My brother took Latin in high school. His Latin teacher had the whole class watch that scene. Unfortunately, I only took Spanish and didn't get to watch Monty Python for school. I had to enjoy it on my own free time.

You couldn't get anyone better to discuss about 'Life of Brain' then 'The Great Traveler' Michael Palin and 'The Great Director and Cut Out (Animation) Animator' Terry Gilliam. Brilliant!!!
I remember those two. The bishop was wearing a long purple dress and constantly fiddled with what looked like half a pair of binoculars hanging round his neck. Muggeridge always looked as if he had a pineapple up his arse. What a strong team to field to argue that religion should not be made fun of.
Alright, but apart from the sanitation, the medicine, education, wine, public order, irrigation, roads, a fresh water system, and public health, what have the Romans ever done for us?
No doubt all lovely guys with the most amazing sense of humour. Love to Terry Jones whom I once met. Have showed my teenage son some of the Pythonesque humour.🤣😂

Eric Idle had worked with George Harrison on The Rutles film, and before that on his TV show, Rutland Weekend Television, so they probably met shortly after Holy Grail was filmed.
Idle and Harrison met in Los Angeles in 1973 or 74, depending upon who you believe, when the lads were promoting And Now ... or when Idle returned pushing Flying Circus to public television.
I loved Michael Palin playing Pilatus. This was wonderful and ingenious and I laugh everytime I watch these scenes although I can't count how often I've watched the movie... Also I can't help quoting passages from the film from time to time... ;-)
Prince Westerburg, well I think Mr baddiel held his mic close and the python's had more relaxed mic positions. But yes I would have much preferred hearing the python's more and the Baddiel less. His questions were alright though.
My favourite thing about python (well, not really but I'm not under oath), is that they admit doing O2 for the money and are pretty candid about not liking one another. A fun drinking game is to debate which pythons hate which and why. Ready? Wait for it! Go!
Lugh Summerson, the trouble is it would be nasty towards to many normal people. It's what Terry Gilliam was talking about, confusing humour with hatred.
centre mental Hehe - I suppose you are right. The movie had only one song and dance number (the crucifixion), and I suppose that is way past offending anyone today :) Maybe a musical would be a golden opportunity to reinstate the deleted scene with Otto and the Suicide Squad. Israelis might still feel touchy about that one lol.
There was a Brian musical, it was done as a concert oratorio called Not The Messiah, written by Eric Idle and John Du Prez. For my money it's much better than Spamalot (which many Python fans strongly dislike). There was a performance filmed for DVD as the official Python 40th anniversary production, with Palin, Jones, Neil Innes, Carol Cleveland, and Andre Jacquemin. There's also an album version based on the same performance.

Kevin Smith's film "Dogma" is in a similar vein, only set in modern times. 2 cast down angels have found a loophole to get back to Heaven but it will unmake the world so the last descendant of Jesus has to stop them. Hilarious with plenty of insights on religion and faith, incredible cast too.

THere are quite a few muslim comedians and shows that make fun of muslim beliefs. The life of brian DOESN"T make fun of jesus, so its not really a fair comparison. And for those who don't know, there is FAR more of a variety of beliefs in Islam than even christianity, which has quite a few. People STILL mistakenly believe that an Imam is some sort of religious leader like a priest, when they aren't
@@ian_i.o.m495 true enough, but MOST of the info on islam that we get is severely wrong. and its worth noting that even in 1999 kevin smith got death threats after dogma was released.
The scene where Cleese (as the Roman centurion) gives Chapman (Brian) a lesson in Latin grammar... absolute comedy gold.
