  • Coffee with a Curator - Dr. William Jeffett: "Magritte and Dalí" at The Dalí Museum
    January 9, 2019
Coffee with a Curator is a focused, theme-oriented presentation on a variety of Dalí-related topics. The talk is presented by one of the Dalí Museum’s Curatorial/Education team or an invited speaker.
In this talk, Dr. William Jeffett will present an overview of our current exhibition Magritte & Dalí. As the first-of-its-kind special exhibition dedicated to the world’s two most celebrated surrealists, Rene Magritte and Salvador Dalí, this talk will discuss how the current exhibit pushes back the curtain to reveal what lies beyond the simple appearance of painted images.

An amazing and fascinating exhibit that I saw recently. I loved the comparison paintings between Dali and Magritte and how their paths connected. Beautifully laid out. Just wonderful.

Magritte is our most valued artist, hence why he is remembered with his own museum. ;)

Totally necessary to remember such a unique artist with his own Museum.

Fascinating collision of ideas, influences and personal baggage in Magritte's work.

Informative talk from a less-than-dynamic speaker who perhaps has repeated this lecture a multitude of times, at least on the Dali side.

Thanks. But it's a pity that there are no titles.

Don't agree Dali was a better technical painter than Magritte. Unless maybe you're comparing very early Magritte works with Dali in his prime which is not a fair comparison.

Margritte delibered painted devioded of style like book illustrations .
André Breton called Margritte “ a petit bourgeois “ and Dali a buffon. André was not a nice man.

Dali also had an affair with poet Garcia-Lorca. Museums tend to ignore the homosexual subtexts or biographical background of artists.

Count the times you call Magrittes work "weird", "strange", "odd", "mysterious" a.s.o. without explaining. SO annoying. You actually do not know enough about him and his art .
