  • It's finally time for Pa Mac to add a few finishing touches to his new workshop, hang his tools up, and settle in to this old fashioned pole barn, made with homemade lumber using a chainsaw mill. This 6th installment of the Building a Pole Barn series is the 12th episode which brings to an end volume one of The Farm Hand's Companion Show. A great video for showing the ins and outs of building a barn.
Be sure and subscribe to the Farm Hand's Companion channel to keep up with the progress as Pa Mac takes an undeveloped piece of property and turns it into a small subsistence farm. Watch for new episodes as often as Pa Mac can crank 'em out and still run a small farm. (As long as he's alive and kicking, he's most assuredly farming and filming!)
Also visit www.farmhandscompanion.com to find articles, posts, photographs, and encouragement for today's self-sufficient farm or homestead.

Function over form can create some wholesomely beautiful things. Every bit of barn looks like it has character since it wasn't pined over by an urban architect.

This is hands down the best, most inspiring channel on TH-cam, although my wife might disagree when I start building my pole barn. My hats off to you, Pa Mac. Great work, please keep it up, I am excited to see what is to come. Thank you for sharing these videos with us!

I agree. My grandpa used this style barn. It is a great barn. I studied barn books and designs forever. I finally picked this old style. It is still the best, imo.

Now that's some fine entertainment!! Educational and funny, Does'nt hurt to give flashbacks of our real heritage, God and family! This reminded me of the responsibility we carry after our parents have left this amazing place.... to make them proud! THANK YOU

That pole barn is a priceless treasure, it represents a part of early rural America and shows how many of us lived our lives not all that long ago. Watching that video brought back many fond memories of growing up on the old homestead. I'm hoping you make another video soon.

As a beekeeper, a woodworker and an amateur blacksmith, I find your show both educational and entertaining. I like that you've got bees on your property. I love the fact that you have your Pa Mac's anvil. Too many have ended up in the scrap yard. Keep up the hard work and best of luck.

I love this way of living.... million thumbs up!!!! Pa Mac

Awesome video. My 9 year old (the baby of 4) and I love doing wood working projects with the old tools of yesterday. She was telling me "daddy we have one of those, and a bracer and drill. Wonder if he has any jack or scrub planes". (We just bought and refurbished them is why she knows. It was turkey a pleasure and I enjoyed your shows to no end. This Texan tips his at to you dear sir and his daughter Aspen gives her most humble respect and admiration.

Pa Mac, thank you for making these videos. Takes me back to "the good ol' days", helping and "fetching" for Dad. Helping him build out buildings, sheds, chicken coops, pig pens, pole barns (simular to yours) and even a couple of houses. My Father only had a third grade education, but he was one of the smartest men I know.
Again, Thank You and keep the vids coming.

Thank you, Pa Mac, for making these wonderful videos. You know, TH-cam is full of such utter nonsense, that it is both refreshing and inspiring to see someone take pride in not only the videos they produce (that'd be you, btw) but in the work the videos are capturing. I'm a father of 4 daughters, and my wife and I are working towards purchasing land in Idaho in the next few years so that we can start our own homestead. Your pole barn is the inspiration for what I plan to do once we're on property. The barn is the 1st project!
Once again, thank you for allowing to see into your world, and I'd love to see what else goes on in your homestead. The day to day life fascinates and inspires me. God bless, and see you down the road!

Watching this video brought up so many memories of both my father (who was handy with everything) and my maternal grandfather (who had an old workshop filled with tools and snakes back in the 70's). Both have long since passed away but the lessons they instilled in me haven't.

Wow, what a piece of art. The video, editing, music, acting, the snake, the dog, the pole barn and the work. Thank you.
