Actually, I think the shift in the preacher's dialogue at the end means the protagonist is in trouble, an entity that means harm is nearby. The changing of the lights to me seems the protagonist already suspects something is up. Then the car speeds away as the dialogue gets darker and garbled, signifying running away from danger. (To be clearer, something dark is impersonating the priest at this point, taking the, "People do evil things thinking it's the right thing," idea to new heights.
When I was listening back at it, the preachers voice sounds different in the second part. In the beginning there is a lot of emotion and variation in how he's speaking, but when the protagonist is leaving the preachers, voice sounds flatter.

personally i think the second tape is the pov of someone experiencing the side effects of the manifestation machine, the dizziness, temporary amnesia, and mild hallucinations really come off in the switching between the two “timelines” as matt references them as. also in the third tape they say not to drive for 72 hours. the second tape could be the pov of someone who drove before those 72 hours were up… but that’s just a theory… ;)

i love the concept of "thoughtforms". if "half-baked" its to a person like depression or narcisissm, telling you to be awful or great or something but a "full" thoughtform is an actual person that can not only destroy or build you up, but others aswell great reflection by greylock imo

Greylock is maybe my favorite analog horror series since Gemini Home Entertainment. The Monument Mythos is a very close contender, but it's so surreal and experimental that it's hard to necessarily classify as analog horror anymore (not to mention the creator's tendency to delete large chunks of their content with no warning has left a bad taste in my mouth). This series feels like a direct evolution of something like Local58 and GHE, with a few notes of Vita Carnis and a truly fascinating premise that's all its own. I am so excited to see MatPat react to it!
One big thing to note from the Thoughtform Tape is that those kind of beings can affect electronics, which makes the eventual distortions in the tape highly suspect, especially since those sections involve how safe Thoughtforms are and how they can’t possibly escape containment.
I have to agree. While I do enjoy many types of horror here on TH-cam especially analog, Greylock is one of the few that really, really spooks me. Possibly could just have the added factor that I happen to live in MA but either way the editing, audio, and ways details are given out aren't super crazy. This is a very nice paced analog and I can't wait to see the ending.
I love the concept a lot, but I think some of the other analog horrors have more captivating presentations. I loved the little training video but the others were a bit bland to me. Religious horror doesn't really get to me so much. I'm interested in where it'll go next
Mmmmm you have a good point with the religious aspect. A lot have been involving a religion, god, or a high power of some sorts which just ends up being repetitive. Many analogs have used the same things which is understandable considering lots of ideas have been used but the popular ones seem to be pretty consistent in the types of themes they have.
@@NikkiBudders whilst in Greylock there are, and are going to be references, to religion, without spoiling (if you have not seen all up to the recent releases) I'll just let you know that the themes don't become completely bathed in religion. In this case especially, I believe it's there symbolically to make you think about whatever else will come up, and to convey that something ain't right.

The "if youre not the intended viewer" is generally the last line of defense. Between workers, if anyone comes across this tape, if it somehow gets mixed up, that warning essentially acts as a label on the cover that lists a security rating. You CAN just open a top secret file if you have it physically, and the big red "CONFIDENTIAL" isnt going to stop you. But it will act as a warning if you are following the rules. Basically a "dont park here" sign. Its just a sign. It aint stopping you.
I know it's been over for a loooong time, but I kinda wish MatPat would react to Marble Hornets on GTLive one day, it's one of, if not THE OG web horror series on TH-cam and still holds very well today

Not through the video yet and don't know if this is relevant to this series at all, but as someone who gets pretty frequent migraines, the bubble transitions that Mat talks about at ~18 minutes are pretty reminiscent of some of the auras I get before migraines. Again at ~52 all of these except for temporary amnesia are symptoms of migraine, probably unintentional but I still think it's interesting. Edit: actually I just looked it up and apparently migraines can cause something called transient global amnesia, so technically all side effects are also symptoms of migraine (with aura).
I'm excited to see Matpat watch Greylock but it's hard for me to watch Greylock mainly because I live in Massachusetts myself. While I have never been to where the analog takes place (of what I have seen so far) it really is only one of the few that has that ability to freak me out simply due to the location choosing. Minus that point it's a great analog horror series that even without the location detail would be able to scare me regardless.

Greylock is maybe my favorite analog horror series since Gemini Home Entertainment. The Monument Mythos is a very close contender, but it's so surreal and experimental that it's hard to necessarily classify as analog horror anymore (not to mention the creator's tendency to delete large chunks of their content with no warning has left a bad taste in my mouth). This series feels like a direct evolution of something like Local58 and GHE, with a few notes of Vita Carnis and a truly fascinating premise that's all its own. I am so excited to see MatPat react to it!

One big thing to note from the Thoughtform Tape is that those kind of beings can affect electronics, which makes the eventual distortions in the tape highly suspect, especially since those sections involve how safe Thoughtforms are and how they can’t possibly escape containment.
They keep finding the best analog horror, and I cant even be too scared, cause they both just keep laughing it off 😆

Greylock, in my honest opinion, is one of the best analog horrors out there currently.
I have to agree. While I do enjoy many types of horror here on TH-cam especially analog, Greylock is one of the few that really, really spooks me. Possibly could just have the added factor that I happen to live in MA but either way the editing, audio, and ways details are given out aren't super crazy. This is a very nice paced analog and I can't wait to see the ending.
I love the concept a lot, but I think some of the other analog horrors have more captivating presentations. I loved the little training video but the others were a bit bland to me. Religious horror doesn't really get to me so much. I'm interested in where it'll go next
Mmmmm you have a good point with the religious aspect. A lot have been involving a religion, god, or a high power of some sorts which just ends up being repetitive. Many analogs have used the same things which is understandable considering lots of ideas have been used but the popular ones seem to be pretty consistent in the types of themes they have.
i'm surprised they are covering it, considering the demographics of their audience.
@@NikkiBudders whilst in Greylock there are, and are going to be references, to religion, without spoiling (if you have not seen all up to the recent releases) I'll just let you know that the themes don't become completely bathed in religion. In this case especially, I believe it's there symbolically to make you think about whatever else will come up, and to convey that something ain't right.

I believe the garbled audio is transcripts from a news report. Thanks to another comment, I've been able to piece most of this dialogue together. The piece you're talking about I believe says this:

The "if youre not the intended viewer" is generally the last line of defense.
Between workers, if anyone comes across this tape, if it somehow gets mixed up, that warning essentially acts as a label on the cover that lists a security rating.
You CAN just open a top secret file if you have it physically, and the big red "CONFIDENTIAL" isnt going to stop you. But it will act as a warning if you are following the rules.
Basically a "dont park here" sign. Its just a sign. It aint stopping you.

Not through the video yet and don't know if this is relevant to this series at all, but as someone who gets pretty frequent migraines, the bubble transitions that Mat talks about at ~18 minutes are pretty reminiscent of some of the auras I get before migraines.
Again at ~52 all of these except for temporary amnesia are symptoms of migraine, probably unintentional but I still think it's interesting.
Edit: actually I just looked it up and apparently migraines can cause something called transient global amnesia, so technically all side effects are also symptoms of migraine (with aura).

Ash, I've had chronic nose bleeds since i can remember, it sucksz but ive found nasal mist/saline sprays have helped a lot in reducing frequency

I'm excited to see Matpat watch Greylock but it's hard for me to watch Greylock mainly because I live in Massachusetts myself. While I have never been to where the analog takes place (of what I have seen so far) it really is only one of the few that has that ability to freak me out simply due to the location choosing.
Minus that point it's a great analog horror series that even without the location detail would be able to scare me regardless.
I just Googled how far the real Mt.Greylock is from me out of curiosity and it is 3 hours away so yeah, quite far.
don't think matpat knows that greylock is a real place yet.
