Hi Brian, I had a mate of mine helping, and he was not familiar with the set up, so we had the microphone volume too high causing distortion. Thanks for watching, Andy
Neat video. At least the cops over there have enough sense to buy decent equipment. Most of the PD's over here use Harley Davidsons. I have no idea why.
Many are switching to Kawasaki and BMW. Building a BMW 1200 RTP right out of the crate is a freakin blast plus the initial test ride before it goes to the officers. Many of the HD Police bikes are aging and are being retired.
The BMW is the only bike still that can hold full throttle for four minutes, which is the speed of the speedometer, no other bike can. I found this out just before I bought my 09 1200rt two years ago, I was not looking for any info of that type but I watched a vid about police bikes that are used in different countries. Some places use Honda Gold Wings too, they have to be able to handle a lot of abuse. Watch a Japanese police video of what they have to go through, it's a lot more than our police do, AND, they have women motorcycle cops, I had no idea.
He didn't let you ride it!?! Rip off!!! Lol. I've met plenty of dick head cops, but I haven't really ever met a mean bike cop. It must be because riding is good for the soul. I get frustrated with other drivers when I have to drive a car (like a sucker), but when I ride, which is 95% of the time, all of the frustrations are already in my rearview mirror and I can just smile and enjoy the moment. Another good video
+furnimaker thanks mate. I feel you frustration, I was only just telling the mrs how pissed off I was driving home from work this afternoon, I raged the entire trip. The struggle is real 😞
Breaking the law isn't a requirement when it comes to the police raising revenue. There's plenty of dashcam footage which show this, although it obviously doesn't apply to all police officers.
Nice wheels. Here in Brisbane the Yamaha FJR1300 are used for Police bikes, with the occasional old ST1300 still in use. I have seen the undercover sport bike in use too. Miss seeing the R1200RTP s here. I ride an RTP (ex: Victoria Police bike) myself and really enjoy it. On bikesales.com.au there are quite a few camhead and hexhead R1200RTPs to be had for a fair price. Change the radio box out for a pillion seat and it becomes a really good value proposition touring bike.
Wow 100,000 kms lifespan for the Tasmania police as here in New South Wales the police were sending them off to auction with only 32-35,000 kms on them
Watching this made me want to get back into riding! I'd love to do this for a job! Love riding, and love LEO. Here in NZ, we used to have a fleet of BMW RT's the same as this, but they're phasing them out and phasing in Honda ST1300's instead. Bit of a backwards step IMO. Trouble is, to get into a motorcycle unit, you have to do your time first in GDB - General Duties, which doesn't interest me in the least. Pity.
Thinking of getting one of these, maybe a 2011 for affordability. They are sexy as hell. And look very comfy. Would it be good as one of my first bikes though? I am sitting on my 125cc automatic as I’m writing this, and will be riding a Yamaha 400 Majesty once I pass my full test - maybe for a year or so. Then I want to graduate on to this bike. Sound like a reasonable step up or is 1200cc too much after a year or two?
We have the Hayabusa in Australia too, but only where there are high speed motorways. Tasmania is roughly the same size as Ireland, but it only has a population of about 500,000 people. There are lots of hills with twisty roads and plenty of gravel roads too. It really is a case of trying to find a best fit for our state on a very limited budget. Thanks for watching, Andy
Eventually, an electric bike will be mated to a radioisotope thermoelectric generator fuel-cell, and we'll begin to see TRUE long-distance riding. Dunno about the speeds attainable with current technology, but DISTANCES would be a whole other kettle of fish!
And I think you meant to say "fuel SHIT-uation"? That's the proper spelling for when you're being chased by the cops. But yanno, I've BEEN in a few chases in m time - I've actually run from police helicopters and several squad cars on a little C70 Passport '82 Honda scooter, and BEAT them every single time, due to heavy traffic etc. This was in Calgary Alberta in the late mid '90s when I was in my early mid 20s - to paraphrase Hedwig & the Angry Inch. But since then, too - around year Zero through '02 I was running a pretty slick '82 CB750F at upwards of 250kph pretty much everywhere I went, and got into some crazy car chases, sometimes just playing around with other motorists in particular this hottie in a sports-car this one time. Had a bit of a deathwish, failed back surgery in recent weeks and a head full of oxycodone etc etc. I only understood in hindsight what I was trying to do was find an "honorable" death that nobody would suspect was deliberate - but under the circumstances of course it's all pretty obvious and lame. Pun unintended. ANYWAY - what I was gonna SAY is this: When it comes to high speed chases, you're probably not gonna run out of fuel. Either the people chasing you will run out of ballsack, or you'll run out of LUCK. But never fuel!
That bike is ridiculously smooth. Its a smoother ride than most cars. Its also a boxer engine that has a great deal of ground clearance. Why would a police force need a cruiser style bike? Cruisers can be quick - but not as quick as the RTP.
Good to hear from a bike friendly cop👍
Great bloke
Ouch ! the sound (distorted for the main voice, so far away for the police officer)
I know, sorry about that. Equipment issues and no real way (read knowledge) to fix it in post, thanks for watching
Don't know if it's the way you're using the microphone, or the type of microphone you're using, but you're voice sounds rather muffled and unclear.
Hi Brian, I had a mate of mine helping, and he was not familiar with the set up, so we had the microphone volume too high causing distortion. Thanks for watching, Andy
Love the RT, always rode them.

I've met a lot of motorcycle cops, and they've all been GC's. They're all riders in their private lives too; they get it.
The over boosted microphones is driving me nuts.
In the US, they are used as revenue generation. One of these can collect thousand$ in just one day with a radar gun.
Breaking the law isn't a requirement when it comes to the police raising revenue. There's plenty of dashcam footage which show this, although it obviously doesn't apply to all police officers.

G'day mate, thanks for tuning in. Yeah a mate of mine had an ex police R1200 and it was a bloody good bike for the $$$, Andy
Great episode Andy. I bet most police forces wouldn't have let anyone within 10 miles of that place. Gotta love Tassie.
Wow 100,000 kms lifespan for the Tasmania police as here in New South Wales the police were sending them off to auction with only 32-35,000 kms on them
Very different attitude to Sydney's MC Highway Patrol. 👍
'roads & public order' big brother on a bike
Guy sounds really enthusiastic

Great bikes, great bloke, I agree with your comment about the ST1300. I hope you do get back into riding mate, it's good for the soul, Andy
great presentation, thanks for sharing.
"No heat seeking missiles", that's what they want you to think.
Great Job Andy & Lewie.

Good choice that Vulcan , sounds a bit annoying otherwise interesting
i wasnt sure if this was a professional video until i heard the audio

Only you can answer that. See if you can get a test ride on one
Andy's Motorcycle Obsessions thanks I guess so... really look forward to finding out!
Sexy? Ease up. Haha
How many classes of constable are there?
great video andy
+oozuk thanks mate
Police around the world should use the ktm superadventure 1290r!
too soft and too unrelaible, a pig to work on and parts are very expensive
Open road speed limit, police will be seen if its domestic violence, , please re enchantment me there ...Rick
I love this bike :)
I get to ride this police bike in GTA 5
BMW is good for running around BMW sevice station. In UK they are on Hayabusa. That is Excelent choice.

No mate- mostly they are on BMW's- with the very odd exception, granted.
Depends on what YOU'RE riding, thought - dunnit? Heh-heh-heh......
And your fuel situation !!
Eventually, an electric bike will be mated to a radioisotope thermoelectric generator fuel-cell, and we'll begin to see TRUE long-distance riding. Dunno about the speeds attainable with current technology, but DISTANCES would be a whole other kettle of fish!

Indian police be like ye kabhi nahi ho skta
Lol that thumbnail made me click😁
'
would be nice if the presenter had'nt put the microphone inside his mouth.
That's awesome!
Thanks mate
He is the first cop that rides Yamaha instead of a Harley.
I HAVE NO RESPECT FOR AN ORDER FALLOWER, ROAD PIRATE,. I LOVE MY XS 1100 THOUGH,!!!
looks to high and thin ! need a cruiser ! Australia needs to get off its back side and design their own bikes for police.
Wonder how many end up with bad backs at the end of their careers !
That bike is ridiculously smooth. Its a smoother ride than most cars. Its also a boxer engine that has a great deal of ground clearance. Why would a police force need a cruiser style bike? Cruisers can be quick - but not as quick as the RTP.
The post'y bike
sound i alterable
Aside from the obvious distortion causing difficulty to understand, Title is very misleading.
Audio is shizen
