I was following your sobriety channel for quite some time, and I watch a good amount of fragrance YT, so it was a pleasant surprise to see this suggested in my recommended! Awesome to see you branching out.
Mass appealing yes, High quality ingredients? i don't think so. They're well blended. Not one PDM/Initio has any REAL oud. i'd wager its probably even Firmenich/Givaudan. I'd say dior or hermes probably get better or same ingredients.
@@tjpfz6 Natural ingredients are not necessarily a sign of quality. Natural ingredients can be better, but they also limit the perfumers. Natural ingredients have more side tones, the fragrance character changes more quickly due to natural degradation processes and some of the most important modern components for fragrances, Iso-E-super, Ambroxan etc. only exist synthetically. Houses like MfK only work with synthetic ingredients and their fragrances are also very good. And as for the oud: most PdM fragrances have no oud notes. If you want real oud, probably nobody thinks of PdM and PdM is not known for its oud fragrances.
I like how you drew similarities between fragrances, artistic designs and music. I’ve always viewed fragrances as an accessory to serve the purpose of enhancing an outfit, matching an environment or conveying a mood. I’ve felt that people out and about wouldn’t be able to pick out certain notes of a niche fragrance, so wearing something that’s consensus likeable and high quality would be the most pleasant smell for those around me, something PdM does well. You’re completely right with your music analogy that while you might think something is the epitome of art and others might find it okay, the exact same thinking can be applied to fragrances
For me Layton is the best everyday fragrance for fall i had ever tested. It's like Dior Sauvage EDP version but with ultra settings 4K resolution and 144 fps xD And Sedley just one of my favourites for summer and hot days. I had never smelled something like this before, it's just smells like Sprite or 7up and girls really love this. And owner of PDM also owner of Initio which creates soooooo good fragrances and they know what to do. After you tested Side Effect, Narcotic delight or Oud of greatness there is no road back But in my country i payed 350$ for 125ml Layton which is crazy, but i love this scent and especially apple note And yes, there is no amouage
Yeah good for you.. pdm s maybe besides althair and oajan don’t last for shit.. no balls.. Herod ??? 2 hrs top and skin scent.. layyton exclusif smells like dirt.. thank god 3 hrs later it’s copltelety gone.. Amouage is just so damn intriguing.. versatile.. innovating.. and I’m not from Middle East either.. they all last and project all day.. and keep developing thru out the day.. scents arena killer.. jubilation xxv, jubilation 40, interlude53, epic, overture, reflection and reflection 45 perhaps the most divine scent ever created.. lyric is rose vanilla incense patchouli tobacco.. Frickin amazing..
Amouage and PDM are my top two houses, for sure. Amouage definitely makes more unique fragrances (in the west), but good thing I only wear them for me. 😅 Anyways, I love both 🤙🏻
So elequently put, and I appreciate how balanced your take is. I share a similar view of the house, but admittedly I'll always love them because of Herod. That particular fragrance is so special to me since it's what I wore when I first met my wife, and it's what I wore when we got married too, so it has lots of sentimental value. Congratulations about your daughter, so happy for you, and it's such a beautiful sentiment to name her Delina!
Thanks to PDM I got into niche perfumes, also Herod is imo one of the nicest tobacco-vanilla style perfumes in terms of quality and performance. However, at the moment I prefer more daring scent profiles, although I think that for someone who is dipping his toes in niche fragrances it's a nice step up from designer brands.
I agree with every point u made on both sides actually XD I guess that's why they are so famous, they've mastered the line between niche and mass appealing, I applaud them for that, herod and layton are my fav fragrances of all time
Pdm is dope. They last all day and smell amazing and the quality is phenomenal. They're actually worth their price vs other niche where you spend more and it lasts like 2 hours like Creed
it is so fucking crazy to me that back when i was in highschool when i first tried weed in like 2018 id watch your videos to learn how different drugs felt and here i am 6 years later about to graduate college and i find you again and it appears we both have a love for fragrance lmfao. glad you’re doing well bro
I agree with a lot of what you've said. I got sucked in and bought the lot then moved on the few I didn't like. Most are loves if I'm honest and the rest are strong likes. I have extremely broad taste though hence my ridiculously large and unnecessary collection. Great content bro, I've been wanting to do some more Ted talk content but I decided I'll wait until I have a larger viewer base before I do it. Very refreshing and I respect you a lot for this
I think the quality difference between PDM and designer brands is always apparent. My first time smelling Layton and Pegasus, I was really blown away. I never felt it smelled like Vicks or overly menthol.

PDM managed to make Niche fragrances smell mass appealing. People are just haters, nothing else. The only downside with PDM are the reformulations, I still cannot understand how my Layton Exclusif is at 20% fragrance oil while being an Extrait...
top 3. 1. Carlisle 2. Pegasus Exclusif 3. Layton Carlisle and PE could really switch on any day. I haven't tried haltane yet but that one has been on my radar due to your praise.
I’m not personally a can of the house but I totally agree we get caught up on the price of materials when the designs is where a lot of the value comes from.
Of Curse not man, Amouage is orientalish incense, I don’t love all the brands too of course now every brand are inspired by some famous parfum they are trying to create the “BEST” is normal.
Wearing Pegasus Exclusif today, one of my favorites in my collection. Bought Layton and sent it off. Didn’t do anything for me at all, I can understand folks enjoying it, but I saw it as empty value on my shelf. I really enjoy PE though, this one has some uniqueness to it. Was my first really expensive niche. I also really like Perseus a lot, would wear it in similar situation as D&G Italian Love(massive love of mine). Don’t find it that similar to TDH which I also own. It’s weird, people hate on certain PDM, but love others. Layton gets love, Perseus got crapped on. I’d rather a bottle of Perseus any day.
I think with your classical music analogy, you wanted to say the classical era was more safe and mass appealing. That was the era when most composers made their money by commissions from nobles and things were super conservative. Most people consider classical a step back from baroque which was largely religious and people mostly made music to be as ornate as possible. Romantic eventually pushed the boundries much further, chiefly in the form of Beethoven's late string quartets which were decades ahead of their time and still are challenging in spots even to modern ears.
I have never understood the PdM hate in this snobby “fragrance community”. They offer high quality scents that smell great. More than I can say for many niche houses out there.
Isn't it really just about one thing: smelling good? Doesn't it smell good? Whether they are experimental, whether they take risks, doesn't it matter? Personally, at least, I don't really care. And whether it's designer or niche doesn't matter in the end either. All perfumes are luxury products, and whether you pay 50, 100 or 250 dollars - they are always unnecessary products. I can see that perfumes are status symbols, but I can't understand it. As a rule, nobody knows these brands in everyday life anyway, even hyped brands like PdM. If anyone ever mentions a perfume they've worn, it's only to ask: Does it smell good? Doesn't it smell good?
1 of the best in the game!!! Having 11 different PDM. I’ve never been disappointed in 1 that I’ve purchased. Creed takes more hate than PDM. Always gonna be haters. Especially when you’re on top.
hype or no hype, they have a few great offerings that I really enjoy wearing. Habdan, Carlisle, Herod and Layton are always in my rotation. 👍 Inside our snobby fragcomm almost everything can be "overhyped" or "synthetic" but I just wear what I like and most of the time Im the most unique smelling person wherever I go since in the real world most people have no clue what PDM or MFK or Slumberhouse or any of that is. 😂
"Goats fir and mayonnaise"😂. That was funny! I think PDM is more than creative enough to not be considered a niche clone house. But what I've found with PDM fragrances is they all share this certain characteristic that I don't like. I'm guessing its a signature as I pick literally pick it up in all of their fragrances. Including the freshies. Some ingredient they use makes them feel stuffy or compressed, albeit high-quality. They dont feel open..if you will. Just as Creed, which is also considered a gateway niche house, their fragrances share a signature. They all have a fresh, breeziness that gives them an elevated ease, lively and realistic quality. Even their relatively "darker" scents (think Aventus, Royal Oud, GIT etc.) share this characteristic. I only have one PDM and it isn't one of their more innovative ones. In my personal experience Kalan was the most challenging of the 12 or so I tried.
What about all the people entering into the fragrance space for the first time this year, or last year? None of them could possibly know what Pure Havane smells like. With some of these niche brands having access to a wider audience, I don't blame them for creating "inspired versions" of well-known scents. An example: Dior Sauvage edp vs Gisada Ambassador. Gisada was clearly inspired by Sauvage EDP so they created Ambassador for men that has a prominent fruity mango note in the opening and maybe a slight twist in the dry down compared to Sauvage EDP. Both are great in their own right. We just have options now and I'd much rather have that than a full-on clone.
I hated my sample of gallaway. The other day I was wearing black orchid, bacorat rouge and harod just sampling it. I walked by some girls and they started talking about how it smells in the mall in front of abacrombie and fitch stores
I agree with your Sedley take 100%, I bought a sample of it when I heard so many people raving about it but I wore it once and was just so disappointed... I'm a pretty young guy, and Sedley is way too mature and bland for my taste... I don't want to smell like some rich, tasteless old man, hahaha.
I didn’t like the rosemary with the sprite lemon some people love it tho it’s subjective but I got a synthetic lemon with tea bag rosemary shampoo vibe. Couldn’t stand it.
Celebrating a fragrance house for delivering a combination of mass-appealing and artistic challenging scents of high quality and great performance is not "overhyping" it. I think PDM gets the credit they deserve. You can't say the same for most other niche houses which is why ppl celebrate their PDMs.
PDM is a glorified clone house. lets be real. They do have a few unique ones but the clone / twist far outweigh the originals. Percival=fierce haltane = ofg with sweet Oajan= Hermessence Ambre Narguile Galloway=lalique white goldophin= tuscan leather Kalan = BR540 but twisted with moss/pepper yeahhhh its nice stuff but i wouldnt call it art.... Not saying they're bad. They do smell "good"/"designer" Heck i have few (haltane/kalan) Most of these luxury brands (PDM,XERJOFF,CREEDS) are just trends right now. Free bottles got out for influencers to push the juice. SOOO many nice niche fragrances dont get the lime light. Great video, very well spoken and very many solid points
Niche fragrances don’t get the limelight because.. they’re niche lol. It’s in the name. They aren’t mass appealing so many ladies would not like them. I have over 50 bottles collection yet my LV imagination and YSL La homme, and Versace man eu Fraice get me the most compliments lmao.
@@tjpfz6 negative. There’s “niche” and then there’s “mass appealing” fragrances. They are categories for a reason. Those ouds, spicy scents, musks, leather etcs are hit and miss. The wearer may like them but definitely not everyone around! That’s different than bleu de Chanel for example. Nothing to do with free bottles.
@@bigde131 why would one label pdm niche or creeds????? none of them are really challenging and mass appealing.... i stand by my point. and it has everything to do with free bottles my guy. do some diggin
@@tjpfz6 that’s the point lol. They’re “challenging”. Any thing that’s “challenging” will only be desired by…ding ding ding! Niche or segmented communities. I have done digging. Stop being so biased with a tin foil hat on
I think they're kind of overpriced at retail as a brand, their quality isn't quite as high as some other brands, but they also aren't low quality like some designers. I think some of their fragrances are very safe, but i wouldn't say designer safe. They definitely have inspired by fragrances, but not all are like that. Not everyone will like Herod, Carlisle, Haltane, Layton, Habdan, Oajan, and I can't name any fragrance that smells like any of these. and then they have darker, more niche versions of these fragrances, like Layton Exclusif. I think on discounters they are amazing value, 125ML bottles for $160 is amazing. That's the price of a retail Chanel or Dior designer.
I've yet to watch it but them and their sister company, initio, make generally mass appealing but high quality long lasting perfumer with a good variety. Generally their expensive but much more justifiable cost wise than some company's
My overall idea of PDM is designer with a niche mask lol The combination of paying TH-camrs for hype, making the scents mass appealing & niche status labeling worked for them I guess
Never had one stay in my collection. I don’t really believe in things being overhyped because I like to think work speaks for itself. But it’s hard for me to believe it isn’t with all the influencers pushing it with the free bottles. I do have an urge to revisit them though. Maybe later. Lots of other good options out there.
Pdm make mass appealing fragrances so yeah I would say some are just about worth the hype, only just.. Not worth the cost though, buy on discounters only
I literally only like Althair. All the other ones suck for my nose. Just smells synthetic and weird. Obviously pretty much all designer and niche perfumes are wildly overpriced, objectively. They are priced for market segments, not for actual value of components.
If a brand is overhyped, there’s usually a reason for it. Aventus, for example, is incredibly overhyped, but most people love it. The same goes for Xerjoff; they’re a 10/10, which is why they’re so popular. PdM is also a great fragrance house, and their hype is just as well-deserved as the others mentioned. For me, it’s simple-if something is ‘overhyped,’ it’s because it deserves to be.
@@Kharaman.V I feel that big time. After exploring quite a bit it’s pretty rare for a fragrance to be truly amazing and not have some recognition. Black Afgano for example isn’t really ‘hyped’ but it has good enough recognition you don’t have to be into niche long before you hear it brought up. Most really good ones have there hype. Every brand has a top 3 and the brands aren’t that underground just maybe not mainstream enough to stumble on them but they’re still pretty easily found. I discovered the top Amouage fragrances the second I got interested in niche lol. It’s also almost never that I’ve tried something no one talks about and it was amazing lol. Juniper sling smells REALLY good and is never talked about BUT once I saw it lasted 30 seconds it made more sense lol.
Please don't tell anyone especially your daughter where the name came from :D I like Layton, but Detour Noir is 95% the same. But I haven't tried others.
Some people go into grey areas and consider niche fragrances those that appeal to a smaller audience. This is a combination of high price point, original design, and overall quality. Therefore, they see niche as a grade of fragrance. The issue is the grey areas are subjectively interpreted so one will consider a fragrance ‘niche grade’ and another won’t. I avoid the grey areas because it serves as a barrier for communication and complicates something rather simple. For me, niche is any brand that exclusively produces fragrances. Designer is a brand that produces designer products (bags, clothes, accessories, etc.) but produces fragrances on the side. Another way to think of it is celebrity perfumes primarily produce a product like music and fragrances is more of an addition to the brand. The issue with my take is technically armaf would be niche 😅. But it isn’t that deep IMO and it’s less confusing to just have a concrete definition.
Sedley is one of the most disappointing fragrances I've ever smells. It smells so boring, generic and chemical to my nose. Layton exclusive is good but the hype it gets i expected much more from it
After testing alot of them , I think overall a they are over hyped and over priced Just few decent here and their that they are really good Carlisle Haltan Pegasus Layton “Good but overhyped” Herod some batches lately got weaker though
If pdm for the price then yes...but compared to creed though!! It looks pretty good.....if you want something unique it's not it...if you want something safe but very good smelling and mass pleasing then it's worth it..
I have many PDMs. They are designerish more than niche. Not worth full retail but who actually pays that??? The only one I’ve tried that is absolute crap is Greenley. If it was a movie it’d be Gone In Sixty Seconds.
Got more than a couple PDMs, I like them, I use them, my wife likes them, as well. Having said that, if I could turn back time, I'd use that money on something else. They're mainstream, easy wear, easy to like, pretty boring.
No it's not worth the hype. After intensive testing I only like Herod. Others like Carlisle, Percival, Layton and Sedley weren't delivering. Most of them become a musky scent after a couple of hours. Only Herod won't fall in a blend musky scent, not great longivity, but it's okay. PDM as a niche brand is far behind brands like Amouage and Xerjoff.
Overall they're overrated. I haven't gone far into them. Seem liud and synthetic. I do like Galloway. Kalan is a huge mess. Disagree with you on Ganymede.
Pdm is an overhyped brand by especially the young tiktok wannabe noses. There is a trend in following the hype of paid youtubers. They get paid and advertise it all the time especially layton and others. I sampled all house of pdm and can easily say none of them can even take a place in my top 20 list. I find them avarage, non appealing, boring most of the time. It is like advertising God of fire 😂😂😂 instead of that disgusting 540 clone I would stick with the original mfk. Trust me dont believe those youtubers and dont be a crowd follower sheep. Never blind buy a perfume without sampling.
I agree w you.. totally agree.. and im most pissed off about pdm s cause they don’t last don’t project much and silage sucks too.. these pdm s have no balls..there are some good.. althair, oajan.. but again 3 hrs later mesasily skin scent..
PDM and Creed, have amazing DNA's but average performance kind of disappointing considering their price. But I do love them and own several from each house
I've smelled all of the Parfums de Marly at Nordstrom and I didn't like any of them. I personally don't like wearing hyped fragrances because I don't want to smell like everyone else. Everyone was hyped over Creed for years and then they moved onto PDM.
Initio is absolutely overpriced and overrated, but a few of the PDMs are decent. Herod, Layton Exclusif and Oajan are top notch. Layton, Sedley and Percival are garbage IMO 700 dollar gucci sneakers are way better quality than 200 dollar Nikes. Being made in Italy with higher quality leather vs made in China with plastic composite faux leather. Some designers are worth the money. I have about 15 fragrances retail are 550-650, but i paid under 300 for all of them. PDM is a $120 brand. They have to charge a lot because of the free bottle brigade. Also, some brands think charging a lot puts it in a higher end category, which PDM is absolutely not there.

Would be cool to see another video like this on Tom ford or replica maybe 🙏
Well spoken bro!👏🏼 👏🏼🫡
Authenticity and honesty are trending up. Stick to it.
PDM have some unique bangers! much better than Boadicea IMO
I hated my sample of gallaway. The other day I was wearing black orchid, bacorat rouge and harod just sampling it. I walked by some girls and they started talking about how it smells in the mall in front of abacrombie and fitch stores
Btw, I got a thing for Kalan even though it stings the nostrils upon initial spray. There’s something addictive about it.
I tried to like PDM myself and it didn't really wow me.
If there has to be a niche house that gets over-hyped, then I'm okay with it being PFD. They put out bangers.
Celebrating a fragrance house for delivering a combination of mass-appealing and artistic challenging scents of high quality and great performance is not "overhyping" it. I think PDM gets the credit they deserve.
You can't say the same for most other niche houses which is why ppl celebrate their PDMs.
I would pay 350 dollars for Roja enigma or 2010-2013 creed Aventus 😅
Great synopsis my brother
PDM is a glorified clone house. lets be real. They do have a few unique ones but the clone / twist far outweigh the originals.
Percival=fierce
haltane = ofg with sweet
Oajan= Hermessence Ambre Narguile
Galloway=lalique white
goldophin= tuscan leather
Kalan = BR540 but twisted with moss/pepper
yeahhhh its nice stuff but i wouldnt call it art.... Not saying they're bad. They do smell "good"/"designer" Heck i have few (haltane/kalan)
Most of these luxury brands (PDM,XERJOFF,CREEDS) are just trends right now.
@@bigde131 niche just means a special segment. Plenty of influences could push them. And they don't? Cause they're not getting free bottles
Layton, Carlisle, and Percival are the ones I consider worth it
Overhyped or not, PDM make bomb fragrances. Massappealing, great performing, high quality scents!
@@Trollet532 🤣
I've yet to watch it but them and their sister company, initio, make generally mass appealing but high quality long lasting perfumer with a good variety. Generally their expensive but much more justifiable cost wise than some company's
My overall idea of PDM is designer with a niche mask lol
The combination of paying TH-camrs for hype, making the scents mass appealing & niche status labeling worked for them I guess
I did smell someone walk by me at Cheesecake Factory wearing Layton. Very recognizable strong silliage
Comparing Herod with Spicebomb Extreme showed me, that some Designers can be almost as good for a much better price.
PDM is for beginners which is fine .
But they should price them like that .if they were $$90 a bottle fair play
Have you smelled KALAN? I think thats a risky one they made
If a brand is overhyped, there’s usually a reason for it.
❤❤❤❤❤
Please don't tell anyone especially your daughter where the name came from :D I like Layton, but Detour Noir is 95% the same. But I haven't tried others.
Great video 📹 👍
What brands are considered niche
Layton exclusive is good but the hype it gets i expected much more from it
Nice pig squill at the end. Mitch Lucker would be proud.
After testing alot of them , I think overall a they are over hyped and over priced
Just few decent here and their that they are really good
Carlisle
Haltan
Pegasus
Layton “Good but overhyped”
Herod
some batches lately got weaker though
If pdm for the price then yes...but compared to creed though!! It looks pretty good.....if you want something unique it's not it...if you want something safe but very good smelling and mass pleasing then it's worth it..
Layton Percival Pegasus only ones i love
I have many PDMs. They are designerish more than niche. Not worth full retail but who actually pays that??? The only one I’ve tried that is absolute crap is Greenley. If it was a movie it’d be Gone In Sixty Seconds.
Haha ya I’m not a big fan of Greenley either it’s an apple shampoo with bad performance to me
Good house but to a house like amouage they can’t light a candle to them
I really get vicks vaporub vibe from Layton tbh.
Congrats on the little one, great review and love the perspective.
Got more than a couple PDMs, I like them, I use them, my wife likes them, as well. Having said that, if I could turn back time, I'd use that money on something else. They're mainstream, easy wear, easy to like, pretty boring.
Buy pdm . They are high quality. Enjoy
READS TITLE: No!
16:53....this 👌🏿
😊
Overall they're overrated. I haven't gone far into them. Seem liud and synthetic. I do like Galloway. Kalan is a huge mess.
Disagree with you on Ganymede.
no
Not a fan of PDM
Dude you look a lot like Aaron Paul
There’s a lot of irony here if you search “Cg Kid” (my past channel) 😅
I think we now in the broke period
I didn’t even watch the video. I’m just here to say yes it is.
PDM and Creed, have amazing DNA's but average performance kind of disappointing considering their price. But I do love them and own several from each house
Absolutely not.
Their bottles distract from the underachieving juice inside.
Jr College quality.
Respectfully.
Layton, Sedley and Percival are garbage IMO
700 dollar gucci sneakers are way better quality than 200 dollar Nikes.
Not a fan of PDM i own percival because i got a good deal but overall not impressed. Great channel BTW mate!
