Yes. I love this video. I've recently started looking into buying slightly used, unlocked phones, because being stuck on a two year payment plan (in turn being locked to the carrier) is something I'm trying to get away from. I recently bought two Nexus 6P phones (because the specs are very comparable to the Pixel devices, though it is 3 years old) and I've been enjoying them on official Oreo 8.1. While the 128GB version has a little bit of a washed screen, given it's usage, the 64GB version I also purchased is in pristine condition with no perfect, as new resolution. Both came with a 1 year warranty from eBay (Assurian(sp)), and this is the route I'll be going with in the future.
It's just apparent that the "want" to have the latest and greatest, and the taboo of buying a used device (even when pristine) keeps most from even considering this. I absolutely love my s8+, however I'm still only half way through the payment contact and the s9 is already on its way to the public soon. I don't plan on going with another major flagship from my carrier, possibly from the manufacturer directly. However, it does make more financial since to just buy referbs with a warranty, especially since the vast majority of people slam a case on it anyway, so what little scratches do exist will never be seen.
Sorry, I tend to go on tangents, but again great video.

  • @slapnut892
    @slapnut892 6 ปีที่แล้ว +204

This was a terrible review. You never went into detail about the pitfalls of buying a referbished phone. As someone who has, I can honestly say it is a real gamble. Are you buying one with referbished parts? Are they stolen? Are the parts aftermarket? Are they cheap Chinese replica parts? Are the parts of high quality? Are the people you are buying from authorized referbishers/resellers? Etc...
I bought a Samsung Galaxy S4 (and returned it) from someone that seemed legit enough only to find out it was a lemon with hacked firmware, overheating issues, throttling, broken widget draw, camera not working because of overheating, even the removable backplate was a poor knockoff (the writing came off just by rubbing it, Samsung phones don't do that).
Moral of the story: if you don't care about wasting money, only buy from an authorized and reputable reseller/refurbisher with a good track record. Another pro tip is to be very careful about feedback on their own site, a lot of it might be fake, so always look for off-site review's.

i've always been one to just go for refurbished phones as i never cared for new ones and let me say all of the refurbished phones i've had have been owned all over at least 3 years or more and all had 0 issues. I purchased a brand new phone about a year ago because of a great deal i got and i thought it would be nice owning a new phone but just yesterday that phone decided to just completely start to break. I lost all vibration in the phone and the touch sensors also broke or are close to breaking because sometimes i cant type and the phone will start typing for me. In the end my point is the refurbished phone is actually the better phone. Whatever broke was fixed and now you don't have to deal with what the new owner of one had to experience. They also tend to update other parts on refurbished phones and the part will actually be better than oem such as in the video with the screens. So my opinion is always go with the refurbished.

I'd say the quality of the phones
    differ dependent of the company.
I just recently bought a Note 20 for 278 euros, and when it arrived it was in way better condition than I expected.
The phone was less expensive to buy than second hand than where I live, and I got free shipping and half a year of warranty as well.
The front glass was in perfect condition, and the back looked as new (with a few very small buts), which is impressive for a plastic back. The only way I could tell that it was pre owned was because I could see the edges of where the case used to be on the frame and the screen had minor burn in.
With the price I've payed I'm very happy. Though I've heard other people having different experiences with refurbished phones.

FWIW, my last two phones -- an iPhone 5 and later a Note 5 -- bought brand new, each had to be replaced under warranty.
If the warranty is backed by anyone other than the OEM, just make sure you read the terms carefully before buying, so that you understand fully the warranty company's terms of repair or replacement.

Personally, I would much rather buy it used from someone selling privately. These "Refurbished" phones are mostly phones that were fixed up. I would imagine that one of the most common reasons why these phones are fixed is because of a cracked screen. I'd never buy a refurb. 40% of retail cost just isn't enough savings with all things considered. Such as the risks that come with refurb. Examples being that the chances of getting a refurb that has defects and glitches that got by the QC tests. Cheap after market replacement parts and possible slower performance. Plus I just personally HATE the fact the device is not brand new and that I'm using someone else's old defect or neglected device. It may be a bit silly but it's just the thought of it that bothers me.

In all actuality, you very well COULD get scammed buying a refurbished product. However, for what it's worth, I have had success with them recently. A LOT depends on where you get them from & there seem to be a handful of reputable companies, now. (For phones)
In general, I have avoided refurbished products. The warranty is often short or non-existent. Also, there is often no guarantee that the problem is fixed, or that it won't reoccur. (Without any coverage)

I had to send my 1day old phone in for repairs(no physical damage, just messed up out of the box), and was sent a refurbished phone because they couldn't fix mine. I usually get mine refurbished. Most have been great value and lasted well. Some even have a guarantee. Not all are perfect. The worse was my HTC one with a camera that took purple images, but I've had an LG with a battery that lasted minutes, a Sony with a broken speaker and a HTC desire that won't connect to any networks! A Huawei P20 pro had a poorly performing camera due to a scratched lens (now fixed but still not perfect). My current LG V30 came on android 7 and battery dropped rapidly after only a short time using. I had to manually update it using PC as missed 8.0 so phone didn't find update. Seems it wasn't used for a while! But the next day after a full discharge and recharge battery was superb. And now it's got no faults at all. Lovely camera and I'm lucky. The oled got bad press on this but mines glorious. Best screen I've had on a phone. 165 pounds. I'd struggle to get close to anything this good new for that price.
