Building a Simple Shed for the Small Farm or Homestead - The FHC Show, ep 31

  • In this latest episode #31 of The Farm Hand's Companion Show, Pa Mac begins a short series on building a "tiny" barn for the small farm or homestead. (It's finally time to get out of the weather while milking his milk cow.) And it all begins with building a simple, old-fashioned shed. Pa Mac shows you how, using simple tools, a few trees, and some age-old farming wisdom. If you need a small shed or barn for your livestock, here's where it starts...and you can do it yourself.
    Be sure and subscribe to the Farm Hand's Companion channel to keep up with the progress as Pa Mac takes an undeveloped piece of property and turns it into a small subsistence farm. Watch for new episodes as often as Pa Mac can crank 'em out and still run a small farm. (As long as he's alive and kicking, he's most assuredly farming and filming!)
    Also visit www.farmhandsco... to find articles, posts, photographs, and encouragement for today's self-sufficient farm or homestead. (And be sure to check out the General Store for books or DVD's by Pa Mac at www.farmhandsco...)

      Hey Deborah,
      The music comes from my "Homemade" album. All the tunes on the FHC Show, are available for purchase and download on a number of fine online music outlets like iTunes and Amazon Music, etc.? music.apple.com/us/album/homemade/1213324248
      Thank you so much for askin'! (and watchin'!)

    How deep are you setting them peckerpoles?

  • @Lolicrafts
    @Lolicrafts 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    How long do those untreated poles last in ground for you? Where I live we only expect them to go for 2-5 years, then they start to rot enough to be tipsy. Any tips on further waterproofing? I've heard gravel in the hole may help with drainage but have yet to try it.

      Cedars in good shape generally will last the rest of my life. It's the other trees (oaks, hickories, gum, elm, pine) that don't last long enough to make it worth it. (1 to 2 years)

    Has to make you wonder how many 100 year old barns have 100 year old thoughts still hanging around inside that say " I shoulda done that different.... I'll be lucky if it lasts 10 years....First storm and it's coming down I bet."

      Shouldn't hurt it bad enough to damage anything if they do get to it. You'll just have tiny holes all in it. Kind of beautiful.
