreliable machines out there

What a great and detailed response to a good question…. Thank you
EIGHT REASONS FOR 1000cc:
1) Acceleration
2) Speed on sustained hill climbs
3) Offset power losses at high altitude
4) Large payloads (e.g. 2nd person, camping gear, fuel, tools, etc.)
5) Mud and snow (spinning wheels)
6) Larger wheels/Tires (30" Mudzillas)
7) Towing
8) Tracks
I personally appreciate my 1000cc for all these reasons.
And, when using tracks in snow, at altitude (9000'+), climbing steep sustained grades, even more than 1000cc would be appreciated, as would a cooler running geared transmission.
I'll give you tracks, big tires, and 2up power if you're into that kinda thing.. But I'd trust a Grizzly on any hill over any other 4x4 ATV
The Can Am does NOT have a shorter wheelbase

51.0" Can Am

@@DirtObseXXion probably not. 20 years from now can am and Polaris will have 2k cc atv’s and Yamaha will just keep cranking out 700’s lol.

Our 2023 grizzly has plenty of power
If Yamaha did do a 1000cc atv I honestly think that it would take over the market. Simply because it would be 100 times more reliable than anything else out there.
True.. It would be pretty dang expensive though..
Brute force 1000 hell yeah
