  • Masters Relay - 4.1km, 16 controls - 6th place w/ Monique and Paul
New map on Tuna Nui Farm, Hawkes Bay - typical NZ countryside - grass, hills, mud and cows. Pretty steep and tough - especially on Day 4 of races.
Brief shot of the Elite grades starting off - didn't include footage of the guy coming back because he forgot to Clear and Check :) He got a good cheer.

Was that really an orienteering race? :) Just took a quick look at current orienteering rules. >>The Relay... takes place in a non-urban (mostly forested)
environment. The format is built on a technically demanding concept, more similar to the
concept of the Middle than the Long distance. Some elements characteristic of the Long
distance, like longer, route-choice legs should occur, allowing competitors to pass each
other without making contact. Good Relay terrain has characteristics that make runners lose eye contact with each other (such as denser vegetation, many hills/depressions etc.). Terrain
with continuous good visibility is not suitable for the Relay

Guntars, you raise as good point - that I can't answer to be honest - I would welcome anyone elses opinion. While the map was fairly hilly, as you say, visibility was quite good and you could see other runners. I found the orienteering relatively easy, but the terrain quite challenging.
