    I’ve been doing a ton of research and thanks to your reviews I’ve settled on the Grizzly…and great news for me my closest Yamaha dealer is giving me $1500 off on a ‘23 Grizzly SE so I’ll take that as a win. Love the videos!

    Im a first time atv owner and went with the 2023 Grizzly xtr based on watching your guy's videos and reviews. I appreciate it a lot! I live in western north Carolina and not one dealer close to my area could even get the grizzlies. Had to go to Middlesboro Kentucky to get it and that dealership had four of the xtr's. Been out on two different trail systems with it, drug piles of brush and pulled my trailer and wood splitter around with it. Loving it!

    1. the amount of work that went into this is amazing. Setting up the rider shots, editing and voice over most people don't understand how time consuming it all is.
    2. That engineer went into all of the history and didn't mention once their choices in implementing bold new colors.
    3. Always riding in 4x4 is a good idea. I am still struggling with having the balls to power over and get the ass loose in 4x4. I do know these things handle way worse in 2wd. But once you get comfortable with it, it really opens up your ability to ride more aggressive and get faster lap times.
    4. The cvt transmission was invented before the internal combustion engine and was first implemented in the early 1900's. The belt warranty has more to do with the improvements in material qualities than any sort of engineering. Plus when you make 30hp to the wheels it's not difficult to keep belt temps and stress under control.
    5. Finally... I'm calling bs with their "you peasants don't need more power" explanation. I suspect that their very political and borderline insulting explanation has more to do with emissions or the investment in tooling/assembly line. So let's be honest they're not listening to customers. How do I know? Because every review on the grizz the reviwer has to "explain to the peasants" why the atv doesn't need... more power. As far as the comment about chopping the throttle all day? More powerful atv's have adjustable electronic throttles. This is why I unsubscried from Dirt Trax. It's just a big commercial for sxs anymore.
    This looked like a blast. I think I need to visit Colorado soon. Any additional footage on the trails coming?

    • @DirtObseXXion
      @DirtObseXXion  ปีที่แล้ว

      Pheeeew.. I think I just got my a$$ handed to me.. But I have a few rebuttals... First, thanks man, this did take a lot of work, and as you know, I work full time and do this on the side, so I sincerely appreciate the acknowledgment..
      The CVT, centrifugal vs flyweight and oil bathed, although there's a little sacrifice to low end pop, it's fairly maintenance free and reliable which is what most people are looking for.. That brings to my next point, you're not a common or average rider, or even in the target demographic for this machine.. You're a racer who practices at improving your ability and measures that improvement in seconds...
      I was in no way obligated to Yamaha say anything in this narrative. But these reviews are prepared for our target audience which happens to be the same demographic Yamaha designs the Grizzly for.. Recreational trail riders who want a capable, reliable and fun machine to take out on weekend getaways.. So when I spoke about power, the intention wasn't to be condescending, it was only to explain that there's more to being able to ride on a trail at a spirited pace than top end.. If you need to make a pass in a field section of a GNCC race, the Grizzly isn't going to be the weapon of choice.. But if a 50something yr old fella who only gets out a couple times of year wants a machine that will let him ride for 3 days, have a ton of fun, and not have to wrench on a machine after the ride.. The Grizzly is perfect for that.. I completely understand racers need more power, not that it does much in the woods, but obviously there are sections of the track where you need it.
      Unfortunately, racing just doesn't move ATV sales the way it did in the 80s. So Yamaha building something that directly competes with the Renegade probably isn't happening.. Any way, I knew this video wasn't going to make you happy 🙃 but I'll hit you up on IG regarding our other conversation..

    Great video as always. Im a Can Am guy but I do own a 22 Grizzly 700 XTR. The more I ride it the more I like it. I understand your point about over powered machines as I prefer my XTP 850 over my XTP 1000…but I do think that Yamaha offering a v-twin 850 is a good idea. Why not? Keep the 700 the way it is and add something to the lineup, call it the Power Bruin or something like that. I understand that engineering a new ATV is not as simple or as cheap as I’m suggesting but I have confidence in Yamaha.

    • @DirtObseXXion
      @DirtObseXXion  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes exaclty! I just did a test ride for ATVonDemand Saturday on the XT-P 1000.. It's a great machine but there's just way more motor than chassis.. In most trail scenarios I feel faster on a Grizzly because of the weight and handling, and definitely more confident. CanAm is my big bore of choice though.. They really knock those XTP and XXC Outtys out of the park... I think Yamaha's decision not to do an 850 comes down to a few things. 1. I don't think the balance of the Grizz 700 could possibly translate to a twin. and 2. I don't Yamaha asses the market a viable enough to support R&D and production of just one twin.

    • @firewoodblake1243
      @firewoodblake1243 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The latter is the deciding factor in my opinion. However, if they were going to engineer a v-twin ATV I imagine they would make a 850 and a 1000, they already mass produce both motors..but economics rule the day, always has, always will. The only way I see it happening is a nosedive in the SXS market, forcing companies to redirect resources back to the ride on segment.

    Great video. For the first time in my life (and always a dream of mine) I'm going to own 2 atv's, meaning I'm going to purchase another one to go with my current 2020 Honda Rubicon 520 DCT Deluxe. I'm going to keep that Honda for a long time, but the second/other quad will be the one I will probably only keep for 3-5 years before upgrading. I loved my 2011 Grizzly 700 EPS that was stolen from me. I've had more Polaris ATV's than anything else, and I've waited and waited on Yamaha to come out with something else other than the 700. I'm still hoping they do something with their 2024 Grizzlys. I guess I always will. But if they don't, I just want a regular GREEN Grizzly 700 like the 2020 version. The last 3 years they have all kinds of funky/weird looking color options. I know you like those type of choices, but I'm more of a regular guy who just likes a good green/camo version. And their camo's having the black at the top of the headlight pod vs how they used to have camo on the headlight pod... I'm just not a fan of how they have that now. So I'll happily get a 2024 Grizz 700 if they just give us back some of the normal color choices! If not I may go used or look elsewhere. Maybe one day they'll surprise us with some more power. But it's still my favorite quad of all time at the moment.

On the colors side of things, my other thought is that if you aren't going to give us a 750/800/850 or higher motor, then at least have some regular color choices for us who will stick with a 700. They haven't done that for 3 straight years now. Hope they change that and give us some regular color choices for 2024

    So many head to head reviews out there keep pushing people towards the Can-Am or even Polaris... it's got more power, it's got more travel, its cheaper... this review hopefully helps some people understand that none of that is paramount when you ACTUALLY HIT THE TRAILS.. riding a 1000 twin on those trails would be a bit ridiculous, jumping from corner to corner, praying you don't clip a tree or sidewall your tires on a rock poking out of the trail wall. To each his own, but the Grizzly is the right balance for this type of riding, that's why it hasn't changed much in 20+ years.. "if its not broken don't fix it". They've made the improvements at a calculated pace to make sure its always going to be the Grizzly you expect and that's a win in my book. The biggest advantages Yamaha holds in this category.. the best transmission on the market, the best EPS system (they invented it), the best reliability, and a true locking 4x4 system, when I want all 4 spinning, I want all dang 4 spinning, I don't want a complex system of oil and clutches to decide what tires need traction and when.. push a button and its locked.. period. Excellent video Dirt XX!! keep em' coming!

    • @DirtObseXXion
      @DirtObseXXion  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      No, not Way easier.. In theory it would technically be easier but in reality it doesn't feel tippy because the 27s are also wide in front. So there's some reduced steering radius and push from the front end, but I never felt like the 27s were tippy.. I personally will always prefer a smaller tire

    Awesome show as usual , I do love the styling of the Grizzly !! I do have a question on tires. Did you get a chance to ride the Grizz with the 28"grim reapers and if so, how do they compare to ,lets say the " Big horn 2.0's or The ITP Terracross tires? I ask this because I currently have the big horn 2.0's on my 2017 Polaris Sportsman 850 SP (26" ) and also run the Terracross's on my 2018 Polaris Sportsman 570 SP. I'm looking to get new tires on my 850 and have been looking for a good alternative to those 2 tires as I feel those have been pretty good for "all around" use. I am also considering replacing one of my Sportsman 570's with a Grizzly and after watching this I think I may be persuaded 🙂 It's coming down to a NEW sportsman 570, the Grizzly and the new Can am 700 ?? Decisions, decisions 🤔 First world problems 😝

    • @DirtObseXXion
      @DirtObseXXion  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lol! I hear you, and that's a great question! I did get a chance to try the Reapers and Yamaha made a great choice on those for the terrain.. They went with 8ply 28" for the sidewall size and strength and I think they'd be a great option especially on an 850. I'd personally go smaller and lighter like a 25 or 26" 6ply because I like the machine to feel lower and save on weight.. But in this terrain, I'd compare the Reapers most closely with the Terracross.. The tread design is a little more directional, which I like, and it has the consistent contact line in the center which I believe contributes to good handling feel. I like trying a lot of different tires and if I wanted tires that big, I'd consider the Reapers a really good option... Im just not sure that they come smaller than 27"...

      @@jakemccann2790Yes, it was a Subaru engine, built in the Subaru small engine division that Yamaha bought and now owns shortly after striking the deal with them. It is the exact same engine. Most parts are interchangeable. The only difference is the actual displacement. Being 708 versus 686. Same horsepower. Same torque. To look at the two engines are virtually the same. There was a slight manufacturing issue with the rings at first that was mostly sorted out by the 2018 year. Most of the problems with burning oil or in 2016 and a few of the early 2017 models. Other than that it's the same 700 Yamaha engine. It wasn't disastrous. The majority of the engines have zero problems. Typically the only issues you're hearing about are the few guys that had it that go online. Looking for answers and complaining. Anyone that has zero issues with it usually don't go online saying so. Im assuming that when the gear ratio was changed in 2019, which coincided with the first SE model that had the Zillas, and also the return to the Yamaha 686cc motor, was that all Grizzlies have the lowered gearing.. In our comparison we put 25s on a XTR and it felt identical to the base model with 26s.. So if they are different it's negligible.. • @DirtObseXXion
      @DirtObseXXion  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      It's hard to say exactly what it should cost because with a used machine, it depends A LOT on how it was owned. But, I'll do my best. It's 5 model years old which really doesn't matter much because it's unchanged. 2500 miles isn't a ton depending on the miles (hard riding or mud would be a negative). I'd say with that mileage, if it's perfect, I'd want to be in the neighborhood 7000-7500 tops. That's assuming it's in really good shape. I'd go a little more if it had some extras that I wanted i.e. skid plate, winch, ect. Just keep in mind that the tires will easily be $400-500 and if you're into it for 8k that's getting on the high side in my opinion.. Leave a little budget room for unanticipated fixes. The Grizzly is as reliable as they come but but under certain riding conditions, that mileage could have you replacing some wearable items relatively soon (wheel bearings, ball joints, that kind of thing).

    Maybe Yamaha will come out with a 108hp Grizzly 1000 with an electronically controlled Ultramatic CVT, a locking torque converter rather than a wet clutch, fully adjustable suspension...no, make that electronic active suspension (like polaris dynamix), throttle by wire with multiple power settings, RMAX 1000 front styling, and a can am inspired gauge cluster rather than a light pod.

      They didn't actually rip thousands of people off with the 708 Yamaha fully honors repairing the 708 for free. They have actually even done it past the expiration date of that offer. Not only that, but it didn't affect all. The 708's was very limited more than 2016, a few in early 2017 and very very few in 2018. But out of the hundreds of thousands of those 708 engines they sold, you only hear about a few from the people that went on the forums and stuff complaining about them. You don't hear anyone going on bragging about the ones that didn't have issues because there's no reason to. So the problem is not anywhere near as large as what it seems. When you only hear one side of the story, you obviously don't know the whole story.
