Bro thats insane! I actually remember leaving that comment ages ago and thinking nothing of it and here we both are. At the time I remember I had < 2K subs aswell. Nuts!
The Brotherhood's biggest mistake in the Commonwealth was putting so much faith in their "air superiority". They seem to primarily use their vertibirds as forward assult instead of rapid transport.
Vertibirds are their only transports in Fo4 apart from Prydwyn itself.?? We see old pre war apc's lying around at military check points etc. You think they might of utilised , repaired them and put them back into service, but no? Also couple twin turret - cannon tanks lying around. Gunners seem to of acquisitioned. My question is, if devs took time to create for game. Why not allow for usage in game. Time and game engine constraints again??. Have to give cred and say though. Flying overhead in a vertibird, dodging random fire from the ground, spraying and annihilating enemies with the mounted mini gun is a fucking rush I've never experienced before in Fallout in any game. Its super cool , something they definitely got right in Fo4. Something they need to stick with at least as far as BoS missions and hopefully expand on with other cool add ons later maybe.
@@colddaze6680 where are you really gonna drive a vehicle in Fo4? Most roads are too bumpy or are destroyed, the urban areas are filled with debris and vehicle remains, the highways are broken and often have huge gaps or holes, not to mention how they'd have to balance it. If you can drive a APC around, some enemies are gonna have to drive a APC around. What happens if you end up going late game and are forced to carry around a explosive weapon just for armored vehicles? What about fuel consumption? They showed with PA having a extremely limited duration with a single FC and the pieces being able to easily break that they're willing to sacrifice lore for gameplay reasons, so they'd find a way to make vehicles extremely limited in both fuel and durability, not to mention they'd have to design a map that makes both on-foot combat and vehicle combat feel nice, they'd also have to make AI pathfinding with said vehicles good, since vertibirds from FO4 will crash into buildings randomly, and they often over or under-shoot their target, leaving their gunmen without a way to fire at the targets on the ground. They'd have to keep a way for vehicles to not be extremely broken late game with thousands upon thousands of hit points whilst also making the fuel and durability enough to warrant their inclusion and map work. If vehicles are underpowered, the map being changed for cars to fit is gonna be a negative. If they do it well, positive and now cars would probably be a staple of the franchise. If it's overpowered, people are going to do nothing but complain about the addition of them. It would be a delicately done immense amount of work for something not a ton of people are asking for, and would completely alter the gameplay of the next game, for the better or worse if it was added.
@@twiztedmind209 well shit.. you really thought this one out yeah. Maybe devs could take some of your advice. Btw ,well APC's and tanks were built to travel ,traverse rough terrain in warzones ... so there's that.
It’s really fascinating that there is so much information about the aircrafts of Fallout, it’s really cool that there is so much detail in these games!
The P-80 can be explained by looking at it’s trainer variant, the T-33. In our world, they were used for decades after their official retirement in the USAF. It was apparently a fun aircraft to fly. Many base commanders found ways to keep one or two around for joyriding/proficiency training. The Air Force had to make a major effort in the late ‘80s to track down and retire them. So, it would fit that the aircraft at Rivet City could have been exhibits on the carrier. The airframes seen at Andrews and the one that crashed in Point Lookout would easily fit in as retained older models for training/joyriding.
Fallout has always had that feeling that it's a how people in 1950-1970's view the future. You can see it by Television being small, black and white, car designs still being those form 1960-1980 but updated to look futuristic so it wouldn't be far off for the Army to also be using crafts that seem old to us but is actually normally used and advance for those in Fallout.
Sure, but in the case of the fighter jet, this is literally a post-WW2 era design, nothing futuristic about it. Bethesda seems to not understand this difference, between retro and retrofuture. It’s why half the “prewar” guns in Fallout 4 look like end-of-WW2 German homemade guns. For example, the Combat Rifle looks extremely crude and roughly welded together just like the Nazi German People’s Storm Rifle- which also happens to be in Fallout 4 as the “Radium Rifle.” The Combat Rifle design is partially based on the USSR’s PPSH sub machinegun, but somehow the “futuristic” Fallout gun looks like it’s 2 decades older and was made in a garage. To say nothing of the Assault Rifle, which looks like a WW1 machinegun. If 90% of actual WW2 guns (M1 Garand, Mosin, etc) look like they’re higher quality than the “retro-future” guns, something is wrong… I’m almost surprised the Minutemen weren’t using ACTUAL black powder muskets with some duct-tape and funky looking “futuristic” stocks. 😂 To be retro-future, there must actually be something futuristic in the design…
@@QualityPen For guns I think they over exaggerated the gap between firearms and energy weapons. It seems like they wanted to emphasise Directed Energy Weapons being modern and Fireams being obsolete and old *but* they took it way too far and the firearms are far too old fashioned.
@@QualityPen true enough , Fallout 4 took a serious back step with ballistic weapons.. Theres a whole vid breaking it down how much of a cluster fuck Fo4 ballistic arsenal is. Apart from the mini gun. Well he says real mini guns should not have to ' spin up" before they fire. But I was thinking its a unique touch to Fallout mini guns, sounds kind of cool when they spin up n down anyways. Also he says power armour was for pre war soldiers to be able to effectively carry and fire heavy mounted machine guns. Though you can carry them without using power armour . He also says the assault rifle in Fo4 is a ridiculous contraption that would not even work irl. Another fair call. He obviously knows his guns. I'm no gun expert, though I know the ballistic guns in Fo.N.V were far more realistic looking and handling. The M1 Garand ,and the Survivalists assault rifle were my favourite. Cleanest actions and most powerful and accurate for their calibre. Fo4 weapons were regressive looking, with the assault rifle looking like a WWI machine gun and the combat rifle ,shotgun looking like a direct rip of the USSR WW2 made PPSH sub machine gun. These guns were regressive looking ,definitely not retro futuristic. And the bolt actions being made for left handers, which was a ridiculous oversight in Fo4 . Bethesda would of been far better off using a collection of Fo3 and F.N.V arsenal for ballistic weapons. While the gun modding options were cool in Fo4. Most the ballistic guns were just cluster fuck ridiculous.
As someone who sees aircraft MANY many times, sometimes they travel north and YET sometimes south, yup I'm the guru of aircraft I mean MAN I SEE. Them flying so anyway based on my massive CV I approve of this report
My theory for the Shooting Stars is that they are kept as museum pieces and used in limited-service reconnaissance service, similarly to how the Hawker-Siddely Nimrods were used by the Royal Navy even when the original design was 70 years old, and Lockheed Constellation derivatives are still used to this day in limited service by some militaries. 100+ years is a really long time but it’s not much more than we have seen in real life, and in a resource-starved war torn world I can see it happening, and there’s nothing to disprove the fact that the remaining planes could just be reconnaissance planes or museum pieces. I can also understand the C-47 cargo plane, it’s derived from the DC-3, which remains in active service all over the world despite the design nearly dating back 100 years, and many people who use them say that “the only replacement for a DC-3 is another DC-3.” It’s possible to me that the design really was so useful that it remains in service even in the 2070s.
its presumed since the DC-3 is in FNV in a working condition, and that mccaran airport is an NCR military base that the NCR military is operating those C-46s, this wouldnt be too far fetched since J.S did state the NCR was using jeeps and shermans on mass by FNV.
The section that you were looking at on the Vertibird Bear Force One and calling a door probably was only an access panel for use in maintenance. The 'oval' sections you mentioned after, the one with wires leading to it, are more than likely the actual access hatches themselves, with the wires leading to electromagnetic locks or, otherwise, some more 'normal' locking mechanism or motor mechanism that would allow the pilots to open the doors without getting up. In fact, at time 11:42 when you show the view of the outside, it's fairly clear. The section on the right side of the oval is the hinge, and the section on the bottom is more than likely a set of steps that rotate down to make entry and exit easier.
I would propose that the oval on the driver side of the vertebird is actually an optional gunnery station and the wires headed to the door is a plug-in point for something like a Gatling laser hence the reason that there's the smaller door within the door
@@DAR10162 while you could use it as a secondary gunnery door I don't think it is a door in a door rather it is a door in a doorframe. look at the inside view of the door at 12:02. I don't see any gaps, do you? except for the one between your door inside the door?
I can offer some insight for the pilot chairs, on Chieftain Tanks the driver position has a similar space problem. So they made the seat fold back until its flat to allow the driver to enter and exit the seat.
Yep. A lot of modern jets require the pilots to climb over the seats to get in. Also, the large ovoids are the entrance hatches, those hatches behind the wings are access panels. It's where the character spawns in when entering the aircraft.
I have to agree with rivet city being a dry docked aircraft carrier. Maybe even a museum that gave tours. Also love the close up on the Chinese aircraft, that one was new to me.
The aircraft of Fallout have always been my favorite. I am fascinated by aeronautial designs so this is a great fit. Also, I think your characters backstory, at this point, is you met a very familar black power armor clad Brotherhooder. Aka, the storyteller. You basically are a child of atom version of him, and its great. Keep up the good work!
11:25 one possible explanation is that the seats lean back. If you look at the back of the bottom half and the bottom of the back half you can see there’s enough space for it to recline, maybe to get in and out, they recline the chairs then incline them back when ready to fly.
I hope in the next fallout game we see the Chinese fighter, maybe they make it look like the yak 15, and see a sci Fi version of the f86 sabre, maybe with reverse swept wings
@@GOWvMatchstick Fallout 1 and 2 were just as goofy and comic book-like, they just leaned mega hard towards the super dark and desolate vibe at the same time
@@M50A1. Seriously, though; Fallout 2 in particular was beyond goofy with all of the pop culture references and stupid scenarios the game tosses at you on a regular basis, though it's still not Brotherhood of Steel level of cheese.
Whatever it is, it’ll surely look a hell of a lot like US tech. Some things never change, I guarantee that even in the Fallout universe, China is still stealing our designs.
In regards to the stingray’s potential for spaceflight, the models found in the games could just be atmospheric versions. There could be another model built specifically for operations in a vacuum.
I'm pretty sure those big oval things with the wires running to it on the interior you brought up are the doors to get in or out. The faction logo is printed on the doors exterior face for reference of its placement.
The fact that you don't have like a million subscribers downright sucks you deserve all the love and more. Such great effort in all of your videos and they are all gems more people should know about you
For the shooting star a few things, Due to the fallout alternate timeline the shooting starts may have stayed in military service longer. And Liked by servicemen and stayed for training purposes. Many may have been upgraded instead of being phased out. Possibly kept for Air National guard and or kept in military reserve service as backups just in case to be issued in a hurry if the US went to war and needed immediate backups or to field additional units we didn’t have. The same thing could be said about many firearms in military service where a stockpile of older guns and gear is kept just in case typically for National guard units that tend to not have top of the line gear but use older equipment previously pulled from frontline service. Your theory of the Aircraft carrier in River City having been a historical museum is definitely possible, except I would expect to see different kinds of military airplanes. I personally got to see the USS Enterprise Museum ship in New York City (Not the Star Trek One, lol) the Enterprise is a former aircraft carrier that is used as a historical museum with a ton of various military aircraft on board, including the other USS Enterprise (The Real Space Shuttle)
Hello my Brother in Atom. I have located a aircraft I haven't seen anyone cover. In Vernon Square, a location in Fallout 3 you'll find a small creater truley bathed in the almighty glow of Atom. It contains a mostly intact US fighter jet of some kind, with its nose section open for viewing.
11:45 A lot of modern jets have this type of cockpit seating. The large oval shapes are the entrance hatches; the rear ones you pointed at are access panels for the aircraft systems. The "Broken Steel" addon shows this along with some online artwork and even a Fallout 3 Mod.
think remastering old videos is a great idea! you not only get to update them with more/new information, but also get to see the improvements you've made since you started. i still remember the first video i saw from you, where the top comment was something like "your mic sounds like you're talking out of a power armor suit. nice video tho" and it always makes me laugh thinking about it. very glad i didn't care about mic quality and stuck with you, as your videos are some of the best Fallout lore videos on youtube in my opinion!
Yes! I was really hoping for this! Out of your much older videos, this is one that absolutely deserved to be looked at again, especially because the quality of your videos are way better now. Hope to see more reworks of the videos on Fallout's vehicles.
I just want to thank you for feeding my need for Fallout info, and for giving me and my friend something new to talk about! I hope you have a wonderful day!
my headcannon for the vertibirds on top of whitesprings is that it is a earlier civilian model that comes unarmed or minimally armed in the case of vertibots the bos found a cache of them with all their t45 armor and upgunned them for the trip to the commonwealth. the ones in new vegas and three are armored combat assault ones and the ones in 2 are some kind of enclave offshoot that have been changed in some way.
Just spitballing a theory here but just as the POTUS in our timeline has the VH-60N “White Hawk” helicopters, the POTUS in Fallout may have used a specialized transport Vertibird as well. It only makes sense that the US in Fallout would redesign one of their most widely used forms of military transport for executive transport. The thing is that there wouldn’t have been anyone to use it, though, since the Boston Bugle’s “White House Remains Empty” article seems to allege that all the decision makers skipped town to the Poseidon oil rig. Considering Eckhart was Enclave, and the extensive safety features a “White Top” Vertibird would likely have (like EMP hardening), it’s likely that he simply commandeered it as an assured way to get to safety. Plus, if anyone asked, he could merely say “POTUS’ orders,” and that would be that since the President was virtually uncontactable to confirm/deny it.
I think your theory about the shooting star being a plane that was intended to train new pilots is canon as seen in Fallout:New Vegas in the Nellis Boomer museum the Painting has the simulation pods and a drawing of flying shooting stars!
I love radking's lore and fallout content. I love the learning about the lore and find it to be a cure to my insomnia. Listening about a radioactive wasteland is somehow calming. Keep it up!
Awesome idea! Looking forward to your fresh take on previous videos! Gonna be nice to have the comments section at the end too, now that you have a community! 😊
JP-5 is an actual type of fuel, we use it in the U.S military and it's got a different name when used throughout NATO counties. Just a cool idea that the name continued after being changed.
I absolutely loved this format. I have been looking for someone to look through topics with such depth that there are few questions left to ask about canon lore and a few head cannons to help smooth out rough edges caused by a series being 20 years old. Personally I would enjoy seeing more of this type of content 😊 Great video
36:32 JP-5 (JP stands for Jet Propulsion) is a specific formulation of kerosene-based jet fuel that's commonly used by military aircraft, especially in naval applications (by contrast, Air Forces generally use JP-8 instead).
@@hanzzel6086 Not necessarily. Fallout being as Atompunk as it is, it's quite likely that there is still a nuclear reactor in the thing anyway, albeit only as an onboard "battery". Beyond that however, I'd just as soon chalk it up to another case of buzzword techno-babble that sounds cool from a distance but otherwise makes no sense to those familiar with the terminology.
Great Video, but there is also a Flying Car which was added in Fallout 76. You can find it at the Sugarmaple Villa and at the Garrahan Estate Mega Mansion, even though they don't fly there. You can easily recognize them by the missing tires.
I hope this doesnt sound mean but I really love using your videos to go to sleep. There's something about your voice that just makes me knock out lol I do enjoy your videos a lot though (when im not tired)!
It's funny you mention the 300 year old B29 repair. Not exactly multiple centuries, but an F4F was just restored to flyable condition after sitting underwater for nearly a century.
I have actually been wanting you to do this. Some of your early videos have great topics, but you can clearly see the quality difference between them and your newer videos. So please make more remasters
35:53 The Helian plane is very reminiscent of space planes, like concepts similar to the X-37 military space plane or the NASA/Boeing X-48. The Dreamchaser spacecraft from NASA (the NASA HL planes) are the best fit, I think these could be it!
Thank you for all this amazing fallout lore! It is admirable the way you are bringing Atoms light to the masses. Goodluck brother, and may atoms light guide you ever onward
18:21 I think in Fallout 2 they imply that vertibirds use fuel, that would make sense since the places the Enclave choose as bases were an oil rig and a gas station.
I like both versions of of your aircraft videos, this just gave an opportunity for a another dose. P-80: After watching this video I decided to do some research on the P-80s and its variants. The training variant of the P-80, the T-33, was available in a carrier version with folding wings that was used by the US Navy in real life. Additionally, after the T-33s were finally retired some of them were sold into private civilian ownership. Among these owners is Fallout alumn Michael Dorn. There is the issue that the trainer is a two seat model (as a training plane should be) and the ones in the game are single seat. But that could explained away as an (in universe) after market conversion kit modification to make it look more the fighter. Pull the second seat out and the kit would extend the fuselage to cover over the second seat position and plug the gap caused by replacing the two seat canopy with the shorter single seat version. This could set a scenario where some if not most of the P-80s we see in Fallout 3 may have come from private collections. Such planes or entire collections would have been passed on to inheritors or sold to other collectors over the generations until we start getting to the 2070's. At some point a "request for donations" for P-80s is made for the museum ship. How voluntary this request would been is story for another day. Your head canon theory about about maybe the P-80s being trainers that have been modernized updated sounds good at first but runs into the same problem that it ran into in real life. The most advanced variant of P-80 ever made was the Boeing Skyfox trainer. It was available either direct from the factory or as conversion kits for customer's T-33s. It was to cost half as much as new comparable jet trainers of the time and the operating cost was half that of the T-33. This was a result of swapping out the single internal turbojet engine with a pair of newer external turbofans. The new engines combined weight was only 83% of the original. They also had 60% more thrust and used 45% less fuel. The body was reshaped to remove the no longer needed air intakes, and the space used for the original engine was used as a fuel tank. It even still supported the wingtip tanks if the user wanted even more range. They never sold a single one due to lack of interest. The training aircraft path for a fighter pilot would be prop plane trainer -> jet trainer -> trainer version of the fighter type they are going to be assigned to. If an air force wanted a cheaper trainer they would go with a ( maybe higher performance?) prop plane; if they wanted a more advanced trainer they would buy a more a more advanced trainer that were already available. There is also the issue that as your jet fighters become more advanced your jet trainers can not afford to fall too far behind in technology or else they will not be effective trainers. Example, Imagine a person signs up for a video editing class. When they get to class they learn that they are going to be training on 1950's video and film editing equipment. Not a terribly useful class for a person trying to learn to edit video in this century. Now imagine a modern military recruit going through basic training but instead of being trained with modern military rifle (AK-47 or newer) they are being trained with a 1700s style musket. Now imagine they have graduated to advanced combat training (they would have never made it past rifle qualification but lets ignore that) and they now have to use a modern military rifle. How much of that musket training would have taught the recruit to use a modern rifle. None. It would not have taught the recruit to check the safety because the musket did not have one. It would have not taught the user to aim because muskets did not have sights. It would not have taught them to safely unload a rifle because there was no way to do it with a musket. The recruit would have to be retrained on a modern rifle to be able to use it which would have invalidated the musket training they previously had. Sometimes old military tech is just old tech that no longer serves a purpose in a modern military. Biplanes: It may be possible that the biplanes in Fallout 76 are not original but either factory reproductions or kit planes. If they are newer designs their engines may even be electric instead of internal combustion engines. I am not well versed in Fallout 76 so I do not know it airport is shown having fuel storage or not. If it does it could be explained as being legally required even if all the planes that normally land their are electric. It would be inconvenient for both the airport and ICE plane owner to have the plane stuck there do to lack of fuel. Also mandatory fuel at all airports would also create additional reserves for military aircraft to potentially use. Nuclear Planes: When comparing real life nuclear planes to their Fallout counterparts the real life ones were limited to nuclear fission reactors where the Fallout ones had fusion reactors to give them the power to be viable. Also if you get the time check out the video: Could today's US produce masses of fighters like it did in WW2? Its both deep and approachable. Its not Fallout but still makes for good research material in Fallout discussions theories about US military aviation production.
As a soon to be mechanical engineer (starting Masters in 9 months!) and with experience in aeronautics, I can give some insight on this field hopefully. Also I absolutely love fictional super huge/insane plane concepts, there's something awe-inspiring about monumentality in sci-fi engineering projects that makes me dream.. Even if I know it'd be a nightmare to be part of such projects lol, there's aren't exactly practical. Here's lots of info discussing aspects of the FO4/76 jetliners: The giant jetliners found crashed in the terrain of FO4 are not technically feasible as far as I can see. The structure would be too heavy for the lifting capacity, and with engine efficiency it's not making it any easier. Area increases with the square of size scaling, while volume (mass) increases with the cube. Bigger means heavier, and I say that even when taking into account the increase in structural strength and lift area. Little clarification on engine types: a turbofan engine is one where the fan encased in the front housing is the propeller, this is actually what creates the thrust. On the other hand, a turboprop is the same except there's a big ole prop creating the thrust, said prop is way bigger than the case. Turbofan engines go much faster, that's why they are used on country-scale and long flights but they're not as efficient as props. Turboprops are significantly more efficient because of their higher bypass ratios (more air is pushed for thrust). However they are significantly slower than turbofan (speed limited to keep the tip subsonic as far as I know). Turboprops are only really used on regional flights when it comes to passengers. TurboJET engines are the engines used in fighter jets. They are HELLA powerful and enable aircrafts to go very fast, but they burn through fuel at an alarming rate compared to the two previous types ($$$$, no-go for sustained commercial use, also as far as I know). I can't really see us getting the power required to lift these Fallout monsters with turbofan engines in a practical way. Even today, the efficiency of airplane engines starts to drop when scaling them to the level of Boeing 747 size. IDK how ridiculously profitable the air transport passenger market is in Fallout, but I'll go with IRL state of affair for fuel efficiency. To not throw money out the window with these fictional giant liners, super efficient engines would be required, so I don't expect turbofan to be a good choice. Heck, even with props, I feel like it'd be worth it to full-send on giga R&D projects to get large scale open rotor engines o_o (contra rotating turboprops). These are better than traditional prop engines because two consecutive stages give higher compression ratios. It's like the increased efficiency of two stage axial air compressors VS one stage. Lastly, as cool as it is to have glass as the leading edge of the flying wing 'airfoil', I think there's no way this would be airworthy. With the best polymer/glass laminate, I think to pass bird impact tests it would be ridiculously thick and bulky. I think anyways this part of the wing is structurally critical, even composite planes retained metal leading edges, so with a polymer or glass it looks like a no-no maybe. Oh oh also, with the complete model image we can see the landing gear. Did you know that modern landing gears, whilst made out of titanium alloys, they are at the LIMIT of their strength. I cannot FATHOM how HUGE and _heavy_ landing gears would need to be for the gargantuan mass of the jetliner. Man I love your content, a deep dive in the Fallout universe is both entertaining and makes my imagination run wild. I'm hyped for your heavy equipment video!
Simpler explanation for the jet fighter is the divergence after all their computers are leagues behind ours it also could have been that naval and land warfare became a bigger focus in the war with China causing air technology to lag behind
You should definitely remaster your old content. I love your stuff and i play it while i workout or game, so audio quality helps and ur newest mic has improved your content so much. I would love if those older videos were remastered. Keep up the work 🤙🏻 this is my favorite video series
I agree, the F-80E ( As I’ve nicknamed it ) would most likely be a deal where at one point it was sorta like the real world F-4, which was utilized by the USAF and the USN. The ones on river city were obviously part on the USN museum as for they would surely not be operating combat aircraft over or in such close radius to large residential areas. The one in point lookout I’m fairly sure is a USN aircraft as I think it’s mentioned in the black box recording. And as for the ones in the hangar at Adams Air Force base, I’d say it’s safe to assume that they’re trainers. It’s mentioned somewhere that in FNV that all the fighters and bombers at Nellis AFB were scrambled during the Great War so that’s why none are present there and would explain why none were at Adams AFB because they were just trainers and not active combat aircraft.
First I'd like to say that I think remastering your old content is a wonderful idea. and Second, I've seen arguments that the large nodes set behind the cockpit of the Fallout 3 and NV vertibird is actually the door. when you're inside you can actually see a small step leading up to the round panel and the cables could simply be electrical conduits for the auto open/locking function.
As someone who’s been binging these videos for the sake of working on a fallout based tabletop rpg, remakes are an amazing choice. I always click off when I hit an older video because the microphone quality is jarring and the formula is a little different. Definitely would like to see more
12:00 those are the door from inside view of the craft. The fact they're bulged so far out makes me think the armor is rather t h i c c Also the pilot seats seem like they can fold down to almost resting position.
3:55 The Vertbird seen at the Whitesprings Bunker may simply be the Fallout equivalent of Marine One or some other designation of on-hand transport craft for the Presidential Cabinet's use at the time of the Great Wars occurrence. Considering it's placement, I think it's likely that it was used to transport someone like the SoI, SoA, or SoT to Whitesprings Bunker before being abandoned during the ensuing atomic detonations. It might have even been transporting members of Congress looking to make their way into the Bunker before they and the flight crew were shot for being non-Enclave. The Appalachian Enclave overall lack of Vertibirds of the like seen at Raven Rock or PR-002 might be because Whitesprings was a safehouse, not a proper military installation.
To me it seems like the 'assault vertibird' Is meant to act similar to the original mi24. A attack helicopter that could also serve in a transport role.
2:58 I think it’s more likely that the new version is just the VB02, since the X designation is often used for prototypes, and the enclave probably would have developed it further, since the prototype probably wasn’t ready for full service yet (2085 is still 8 more years then 2077) wich would explain why we don’t See any in 76
40:45 I thought it was a DC-10. The tail engine is somewhere in Megaton and if you look at a side to side with the DC-10 and the L-1011 there’s a clear difference I hope I’m right but if I’m not it’s still a trijet somewhere in Megaton lol
It looks more like a DC cockpit, but upon further inspection the tail engine is identical to the tristar’s. Seems more like a hybrid of multiple real designs like how GTA designs their aircraft
@@pizzaluvah198 Oh yeah! But! I recently started a fallout 3 playthrough and I can confirm that it is indeed a Lockheed L-1011. I was tweaking for a bit. The S-Duct in the tail is prevalent in the entrance above the door, and it’s different than the DC-10, because that has a bit of space underneath the vertical stabilizer. Cool to hear you work near them though!
11:30 taking knowledge from a Lear 31, they either step onto the seat then put their legs into where the rudders pedals are, or just step over completely getting their feet infront of the seat. I’m also assuming the seats and slide back and forth to 1: allow the pilots in and out 2: so a shorter pilot can move the seat up and he can reach the rudder pedals
I don't know if you were counting space ships but the hubologists in fo2 have a space shuttle that the chosen one can get fuel for aswell as the zetan space ships and Xerxo's "spaceship" from fo76. Another great vid always
@11:30 the interior design is actually pretty pretty standard for military vehicles. No room. It's not unusual for someone to have to crawl over and around equipment in military vehicles. The inside also makes it appear as though there is a back ramp that opens. Which would be useful for flying in and dropping a squad of power armored soldiers in a combat zone without having to land.
Could the Zion Canyon one have been a forest fire jump crew plane? I remember the C47 being used a bit by them and seeing it in a national park also just makes me think of those purposes
The F-80s actually look a little closer to F-94s to my eye. But in either case, these are definitely not real Navy planes since the Navy was only interested in twin engine jets until the F-8 was adopted for service.
Oh, one really cool side note. Have a look just above the cockpits on the Vertibirds. See that backward facing fin? Thats a feature they added to the Huey to cut cables and powerlines so as to prevent them from fouling up the rotors.. I thought that would be an interesting thing to point out. Great on the devs for small details!
"Why is an aircraft that's over 100 years old found on an aircraft carrier, an airbase, and crashed into a point lookout bog?" Probably the same reason there's a pistol that's 100 years old and still in service: Because it works. No point reinventing the wheel when you got it right the first time, ya know?
Definitely hope in the next game we get not only a more detailed wasteland, but also much more lore behind certain things like aircraft. I refuse to believe the ICBMs were the only things used during the GW; so crashed Red Chinese or American aircraft other than the few examples (of American craft) that we’ve seen would be cool.
i mean there is “the one” in new vegas that is not a warhead it’s a big ass bomb dropped from a plane and so is the one in megaton, the only warheads i remember seeing are in the divide
@@firstnameiii7270 We can *infer* that ICBMs were used, as the Switchboard mentioned “birds in the air”, or something to that effect which translates to ICBMs being launched; at least to my understanding. Yes, there is the air dropped ordinance in Megaton, The One, which I thought was a Wild Wasteland encounter; and then you have the bomb factory/storage base in F3 as well pointing to conventional drop nukes. Again though, I’m under the impression that ICBMs were the main backbone of the nations involved in the GW. It’s just more than likely the case, despite no *clear* indications of missiles, other than the Yangtze, and in the Divide. As I’ve mentioned in other places, lots of lore *could* be established and speculation curtailed, if Bethesda would allow fans to write and profit off of books, graphic novels, etc. sadly that won’t happen; so the best we can do is provide conjecture back and forth till we fade to dust.
11:17 In the original design probably was a door, but in game and then after broken steel they mix the concept (probably by mistake) But i always thought that the real doors were the oval shapes on the sides, and that other "door" its probably an electrical or motor access panel. Similar discrepancies happen with the gunner windows in the interior/exterior of the APC in Fo4
My favorite aspect of Power Armor is how you can leap out of aircraft like a Space marine iron rain Imagine seeing 8 dudes in the Power Armor LAND on the ground in a crater of smoke and light up with them minis
whoa! itsjabo is a Fallout speedrunner that's been gaining a lot of popularity in recent times, i believe that he focuses on more "niche" records like All Achievements and 100%. he's even held a few world records at certain points. i was just watching his Video-Essays playlist last night so it's incredibly neat to see that HE was the first person to comment on your content. honestly? kind of cute. fallout nerds... fallout nerds never change....
17:44 Orlando is a they, not a he. When talking to every other NPC from the Pitt Expedition update, everyone always refers to Orlando using "they". Interesting enough, they are the 2nd non-binary character in the Fallout series, the other being Burke from the Fallout 76 dlc, Steel Dawn
@Svenskanorden 1 are you sure about that? People's gender identities don't just dissappear in disasters. During 9/11, people didn't just get rid of their pronouns. In every other Fallout game, people have their own gender identities, and this is no exception
11:42 They are obviously doors. You state that you can't see any doors in the interior then completely ignore every obvious sign that they are doors. Graphical limitations means there are no handles.
I think the Vertibird being able to use alternate types of fuel is just a reference to military equipment being able to use different types of fuel. There are multiple 5-tons trucks ranging from now back to WW2 that ran off diesel, but could also use gasoline, low-octane aircraft fuel, certain types of jet fuel, kerosene, heating oil or standard gasoline at a lower efficiency. But you're correct. They don't seem to use any sort of nuclear power. Its implied in New Vegas by Daisy Whitman that they use a traditional fuel source. So, a battery conversion would be stretching it.
Another reason the P80 could be prevalent is the resource wars. Afaik we don't know when nuclear powered engines rolled out. So maybe the US just thought using updated p80s and c47s for that matter was a good use of resources till that breakthrough came about.
Makes sense, could also be the reason why we see the troops in operation anchorage using the G3 assault rifles and other weapons from this time in that dlc, there wasnt enough reasources for more high tech stuff like lazer and plasma rifles.
28:55 I was always under the impression that the one you recover from the water was used to put together the broken down museum one they have in the Hangar before the mission, recovering what working parts they could and putting them into the clean one they had. So it always sorta made sense to me, as much as Fallout can make sense... I dunno.
Rad king,, sir ,, at the very beginning of the video,, ( time line stamp 1:06) your character is standing inside the broken aircraft forwards nose section,, looking back at the open tail end section.. what you may not have really realized,, is that huge aluminum crate behind you is actually a smuggling container for the aircraft lines employees. Who were involved with secret smuggling operations prior to the war. Looking closer at the container.. you can find a hidden door hatch.. and inside,, it’s jam packed with randomly generated loot,, that is probably based opon your current level in game.. ❤😊❤😊❤
Fun fact: While no working nuclear jets were made a nuclear rocket engine was made & test fired in real life. It was intended for several uses within the planned NASA integrated program for many different things including a mars landing in 1978. However it never saw flight due to the 1970s budget cuts.
YEEEEEEEEEESSSS VEHICLES (Me being annoying): Hey you could also make a "Spaceships of fallout" like the Delta IX Rocket. Fun theory-ish: The Delta IX is actually the best argument for the Vault Tec, the Enclave or something like this started the war (For me at least). All Delta IXs were transformed in atomic weapons for the USA and you can found one crashed and obviously undetonated Delta IX rocket in Washington DC. Because is an American weapon, for me at least, is a better "smoking gun" than an atomic bomb with a symbol that *looks like* an vault tec logo

As an aerospace engineer, the seats could slide back so the pilots can get in. It's a fairly common feature in commercial aircraft nowadays.
Cool, like car seats can slide back or forward.
As a person who is not an aerospace engineer I think this is cool 😎

Same thing with some sports cars. It's how you access the back seats.

The Brotherhood's biggest mistake in the Commonwealth was putting so much faith in their "air superiority". They seem to primarily use their vertibirds as forward assult instead of rapid transport.
Vertibirds,.. easy to shoot down killing the occupants so their stuff can be collected and sold.
You could not for the sake of the lord have a conversation in F4 without a vertibird crash either near or in hearing distance.
You have no idea..
Please note that the plural of aircraft is aircraft, not aircrafts.
Now if there was only some more info on the trains.
I wish we got a bit more of flying in FO3, FONV, F04 and FO76 plus maybe fixed wing like the Stingray.
@@thequietstag4366 indeed.
If 90% of actual WW2 guns (M1 Garand, Mosin, etc) look like they’re higher quality than the “retro-future” guns, something is wrong…
I’m almost surprised the Minutemen weren’t using ACTUAL black powder muskets with some duct-tape and funky looking “futuristic” stocks. 😂
To be retro-future, there must actually be something futuristic in the design…
And the bolt actions being made for left handers, which was a ridiculous oversight in Fo4

I can also understand the C-47 cargo plane, it’s derived from the DC-3, which remains in active service all over the world despite the design nearly dating back 100 years, and many people who use them say that “the only replacement for a DC-3 is another DC-3.” It’s possible to me that the design really was so useful that it remains in service even in the 2070s.
it would also line up with the crashed plane being on a CAP flight when it crashed.
its presumed since the DC-3 is in FNV in a working condition, and that mccaran airport is an NCR military base that the NCR military is operating those C-46s, this wouldnt be too far fetched since J.S did state the NCR was using jeeps and shermans on mass by FNV.

You guys have great ideas and correct my mistakes, so I think it’s only appropriate to get the good info out!

11:37
It looks like the back of the seats are on a hinge. So they may fold back to allow the pilot to slide in.
That is how a lot of cramped Tank drivers seats solve a similar issue so I'd second that suggestion.
I'd third it.
22:28 the jet liner could also be based around the concept plane "Flying V" which places all passenger seats inside the wings
Oh man, watching the guns and plasma weapons remastered will be a joy.
Use to watch storyteller all the time, somehow can across rad king a few weeks ago and I love being able to delve back into fallout lore and such.
11:25 one possible explanation is that the seats lean back. If you look at the back of the bottom half and the bottom of the back half you can see there’s enough space for it to recline, maybe to get in and out, they recline the chairs then incline them back when ready to fly.
Or they stand on the seat and sit down. See a chinook helicopter cockpit, you just get into your seat. If its awkward ... tough.
I hope in the next fallout game we see the Chinese fighter, maybe they make it look like the yak 15, and see a sci Fi version of the f86 sabre, maybe with reverse swept wings

26:36 these are probably used to provide airflow to the radiators for the oil cooling system, it’s a common design feature in 1940’s aircraft
A lot of mods and ports of vertibirds to other games use that space as a door a lot

For the shooting star a few things,
Due to the fallout alternate timeline the shooting starts may have stayed in military service longer.

11:31 I would say they get in and out of the seats by reclining the back of the seats and then climbing in or out of the seat via the reclined back
my headcannon for the vertibirds on top of whitesprings is that it is a earlier civilian model that comes unarmed or minimally armed in the case of vertibots the bos found a cache of them with all their t45 armor and upgunned them for the trip to the commonwealth. the ones in new vegas and three are armored combat assault ones and the ones in 2 are some kind of enclave offshoot that have been changed in some way.
Remember headcanon is best Canon.
I think your theory about the shooting star being a plane that was intended to train new pilots is canon as seen in Fallout:New Vegas in the Nellis Boomer museum the Painting has the simulation pods and a drawing of flying shooting stars!

JP-5 is an actual type of fuel, we use it in the U.S military and it's got a different name when used throughout NATO counties. Just a cool idea that the name continued after being changed.
I absolutely loved this format.
Which really conflicts with it being stated as nuclear powered.
@@hanzzel6086 Not necessarily. Fallout being as Atompunk as it is, it's quite likely that there is still a nuclear reactor in the thing anyway, albeit only as an onboard "battery".

Thank you for all this amazing fallout lore! It is admirable the way you are bringing Atoms light to the masses. Goodluck brother, and may atoms light guide you ever onward
I like your idea of the shooting stars being trainers, though I like to think the the 50’s have been swapped for lasers.
18:21 I think in Fallout 2 they imply that vertibirds use fuel, that would make sense since the places the Enclave choose as bases were an oil rig and a gas station.
I like both versions of of your aircraft videos, this just gave an opportunity for a another dose.
P-80:
After watching this video I decided to do some research on the P-80s and its variants.
Example,
Imagine a person signs up for a video editing class.
Biplanes:
It may be possible that the biplanes in Fallout 76 are not original but either factory reproductions or kit planes.
Nuclear Planes:
When comparing real life nuclear planes to their Fallout counterparts the real life ones were limited to nuclear fission reactors where the Fallout ones had fusion reactors to give them the power to be viable.
Also if you get the time check out the video: Could today's US produce masses of fighters like it did in WW2?
Its both deep and approachable. Its not Fallout but still makes for good research material in Fallout discussions theories about US military aviation production.
Worf?!
@@Dong_Harvey Yes. And Marcus. And Frank Horrigan. Good thing he also has a bigger plane. His T-33 would be a tight fit for all of them.
The "jet-liner" is more of a modern Junkers G.38 (or its creator's craziest "wet dream" the J1000), merged with the Northrop YB-49.
Here's lots of info discussing aspects of the FO4/76 jetliners:
The giant jetliners found crashed in the terrain of FO4 are not technically feasible as far as I can see.
The fact they're bulged so far out makes me think the armor is rather t h i c c
Also the pilot seats seem like they can fold down to almost resting position.
This truly is a fallout channel. We are already getting the remastered editions! lol
(yes this needs to become a meme somehow)
I’m brave enough to do what Godd Howard won’t.
@@Rad_King true innovation! lol
11:25 like Sudo Nim said, they could slide back. Or, like the B-52 cockpit, you just hang your head and awkwardly contort yourself in.
The tail engine is somewhere in Megaton and if you look at a side to side with the DC-10 and the L-1011 there’s a clear difference
I hope I’m right but if I’m not it’s still a trijet somewhere in Megaton lol
I’m also assuming the seats and slide back and forth to 1: allow the pilots in and out 2: so a shorter pilot can move the seat up and he can reach the rudder pedals
really enjoy your content. and defiantly prefer the remastered version.
I don't know if you were counting space ships but the hubologists in fo2 have a space shuttle that the chosen one can get fuel for aswell as the zetan space ships and Xerxo's "spaceship" from fo76. Another great vid always
I enjoy the newest render. It looks like a bent version of the Blackhawk front with a pair of domes on the sides.
I love these plz keep making them they always brighten up my day
PLEASE do a video abt the paranormal/supernatural/magic/wacky/alien elements of fallout. would be really interesting.
You're awesome, I was hoping you'd do a remaster of the old videos, thank you so much m8.
Welcome!
"Why is an aircraft that's over 100 years old found on an aircraft carrier, an airbase, and crashed into a point lookout bog?"
Probably the same reason there's a pistol that's 100 years old and still in service: Because it works. No point reinventing the wheel when you got it right the first time, ya know?
These remastered videos are such a good idea. I love it
Definitely hope in the next game we get not only a more detailed wasteland, but also much more lore behind certain things like aircraft.
You've managed to become the only fallout channel that I've ever subbed to. Ironically most of the other channels I've seen are too... Preachy
Synonymous is fairly good too.
Please do more remasters!!!
My favorite aspect of Power Armor is how you can leap out of aircraft like a Space marine iron rain
Imagine seeing 8 dudes in the Power Armor LAND on the ground in a crater of smoke and light up with them minis
The codex astartes call this maneuver STEEL RAIN!

whoa! itsjabo is a Fallout speedrunner that's been gaining a lot of popularity in recent times, i believe that he focuses on more "niche" records like All Achievements and 100%. he's even held a few world records at certain points. i was just watching his Video-Essays playlist last night so it's incredibly neat to see that HE was the first person to comment on your content. honestly? kind of cute. fallout nerds... fallout nerds never change....
@Svenskanorden 1. Source: Wikipedia.
I came here to make the same comment lol
That’s probably why there’s a museum on the ship in rivet city with a label “museum”
The turn up the rads cracked me up. Automatic sub! Love the content
11:42 They are obviously doors. You state that you can't see any doors in the interior then completely ignore every obvious sign that they are doors. Graphical limitations means there are no handles.
So gald I found this channel. Quickly becoming one of my favorites!
The "oval" at 12:01 is the door on the Vertibird, even has steps to climb out
16:35 the brotherhood marking on them could all so mean they were too lazy to remove them.
36:32 JP5 is a fuel that's actually used in aircraft today, mainly by the Navy.
Fun fact:
While no working nuclear jets were made a nuclear rocket engine was made & test fired in real life. It was intended for several uses within the planned NASA integrated program for many different things including a mars landing in 1978. However it never saw flight due to the 1970s budget cuts.
YEEEEEEEEEESSSS VEHICLES
(Me being annoying): Hey you could also make a "Spaceships of fallout" like the Delta IX Rocket.
The Chinese aircraft reminds me of the F-82 twin mustang 31:14
I think more of the he111z
