Australia's Black Aborigines

  • Aborigines have been referred to as Black Australian's. Today I am out in the community of Redfern in Sydney, Australia to interview aboriginals...Australia's first inhabitants. As a highly marginalized community, aboriginals suffer disproportionately more from poverty, alcoholism and chronic health diagnoses.

As an American living in Sydney, Australia and who literally works on that street (Regent Street, Waterloo) this interviewer made me cringe!🤦🏾‍♂️ It’s not “Aborigians”! It’s either “Aboriginal”, “Indigenous Australian”, “Black Fullas”, or refer to them as the tribe they identify with, “Wiradjuri, Ngemba, Kamilaroi, Bundjalung, etc.” . . . And yes, they are black. One of the oldest (65,000-150,000+ years ago) groups of black people on this planet. The earliest black people to step foot off the African continent. The black man is THE original man in this universe. These people are original in every sense of the word.

I think black African and Afro-diasporan people think that only Africans are black, when really, in the colonial era, the British gave the name black to all the peoples they encountered whose skin was melanated, even Indians. I think since there are more Africans, they assume that they are what is meant by being black in the colonial sense (not the pre-colonial African people who apparently did call themselves "black people" in their own languages, like Yoruba and Sudanese).

"Aborigines have been referred to as Black Australian's."
They haven't just been referred to as this. This is the name the British colonizers gave them and which they now use for themselves, much like Americans. The reference is to their skin, and not to them being presumably African. Africans by and large did not originate the 5 race hypothesis, but rather western European elites who wanted to conquer, without feeling guilty, did, it seems.

    The singular is "Aboriginal"
Black man or Black Fella amongst themselves,
When referring to a "Mob" the term Aborigines
Australia has a law called the "white Australia policy" which is kind of similar to the Jim Crowe? Laws. It was only in the early 70's when the (WAP) was abolished then the Aborigines were legally counted as human beings and not categorized as "Flora and Fauna"
Secondly Australia also took part in what was known as
"Black Birding" when wooden ships would sail to the pacific islands and kidnap islanders of the beaches and brought them back to Australia to work as slaves on the plantations.
There is a photo if thatch houses on the wall in the Bundaberg Rum factory. The caption reads something like.
"Workers Houses" I'm pretty sure if you were called a worker then you also got paid. Lol
Australia has come a very long way since then. However the underlying narrative is not one of racism but one of lack of education.

I know some that call themselves by their respective nations/territorie’s name, - Murray, Larrakia people etc (don’t trust my spelling). This guy was very kind and patient in dealing with what I imagine he would have seen as nonsense. He was just doing like he said, “whatever he wants to do, it’s his land”, which happened to be - casually munching in the street like anyone else would do then -
“Hey, I’m black, your black, what kind of rough was it for you?, native Americans, Aborinjiuns”. Absolute comedy gold!

Haha unc is talkin bout that white woman who walked past. he was sayin "i dont like the blak ones i like the white ones"
reffering to white women. Then unk said "im blak but i like the white ones" then somethin bout "ima go get her for my dinner" or ima make her my tidda im Not sure haha.
Redfern was originally gifted to all indigenous peoples from Lord Redfern who had stables there in the early days of the colony.
Pretty sure he broke his leg or somethin and a blak fulla saved him and helped him back home. He was forever greatful.
It became basically the main community in the city and was the only place blak fullas from all mobs around australia could build an inner city community at that time with minimal persecution...
Nowdays the white mans developers, policing and systematic gentrification have left but remnants of the community that was...
Ps. Dont say aboriginie or aborigones or whatever you was sayin. Very racist term.
And nowdays mob generally say Blak not Black...
Blak culture and issues; although intertwined deeply with the "black" issues of the African diaspora; have there own intrinsic history, culture and importance.
The european white man always grouped all people withblack skin as Black.
BLAK takes the word back for all hundreds of individual first nations and cultures in so called australia.
    One mob made of many.
    Always was always will be.

Aboriginals are probably decended from the first humans cause the first humans were black. They are one of the oldest and blackest people on the planet to ever step foot of the African continent. They are considered African too. They have the same DNA to all kinds of black people like Kenyans, Nigerians, Ghanians, Tanzanians, Dravidians, Namibians, Sentinelese, Congolese, Rwandans, Sengalese, Zulus, Khoisans, Swahilis, New Guineans, Gambians, Zambians, Liberians, Malawians, Andamanese, Jamacians, Hattians, Guyanese, other negritos, even Indignous Asians who are black tribes of Asia. The world belongs to the Black Man who is the Original Man of the universe. A lot of things evolved from the Black man.

Also talk to some aboriginal mentors to learn about the history and culture so that your aware to make your questions a bit more understandable to them
