  • The burning Giraffe arrives at last. Its amazing what you can get from eBay
This is my favourite ever (in the history of ever!) arts documentary. Russell Harty visits Salvador Dali at his private museum and makes contact with the widescreen ego that is D-A-A-A-L-I-I-I-!
Sorry about the shadowing & fuzzy quality, I rescued this from a VHS recording made in the late 80s. This is generally what TV looked like pre-digital.
Dear copyright holder, when this gets taken down please make it available for public viewing again.

I've been to the museum and it's amazing to see it in this unfinished state.

Just as Russell takes up the commentary after Dali introduces the Giraffe, there is a piece of dialogue from Dali which is almost ( but not quite) disguised by Harty's Voice-Over. This is a joke of Dali's: In a Spanish hotel someone discovers a fire and runs down the corridor shouting "FIRE! FIRE!" in Spanish ("Foch! Foch!") An enraged American comes out of his room to confront the poor man, saying "Foch Yourself!" I know this because I edited this film! Listen carefully, you'll hear it!

I heard it! Lol. Harty tone irritates me throughout this doc. You gotta love Dali, the perverted charlatan he was.

Hi, only one thing. Foc is Catalan, not Spanish, for fire. In Spanish is 'fuego', but is a small detail next to your great job if you edited this so good edited video 😉 I'm happy to see Dalí is respected outside Catalonia and Spain where he is so underrated and disrespected.

You know that song Dalí is singing along with the other man... I used to dance to this when I was a very little kid at my school, In Barcelona , Spain. It is a Sardana, a very typical music from Catalonia.
For an example you can check it here /watch?v=LfFYfLoYYXs
