I would also like to add some lore on the mv and more context if you don't mind reading more.
I see a lot of people confused about the "change of concept" and the lyrics, so I figured I would explain the context behind this MV.
Before every comeback, Dreamcatcher always release a "mystery code" - a picture with hints about the future comeback. For this CB, the mystery code consisted of a whole ARG with an X account (ymenehcra99, who also appears in the MV in 0:48 and 2:35), documenting the descent into madness of the user, who was obsessed with "the crown". The person running the account mentioned doing things like spending lots of money on luxurious clothes, chasing a truck with the crown symbol and almost getting into an accident as a result, and they even posted an audio of what sounded like an alarm, as if they had stolen something; all that in order to be "worthy of the crown".
This MV might seem flashy and superficial, but it's supposed to be satire about how things like the idol industry (and social media too) are not as glamourous as they seem at first, since a lot of what is posted is actually fake.
It's also critisizing how some people are willing to do anything to be famous and get attention: buying nice clothes and faking a luxurious lifestyle (hence the OOTD lyrics being so narcissistic and so "generic" - they're playing as the "villains" who let fame and power get to their heads/won't stop at nothing to get attention - and Sua and Siyeon posing in front of cars and motorbikes around 0:27 and 0:40), staging fake drama (like Handong and Yoohyeon faking a fight in front of the camera in 1:32, only for Handong to help Yoohyeon immediately afterwards), or even editing their reality to make it look more interesting or appealing (see for example the very obvious green screen behind the girls during the dance scenes in 2:55, or the multiple photo/video editing references, like in the very beginning of the video).
DCC really put a lot of thought into the concept, so it's a pity that many people don't have enough context to properly understand it. Hopefully this comment clears the confusion about the lyrics and concept!💖

Ymenehcra is also the protagonist of the arg that DCC ran for the past month and a half or so. It’s about them chasing the crown (fame and clout) and is being driven crazy from it. The mv actually follows the events of the arg, where ymenehcra follows the crown to Dreamcatcher, where they well… whatever happens there.

OOTD is such a smart piece of satire, it's kinda sad how many people take it literally.

I’m just looking at people like you know they’re joking right they don’t think of themselves this way and this is an intended to be a self-love piece😂

I mean, if they take it literally, there's also no problem, since DC is already flawless and gorgeous 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️ 🤭

Exactly the same thing happened to the satire song 'You Know Who Is My Father?' by Namewee and
'Duh Duh Duh Dum' by B²TSM
(role played by Eddy Chen and Brett Yang at TwoSetViolin)
but they are very unfortunate, all being sabotaged by Blonks LMAO,
people who don't understand mockery at all LOL

By the way I personally think just 50/50 that the members of Dreamcatcher who literally think greatly of themselves exactly like the lyrics.
After any stage show they actually all judging very hard on themselves respectively by seeing their post-staging vlogs. And some interviews mentioned about their dark era when transitioning from MINX to Dreamcatcher, there were depression period and inconfidence, so much self-doubting...

I mean the whole MV is meant to look like a simulation, computer generated. Not sure why people think they are serious xD

Is it just me or there are a lot of subtle crown references in the choreo? I first noticed it with the formation with Handong in the middle and they're all linked up.
The teasers had mentions of the crown and the MV had it as well too.

La Chica helped construct this choreography. That pretty much should say it all if people are at all familiar with them and are wondering why this choreography has an extra set of swagger this time around.

I think the "odd eye" formation you saw might be a lotus, there are lotus imagery in the OOTD mv

This is actually a very nasty song about narcisism and the emptiness of showbiz. “Beyond your reach”. Everything must be be perfect. Flawless, spotless. Yet at times there are bruises and scars all over them. Bragging about money and cars. “Get the F out of my way”. “Drunk every day”. Every shot is lifted from a typical K-pop video. The video crew is seen all the time but they are just black silhouttes. At the end they are shown surrounded by a circular green screen becoming an artificial stage. Nothing is real in this world. Oh, and of course: OOTD means “outfit of the day”. That’s what everything is reduced to in this world.
Holy hell. I only now noticed: when the video stops after the fight one of the personnel is holding a GUN! In the end someone is holding the camera. They take it away. The cameraman falls to the floor. Now he has no power over them.

Here's my thing: People who weren't involved in the ARG don't have to be to understand this is satire. I'm gonna call it as I see it. If you can't take the very obvious hints in the music video as 'this song is satire as well as the MV' then I don't think there's any help for you. You would have to be looking away from the screen the entire MV to not notice the massive amounts of editing tricks and Photoshop UI all over the screen. I understand it's a harsh take, but it's also not a hard conclusion when the girls have never done this style before and the clues are hitting you point blank.

you could also see it as so many kpop consumers have seen this kinda imagery so many times before but in a totally sincere context that theyve become dulled by it. Like the posing on cars, glitzy glamor shots, even the editing stuff/social media references was used in mvs like new jeans and many others and often was used to display creativity and/or invoke the y2k retro-futuristic aesthetic thats so popular rn. People see musicians rapping about being the best and having lots of cash and think "yeah this is normal" instead of what the DC girls are actually pointing to, that it isn't normal but we've Made it normal

    Late to be here
Just add something to your thought, they're not creating the Odd Eye
They created a lotus that is used on the album logo
Simply represent the beauty or self-centric object in satirical terms. Because lotus live in a kind of muddy and dirty environment but have a really bright color. At the same time, we also can think that as a crown
There are almost 4-5 times that appear in different variation

I think the 'Odd eye' 21:15 is more like a lotus flower. The design of the crown on the album is meant to look like a lotus flower. Just like 22:50 where it looks like petals opening.
Also the way they end the dance, they form a crown.

    dreamcatcher \:D/
at surface level, it appears to be a typical kpop girl crush concept but dc takes it over the top with the imagery and lyrics so the song can be interpreted as a satirical directed at kpop or the entertainment industry in general. basically dc doing kpop but to the extreme as to expose it. the lyrics are to the point of narcissist but the imagery reveal it's just an act. and ymenehcra aka archenemy ;). I don't mind the concept but the music production is a bit messy imo with all the distorted vocals and conflicting sounds between synths and instrumentation... or was that intentional as part of their satire? lol. even so it could have been produced more cleanly seeing how dc has covered so many different genres but made it their own.

    • @cr0wdedteeth
      @cr0wdedteeth 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

i feel like the crazy over-the-top distortion and manipulation of sounds/synths especially was very intentional bc it further emphasizes how "fake" everything is, like not even the instrumentation is real. Its confusing and muddy at times and it makes the song itself sound conflicted and caught in this struggle between fabrication and reality.

    • @ivyshy98
      @ivyshy98 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

@@cr0wdedteeth I would agree with you and try to tell myself that to justify the song but this distortion trend has occurred since the last album so there's a coincidence here if you know what I mean. listen to the radio show live version, it sounds so much better. after listening to that, I can barely stand the studio anymore. a certain other group with the same certain producers also like to use this a lot in their songs. does it match dc? I don't think so because I love hearing their clear voices compliment each other.
