Thanks a million for the guide, i was having problems releasing the back cover and hadn't realised that the five screws unde the keyboard needed to be removed. After that it was easy. Simple and easy to follow guide without any flim flam. Perfect. Cloning the HDD to SSD cost me an evening of searching for free software that actually worked without hidden charges, finally stumbled accross Macrium Reflect which works perfectly and is totally free. Great job!
    Many, many thanks.

Great tutorial, must say Dell gave their customers a lot of extra work with their laptop, when it comes to change hard disk.
Thanks to you I did it well.

    Thank you for your video.
    MY HELPFUL TIPS TO VIEWERS:
Open Disc drive before starting or have 📎 paperclip nearby.
On the bottom, the small middle screw holds the Disc drive in place.
When removing Disc drive, I had to remove the middle silver screw at first with the Disc drive bay open, then after removing the entire Disc drive then I could remove the two outside silver screws.
When removing keyboard, DO NOT remove the keyboard tape! Gently put keyboard back in place after ONLY removing the white & blue Disc drive tape (this is the only tape which is attached to bottom of laptop). DO NOT remove any other tape!!

I struggled with the ribbon cable for the HDD when reassembling. Fishing the ribbon cable while keeping the SATA connector in place on the laptop backing was probably the hardest thing on this install for me. Anyway, I got it done. Thank you for this awesome video.

Thanks - awesome vid - changed out to a really fast SSD from the factory 5400RPM mechanical drive! Now the laptop boots up in just a few seconds and runs great!

Great help! Now I have a new SSD in place. One thing, at 2:08 you remove the 3 tapes. You only need to remove the first one to the DVD drive, the others can stay connected.

Why do you disconnect the tape under the keyboard? They don't seem to have anything to do with the hard drive.

If he redid the video with that little information on DVD removal, this will be a fantastic tool. Look where the battery is removed from, you will see a slanted silver lining; that is the back of your DVD unit. Push it to your right - towards the DVD player and the unit will come out. I use a flat head screwdriver to push against it. Other then that "Thanks very much for the DIY video!"

Do not do this step at 2:45 unless you have already unscrewed the last screw holding the left hinge pawl. If you tilt the palmrest you will break off the nut of this bolt.

NICE. THANKS! I tried opening my laptop but had forgotten many screws. Almost destroyed the machine completely. Now because of you I can finally put my god damn SSD instead of the factory-installed shitty 5400 rpm HDD, a complete shame. thanks a lot.

Good to the point video on the mechanical aspect of replacement, but what about the process of getting the Boot portion of the drive onto that SSD before it was installed?
That is what I am most worried about. And some loaded applications (e.g., MS Office 10) one no longer has disks for. There are some sticky items to address.
I pity the poor fool that goes through the whole process with an unformatted and unloaded SSD,...closes the whole thing up then presses the ON button and wonder why they get NOTHING.
Only to later find out the whole thing needs to be likely removed and get the SSD loaded with the HDD materials.

Not easy to replace HDD. Compared to HP, I would prefer to buy a HP so easy to upgrade parts. Now I understand why Dell is expensive because it takes more labor to install it. I would rather buy an HP.
