    The first thought that came to mind for me for spacing was using the little pizza box spacers that some delivery companies use so the box doesn't flatten onto the pizza.

    A little late for a comment but if you use the regular solo cups their design allows you to just twist the top cup to create about a 1 inch void in the bottom cup. This allows more room for roots to grow. You can still put the pebble between the cups for the initial watering but raise the cup as the roots grow. I use this method in a flood and drain system so they are self watering.

    What happens when you plant the plants normally without the hydroponic feed? Will it just grow slower and less ? Also , if you start with this feed as the plants are young, when you finally plant them in pots outside in the sun, will the plant suddenly be in shock when it realises it no longer has this constant feed of nutrients?

    Hey Khang! I know it’s an older video, but have you ever tried the double-cup method with 2 five gallon buckets for bigger plants like tomato’s and peppers? If so, how did it work out? I’m thinking of trying an experiment so that during the cold months here in Canada we can start pepper plants indoors much earlier and so there will be a lot of room for growth throughout a season. The concept/idea originally came from you, but also in parallel with an idea sparked by a recent video by Ashley at ‘Gardening in Canada’ channel. Thanks! 😀

    Question, were growing chili pequin seeds that we took off our wild plant in South Texas and some of the new plants are growing very well and others they seem to be stuck at a real small baby size. Do you think it might be a quality of the seed we used? Are some seeds stronger or more apt to grow than others? Why do you think some of the plants are growing better than the others? Any info would be helpful Thanks for your time and we really enjoy your videos.

    Hi Khang, another great video series, thoroughly enjoy watching! I am growing several varieties of peppers (kratky method supplemented with a Chili-specific liquid fertilizer). Plants were doing fine for first 5-6 weeks but now the leaves have developed rust-colored "freckles" on the leaves. Any insight as to how to correct this? My plants are grown indoors with optimal lighting conditions and I change the water weekly or biweekly. Thanks in advance!

    • @KhangStarr
      @KhangStarr  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It could be due to improper pH. Do you check to see if it's between the range of 5.9 - 6.5? Any higher than that the plants will stress.

    Hi Khang! Thank you for posting these fantastic videos! They have helped me immensely. I have a question that you don't address. Is it ok for the roots to be hanging down into a empty cup for a day or so if the soil in the bottom of the cup is moist, or should I always keep some liquid in the bottom of the cup?

    • @KhangStarr
      @KhangStarr  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, they can hang for a day, but the longer you allow that, the roots will dry out and die back. Mine usually drink up all the nutrients, then go dry for a whole day before I feed them again.

    • @goofayoo
      @goofayoo 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    +Khang Starr sorry this is probably a stupid question but with the double cup method, how does that help you water less when there are no roots sticking through the cut outs yet? If you fill that bottom area with water it will seep into the soil only until the water level drops just below the soil/bottom of the upper cup and then it would just sit there no???
    I ask as is your last video you said it would be better to have a larger area between the two cups but how would that help at all? Especially when you and others say to transplant once the roots do start sticking out of the cut outs.?

    • @KhangStarr
      @KhangStarr  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You water from the top and leave a little water in the reservoir. Roots will grow downward into the second cup eventually. You don't transplant right away. You'll allow the plants to grow a little before transplanting. There are more videos in this series so keep watching and see my progress.

      The nutrients is to feed the plants from the bottom, only use very little. The soil need to still be moist in the center of the cup. Moist but more dry than wet if that make sense.

      I run mine 10 hours a day. In my opinion, 24 hours a day is just a waste of electricity. Mimicking mother nature is always best. During the nights, many plants actually switch focus on fighting pests and diseases.

      Yes, the heat mat is on all the time with the lights.

    i just transplanted into the solo cup but geez how do you get the roots to go so deep?

    • @KhangStarr
      @KhangStarr  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Peppers grow very deep roots when the soil is soft. Keep watching this series and see the details I covered.

    What kind of hydroponic mix or brand do you use?

  • @aliceedwards3053

    And how deep are your cups? And you said you are watering from the top but when I do that they get The dampening off fungus why is that if you know please ?

    • @KhangStarr
      @KhangStarr  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's probably because the soil does not have good drainage. If the water collect in the cup without running off, it's bad for the plants. I usually add perlite to my cups as I have shown in video 1. Only keep the soil most, never too wet.

    What do ground cherries taste like? I wanted to grow some but I'm growing tomatillos instead.

      They smell amazing, taste like a mango with a hint of pineapple. It's like eating sugar.

    Khang, my plants have been drinking the water up within a day and I think my light makes it evaporate as well. How can I fix this problem?

    • @KhangStarr
      @KhangStarr  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When they drink this much water, it means it's time to give them a larger home. Put them in larger pots if you can.

      Landon Jones Yeah man, most hydro nutrients are soil and hydro based. I use Flora Series mate so I just follow the guides on the bottle :-)

    Hello ! New pepper grower over here 👋🏽 just a quick question sometimes I find a little mold in the top of my soil how do I get rid of that ?? Even if I water a little it’s still there :(

    • @KhangStarr
      @KhangStarr  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Mold is usually caused by too much moisture and not enough air flow. Reduce watering and circulate some air using a fan.

    How do I keep my plants alive after taking the plastic bag of, my plants just dies directly.

    • @KhangStarr
      @KhangStarr  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As soon as they sprout, you should remove the bag. If you have the bag on too long and the plants are already grown, you need to ease them into your lights. The leaves are very sensitive so slowly expose 30 minutes to an hour, then gradually move up.
