    I love how well you pronounce what your are explaining. For non native English people you speak clear and easy to understand.
    Additionally, your video is not accelerated in order to be understood all as it must to be.
    I'm gonna check out if you have more videos like this. :) . I hope to find more.

    Although I'm well beyond this level in ZModeler, I'm still learning things from you in this vid. Your instruction style is excellent, and someone compared you to Bob Ross....I agree. That's a compliment though because of your calm and encouraging demeanor. Your vids are clear, concise, well-organized, have appropriate volume levels and no distracting background music. Thanks much!
    Big thumbs up!

    Hey Ryan, first of all thank you for taking the time to make these tutorials! I was struggling with the transpose tool and mask at the 14:26 mark and I found another way. Basically, if you highlight the edge you want to move, hold the spacebar and select "Move Auto Radius" you can select either partial or complete edge loop and move. You just need to be sure that the correct symmetry is on. You are a guru and wizard so I feel a bit strange adding this! Thanks again for all the knowledge!

    Your point about using OTHER ZBrush features to EXTEND ZModeler is very useful. It does make things a little harder for beginners, though, as they may be confused as to which approach to take. Like ME, for example. ;)

    Great video dude, It taught me a few things I wasn't quite aware of with this tool set, thanks!
    Its lovely that they've added this tool set, but for my needs its sad to see there isn't something akin to Maya's "Multi Cut" tool.

    Your tutorials are Awesome and agree with Alex "You are the Bob Ross of Zbrush :) ". I have a question concerning this method using the 2d Mechanical drawing references. Isn't there a way to set the drawing on an image plane in 4R7? like put the 2d drawing on the floor or even setup a frt and side view and then use modeler instead of constantly having to switch between your ref and Zbrush. I thought i saw it somewhere however i cannot find it again :(. Would be nice to setup planes to create and ortho view and then sculpt like i used to do in Mudbox.

    okay, i dont see how this is an upgrade from traditional poly modeling techniques, and before anyone says this is not poly modeling, it is the same principles so call it w/e, but you did this in 15 mins i could've pulled it off in 5mins traditionally.
    iam sticking with my normal workflow, Zbrush will always remain a sculpting software no matter how hard they try.

    • @MrZimc
      @MrZimc 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Actually that's not a fair statement. You realize Ryan is going slow and explaining stuff, of course he took longer then he normally would. As for it being worse or better then traditional modelling, I don't know we'll have to see what the future brings for Zbrush.

    • @spacep0d
      @spacep0d 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Can you crease edges in Max or Maya? Nope. You can build appropriate edges in for sub-d modeling, but creasing right in ZB is great, such as creating a creased hole from a vert. That's already working with ZB in a way that traditional poly modelers don't. QMesh alone is a very nice tool, and I really like the early management of Poly Groups before the model is finalized, which is another thing a traditional modeling package doesn't really help with (but for polygroups from IDs or something).
      Plus, even if the two were the same, it's nice to be able to quickly whip up something in ZBrush without having to switch package and futz about with OBJ export/import. There are functions in ZModeler that aren't quite so easy in a traditional modeling package.
      For me, the ultimate waste of time is learning Maya to model when I know Max, and it's a huge waste of money to model in a way that is redundant and frustrates me too. But since I'm already a heavy ZB user, learning ZModeler in ZB is totally worth it, and I've found it to be a valuable addition to my skillset despite my 22 years of experience in Max (more than that, if we count 3DS R3/R4).
      Plus, I imagine that ZModeler will continue to evolve along with the rest of the ZBrush toolset. ;)

    • @FareedNagy
      @FareedNagy 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Your first statement nullifies the rest, edge creasing has been a feature avaliable in both packages years before zbrush.

    • @spacep0d
      @spacep0d 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I stand corrected. I've been using Max for so long that I've never relied on creasing in Max. My preferred Max is 2011. I found so many issues with newer versions of Max that I've preferred to stay in 2011.
      However, we know that creasing is an essential part of hard-surface modeling, right? We can do that right in ZB, so that's added value over pure organic modeling! The real power of ZModeler is not with these more basic shapes, but with how easy it is to do more complex models (with more complex functions) right in ZB. Of course, you always have the option to use your traditional modeling package, but it's nice to be able to create these shapes right in ZB too. If Pixologic does for ZModeler what they've done for organic modeling, I think it's good to get onboard early. For some, they don't even really have to leave ZBrush for poly-modeling and I'd say that's a good thing for keeping that artist's flow we love so much.

    • @FareedNagy
      @FareedNagy 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      My original point wasn't about tool availability, it is accessibility, which in turn speeds up your workflow significantly. i'm well aware how flashy zbrush tools can be.
      and to add up, Zbrush creasing tools isn't Compatible with traditional packages as far as iam a aware, However with Opensubdiv or even traditional catmull clark You can keep your creased up edges in multiple platforms all the way to rendering. something which zbrush is incapable of.
      Something alot of people are unaware of, interpolation between different platforms is key in a studio setting, your model needs to hold wherever you throw it.

    BTW, how do you unselect all selected polygons? Can't seem to find a shortcut for this. Another thing, what does all those crazy colors mean? For example, if you select a polygon once and then deselect it, it gets a different color than it had before. What is the pattern?

  • @MONEYVAL9
    @MONEYVAL9 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    From what im seeing Zmodeler isn;t a Low poly all in one system . What we wanted is to be able to poly model without screwing up our original edge flow .And to avoid retopo as mush as possible .But if the kinks in this could be worked out , as i know pixologic will do in a matter of time that would truely set zbrush above all modeling apps.

    I saw another video where a guy used insert multi mesh to put bults on something and when he only showed the bults with specific dynamic subdivision settings they looked perfectly smooth and really nice, but then the rest of the model looked horrible, so I kind of feel like it's not that good to use it. I would rather see how to do this without dynamic subdivision but actual modeling.

  • @VoidloniXaarii
    @VoidloniXaarii 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    thank you very much! seems intereseting what you can do with Zmodeller but to my mind it's a shame they spent all this time at Pixologic developing in their weakpoint, lowpoly, instead of focusing on their strenghts by say working on some high poly tools for obtaining such hard surfaces & improove algorithms for generating the low poly. I say this because for example with this shape I feel you would have done it much much faster working with masking & slicing and if the boolean tools were less unpredictable.

    • @spec24
      @spec24 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, but everything else Zbrush can do would take those programs an eternity. But it would not LITERALLY take 15 seconds. It would take you 15 seconds to select your plane and make your sketch. So don't be stupid. You're comparing two very different tools. Learn the difference.

    • @spacep0d
      @spacep0d 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've spent 22+ years in Max, but learning the basics in ZModeler isn't just about replicating what you can do in Max or some other tool, it's about being able to stay in ZB longer and learn ZModeler so you can get to the amazing stuff that is much harder to do in Max or some other program. For those of us who spend lots of time in Z anyway, it's worth learning this tool, even as we learn with some basic shapes and functions. :)

    • @spacep0d
      @spacep0d 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Plus, it's not the basic features of ZModeler that justify its existence....it's staying in ZBrush longer (for those of us already using it), and getting to those amazingly awesome high-level features of ZModeler with much more complex geo or functionality, including Nanomesh and such.

    You're videos are very informative, and I've just subscribed. However, I feel that when you "draw" out words you say, or in this video you drew out what you were going to do before you did it. This becomes tedious. You should just take us through what you're going to do step by step. The brief overview of the Google image of what we were about to do was sufficient. We could see it, and understand what we wanted to make. Then you proceeded to draw out exactly what we just got done looking at to explain (in case we were confused?) all over again. Look, just a small critique. You're good, just sometimes the drawings you do get a little tedious and I find myself skipping your videos constantly throughout them.

    • @spacep0d
      @spacep0d 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed. The drawing phase is a little much, but to the very beginning ZBrusher, I could see it being useful (and this is a basic tutorial for ZModeler). For more advanced stuff, I would hope there would be less drawing if there's a concept that's being followed. I love his instruction style though.
