@@websitewiz You are welcome. One question, since I added the client ID the window pops up and immediately disappears. Any idea? Or any video you created regarding that issue. It seems many have this issue. Thanks again.
Hi Mike, The Smart Button checks back with PayPal constantly to make sure everything is working as PayPal thinks it should be. So: 1. Make sure there are no restrictions on your PayPal account. If there are, see this article: www.paypal.com/be/smarthelp/article/how-do-i-remove-the-restriction-from-my-account-faq2189 2. Make sure the Live Client ID you've replace the "sb" part with, is an _exact_ copy of the one PayPal gave you. If not the pop-up will cancel (disappear) when checked for authenticity. 3. Try one of the simpler, stand-alone, non-smart buttons, that doesn't require API calls to work. 4. If you still want to use the Smart Button though, and you have no restrictions on your account and the Live Client ID is correct, it's time to contact PayPal support here: www.paypal.com/au/smarthelp/home Hope this helps Mike.

How does this work for shopping cart applications though? My website allows customers to design/order screen printed apparel, so obviously no two order amounts are going to be the same. I need PayPal to handle the transaction, but the transaction amount is dynamically generated (depending on what they're ordering). This approach seems a bit redundant, as you've got to generate a separate button for each individual item in your store. My website uses a "shopping cart" approach, where the user builds an order and then "checkout" is the final step, and I need PP to capture payment for the full cart total.
Hi Sixstanger00, yes you're right that this approach is tedious for those with larger stores that need to generate a lot of buttons and have dynamic pricing based on variable product options. However, we do mention that at the beginning of the video, and only recommend this method for those with smaller stores and low start up budgets. This button doesn't provide you with an entire e-commerce solution. But it does allow you to take payments on your website with no upfront setup costs. th-cam.com/video/C-thWrCUYFs/w-d-xo.html From what you've said that you need, this system would work, but there are many paid shopping cart integrations that plug into PayPal more seamlessly and easily, which would work better.
Hi Shickler, you're welcome 😃 Yes, you would have to create multiple Smart buttons. However, the PayPal 'Smart' button is recommended for those who sell only a few simple products or want a donation. If you have more than a few products, and want to offer your customer the option to checkout with many products, all at once (in one checkout), then we would recommend using the ‘Add to Cart’ button for your store. This will allow your customer to buy a combination of products from different categories and pages, all within one order. Using the ‘Add to Cart’ button, you’re able to create a shopping cart (for multiple products) which would probably work better than the ‘Smart’ button, which is best used for single products only. This allows your customer to go back and add more products to their cart, before paying and in doing so, streamlines the entire shopping experience for them. You will need to create a different button for each product, but this is the case with any online store. For each product you have, you need a button. To learn more about the ‘Add to Cart’ button we've made a video on that here: th-cam.com/video/C-thWrCUYFs/w-d-xo.html Hope this helps!
This is extremely helpful. I have a question though, does it mean you have to create a button for every product on the website when they a differently priced
Hi, yes that's right. You would need to create a different button for individual products on your website. As such this button is only appropriate when you have less than 10 products.
Hi Wiz, please help! I used this guide a few months ago and it worked perfectly. I just tried to create a new button and the page shown at 2:20 doesn't show up anymore. It just takes me to a developer site where it talks about code. Is this functionality no longer available?
Hi Nicolas, it does appear that PayPal has made some changes to their button pages since we created this video over a year ago. From what we can see it now needs to be coded in to work. If you're not familiar with coding, you'll need to outsource this. Another option would be to connect to PayPal through one of the paid website platforms out there such as Wix, Squarespace etc. Or a third option would be to use a different button type such as 'Add to Cart' or 'Buy Now'. We have another video that shows how to set these buttons up here: th-cam.com/video/C-thWrCUYFs/w-d-xo.html Hope this helps!

Hi, you're very welcome! We're so glad it was helpful 😃 Sorry to hear it isn't working for you. When it comes to pasting code into your website, there is a key thing to remember and that is that if you change even just one character, that shouldn't be changed, or delete something that needs to be there, it will break the button, and won't perform as it should. It's possible that this is the reason why, but unfortunately, it's very hard to troubleshoot without looking at it. Question: On my current website I have used the PayPal buttons with dropdown menus. Shopping for a different website builder, I find many do not allow HTML snippets however do allow a one line PayPal account name or email address in a button. I'm not understanding how this works, do you know?
Hi Melvin, with the modern website builders they usually code the buttons directly into their own systems automatically, meaning you wouldn't use your existing PayPal buttons anymore. You would just need to add your email address / PayPal account name to your website builder account settings and they do the rest. By the sounds of it your current website is using standalone PayPal buttons, which wouldn't be necessary with the newer website builders. Hope this helps answer your question.

Hi Rocky, thank you for your suggestions. If you have pasted the code into your web page and the button is not showing up, that could mean there is an error in the code. We suggest starting again from the beginning and go through step by step to make sure the code is correct. Even adding an extra period, or comma etc. will break the coding so that the button won't work. Hope this helps!
Hi Zabii, usually the fees are based on each transaction value. Last time we checked it was a small flat fee + a percentage of the transaction value. But the exact rates may vary depending on your banking location and other factors, such as your customer's location etc. Best bet would be to do a Google search for "PayPal Merchant Fees (ADD YOUR COUNTRY)" for more info or contact PayPal direct: www.paypal.com/us/smarthelp/contact-us Hope this helps!
I have an education site, so my products are services rather than physical items. In a non-shopping cart scenario like mine, how do you determine whether the buyer's payment was approved or not? If approved, how do you redirect them to, in my case, the lesson page? How do you prevent the tech savvy buyer from 'viewing' the page, obtaining your client-id and forwarding URL to bypass the payment page altogether? Thanks for any help.
Hi Jeff, Great question! I can only give general educational advice of course, as I'm not a qualified business advisor. That said, building an educational site with the requirements you're specifying, these simple stand-alone PayPal buttons won't be able to do what you need, unless you are able to code them to do more. And even If coding is an option for you, it will require so much expertise and upkeep, you'd probably be better off paying for an already-built e-commerce system that does what you need out-of-the-box, such as WooCommerce, BigCommerce or Shopify. A quick comparison of these three is: 1. WooCommerce - the cheapest (free), but it has the greatest learning curve of the three. 2. BigCommerce - cheaper overall than Shopify but with a greater the learning curve than Shopify. 3. Shopify - the easiest to implement, but the most expensive solution, in our opinion, over the long term. I'd contact each of their customer-service departments and ask specific questions about whether they can do what you need, especially asking if their software can detect when payments are made, and if so, whether it then able to redirect customers to specific "paid only" pages. Hope this helps.

I suddenly gave up and returned to my older standby PayPal *Buy* *It* *Now* Buttons which i've used for years. Any thoughts? Where did I fail to look?
Hi Tuck, that's a great question! Any reason you specifically need a smart button, compared to an Buy Now button? As far as we know there's no way to save your Smart buttons, in order to achieve the 3 different buttons you're wanting.
@@websitewiz Well, that's actually great news for me! I was worried the new fangled smart button was about to replace my usual go-to PayPal Buy Now Buttons. Steady as she goes!

Hi Jem, glad you found the video helpful 💜 As far as we know these buttons are available on both a personal and business account. For a business account, there is no monthly subscription fee. However, PayPal does deduct a fee + a percentage of the transaction amount for each order. Hope this helps!
To the point & intuitive! It would be nice if you could add another video using Stripe. Is the process different when you are using Wordpress? Thanks in advance.
Hi Mour, thanks so much! 💜 Yes, the process is the same when using Wordpress. It's just a matter of adding the HTML snippet to your Wordpress page / post. Hope this helps!
Hi Mike, Using the Smart button shown in this video, PayPal only knows what the payment is for based on the info you provide when setting up the button - in the field 'Item Description'. It's in no way connected to your website or dynamic products on your site. It's a standalone button on PayPal only. Once a payment is complete using the button, PayPal displays a successful payment message. If you need to redirect your customers to another page after they purchase, then we recommend using a different button for that. The 'Smart' button requires coding to make that work. So the easiest way would be to use another button that allows redirection to another page as part of setting up your button. You can do this easily using PayPal's 'Buy Now' or 'Add to Cart' buttons. These are located on the same page as the ‘Smart’ button of your PayPal account, as shown in the video. There is a field listed for redirection. This is the easiest way we have found to redirect a customer to another page after purchase. Please note that it is not a secure link. Meaning that once a person knows the redirection URL, when they land on it, they will be able to access it anytime. If you want a more secured option, where the URL only loads after confirming that a person is a paying customer, this would need to be coded in and required a more advanced setup. If you're not familiar with coding, in that case you'd be best to pay for a third party platform to manage this function for you and avoid the standalone PayPal buttons altogether. We hope this helps answer your question.
Hi Stefan, yes it is possible to offer more than one option. Under 'Button type' select 'Variable price'. This will then act like a donate button. Alternatively, PayPal does have a donate button which is specifically designed for donations. You can access this button on the same page as the Smart buttons here: www.paypal.com/buttons
@@websitewiz Hey cool :) Well yes I am aware of PayPal donation button but I would ike to use this not as a donation button but more like a "buy me coffee"support button. Hi Stefan, from what you've said the best solution is to custom design your own button, so that you can change the text on your button to say "buy me a coffee" etc. We have created a video on how to do that here: th-cam.com/video/R--p1nr9f8I/w-d-xo.html Hope this helps! 😃
Thank you for the beautiful comment Robyn! 💜 And thank you for your great suggestion for a future video. 😃 To add a PayPal smart button to your WordPress site, do the steps in the video up to the 04:15 mark, where you press "Copy Code" on the PayPal website, then do the following 10 steps: 1. Paste the code into a text editor such as Notepad and save it. Note: This step isn't vital, but helpful if anything goes wrong in the later steps. 2. Log into your WordPress site. 3. From the Dashboard go to Pages > All pages. 4. Select the page you want to add the Smart Button code to. 5. Press "Edit." 6. Edit the page in HTML mode by switching from visual to HTML. 7. Paste the PayPal Button code onto the page where you want it to appear. 8. Update the page. 9. Preview the page and make sure it's orientation looks right. 10. Test the "Pay with PayPal" and "Debit or Credit" buttons and make sure all of the details such as the description, price, tax, etc., are correct. Hope this helps Robyn.
Some e-commerce platforms allow PayPal to collect payments, but they can only authorize your PayPal and cannot change the code. If you cannot change the code, you cannot integrate PayPal credit card payment. What should you do at this time?
Hi Asmnuimna, thanks for your question. It is not possible to integrate PayPal payments using the method in this video on all e-commerce platforms, as part of their integrated PayPal system. The method shown in the video is for "stand-alone" buttons and not integrated solutions, like what you mentioned. As such, yes, it is not possible to change any coding if it is an integrated solution as part of a paid e-commerce plan. However, the advantage of those set ups is that you don't need to code anything. Hope this helps.

Hi Ptah, thanks for your question. Yes, you can create multiple PayPal buttons for different services. However, the customer won't be able to "order" multiple services at one time using this button. If they want to buy multiple services at once, it would be best to use the 'Add to Cart' button. If you need this kind of flexibility, we have a video showing you how to do that here: th-cam.com/video/C-thWrCUYFs/w-d-xo.html You can also use the Smart button to create a dropdown menu for each service, all within one single button. Hi Bharat, *What is live webhooks?* To summarize Wikipedia, a webhook is a method of increasing the usefulness of a web page or web app by triggering actions based on an initial action. An action completed by the user starts the process. In the case of Cookies, the action can be as simple as just visiting the site. That one action triggers one or more messages to be sent to one or more other places on the web, triggering even more actions, and so on and so on. Some simple examples of webhooks are: • A comment being posted to a blog ticks up the count of comments by one. • Cookies that track where you go and what you do online. • A date and time on your calendar app that triggers an alarm on your computer and an email sent to your email account, reminding you of an appointment. • A sale on your shopping website triggering an email to be sent to the client confirming their order and another to you, to your fulfilment department and to your shipping department. • A new sign-up triggers a welcome email to be sent to the new subscriber. *Is it mandatory to fill?* As to what is mandatory to fill, I don’t know Bharat? You’ll have to provide more information. Thanks. Hope this helps.
I think I'm confused. Now, I have a Shopify store, and only PayPal. I've enabled "Account Optional" from PP's settings, and seemingly it still doesn't allow customers to pay via credit card. Does this really work?
Hi Howard, the guest checkout option (or "account optional") is only allowed by PayPal as long as several risk factors are not present during checkout. These include, but are not limited to, 1. The buyer's PayPal purchase history. 2. Any negative cookies stored on the buyer's computer. 3. The buyer's location. 4. A credit assessment. If any of these factors raise a red flag for PayPal, they'll ask your buyer to log into their PayPal account, or create a new account, regardless of your option settings. Hope this helps clarify things.
Hi Howard, yes this is the only way to enable the guest checkout option. If you would like to see how to do that, please check out this video we created here: th-cam.com/video/b1cFAZhAQ54/w-d-xo.html

I did try calling PayPal and had a chat with one of their reps whom said that they only provide an auto generated PayPal receipt of purchase - but that one’s web service provider might be able to do this - although if the purchase is happening solely through the PayPal smart button - I’m not sure how that could integrate yet.
Hi, you're welcome! 😃 Great idea on calling PayPal to check if there was a solution they could provide. That would have been the easiest and most ideal way to handle this. We also spent some time researching this for you and came up with the following solution: Use automation software to connect PayPal and your Email program together. Basically, you use software which triggers your Email account to send an automated email every time you receive a payment to your PayPal account. There are 3 automation platforms that we think would work well for what you want to do: 1. www.zapier.com 2. www.automate.io 3. www.make.com (Also known as Integromat) PayPal is considered a premium app with Zapier and Automate, so you would need a paid plan to make it work with them. But Make.com has a free plan that will work with PayPal. However, Zapier looks to be the easiest to use, but is the most expensive. Automate is affordable with plans starting at $9 / month. And Make has, as I mentioned, a limited free plan, which you could use to make this work. But we did find it to have more of a learning curve than the other two. All of them of course have a learning curve though. If you are going to use Make.com, we recommend you watch these videos first: 1. th-cam.com/video/AmILvt7zRJs/w-d-xo.html 2. th-cam.com/video/V99tPHcqHzE/w-d-xo.html Hope this helps!
Hi Vaibhaav, Please find below the steps for how to add a QR code to your store: *Step 1: Generate the PayPal Button* a. Log in to PayPal: Go to your PayPal account dashboard. b. Create a Button: --- Navigate to the "Pay & Get Paid" tab or go to PayPal Button Generator. --- Choose the type of button you want to create (e.g., Buy Now, Add to Cart). --- Customize the button details such as item name, price, and shipping options. --- Generate the button and copy the URL or embed code. *Step 2: Create a QR Code* a. Generate the QR Code: Use a QR code generator tool (e.g., QR Code Generator, or PayPal QR). b. Paste the URL of your PayPal button into the QR code generator. c. Customize the QR code design if needed. d. Download the QR code in a suitable format (PNG or SVG). *Step 3: Add the QR Code to Your Store* a. Upload the QR code image and place it where it will be visible to customers. f. Provide Instructions: Add text next to the QR code explaining how customers can use it (e.g., "Scan this QR code to complete your payment via PayPal"). *Additional Tips:* --- Test the QR Code: Ensure the QR code links to the correct PayPal button and functions as expected. --- Optimize Placement: Place the QR code in prominent areas such as near product descriptions or on the checkout page. --- Mobile-Friendly Store: Ensure your website is mobile-friendly, as most users will scan the QR code using their smartphones. --- By adding a PayPal QR code to your store, you provide an easy and seamless payment method that enhances the shopping experience. Hope this helps!
Do you know where the smart button generator page has gone? Instead of seeing the smart button code generator paypal now takes you to a developers coding page since April
Hi Paul, we've noticed that PayPal has been making some changes to their button pages of late and so it could be that this has moved or no longer available. Best bet would be to contact PayPal directly for help.
Hi Richard, you're welcome! 😃 If the Client ID in the code does not match your own Client ID, then you can just overwrite it with your own. Hope this helps!
Hi Salahuddin, for multiple products we would recommend using the Paypal 'Add to Cart' button instead. To learn more about the ‘Add to Cart’ button we've made a video on that here: th-cam.com/video/C-thWrCUYFs/w-d-xo.html Hope this helps!
Hi Salahuddin, sorry to hear that! We have both a business and personal account, and it appears in both types of account at our end. As there could be many reasons why it's not working, we recommend you contact PayPal support directly so they can work out why and provide a solution. www.paypal.com/au/smarthelp/home
Hi Tess, thanks for the great question. It took quite a bit of researching but it was great; we learned heaps doing it. Are you using a Personal Plan? If so, Squarespace will not let you use tags on your website, and therefore they will not work. If you're using a free trial or a Business Plan or above, "Script Disabled" is coming up automatically. It's the default message when you paste in scripts in edit mode. Squarespace does this to avoid scripts that cause problems while you're in edit mode. If so, try these 4 steps: 1. Choose "HTML" in the code block where you are going to insert the code, whether it's HTML or not. 2. Do NOT check Display Source. 3. Click the "Preview in safe mode" button. 4. Click the "Exit safe mode" button. The button should now be there. If not, log out (of edit mode) and refresh the page. Is the button there now? If it's not there while logged out, open an incognito window and check if it's there. Hope this helps Tess. But if the button's still not there, let us know and we'll investigate further.
Hi there! this video is awesome but I was wondering how to make the button for a checkout as a whole, like if someone choose multiple items to buy and not just one? How would that button be made, what option would I have to choose?
Hi Pamela, to do this you would need to use a different button. Instead of the PayPal 'Smart' button, choose the 'Add to Cart' button. It is located on the same page as the ‘Smart’ button of your PayPal account, as shown in the video. Please note, there is also a ‘View Cart’ button, which you would place in the header of your site too, which allows your customer to view their shopping cart while they’re shopping. Make sure to include this on your site too. Hope this helps!
@@websitewiz Hello! Can we use this smart button in order to propose multiple products? I want to give the choice to the customer to use PayPal or his credit card… can you please help me? I also have a question: where can I a add the shipping cost ? I don’t want to add it for every product… thank youuu
Hi Lamia, thanks for your questions. The PayPal 'Smart' button unfortunately can't be used to checkout multiple products. But there is another button which can do that, which is the ‘Add to Cart’ button. Using the ‘Add to Cart’ button, you’re able to create a shopping cart (for multiple products). This allows your customer to go back and add more products to their cart, before paying. With this button you can give the customer the choice to pay with PayPal or through a guest checkout using credit card only. This button allows you to add a shipping cost, but unfortunately it is not a very practical solution. The ‘Add to Cart’ button is located on the same page as the ‘Smart’ button of your PayPal account, as shown in the video. There is also a ‘View Cart’ button which you would place in the header of your site, that allows your customer to view their shopping cart while they’re shopping. In fact, we are currently working on a new video to show you how to create this 'Add to Cart' button and put it on your website, so we'll send you a link once that's live on our channel.
Hi Salaudeen, thanks for your question! To determine if your PayPal account is in Sandbox mode, you can look for a few key indicators: 1. **URL Check**: Check the URL when you are logged in. If the URL contains "sandbox.paypal.com", you are in the Sandbox environment. The regular PayPal accounts operate under "paypal.com". 2. **Dashboard Appearance**: When you log into the PayPal Sandbox environment, the interface typically mentions "Sandbox" somewhere on the dashboard, often at the top or in the account overview section. 3. **Email Notifications**: If you receive email notifications from PayPal and they mention "Sandbox" or "Test Email" within the subject or body, it's a clear indication that the actions are being performed in a Sandbox environment. 4. **Testing Features**: If you're able to perform tests without real money transactions and with test data, such as using test credit card numbers, this is another sign that you're in the Sandbox environment. If you're developing or testing integrations and you're unsure or need to switch between modes, you might need to log out from one environment and log in to another with the appropriate credentials. Hope this helps!
Hi, thanks for your question. If you need to redirect your customers to another page after payment then we recommend using a different button for that. We have a video on those buttons here: th-cam.com/video/C-thWrCUYFs/w-d-xo.html This is the easiest way we have found to redirect a customer to another page after purchase. We hope this helps!
Hi Hamza, thanks for the compliment 😃 The PayPal Smart button is best used for just a few products. We have a video on how to create these buttons here: th-cam.com/video/C-thWrCUYFs/w-d-xo.html Hope this helps!

Actually I want to remove the express checkout button from my Wix e-commerce website as when people select it they are automatically redirected to PayPal and shipping is not getting calculated. So can you please let me know how can I just remove the PayPal express checkout button from the checkout page? Thankyou so muchhh☺️

Very helpful tutorial - thank you! I know that PayPal will email a response to me after a client submits a payment - but is there any way that PayPal can communicate a response back - either directly to the client's browser, or via an api back to my own web server. Some sort of response code to indicate if transaction was successful or not?
Hi, thanks for your question. As far as we know there isn't a way to do make PayPal communicate a response back as such but it could be possible with programming knowledge. Alternatively, you could use a third-party automation platform that performs an action (such as a 'response') based on events (such as a 'successful payment') Basically, the automation software is connected to your PayPal account and your email program. You then use the software to trigger your Email account to send an automated email every time you receive a payment to your PayPal account. There are 3 automation platforms that we think would work well for what you want to do: 1. www.zapier.com 2. www.automate.io 3. www.make.com (Also known as Integromat) PayPal is considered a premium app with Zapier and Automate, so you would need a paid plan to make it work with them. Hi, you're welcome! 😃 Redirecting to a secure confirmation page which includes a secure download link is an advanced feature and would require some server-side coding to make it work. If you're not familiar with coding, your best bet would be to pay for a premium solution that includes this download option as part of your website builder. E.g. a Wordpress plugin, or a Wix business plan etc. where it's all taken care of for you. If you go the coding route, the first thing we'd recommend is using PayPal's 'Buy Now' or 'Add to Cart' buttons. Not the 'Smart' button. Reason being is that they both include a 'redirect to URL after payment' option when setting up the buttons. You could include a URL where your digital product is located. That said, to make it secure you'd still need to do some custom coding. And unfortunately we don't have the coding skills to tell you how to do this. Here is a link to the PayPal forum where a user had a similar question as you: www.paypal-community.com/t5/Selling-on-your-website/Automatic-download-after-payment/td-p/556398 Hope this helps!
Hi Raja, thanks for your question. It is not easy to set up a redirection for this particular button. The 'Smart' button requires coding to make that work. So, the easiest way to do this would be to use another button. One that includes a redirection option as part of setting up the button in the first place. You can do this easily using PayPal's 'Buy Now' or 'Add to Cart' buttons. These buttons include a field for a redirection page as part of set up. These buttons are located on the same page as the ‘Smart’ button of your PayPal account, as shown in the video. Please note, if you use the 'Add to Cart' button, there is also a ‘View Cart’ button, which you would place in the header of your site too, which allows your customer to view their shopping cart while they’re shopping. Sincere thanks for the wonderful video😀. Please advise me on how to make this work for selling digital products, if you don't mind. by either emailing the customer a download link or allowing them to download everything at once from the website? Many thanks
Hi, we're glad you liked the video 😃 Unfortunately, this is an advanced feature and would require some server-side coding to make it work. I have a problem where when I add a quantity of a product the price doesn’t get refreshed and when I check the price it’s always the old one not the price with new quantity ?
Hi Benti, this PayPal 'Smart' button doesn't offer the customer an option to choose different quantities. If you want to offer this option, we suggest using the 'Add to Cart' button. We've made a video on that here: th-cam.com/video/C-thWrCUYFs/w-d-xo.html
This is extremely helpful. Thank you Tracey. Once a customer pays, how can I send an email confirmation straight after payment? I am hosting a workshop and I have the paypal part sorted, it's just the email confirmation.
Hi Kavisha, we're so glad you found the video helpful! PayPal sends your customer an automated email directly after payment confirming their purchase. As the seller, you'll also get a confirmation email to your inbox informing you of the new order. Good luck with your workshop! 😃
As far as we know you can't customize the email from PayPal. The only way we know of to send an automated custom email after payment would be through a paid ecommerce solution, such as Wix, Shopify etc., that handles the whole checkout system for you in one place. Such platforms give you more control over these functions and would include everything for the ordering process including product pages, checkout system, payment processing, emails and order tracking etc. But unfortunately PayPal doesn't offer this.
Hi, thank you for your question! if you need to redirect your customers to a specific page on your website after successful payment, then we recommend using a different button for that. The 'Smart' button requires coding to make that work. The easiest way is to use another button that allows easy redirection. And that is PayPal's 'Buy Now' button. It's located on the same page as the ‘Smart’ button of your PayPal account, as shown in the video. This is the easiest way we have found to redirect a customer to another page after purchase. We hope this helps!
Hi Marych, you're welcome! Unfortunately the Smart button can't be linked to coupon/discount codes. The only way to do that would be through a third party e-commerce platform that integrates the coupon/discount codes before you get to the payment page. Sorry we couldn't help more.
@@Marych14 You're welcome! 😃 The main one we know of that allows you to take payments on Wordpress sites is WooCommerce. We haven't personally used them, but we've heard some good things. woocommerce.com/posts/coupons-with-woocommerce/
Hi, i did all steps an the new payment options appear on my cart page, but only paypal button is active and the credit card option is not doing any action. How to solve that please?
Hi there, we suggest you contact PayPal directly for help with that issue. As it should be working if you completed all steps in the video. Sorry we couldn't help more.
Hi Faisal, thank you for your question. It does appear that PayPal has made some changes to their button options for personal accounts since we created this video over a year ago. To access checkout features for payment processing, it appears you will need to upgrade to a business account. To do that, navigate to the following page: www.paypal.com/myaccount/profile Scroll down to the bottom of the page and where it says 'Unlock new features like express checkout' click the link: 'Upgrade to a Business account'. Then follow the prompts through to completion. Hope this helps!
@@faisal-ahmad Hi Faisal, you're welcome. As far as we know it's free to upgrade to a business account. However, any fees that PayPal then charges to process your payments etc. can be found directly on their website. Be sure to check the pricing page for your bank's location. We recommend Googling "Seller PayPal Fees in (COUNTRY)". Hope this helps 😃 Disclaimer: Please recognise that we aren’t financial nor business advisers and can only give you the benefit of our experience from our own personal perspectives. Strange, after I select "Smart Buttons" I don't get the button preview page as shown. Instead, I'm taken to a page with lists of options where there only seems to be instructions ... but no preview.
Hi Rob, unfortunately PayPal is no longer offering standalone payment solutions, such as their Smart Button, without coding it in directly, or using one of their partner applications, such as Wix, Squarespace etc. If you want to take the coding path, please check out this page on PayPal's website to get started: developer.paypal.com/docs/checkout/standard/ Otherwise, the only other way to connect PayPal buttons to your website is to sign up for a paid solution as mentioned above. Hope this helps!
Hi Bernard, no this button wouldn’t work for subscription payments. There are 2 other buttons (on the same page of your PayPal account) called ‘Smart Subscribe’ and ‘Subscribe’. Both of these work for subscription payments.
Hi Yoneyris, you could use the Add to Cart button instead for more than one product. We made a video about that button here: th-cam.com/video/C-thWrCUYFs/w-d-xo.html Hope this helps!
Hey, the video was very helpful. But I'm having problem with the checkout page, it says the merchant doesn't accept payment of your currency or something like that but I have enabled accepting different currencies in payment preferences and also my primary currency USD and also I live in India so it is kind confusing for me as Paypal don't accept payment in INR I guess. I'm really not getting what to do, do you have any suggestion?
Thanks Sangram! We're glad it was helpful. Unfortunately, from 1 April, 2021, as per the following article on PayPal's site: developer.paypal.com/docs/regional/in/ "PayPal will no longer offer domestic payment services in India. As a result of this, PayPal Payments Private Limited users cannot use Indian rupees (INR) to receive payments. This change, however, has no impact on PayPal’s international services. Users in India can continue to send and receive international payments in US dollars (USD)." So, if you need payments in INR then PayPal won't work for you, and we'd suggest you research alternative payment gateways such as Razorpay, Cashfree, etc. We're not financial advisers, but as fellow website builders, we'd suggest you google "best payment gateway to use in India," weigh up the pros and cons of the ones that fit your basic needs, such as being able to accept payments in INR, pick the one that is the best fit, and then work from there. Sorry we couldn't be of more help.
Hi, yes it is possible to do that, but unfortunately *not* with this button. To allow the buyer to create a message with the payment, you'd have to use PayPal's "Add To Cart" button. We have a video that shows you how to create that button here: th-cam.com/video/C-thWrCUYFs/w-d-xo.html The exact part of the video where you can allow the buyer to create a message with the payment, is shown here: th-cam.com/video/C-thWrCUYFs/w-d-xo.html?t=320 Hope this helps.
Hi Thomas, thanks for your question. Not sure why it wouldn't be there. We've noticed that PayPal has been making some changes to their button options of late and so it could be that this has moved. Sorry we don't know where to. We checked in our account and it's still showing, but that may be because we already had buttons saved there prior to their layout changes. Sorry we couldn't help more.
i just messaged paypal, my problem is that i only have 3 buttons avaliable for me to create which are smart button donation and smart subscribe, when ever i click smart button it takes to me a page where i can create a button using standard intergion or advanced intergion. the copy and paste (no code) button isnt avaliable for me for some reason. paypal told me its because there "no code" button is not available in all regions and it will be added to my region in 20th of march as they said... hopefully its the case or i would probably need to code or do something different. thats my problem. thanks for responding.@@websitewiz

Hi Razelvi, to deactivate the "Pay Later" option when you've integrated PayPal Smart Buttons on your website, you usually need to adjust the settings within your PayPal account or through the PayPal button integration code on your website. Here's a general guide to do it: *THROUGH PAYPAL ACCOUNT SETTINGS* 1. *Log in to your PayPal Business account*: Access your account on the PayPal website. 2. *Access the Button Settings*: Navigate to the area where you manage your PayPal buttons. This could be under "Seller Tools" or a similar section depending on PayPal's current interface. 3. *Edit Button Features*: If PayPal offers direct control over the "Pay Later" feature from the account settings (this might not always be the case), you'll find an option to edit or remove specific features related to the buttons. 4. *Disable Pay Later*: Look for options related to financing or Pay Later features and disable them. *THROUGH BUTTON INTEGRATION CODE* If you don’t find an option to disable the Pay Later feature directly from your PayPal account settings, you may need to adjust the PayPal Smart Button code on your website: 1. *Find the PayPal Smart Button code* on your website. This is the code snippet you added to integrate the PayPal buttons. 2. *Adjust the code*: You need to include the `disable-funding` option and specify `paylater` as the value you want to disable. Here’s how you can add it to the existing Smart Button code: paypal.Buttons({ // Your button configuration disableFunding: 'paylater', // Other options like createOrder, onApprove, etc. }).render('#paypal-button-container'); This javascript code tells PayPal not to offer the Pay Later option as part of the Smart Button options on your website. *IMPORTANT NOTES* - *Test the Changes*: After making these adjustments, the Pay Later option should no longer appear to your customers. However, it’s good to test the button to ensure everything works as expected. - *Documentation and Support*: Since PayPal occasionally updates its features and how they're managed, it's wise to consult the [PayPal Developer Documentation](developer.paypal.com/docs/) or contact PayPal support for the most current methods. If you're not comfortable making these changes yourself, consider reaching out to PayPal support for additional guidance. Hope this helps.

So:
1. Make sure there are no restrictions on your PayPal account. If there are, see this article:
www.paypal.com/be/smarthelp/article/how-do-i-remove-the-restriction-from-my-account-faq2189
4. If you still want to use the Smart Button though, and you have no restrictions on your account and the Live Client ID is correct, it's time to contact PayPal support here:
www.paypal.com/au/smarthelp/home
Hope this helps Mike.

But it does allow you to take payments on your website with no upfront setup costs.
th-cam.com/video/C-thWrCUYFs/w-d-xo.html
From what you've said that you need, this system would work, but there are many paid shopping cart integrations that plug into PayPal more seamlessly and easily, which would work better.
Thank you for this! I have a question thu, what if I have multiple products with different prices, do I have to create as many smart buttons?

Fantastic video! For some reason, we do not have Paypal buttons under Pay & Get Paid. Any Suggestions?
Hi, thanks for your comment 💜 Unfortunately PayPal is no longer offering standalone payment solutions, such as their Smart Button, without coding it in directly, or using one of their partner applications, such as Wix, Squarespace etc.
If you want to take the coding path, please check out this page on PayPal's website to get started:

Hi, you're very welcome! We're so glad it was helpful 😃
Sorry to hear it isn't working for you.
So we recommend that you contact PayPal directly so they can work out why and provide a solution.

@@websitewiz Thank you so much for your reply. This makes a lot of sense- and was my first guess - as a friend copied the code and sent it to me via email to put into the website we are working on together- so it must be a change to the code that occurs when sending the code via email-
It worked perfectly from my own PayPal account - and inputting the code straight to the wix editor

Even adding an extra period, or comma etc. will break the coding so that the button won't work. Hope this helps!
How much PayPal charge for the checkout service. Any cost associate with the button you implemented for the website?
A quick comparison of these three is:

If the conversion fees are significant and you have a global customer base, moving to USD might make sense. Otherwise, staying with GBP could be more beneficial if most of your customers are UK-based.
*1. Keep Store Currency in GBP*
*Pros:*
- Consistency for UK-based customers.
- Easier accounting if your business is UK-based.
- No conversion fees for transactions made in GBP.
*Cons:*
- International customers may see fluctuating prices due to conversion rates.
- PayPal may charge conversion fees when converting GBP to USD during the transaction processing.
*2. Switch Store Currency to USD:*
*Pros:*
- Aligns directly with PayPal’s preferred currency, potentially reducing conversion fees.
- Simplifies the pricing structure for international customers.
*Cons:*
- UK customers will see prices in USD, which might be less convenient.
- Potential confusion or dissatisfaction among local customers due to currency differences.
*Evaluate Your Customer Base:* If the majority of your customers are from the UK, keeping GBP might be more customer-friendly. If you have a significant international customer base, switching to USD might reduce transaction costs.
*PayPal Fees:* Check PayPal's fee structure for currency conversion and consider how significant these fees are for your business.
*Customer Experience:* Think about what provides the best experience for your customers. Consistency and simplicity often lead to higher satisfaction.
*Conclusion*
Balance the ease of transactions (aligning with PayPal's USD preference) against the customer convenience of seeing prices in their local or familiar currency. If the conversion fees are significant and you have a global customer base, moving to USD might make sense. Otherwise, staying with GBP could be more beneficial if most of your customers are UK-based. Hope this helps!

how does the api know what the payment is for and what to do after the payment is made? for instance, allow access to a webpage after payment
Is it possible to give more than 1 option for amounts - that way it could be used as a donate/support button.

To add a PayPal smart button to your WordPress site, do the steps in the video up to the 04:15 mark, where you press "Copy Code" on the PayPal website,
then do the following 10 steps:
5. Press "Edit."

What is live webhooks? Is it mandatory to fill?
Hi Bharat,
*What is live webhooks?*
To summarize Wikipedia, a webhook is a method of increasing the usefulness of a web page or web app by triggering actions based on an initial action.
An action completed by the user starts the process. In the case of Cookies, the action can be as simple as just visiting the site. That one action triggers one or more messages to be sent to one or more other places on the web, triggering even more actions, and so on and so on.
Some simple examples of webhooks are:
• A comment being posted to a blog ticks up the count of comments by one.
*Is it mandatory to fill?*
As to what is mandatory to fill, I don’t know Bharat? You’ll have to provide more information. Thanks.
Hope this helps.
I think I'm confused. Now, I have a Shopify store, and only PayPal. I've enabled "Account Optional" from PP's settings, and seemingly it still doesn't allow customers to pay via credit card. Does this really work?
Hi Howard, the guest checkout option (or "account optional") is only allowed by PayPal as long as several risk factors are not present during checkout.
These include, but are not limited to,
@@websitewiz Thanks for clearifying. Last question please, is turning the "Account Optional" the only way to enable it? Or there are other steps?

However, Zapier looks to be the easiest to use, but is the most expensive. Automate is affordable with plans starting at $9 / month. And Make has, as I mentioned, a limited free plan, which you could use to make this work. But we did find it to have more of a learning curve than the other two.

*Additional Tips:*
--- Test the QR Code: Ensure the QR code links to the correct PayPal button and functions as expected.

Hi, thanks for the great tutorial. What happens when your Client ID does not match the one generated in the button code?

Hi Richard, you're welcome! 😃 If the Client ID in the code does not match your own Client ID, then you can just overwrite it with your own. Hope this helps!
What about when there are multiple products, how to integrate the whole checkout?
Hi Salahuddin, for multiple products we would recommend using the Paypal 'Add to Cart' button instead. To learn more about the ‘Add to Cart’ button we've made a video on that here: th-cam.com/video/C-thWrCUYFs/w-d-xo.html Hope this helps!

When I put the code into my squarespace website it says "script disabled" any ideas on how to fix it? The Embed option only has a URL option. Thanks!
If so, try these 4 steps:

How can i know checkout in sandbox Paypal account through express
Hi Salaudeen, thanks for your question! To determine if your PayPal account is in Sandbox mode, you can look for a few key indicators:
Is there a way to do with where you have a redirect link after payment?
Hi, thanks for your question. If you need to redirect your customers to another page after payment then we recommend using a different button for that.

Alternatively, you could use a third-party automation platform that performs an action (such as a 'response') based on events (such as a 'successful payment')
Basically, the automation software is connected to your PayPal account and your email program. You then use the software to trigger your Email account to send an automated email every time you receive a payment to your PayPal account.
There are 3 automation platforms that we think would work well for what you want to do:
1. www.zapier.com
2. www.automate.io

Thank you for Video . Kindly tell how to redirect to thank you confirmation page where we can provide secure download link?

Hi, what e-commerce selling account do you use? Wix?

Make sure to include this on your site too.

@@websitewiz thank you so much. One last question, am I able to customize that email to send the details through or not?
As far as we know you can't customize the email from PayPal. The only way we know of to send an automated custom email after payment would be through a paid ecommerce solution, such as Wix, Shopify etc., that handles the whole checkout system for you in one place. Such platforms give you more control over these functions and would include everything for the ordering process including product pages, checkout system, payment processing, emails and order tracking etc. But unfortunately PayPal doesn't offer this.
@@kavishagovender You can do it with PHP, but you'll have to research on your own because there're too many details to go over in a YT comment.

Unfortunately, from 1 April, 2021, as per the following article on PayPal's site:
developer.paypal.com/docs/regional/in/
"PayPal will no longer offer domestic payment services in India. As a result of this, PayPal Payments Private Limited users cannot use Indian rupees (INR) to receive payments. This change, however, has no impact on PayPal’s international services. Users in India can continue to send and receive international payments in US dollars (USD)."
So, if you need payments in INR then PayPal won't work for you, and we'd suggest you research alternative payment gateways such as Razorpay, Cashfree, etc. We're not financial advisers, but as fellow website builders, we'd suggest you google "best payment gateway to use in India," weigh up the pros and cons of the ones that fit your basic needs, such as being able to accept payments in INR, pick the one that is the best fit, and then work from there.
Sorry we couldn't be of more help.

th-cam.com/video/9p-kA20-Bgg/w-d-xo.html"
I have already added this in my site but there's 1 button that says "Pay Later". How can I deactivate that?
Hi Razelvi, to deactivate the "Pay Later" option when you've integrated PayPal Smart Buttons on your website, you usually need to adjust the settings within your PayPal account or through the PayPal button integration code on your website. Here's a general guide to do it:
*THROUGH PAYPAL ACCOUNT SETTINGS*
*THROUGH BUTTON INTEGRATION CODE*
If you don’t find an option to disable the Pay Later feature directly from your PayPal account settings, you may need to adjust the PayPal Smart Button code on your website:
1. *Find the PayPal Smart Button code* on your website. This is the code snippet you added to integrate the PayPal buttons.
2. *Adjust the code*: You need to include the `disable-funding` option and specify `paylater` as the value you want to disable. Here’s how you can add it to the existing Smart Button code:
paypal.Buttons({
// Your button configuration
disableFunding: 'paylater',
// Other options like createOrder, onApprove, etc.
}).render('#paypal-button-container');
This javascript code tells PayPal not to offer the Pay Later option as part of the Smart Button options on your website.
*IMPORTANT NOTES*
- *Test the Changes*:
After making these adjustments, the Pay Later option should no longer appear to your customers. However, it’s good to test the button to ensure everything works as expected.
- *Documentation and Support*:
Since PayPal occasionally updates its features and how they're managed, it's wise to consult the [PayPal Developer Documentation](developer.paypal.com/docs/) or contact PayPal support for the most current methods.
If you're not comfortable making these changes yourself, consider reaching out to PayPal support for additional guidance.
Hope this helps.
