      I have a degree in Electronics engineering. Another degree in Aircraft Maintenance (FAA Airframe and Powerplant certification). That means that I can sit in a chair for many years, absorb knowledge, and pass tests. You can call me a nerd or information geek, because I like to learn. So i say, "bring it on". We will see who can last the longest. I have a comfortable chair and plenty of coffee. I also like to check the TH-cam guys' factual accuracy. This video was very accurate and surprisingly correct, without going too long. The length of a video, on specific topic, is dependent upon the number of factors and phenomenon involved. Everyone's self discipline varies, I understand the boredom with data. How many chicks at the club want to hear about battery chemistry, charge rates, temperature effects....hahaha.

    In Dec, 2001 I bought a battery tender for my new 2002 Harley Davidson Softail Duece and used it religiously. The OEM Battery lasted till bike week 2011. I replaced the battery with another OEM battery and this one must of been defective because it died in one year. I bought a Duracell battery wich is the same as a Deka and a Big Crank battery and this one just died this week! So i've had really bgood luck with using these Battery tenders and I'm looking to upgrade to the 1.5 model so that I can switch it on and off all four of my motorcycles. Thanks for the informative video.

      "a CTEK xs0.8 - what I'm considering - plugged in for 6 months" Well, with the price of batteries today, I'd incorporate a TIMER when using any Battery Tender ! - Folks should know that they will dry out your cells if continuously plugged-in (No matter how low the amperage, they in fact still heat up the cells, this KILLS the battery !). Better to have these battery Tenders first plugged into a TIMER; I set mine for only four hours a day. This allows the battery to cool down & not get to the point of 'boiling'; less chance of drying out the lifeblood of the battery.

      Hello, thanks for watching our video. We carry Battery Tender's Solar Power Charger, not sure if that will work as a solution for you? It's here on our website: www.chapmoto.com/battery-tender-solar-power-charger.html

    • @UntakenNick

      Just disconnect the positive terminal during storage months.

    • @josephsteffen2378
      @josephsteffen2378 ปีที่แล้ว

      You could remove the batteries and maintain them where you live. Or go solar, if possible. There are solar powered battery "maintainer" devices that apply just enough voltage, at a tiny amount of current, to keep them healthy and don't boil out the electrolyte over a few months. One way that batteries go dead is from the positive terminal/post to the frame or to the negative terminal. The path is along the side of the battery or across the top. The conductor is the film of battery acid and dirt on the outside surface of the battery. Though it's not much, it will drain a battery in a week or two. Remember when people would say, "don't leave a battery on a cement floor "? That was due to the current following the path of the electrolyte down the side of the battery. If you clean the battery and the area around it, there shouldn't be any problem.

    So im cofused with the battery tender. Is it thay once the battery dies its gone for good and needs replacement? Or does the tender charge the battery ? If so then why do i need to keep plugged in whole winter? Cant i just charge it a day before i want to ride and itll be good until next winter storage?

    • @chaparralmotorsports
      @chaparralmotorsports  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Otto, depending on the battery and its condition if it's dead sometimes it can be recharged. However, it's not good to continually just let the battery completely drain/die--doing this causes damage to the battery and reduces it's overall life span. Ideally you want to use a Battery Tender or some type of device to maintain the battery and keep it in good condition when not in use. This will not only extend the life and performance of the battery but it will be ready to go when you are. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching.

    I charged my battery when I winterized my waverunner and I unplugged the charger when it was fully charged and left the battery sit for 8 months and now I put the battery back on charger and it's taking forever to charge. Is it a good idea to leave a battery sit when not on charger for 8 months before charging it again?

    • @chaparralmotorsports
      @chaparralmotorsports  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No it's not really ideal to let the battery sit off the charger. The Battery Tender cycles on and off to maintain the proper state of the battery.

    • @bobbydenezza7795
      @bobbydenezza7795 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@chaparralmotorsports Well I left the battery tender charger on the battery for the whole 8 months and it actually broke my battery tender charger. Do i charge this outside (cold), in a heated area (such as a boiler room), or indoors? I believe i read the cold wont be good for the charge and that I should avoid using it on living space. That pretty much leaves the warm boiler room as my only option. Is that ok?

    • @chaparralmotorsports
      @chaparralmotorsports  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello, yes you should try to keep your battery away from extreme temperatures such as extreme heat our cold. When chagrining or maintaining your battery to to do so in a moderate climate to help preserve the life of your battery. Not sure about the temperature of your boiler room so you should get a reading and then refer to the battery and or battery maintenance device for temperature recommendations.
