Daze with Jordan the lion both brothers Johnny and Donnie are actually here in Gatlinburg right now they was supposed to be in the Gatlinburg Christmas parade but that got cancelled because of the rain but i did see a post where they was at the Alamo steak house they had dinner at kind of was really hoping to been able to see them in the parade such a shame Gatlinburg cancelled it though as I was saying me being a local it is still nice of them to hang out around town as well and hey I enjoy the content you put up and it's just funny figure of speech that both are in town and you come out with this amazing video and the stories from Gene as well was really nice to hear but it is cool how nice you are and how you click with everyone and how comfortable you make them feel and how they open up to you as well.
Gene is a real good ole boy. He was truly blessed to survive that horrible crash so that the legacy and the life of the members of Lynyrd Skynyrd who perished, his beloved friends, will live on through him. He is truly the custodian of their memory.
Well something has happened to his OWN memory because Gary, Bob and Larry Junstrom ALREADY had a little band called "You Me and Him" after the baseball incident Ronnie joined THEM. This make it hard for me to believe his version of the plane crash now.
Wow, what a sad moment when Gene thought he was going to see Ronnie... Dude, I love all your West coast vlogs but this Florida stuff so far is a breath of fresh air 🤘🤘
North Florida is great! Jacksonville has some rough parts but so does every town. If you really want to get the feel of what Florida was like before the snowbirds took over visit north Florida, Jacksonville, Gainesville and the small towns all across there into the panhandle. Places where there's still true Florida crackers.
Great job Daze! Gene Odom has to be the greatest Lynyrd Skynyrd historian ever! I appreciate all his knowledge, his honesty, but especially his respect to Judy and everyone else involved. He could have used the opportunity like others have to tell more, true or false (trash) just to beef up a story but won’t do that. I found him very humble (a great quality to have) praising others instead of his self. Thank you Gene for all you do in keeping LS alive and helping us fans to know more!!
Gene is a lovely man. Ronnie's family sound like a nice family. Such a sad story far too young. Sounds like Ronnie was very responsible young man. Their house is nice . So sad he never got the chance to watch his kids grow up. All of them were far too young to pass. Graveyards are common for stealing items. Disgusting to steal from the dead. Wonderful heart felt tribute Jordan.
I have heard bits and pieces of Lynyrd Skynyrd for years, but never in detail like this. Jordan you have a way of interviewing that surpasses a lot of folks.
Jordan, you are definitely a master interviewer. These Gene Odom stories are like gold to me. Highlights were riding the bamboo and recognition of Judy’s great contribution to the band. The bonus of seeing the Hell House site was amazing.
Damn Jordan,.......you just have a way of making people feel comfortable talking to you,......and the access you have to these interesting people, stories, and sites is unreal. Kudos to you for another outstanding video.
Jordan, you are so kind and sweet to Gene...I love how you interview people. You can tell Gene loved telling his stories to you. Thank you for another awesome video :)
Gene, thank you for sharing your memories. Too many of those "close" to Ronnie have not stepped up to the plate. For far too long the fans have existed on a diet of "where the name came from," crash details, and how a few songs were written. There is far more to know from the mundane to interesting, which you have the kindness and guts to share. Thank you.
Mr. Odom is an honest good friend to Ronnie Van Zant and the Van Zant family God bless him always and you speak the truth God Only Knows Why Artemis morning to make that movie I don't think the movie honors anyone in any way just my opinion
At 13:43 Gene says Ronnie hated to fly. And Ronnie dies in a plane crash. Damn that was hard to take when he said that. Gene seems like a good old boy. I’m sure he and Ronnie had a good time growing up.
I'm sorry for your fear. Just remember when you fly, buckle up, wear a good helmet, and make sure you have fire retardant clothing on and by all means carry a fire extinguisher just make sure it's strapped on you real well. Practice getting into crash position, do this at least twice a day (put your head between your knees alot to get flexibility) and please stay safe for flying is never fun especially if you plan on crashing alot. Stay strong 💪 my friend.
I totally agree and I'm sure the loss of Ronnie really hit him hard and deep. May they all rest in peace and many thanks to all of them for all of the wonderful songs that they created. Not that it's my business but I have heard that Judy still makes money off of Lynyrd Skynyrd to this day, and I also read online in several websites that supposedly Ronnie had divorce papers in his manager's briefcase who also unfortunately lost his life as well and I read that Ronnie was going to present her with the papers when he returned back home and it sounded very truthful but I can't swear by it so if anyone knows please shed some light on that.
This makes the music even more relatable if possible. I have grew up in the south and have know a few folks who could be in the middle of a sentence, stop to admire a car, and then go right back to what they were talking about. Love just listening to the stories
When you hear Gene say , it was back in 1969 cause I got " drafted " then it immediately took me back to our generation not anyone would ever experience being drafted since ....
I’m new to the channel and it’s great to see you in my hometown. Right now I’m living in Korea after living in Italy for the past 8 years. But I said all that to say this. It’s good to see home and I enjoy your vlog a lot. I’ve learned new things about my hometown.
Lakeshore has changed a bit. Ive driven by the house a few times. The lil blue car usually there. On the plus side off Woodcrest ( Ronnie's street ) they're building new homes... Old with the new. I know there is a story about that corner store at Lakeshore and Plymouth... Not sure what.. But Im sure Mr. Gene would know. Its so crazy to think...Ronnie would be 72 yrs old today.... I grew up in Holiday Hill/Grove Park on Southside....in 60s..70s.... Did you see Lynyrd Skynyrd play at Friendship Fountain?? We did... Didnt know who they were other than friends of my sisters and her friends back then. Being a kid... I called them Long haired Hippy Guys when they came to our house once!! 🤣🤣 Embarrassed my older sister they all came to visit... Fun times..... Great music...
You are an excellent interviewer, Jordan! Thank you (and Gene) for sharing Ronnie Van Zant's history with us. So sad and disrespectful about the grave robber disturbing his casket. But otherwise, absolutely, positively AWESOME on every level!!!
What a treat to see the house that Ronnie grew up in... Love the fireplace and the wood paneling...If he was alive today, I can picture him shooting pool in the rec room. Too bad " Chomp" didn't make a guest appearance by the Hell House location... That would have been a bonus. Poor Bob Burns... Love to hear Gene tell his stories. Thanks again Jordan☺💝🎆
you watch enough Gene videos and he always remembers new little secrets about his best friend. tell he really misses his fishin buddy. "Don't Ask Me No Questions"
Great job Jordan! There’s a few videos on TH-cam with fans and Lacy at a house. They said he’d invite you in and tell stories about Ronnie. Lacy seemed like a genuine sweet man!
Thank you for a great vlog and thanks to Gene too. I was lucky enough to see the band in Glasgow in 1976. Ronnie didn't move much but his stage presence was amazing. They were really great and the balcony of the Glasgow Apollo, which "bounced" was really bouncing that night. LS totally rocked Glasgow and we loved them for it!!
Genes success in life was having the pleasure of not only knowing Ronnie Van Zant but having been able to spend some of the 29 short years together as friends....how many of us can say that (?) I don't blame Artemus for lying because I was a hippy too and when you party that much your mind recalls things differently when you were high, as your experiences occurred ! Gene was straight laced . Not only the simple man but lucky man as well. Wish I knew Ronnie too. God bless you Gene, someday you will meet with Ronnie again ....hopefully not too soon ! ; )
Bless your heart. This was so amazing. Mr. Gene has sad eyes, even through his lenses. I can’t imagine how the horrific passing of his best friend still effects him today. I hope he gets a lot of good traffic and sells a lot of merchandise. He needs to make a trip to Tuscaloosa, I’m sure he would have a lot of buyers. God bless him with peace. And you...Jordan the Lion...bravo, sir. I’m going to applaud and appreciate you for your amazing vlog of the Kings Palace in my birthplace! I’ve been to Graceland and it’s breathtaking. One suggestion you should vlog the National Civil Rights Museum when you go back to Memphis, the place where another King went into judgment.
Great vlog Jordan. I've watched everyone of your vlogs, this has to be my favorite cause if how much love I've got for Skynyrd..Simple Man is my favorite song of All time. Love that Gene was in the video and his knowledge of the band. I can hear his stories all day.
Gene Odom best man I know to ask about Lynyrd Skynyrd and anything about Ronnie Van Zant love this man thank you for giving him respect such a great man may God bless him
I sure do feel stupid! I always thought Lynyrd Skynyrd was more of an 80’s band. Can Zant was only 5 years younger than my Dad and 2 years younger than my Mom. This was a great vlog, lots of good history! Great job as always! Keep on being you! 🐾❤️
Thank you Jordan! What a treat! Ronnie Van Zant and the rest of the band will alway have a warm spot in my heart they were a big part of my teens and early twenties of musical influences. God bless Gene his stories are priceless. Blessing to you to Jordan thanks again. WOW
I remember being at the Volunteer Jam in 1987. It had rained almost all day. But no one cared. We had made the trip to Starwood to see Skynyrd. I went to the merch tent to get my shirts. Gene was hanging out , his book hadn't been out long. But he was talking to everyone, I really felt the love he had for Ronnie when he talked about him. Gene signed my book & told me he hoped I enjoyed it. He was really sweet. I did enjoy reading about his time with Skynyrd.
Thank you for another fantastic vlog about Lynyrd Skynyrd, Mr. Jordan! I'll have to get a shirt from Gene! I remember Ronnie's grave getting broken into, right after I moved here from WI. Very sad. However, I'm so glad that he and the others are in a great cemetery, now. Skynyrd fans here in Jax salute you, sir!
I’m building a guitar from wood from the Hell House original Dock, and foundation from Hell House, and incorporating metal from the plane. Once it’s complete we will loan it out to touring musicians so those timber’s will continue to sing and vibrate. LLLS. Long Live Lynyrd Skynyrd..
❤️❤️❤️at work in the lab we listen to classic rock and on Fridays they play Freebird a few times a day and whenever it comes on we yell FREEBIRD FRIDAY!!!🤣🤣🤣
It's sad to hear that Gene didn't know Ronnie had past. These stories are full of sweet and bittersweet parts. Thanks to you and Gene for sharing these wonderful stories with us all. I hope all that past are at peace. It makes me sad to think of those who are gone. But we have the wonderful music/songs to listen to to get at little closer to them. Thanks Jordan for the wonderful vlogs. Stay safe, Take care and God bless. Fly Free.
Thank you for another Vlog with Gene and his amazing and heartbreaking stories. From now on when I listen to Lynyrd Skynyrd I will picture these places. Thank you for the link and awesome shirts Gene.
God Bless Gene for giving us this amazing info. I really appreciate you taking the time and going out of your way to make this possible. These memories will live on forever. Much respect.
More Gene , how awesome. Even more great insight of his time with them and what changes were going to be made if the crash hadn't happened . Thanks again Jordan and Gene.
Oh wow! Loved this video. I used to party with good old boys like them down in Alabama. We were all about the music. To honor the late band members we played Freebird at every party out there in the woods with speakers taller than the pickup trucks! The 70s were epic!!!
The first name of the band was. My Backyard, then One Percent and then they settled on Lynyrd Skynyrd. It's on my bucket list to go to Florida then the crash site then the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. All of the original members are all Gone but never forgotten. Long Live Lynyrd Skynyrd
I still remember that day. Have you all listened to Ronnie's daughter song Free Bird Child still makes me cry 😢 Thanks Jordan for doing this Vlog they were a great part of my history
Lacy Vanzant was my good friend. I stayed at this house when Lacy lived there. He had a trophy room with all the records on the wall and memorabilia. The living room he is showing you were Lacy's trophy room. Where the pool table , was Lacy's living room. He told me one time when I was standing in the doorway of the kitchen and the now pool table room Lacy said to me."Right, where you are standing is the last place I seen Ronnie VanZant stand. He said Dad when I get back from the road I will build you a home anywhere you want it, on a lake, at the beach you name it.
My great grandparents are buried right across from the Van Zants about 2 rows across that little street. Leon Wilkeson, long time Skynyrd bassist is hiring directly across from the Van Zants as well.
Jordan really nice work continuing the Lynyrd Skynyrd visit it was a joy hanging with Gene and what a bunch of stories he must have . Love that Shirt !
There is something about people in the South are so easy to talk to...thank you very good work and video. Makes us all realize life is short. Do what you have to..and live best life you can.
Thank you Gene for this helping make this video. I remember the Hell House. I had a friend Pat a few years younger than I that knew some of the guys that worked with the band. He and I lived south of Fruit Cove off SR13 and had met Gary when he lived on the river. Pat use to come wake me up sometimes around 2am to take him out to Hell House to go fishin. I'd drive him out there and drop him off or stay and fish awhile. I remember there was always someone there at the house. This was between 1978 to 1982. These memories of things that has to do with Skynyrd I hold close to my heart.
I really appreciate you doing this video for us all to see and hear. For years I have been wanting to know the down low on everything so now I do, I know it's the truth because Gene told the story. Thanks Gene
Gene is great. Excellent interview. Interesting to find out Ronnie hated flying, considering, and man, that must have been a heavy moment when Gene's girlfriend pulled into the cemetery instead of going to Ronnie's house. 😢
Wow! Another great Jordan the Lion 🦁 video!!! Love this. The backstory from Gene on the mushrooms incident were very interesting, good to hear the truth from an insider. Thanks again! Love this and sharing!
Another great video, Jordan! You do such a great job with the way you tell the stories in your videos. In this case, Gene was the one telling the story, and what an awesome story it was, and for him to show you the Van Zant house, and their old stomping grounds. You truly are blessed to be able to do what you obviously absolutely love for a living. How many of us can actually say that? Your videos are great, and I am always looking forward to your next one. When are we going to see JAH again? I miss seeing the lil guy. His name is my initials by the way haha.
Thank you Jordan , I know you filmed this quite a while ago, but it is still so FANTASTIC, that people who may never be able to go, otherwise we'd never see this footage. ❤Thanks..... I'm gettn old , I remember now watching all this , I guess Garry's passing away , has me watching skynrd stuff.....

Totally awesome tour by Gene. Thank you for posting this video.
Fly Free.
First I EVER heard ronnie wanted to fire artimus Pyle. Wonder what ole artimus say about that
Thank you for another Vlog with Gene and his amazing and heartbreaking stories. From now on when I listen to Lynyrd Skynyrd I will picture these places. Thank you for the link and awesome shirts Gene.
The first album really feels like the soundtrack of Jacksonville to me..
@@DazewithJordantheLion thank you for the suggestion and yes I agree . I have to get a full version of the album to hear them all.
Gene is a nice guy! You can see why Ronnie liked him and Trusted Him!
Great tour...thank you Jordan and Gene.
Oh wow! Loved this video. I used to party with good old boys like them down in Alabama. We were all about the music. To honor the late band members we played Freebird at every party out there in the woods with speakers taller than the pickup trucks! The 70s were epic!!!
Cool video i know the area very well.the juggs right by flordia paint company and i lived many years right there on park st on cedar creek .
Can’t put it any better...what “tony tony” said!! Fantastic! 🤠
Great Stuff ! Gene is humble and needed a mic - way 2 B !
Just watched I'll Never Forget You....thank you Gene for sharing your story. God Bless you
Lacy Vanzant was my good friend.
Dang john......did you know Ronnie?
My great grandparents are buried right across from the Van Zants about 2 rows across that little street. Leon Wilkeson, long time Skynyrd bassist is hiring directly across from the Van Zants as well.
Buried*
I didn't know you know anything about Lynyrd Skynyrd I'm glad you like them because they're my favorite southern rock and roll band.
Get well soon,Gene.
I really appreciate you doing this video for us all to see and hear. For years I have been wanting to know the down low on everything so now I do, I know it's the truth because Gene told the story. Thanks Gene
Soo cool! Don't believe there is a bigger fan than myself!!
Thank you Jordan for sharing with us. I truly enjoyed his story he was great story person
Gene is great. Excellent interview. Interesting to find out Ronnie hated flying, considering, and man, that must have been a heavy moment when Gene's girlfriend pulled into the cemetery instead of going to Ronnie's house. 😢
Great Blog. Not a big fan of Lynyrd Skynrd but found it very interesting. Gene was very informative , Well done as always !!!!!
Wow! Another great Jordan the Lion 🦁 video!!! Love this. The backstory from Gene on the mushrooms incident were very interesting, good to hear the truth from an insider. Thanks again! Love this and sharing!
That vlog was so interesting Jordan thankyou enjoyed it so much x
Another great video, Jordan! You do such a great job with the way you tell the stories in your videos. In this case, Gene was the one telling the story, and what an awesome story it was, and for him to show you the Van Zant house, and their old stomping grounds. You truly are blessed to be able to do what you obviously absolutely love for a living. How many of us can actually say that? Your videos are great, and I am always looking forward to your next one. When are we going to see JAH again? I miss seeing the lil guy. His name is my initials by the way haha.
This is an amazing home. This house produced three singers. Johnny Van Zant, Ronnie Van Zant, and Donnie Van Zant. Johnny is Ronnie’s little brother.
