- Ripping out a shop front and rebuilding it in Flemish bond to match the neighbouring side. Replicating the cambered arch and building into the existing RSJ, explaining as I go and sharing the difficulties with the existing RSJ. #bricklaying #tips #Flemmish bond

Nice job, and it blends in really well with the existing. I'm a builder/bricklayer myself but in my twilight years now, and watching your video is making me want to jump on the line with you, it's been a long time since I did any Flemish, and it just happens to be my favourite bond, well done.

Made my day with memories of building my house 40 odd years back. So refreshing to know that Flemish bond is still up there. Spoke to a young lad starting out and he has yet to do any work other than stretcher and bucket handle pointing. He had never heard of lime mortar which suprised me. Loved the nice touch of the camber arch over the window and a proper looking cill.

Very nice job. I never had the patience to learn bricklaying. I had a very good friend who could lay bricks and blocks and stones from the time we were ten years old. I always admired his patience. Maybe after watching you I will give it a try, patience has set in as I got older. Thank you for the great content.

Impressive, I was annoyed that you were leaving that big beam, I was surprised when you bricked over it, very cool.
It could have been removed no problem however, the cost was going to shoot their budget over what they wanted to pay!!

Cracking job Chris , I’m a time served Brickie myself who gave up the trade in my late 20’s to take up a completely different career path - I seen far too many old Scottish brickies bent , stooped , broken and riddled with arthritis with the cold damp weather at home - I digress , it’s great seeing the easy skill you show on your vids and I whooped with delight when I correctly predicted how you were going to overcome facing the RSJ with cuts etc . What is a furrness brick ? Does it mean the bricks were fired in a furness or the brick are made for use in a furness, e.g. a fire bricks ?
Its a company in Cumbria (Furness) they make the bricks and match them

@@foundationgood123 я имел ввиду что это какой-то слоёный пирог вижу внутри стена из шлакоблока без перевязки в пол блока потом кирпичная кладка в четверть кирпича это что такое. Уже молчу что там ещё двутавровая балка как прекрасный проводник холода и рядом ещё деревянная балка чтобы совсем нас запутать.

It was a challenge I used the “Pistol brick” where the bricks are conveniently cut out in order to create the lip!
So David Moyes has gone back to bricklaying.
And I should have said I didn't realise David was a master of his craft and a man to be admired.

The big double RSJ steel was already installed many years ago because the original house front was converted into a big shop frontage, I was reinstating the original frontage and the owners didn’t want the huge cost of removing the steels!
Do you not use formers anymore? It’s lucky you’re very good but if you had an apprentice you might get the reveal plumb.
You’re not making sense bud…The brick arch is being built over an arch former…if I had an apprentice you might get the reveal plum (what do you mean?)

If your bricking up the opening couldn’t you have done away with the steel all together as it’s not really doing much now the shop fronts gone
I could have no problem, however the client didn’t want to pay the extra costs of removing them!!
