I can't believe this channel doesn't have more subscribers. It is one of the most anticipated ones I await. Obviously a lot of time goes into them. I always smile when I see a new video pops up. Well Done.
I can not express my gratitude in text to the degree that I would like. This video inspired me to build a tiny barn using your design. I don't have access to a timber lot, so I had to make do with the farm store and lumber yard. I did add a four foot "porch" roof to the long front due to the summer Florida rains and I enclosed the feed trough area so Julie doesn't get her head wet. The siding is 6" wide fence pickets. It looks great! But more importantly it gives me a dry place to milk the cow. Thank you so much!
I'm so happy for you and your expanded family. Such trust between mama cow and you. I bet not many other people would be allowed that close to the helpless baby. Pa Mac is a proud papa.
When I was a nipper I helped out at a dairy farm , bringing the. Cows in for their early milking , cleaning the stalls out at weekends . Very satisfying looking after those cows . Fond memories. Great video 👍🇬🇧
I just want to say that every time I watch one of your videos I’m left feeling like this project is achievable. Even without voiceover everything is clear and simple to understand. Maybe that’s actually because there is no voice over since I’m a visual learner. Your barn videos are the ones that had me pulling logs around yesterday. 🤗
I wish more people could see and appreciate your creativity, but also what you're doing with your land. So many young people forget that all you need to get started in life is ambition and some knowledge. Thank you for sharing your journey with us.
Great video and barn build. Great timing too Ma and the baby will find comfort during harsh weather. Excellent build too. Thanks for sharing with us, always find joy watching your channel. Fred.👍👍👏🏻👏🏻👋👋🙏🏻🙏🏻
Great job on the tiny barn! When I was a kid, we had coffee cans of old rusty nails, hinges and harness parts laying around my dad's workshop. He grew up in the depression and didn't throw away anything. My first job when he was building something was to straighten the nails that we pulled from old houses on our property.
I love channel and your video are quite helpful.Thank you so much for sharing your talent to the world.I cannot wait to built my very own barn through your helpful videos.Thank you 🙏💜
@@farmhandscompanion YES! She would LOVE to come pet your baby calf. I keep going by your store to stop by and see you, but you have been closed. Are you just open on the weekends?
Hey Stime64, one of the main reasons was to be closer to my wife's and my parents in their twilight years (and to let 'em see their granddaughters a little more often). Thank you for watchin' every episode!
May i ask if the wood was green when you built this? I am thinking of building a small blacksmith shop this way but all I have are green timbers. Thank you.
As for the cedar poles, green or cured is fine, either way. It's always best to let the lumber cure awhile after millin' so their aren't big cracks between boards after they shrink a bit.
I love baby calves! What a sweet little thing...trying to get her legs under herself.😊🐝❤ That's a nice little barn. Will you add onto it when it's time for the big barn? Or start a new one?
always interesting to see folks who aren't from logging country use saws like crazy people. Seen too many mangled people to not wear a helmet and chaps....
Not sure why he had to take the time and effort to add a "dummy post" when he could've just hung the door on the right pole (it would've be sturdier, easier, and out of the way when the door was opened all the way against the wall)???
I don't suppose you could share the model chainsaw you're using and the bar length if it's not standard? I'm about to buy another stihl for my brother and I need to go milk so I can't keep looking for it :D And as ever, thank you for an informative and entertaining video
Seeing as you use nails predominantly in your videos, where do you get your nails? All the nails i get from the box stores are crappy thick wire and bend in the wind.
Hello from Tasmania, Australia. Weren't you worried about touching the calf so soon? I'm yet to have cows but thought it was a risk for rejection? Or is Tulip so domesticated it's less of an issue?
As its been explained to me, mama animals usually only abandon their babies if they smell off or wrong. Pa Mac's cow knows his smell so well, she wont mind smelling it on her baby too much. Also, thank you Pa Mac for your videos. Ive enjoyed every one of them.
Hello from Fayetteville. Has Arkansas started to feel like home now after these few years here? You seemed to have had a good setup in Tennessee from what you’ve shown us. Are you getting to the point that you’re satisfied with what you’ve developed on this new farm or is there still lots more “improvin” to do?
Please let me know the name of the music you used after your fun intro! I really, Really like the music (that is played after the intro, whilst Pa Mac is milkin' and usin' his spud to peel bark off logs!)
For the poles and sills.. does it matter what type of tree it is? You mentioned cedar but my property in North Western Ontario is flooded with birch, will using birch instead of cedar make a difference ?
Hey Tanner, for the poles that are in contact with the ground, you need a tree type that is resistant to rot. I think birch would rot too quickly as poles, but might be a good option for the horizontal sills.
@@farmhandscompanion thank you!! I love your content.. I come from a long history of farmers but unfortunately all of their knowledge wasn’t passed down. I feel the methods you teach would be relatively the exact same as what they would have done. Thank you for sharing your knowledge !

I bet Tulip and Edelweiss love their new barn. Nice work.
I'll never get tired of these stories. They're such a blessing. Edelweiss is very cute, look at'im go. :)

I luv the music line up, I've come to expect it. Please don't change it.

walk about 3 times around the bird getting it to spin in circles they quickly become dizzy then it's easy to snatch them up.

wow that looks nice i would love to build something like that on out land.. how long did it take to build it?
I heard you had a radio show as well. Is it online anywhere?
oh i forgot to ask what do you use to remove the bark?
Amazing talent! I am going to attempt the same project, did you use a chainsaw for cutting all of the boards?
How did he get that stihl to start on the first pull !?!
Is Tulip a Jersey?
Hello from Tasmania, Australia. Weren't you worried about touching the calf so soon? I'm yet to have cows but thought it was a risk for rejection? Or is Tulip so domesticated it's less of an issue?
It's never been an issue with any of my cow/calf pairs. And it's good, in my opinion, to kindly imprint on the calf as soon and as much as possible.
